Homeoffice und mobiles Arbeiten haben sich infolge der Covid-19-Pandemie bei vielen Unternehmen bekanntlich etabliert. Die Anweisung bzw. „Duldung“ des Homeoffice beruhte allerdings meist mehr auf tatsächlicher als auf rechtlicher Grundlage. Letztere könnte aber aus betrieblicher Übung erwachsen. Dieser Beitrag geht dem rechtlichen Rahmen dafür nach.
The digital transformation sets new requirements to all classes of enterprise systems in companies. ERP systems in particular, which represent the dominant class of enterprise systems, are struggling to meet the new requirements at all levels of the architecture. Therefore, there is an urgent need to reconsider the overall architecture of the systems and address the root of the related issues. Given that many restrictions ERP pose on their adaptability are related to the standardization of data, the database layer of ERP systems is addressed. Since database serve as the foundation for data storage and retrieval, they limit the flexibility of enterprise systems and the chance to adapt to new requirements accordingly. So far, relational databases are widely used. Using a systematic literature approach, recent requirements for ERP systems were identified. Prominent database approaches were assessed against the 23 requirements identified. The results reveal the strengths and weaknesses of recent database approaches. To this end, the results highlight the demand to combine multiple database approaches to fulfill recent business requirements. From a conceptual point of view, this paper supports the idea of federated databases which are interoperable to fulfill future requirements and support business operation. This research forms the basis for renewal of the current generation of ERP systems and proposes to ERP vendors to use different database concepts in the future.
Academic entrepreneurship

Research on entrepreneurial motivation of university scientists is often determined by quantitative methods without taking into account context-related influences. According to different studies, entrepreneurial scientists found a spin-off company due to motives like independency, market opportunity, money or risk of unemployment (short-term contracts). To give a comprehensive explanation, it is important to use a qualitative research view that considers academic rank, norms and values of university scientists. The author spoke with 35 natural scientists and asked professors and research fellows for their entrepreneurial motivation. The results of this study are used to develop a typology of entrepreneurial and non-entrepreneurial scientists within German universities. This paper presents the key findings of the study (Sass 2011).
One of the most striking features of recent public sector reform in Europe is privatization. This development raises questions of accountability: By whom and for what are managers of private for-profit organizations delivering public goods held accountable? Analyzing accountability mechanisms through the lens of an institutional organizational approach and on the empirical basis of hospital privatization in Germany, the article contributes to the empirical and theoretical understanding of public accountability of private actors. The analysis suggests that accountability is not declining but rather multiplying. The shifts in the locus and content of accountability cause organizational stress for private hospitals.
Purpose
This chapter is aimed at contributing to the question of how institutional reforms affect multi-level governance (MLG) capacities and thus the performance of public task fulfillment with a particular focus on the local level of government in England, France, and Germany.
Methodology/approach
Drawing on concepts of institutional evaluation, we analytically distinguish six dimensions of impact assessment: vertical coordination; horizontal coordination; efficiency/savings; effectiveness/quality; political accountability/democratic control; equity of service standards. Methodologically, we rely on document analysis and expert judgments that could be gleaned from case studies in the three countries and a comprehensive evaluation of the available secondary data in the respective national and local contexts.
Findings
Institutional reforms in the intergovernmental setting have exerted a significant influence on task fulfillment and the performance of service delivery. Irrespective of whether MLG practice corresponds to type I or type II, task devolution (decentralization/de-concentration) furthers the interlocal variation and makes the equity of service delivery shrink. There is a general tendency of improved horizontal/MLG type I coordination capacities, especially after political decentralization, less in the case of administrative decentralization. However, decentralization often entails considerable additional costs which sometimes overload local governments.
Research implications
The distinction between multi-purpose territorial organization/MLG I and single-purpose functional organization/MLG II provides a suitable analytical frame for institutional evaluation and impact assessment of reforms in the intergovernmental setting. Furthermore, comparative research into the relationship between MLG and institutional reforms is needed to reveal the explanatory power of intervening factors, such as the local budgetary and staff situation, local policy preferences, and political interests in conjunction with the salience of the transferred tasks.
Practical implications
The findings provide evidence on the causal relationship between specific types of (vertical) institutional reforms, performance, and task-related characteristics. Policy-makers and government actors may use this information when drafting institutional reform programs and determining the allocation of public tasks in the intergovernmental setting.
Social implications
In general, the euphoric expectations placed upon decentralization strategies in modern societies cannot straightforwardly be justified. Our findings show that any type of task transfer to lower levels of government exacerbates existing disparities or creates new ones. However, the integration of tasks within multi-functional, politically accountable local governments may help to improve MLG type I coordination in favor of local communities and territorially based societal actors, while the opposite may be said with regard to de-concentration and the strengthening of MLG type II coordination.
Originality/value
The chapter addresses a missing linkage in the existing MLG literature which has hitherto predominantly been focused on the political decision-making and on the implementation of reforms in the intergovernmental settings of European countries, whereas the impact of such reforms and of their consequences for MLG has remained largely ignored.
This paper presents an exploratory study investigating the influence of the factors (1) intermediary participation, (2) decision-making authority, (3) position in the enterprise, and (4) experience in open innovation on the perception and assessment of the benefits and risks expected from participating in open innovation projects. For this purpose, an online survey was conducted in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The result of this paper is an empirical evidence showing whether and how these factors affect the perception of potential benefits and risks expected within the context of open innovation project participation. Furthermore, the identified effects are discussed against the theory. Existing theory regarding the benefits and risks of open innovation is expanded by (1) finding that they are perceived mostly independently of the factors, (2) confirming the practical relevance of benefits and risks, and (3) enabling a finer distinction between their degrees of relevance according to respective contextual specifics.
Scholars have argued that visionary leadership is an effective tool to motivate followers because it provides them with meaning and purpose. However, previous research tells us little about which leaders and under which circumstances leaders engage in visionary leadership. We draw on theories of human and social capital to argue that leader work centrality is an important antecedent of visionary leadership, and especially so for leaders with low organizational tenure. Moreover, we propose that visionary leadership then provides followers with meaningfulness and thereby decreases their turnover intentions. Our predictions were confirmed by data from a two-wave, lagged-design field study with 101 leader-follower dyads. Overall, our research identifies an important antecedent of visionary leadership, a specific situation in which this antecedent is particularly important, and provides empirical evidence for why visionary leadership can bind followers to an organization.

Flexibilisierung und Individualisierung der Arbeitszeit setzt sich immer mehr durch. Arbeitsmarktpolitische und individuelle Gründe sprechen jedenfalls dafür. Auch die Tarifpartner zeigen sich immer aufgeschlossener, obwohl der rechtliche Geltungsrahmen vielfach noch gar nicht klar abgesteckt ist. Die zahlreichen Praxisbeispiele machen Mut, auf dem begangenen Weg fortzufahren. In diesem Buch werden wertvolle Informationen geliefert, die sowohl aus individueller als auch aus betrieblicher Sicht den Entscheidungsprozeß für eine zunehmende Arbeitszeitindividualisierung und -flexibilisierung erleichtern.
Der nutzbringenden Einsatz einer Datenbrille besteht nicht nur aus der Brille selbst. Die potenzielle ressourcenschonende Assistenz bei der Abarbeitung von komplexen Workflows bedarf eine ausreichende Integration in die Anwendungssystemlandschaft. Implikation sind demnach zwei Hauptelemente: die Brille selbst und die Integrationssoftware. Beide Komponenten sind in geeigneter Form auszulegen und auf die intendierten Anwendungsfälle zu konfigurieren. Dieser Beitrag fasst die Erfahrungen aus zahlreichen Projekten zusammen und liefert einen Überblick über die Herausforderungen bei AR-Einführungen.
Im Zentrum Industrie 4.0 Potsdam (ZIP 4.0) kann diese Frage individuell und ohne großen Aufwand beantwortet werden. Mehr noch, mit Hilfe der hybriden Simulationsumgebung ist die Interaktion mit dem AR-Gerät durch den Akteur innerhalb von Fertigungsprozessen möglich. So kann nicht nur der Nutzen demonstriert, sondern auch durch den tatsächlichen Einsatz innerhalb der realitätsnahen Prozessabbildung die Akzeptanz für die spätere Nutzung geschaffen werden.
Behavioral strategy

Purpose: Behavioral strategy, as a cognitive- and social-psychological view on strategic management, has gained increased attention. However, its conceptualization is still fuzzy and deserves an in-depth investigation. The authors aim to provide a holistic overview and classification of previous research and identify gaps to be addressed in future research.
Design/methodology/approach: The authors conducted a systematic literature review on behavioral strategy. The final sample includes 46 articles from leading management journals, based on which the authors develop a research framework.
Findings: The results reveal cognition and traits as major internal factors. Besides, organizational and environmental contingencies are major external factors of behavioral strategy.
Originality/value: To the authors’ best knowledge, this is the first holistic systematic literature review on behavioral strategy, which categorizes previous research.
Entrepreneurship education has gained widespread attention in both education practice and research over the past three decades. However, whereas research has a strong focus on its effects and many normative concepts exist, little is known about how entrepreneurship is actually taught. To address this research gap, we conduct a curriculum analysis of the 50 best programs in entrepreneurship, according to the 2018 Financial Times ranking “Top MBAs for Entrepreneurship 2018”. In particular, we examine their objectives, learning contents and teaching as well as assessment methods as four major dimensions of a graduate entrepreneurship curriculum. The results show that the programs are primarily business and management programs, with a comparatively small share of entrepreneurship itself. Entrepreneurship-specific goals are entrepreneurial attitudes and competences, such as entrepreneurial leadership, entrepreneurial mindset, entrepreneurial skills, opportunity creation, opportunity identification, and transforming uncertainty into opportunity. The learning contents also focus on business, management, and law, whereas the contents relating to entrepreneurship include entrepreneurial failure, entrepreneurial management, entrepreneurial thinking, and entrepreneurship in general. Teaching methods are mainly the ones usually found in higher education, with business plans and prototyping as additional entrepreneurial ones. Assessment methods do not differ from those in business and management education.
Focusing on the passive use of Instagram, we apply the affordance perspective to deeply explore its use and use-related outcomes. In the qualitative study, we uncover the affordances of focal social media features. Two distinct groups of affordances (self- and others-oriented) emerge. Following the grounded theory methodology, we develop the affordances-actualizations-outcomes model, explaining how immediate goals associated with features translate into outcomes. In the quantitative study, we test the model by applying structural equation modeling. Our findings confirm that actualizations of self- and others-oriented affordances are associated with distinct outcomes: social connectedness, positive affect, and overall satisfaction with Instagram experience.
Die weltweite Forderung nach einer Zunahme der gesellschaftlichen Verantwortung der Unternehmen ist in den letzten Jahren über alle Anspruchsgruppen (Stakeholder) hinweg stetig größer geworden.1 Die Übernahme eben dieser Verantwortung findet in dem facettenreichen Begriff der Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) ihren Ausdruck. Diesem Leitbild entsprechend verpflichten sich Unternehmen zum verantwortungsbewussten Verhalten gegenüber Eigentümern, Konsumenten, Lieferanten, Mitarbeitern und der Gesellschaft als Ganzes.2 Eine CSR-Strategie, die ein ausgewogenes Maß der ‘Triple-Bottom-Line’ bestehend aus sozialen, ökologischen und ökonomischen Aspekten berücksichtigt, wird mittlerweile als Notwendigkeit dafür angesehen, dass ein Unternehmen auch in Zukunft seine ‘license to operate’, d.h. seine gesellschaftliche Unterstützung für die Geschäftstätigkeit behält bzw. sichert.
The business problem of having inefficient processes, imprecise process analyses and simulations as well as non-transparent artificial neuronal network models can be overcome by an easy-to-use modeling concept. With the aim of developing a flexible and efficient approach to modeling, simulating and optimizing processes, this paper proposes a flexible Concept of Neuronal Modeling (CoNM). The modeling concept, which is described by the modeling language designed and its mathematical formulation and is connected to a technical substantiation, is based on a collection of novel sub-artifacts. As these have been implemented as a computational model, the set of CoNM tools carries out novel kinds of Neuronal Process Modeling (NPM), Neuronal Process Simulations (NPS) and Neuronal Process Optimizations (NPO). The efficacy of the designed artifacts was demonstrated rigorously by means of six experiments and a simulator of real industrial production processes.

Culture-driven innovation

This cumulative dissertation deals with the potential of underexplored cultural sources for innovation.
Nowadays, firms recognize an increasing demand for innovation to keep pace with an ever-growing dynamic worldwide competition. Knowledge is one of the most crucial sources and resource, while until now innovation has been foremost driven by technology. But since the last years, we have been witnessing a change from technology's role as a driver of innovation to an enabler of innovation. Innovative products and services increasingly differentiate through emotional qualities and user experience. These experiences are hard to grasp and require alignment in innovation management theory and practice.
This work cares about culture in a broader matter as a source for innovation. It investigates the requirements and fundamentals for "culture-driven innovation" by studying where and how to unlock cultural sources. The research questions are the following: What are cultural sources for knowledge and innovation? Where can one find cultural sources and how to tap into them?
The dissertation starts with an overview of its central terms and introduces cultural theories as an overarching frame to study cultural sources for innovation systematically. Here, knowledge is not understood as something an organization owns like a material resource, but it is seen as something created and taking place in practices. Such a practice theoretical lens inheres the rejection of the traditional economic depiction of the rational Homo Oeconomicus. Nevertheless, it also rejects the idea of the Homo Sociologicus about the strong impact of society and its values on individual actions. Practice theory approaches take account of both concepts by underscoring the dualism of individual (agency, micro-level) and structure (society, macro-level). Following this, organizations are no enclosed entities but embedded within their socio-cultural environment, which shapes them and is also shaped by them.
Then, the first article of this dissertation acknowledges a methodological stance of this dualism by discussing how mixed methods support an integrated approach to study the micro- and macro-level. The article focuses on networks (thus communities) as a central research unit within studies of entrepreneurship and innovation.
The second article contains a network analysis and depicts communities as central loci for cultural sources and knowledge. With data from the platform Meetup.com about events etc., the study explores which overarching communities and themes have been evolved in Berlin's start up and tech scene.
While the latter study was about where to find new cultural sources, the last article addresses how to unlock such knowledge sources. It develops the concept of a cultural absorptive capacity, that is the capability of organizations to open up towards cultural sources. Furthermore, the article points to the role of knowledge intermediaries in the early phases of knowledge acquisition. Two case studies on companies working with artists illustrate the roles of such intermediaries and how they support firms to gain knowledge from cultural sources.
Overall, this dissertation contributes to a better understanding of culture as a source for innovation from a theoretical, methodological, and practitioners' point of view. It provides basic research to unlock the potential of such new knowledge sources for companies - sources that so far have been neglected in innovation management.
Eine indifferente Gemengelage unterschiedlicher Erwartungen ist im Coaching nicht selten. Jeder will etwas anderes - was genau, weiß man häufig nicht. Oftmals ist man sich noch nicht einmal sicher, was man selbst will. Das führt zu Stress und Blockaden. Und die Optionen und Handlungsmöglichkeiten geraten aus dem Blick. Diese Situation ist auch vielen Führungskräften wohlbekannt.
Das Statusfeststellungsverfahren ermöglicht auf Antrag bei der alleinzuständigen Deutschen Rentenversicherung Bund den Erhalt einer verbindlichen Einschätzung der häufig komplizierten und folgenschweren Abgrenzung einer selbstständigen Tätigkeit von einer abhängigen Beschäftigung. Zum 1.4.2022 wurde das Statusfeststellungsverfahren umfassend reformiert. In der Praxis haben sich die eingeführten Novellierungen bislang unterschiedlich bewährt.
Trotz erfolgreicher Impfkampagne droht nach dem Sommer eine vierte Infektionswelle der Corona-Pandemie. Ob es dazu kommen wird, hängt maßgeblich davon ab, wie viele Menschen sich für eine Corona-Schutzimpfung entscheiden. Am Impfstoff mangelt es nicht mehr, dafür an der Impfbereitschaft. Viele Arbeitgeber fragen sich daher, was sie unternehmen können, um die Impfquote in ihren Betrieben zu erhöhen.

In der Theorie bieten dezentrale Steuerungsansätze im Produktionskontext einige Vorteile gegenüber monolithischen Zentralsystemen, die sämtliche Funktionen in einer oder wenigen Instanzen vereinen. Allerdings bedarf die praktischen Umsetzung der Anpassung des allgemeinen Konzepts der Dezentralität an die individuellen und spezifischen Anwendungsfälle insbesondere hinsichtlich ihres sinnvollen Umfangs. Ein Anwendungsfall ist die Montage von variantenreichen Produkten. Der vorliegende Beitrag zeigt, wie mittels der geeigneten Kombination von zentralen und dezentralen Ansätzen eine bessere Planbarkeit und Steigerung des Durchsatzes erreicht werden kann. Mit einer flexiblen Taktsteuerung der Arbeitsstationen und geeigneter Assistenz am Montagearbeitsplatz kann die bisherige werkstatt-orientierte Organisation zu einer serienähnlichen Fertigung transformiert werden. Dies geschieht unter Einsatz einer mehrschichtigen Infrastruktur, die den Industrie 4.0-Paradigmen der dezentralen Informationsverarbeitung durch autonome vernetzte Systeme folgt.
As the focus on digital transformation and its unexplored opportunities is prospering, consulting firms have also turned their attention to it. Despite this increased attention, digital transformation project failure rate remains high, thereby reaffirming the “IT productivity paradox” or “AI productivity paradox. The purpose of this paper is to holistically scrutinize the current approach of digital transformation consulting. A deductive qualitative study draws upon the Human Technology Performance model to elucidate papers on digital transformation published by four major management consulting firms in 2014-2019. Whereas the focus on customer-centricity and some measures of corporate performance is prominent in the consulting approaches, the study results have revealed several “blind spots” that are still either neglected or poorly covered. Three main blind spots are particularly prominent from the analysis. First of all, consulting firms often apply a “one size fits all” approach, thereby neglecting contextual factors, such as age, size, or industry. Secondly, they neglect process level in the return on investment of IT. Thirdly, the suitability of IS development methods remains poorly considered. Hence, the paper argues that, while consulting firms purport to support digital transformation exigences and efforts, they, in fact, adhere to traditional approaches to business consulting.
Die digitale Transformation hat einen massiven Einfluss auf die Aus- und Umgestaltung von Organisationen und Strukturen. Dies gilt nicht nur für Unternehmen, sondern auch für die öffentliche Verwaltung. Dort laufen die Fragen der Digitalisierung auf und sollen in Entscheidungen übersetzt werden. Digitalisierungsthemen fügen sich allerdings
nicht in das typische Schema von Ministerien, Ressorts und Abteilungen ein: Sie können nur ressortübergreifend und unter Mitwirkung zahlreicher politischer, zivilgesellschaftlicher und wirtschaftlicher Akteure bearbeitet werden.
Dies widerspricht dem klassischen Zuständigkeitsprinzip in der Verwaltung, das eine gemeinsame Erarbeitung von Themen grundsätzlich nicht vorsieht.
Does AI control or support?

Many companies are currently investing in artificial intelligence (AI) because of its potential to increase customer satisfaction or financial performance. However, the success rates in implementing AI systems are low, partly due to technology-centric approaches that neglect work practices. This study draws on Bourdieu’s theory of practice to highlight the potential power shift related to AI in customer relationship management, based on the concepts field, capital, and habitus. Two longitudinal case studies were conducted to understand the power shift related to AI implementation. These two AI systems were designed with the objective to support employees. However, subsequently, their implementation changed the balance of power with a significant shift towards more management control, resulting in a devaluation of employees’ work practices. The paper discusses implications for theory and practice in terms of the discrepancies and power shifts following the introduction of AI systems to support customer relationship management.
Um in der digitalisierten Wirtschaft mitzuspielen, müssen Unternehmen, Markt und insbesondere Kunden detailliert verstanden werden. Neben den „Big Playern“ aus dem Silicon Valley sieht der deutsche Mittelstand, der zu großen Teilen noch auf gewachsenen IT-Infrastrukturen und Prozessen agiert, oft alt aus. Um in den nächsten Jahren nicht gänzlich abgehängt zu werden, ist ein Umbruch notwendig. Sowohl Leistungserstellungsprozesse als auch Leistungsangebot müssen transparent und datenbasiert ausgerichtet werden. Nur so können Geschäftsvorfälle, das Marktgeschehen sowie Handeln der Akteure integrativ bewertet und fundierte Entscheidungen getroffen werden. In diesem Beitrag wird das Konzept der Data-Driven Organization vorgestellt und aufgezeigt, wie Unternehmen den eigenen Analyticsreifegrad ermitteln und in einem iterativen Transformationsprozess steigern können.
In this study, we contribute to the scholarly conversation on firm-level business model changes following a neoconfigurational approach. By exploring configurations of business model changes over time, we add the direction of business model changes—namely business model convergence or divergence—as a vital avenue to the business model innovation literature. We identify necessary business model convergence and divergence recipes in a sample of N = 217 strategic dyadic alliances. Firstly, technological proximity emerges as a single pre-condition to both converging and diverging business models. Secondly, business models between competitors either converge through complementarities or tend not to change relative to each other. Thirdly, equity participation enables business model divergence through co-specialization. We conclude with a discussion of business model trajectories and future research directions.
Personalauswahlentscheidungen zeichnen sich durch eine hohe Komplexität aus. Die damit verbundene Unsicherheit lässt Entscheider vielfach die Verantwortung an teure Personalauswahlverfahren oder an Personalberater abgeben. Diese Arbeit gibt einen Überblick über die bestehende Personalauswahlforschung und zeigt dabei auf, wie das rationale Paradigma in der Personalauswahl Emotionen als Entscheidungshilfe bisher systematisch ausgegrenzt. Denn Personalverantwortliche stoßen im Rahmen der Auswahlentscheidung immer wieder auf die Frage nach dem „richtigen“ Verhältnis von Emotionen und Verstand: Kann oder soll ich sogar meinen Gefühlen vertrauen? Um eine Antwort auf diese Frage zu finden, wurden mehrere Entscheider vom Top-Management bis zum Kleinunternehmer befragt. Das Ergebnis ist eine Studie, welche die vielfältigen Strategien im Umgang mit Emotionen in Entscheidungsprozessen analysiert und darstellt. Es wird aufgezeigt, wie Emotionen einerseits Entscheider behindern, stören und Kosten verursachen und wie man anderseits mit einer gewinnbringenden Integration von Emotionen zu besseren Personalentscheidungen gelangen kann. Dabei verknüpft die vorliegende Untersuchung die neuesten Erkenntnisse der Hirnforschung mit der praxisorientierten Welt von Personalentscheidern. Emotionen sind Teil von Entscheidungen. Dies für sich zu erkennen und richtig zu nutzen, führt nach Ansicht des Autors zu besseren und zufriedenstellenderen Entscheidungen.
Enhancing higher entrepreneurship education: insights from practitioners for curriculum improvement

Curricula for higher entrepreneurship education should meet the requirements of both a solid theoretical foundation and a practical orientation. When these curricula are designed by education specialists, entrepreneurs are usually not consulted. To explore practitioners’ curricular recommendations, we conducted 73 semi-structured interviews with entrepreneurs with at least five years of professional experience. We collected 49 items for teaching and learning objectives, 37 for contents, 28 for teaching methods, and 17 for assessment methods. The respondents are convinced that students should acquire solid knowledge in business and management, legal issues, and entrepreneurship. For the latter, only some core aspects are provided. The entrepreneurs put greater emphasis on entrepreneurial skills and attitudes and consider experiential learning designs as most suitable, both in the secure setting of the classroom and in real life. The findings can help reflect on current entrepreneurship curriculum designs.
Both entrepreneurship and innovation play a key role for business growth and economic development and are conceptually highly intertwined. Both fields have received extensive attention that has resulted in a large number of publications. The aim of this work is to provide an overview on the coevolution of entrepreneurship and innovation over the last decades, with particular attention to recent research trends. To track the evolution at the intersection of both fields, we employ a bibliometric analysis, which allowed us to identify the key concepts, the backbone of research, and to provide a systematic classification of main research themes diagnosed including: 1) entrepreneurial innovation and digital transformation, 2) sustainable innovation and entrepreneurship, 3) product innovation and knowledge, 4) entrepreneurial orientation and leadership, and 5) regional entrepreneurship and innovation (innovative entrepreneurship and historical roots). The findings of this bibliometric review are reported in the form of a knowledge graph that represents the results obtained in terms of the knowledge base (key terms), knowledge domains, and knowledge evolution (themes and bursts), based on which themes for future research are suggested.

In this study, we explore the development of equity crowdfunding (ECF) over the next 5 to 10 years by conducting an international Delphi study. Our results indicate that the ECF market is expected to grow significantly. However, it is unlikely to disrupt other forms of financing and will not cover all SME financing needs. ECF will remain a funding technique for SMEs and small investors; it is unlikely to attract large corporations or institutional investors. Platforms will impose stricter requirements for capital raisers, expand their services, and innovate their business models. National governments will probably partly liberalize the ECF market.
Entscheidungsträger in Forschungseinrichtungen werden oftmals mit der Auswahl von Mitarbeitern im Technologietransfer konfrontiert. Mitarbeiter im Technologietransfer sind wichtige Wissenschaftsmanager, die den anwendungsorientierten Transfer von Forschungsergebnissen und forschungsbasiertem Know-how unterstützen. Zu ihnen zählen Mitarbeiter in den Bereichen Auftragsforschung, Patent- und Gründungsmanagement und Mitarbeiter in transferorientierten Drittmittelprojekten. Für eine professionelle Personalauswahl qualifizierter Technologietransfermitarbeiter ist ein systematisches Bewerbungsgespräch grundlegend. Der vorliegende Artikel gibt einen Einblick in die Struktur und in die einzelnen Phasen eines Bewerbungsgespräches. Dabei wird die Grundstruktur des erfolgreich etablierten Multimodalen Interviews (MMI®) aufgegriffen. Es werden acht verschiedene Interviewphasen erläutert und mit Beispielfragen zur Beurteilung des Bewerbers ergänzt.
Neben kleineren, meist automatisierten Update-Aktivitäten zur Fehlerbehebung und zur Steigerung der Performance von ERP-Systemen, gibt es größere Updates mit umfangreicheren Aktualisierungen und Erweiterungen der Software – auch „Updateprojekte“ oder „Upgrades“ genannt. Ein ERP-Upgrade beschreibt einen größeren Änderungsprozess, der die Nutzung neuer Technologien ermöglicht und das System mit (neuen) Geschäftsstrategien in Einklang bringt. Allein der Begriff Fabriksoftware selbst ist noch nicht definiert bzw. gegenüber nahestehenden Begriffen abgegrenzt. Der vorliegende Beitrag stellt dazu einen für Forschung und Praxis tauglichen Ansatz zur Einordnung von Software in Fertigung und Logistik vor.

Findings in the extant literature are mixed concerning when and how gender diversity benefits team performance. We develop and test a model that posits that gender-diverse teams outperform gender-homogeneous teams when perceived time pressure is low, whereas the opposite is the case when perceived time pressure is high. Drawing on the categorization-elaboration model (CEM; van Knippenberg, De Dreu, & Homan, 2004), we begin with the assumption that information elaboration is the process whereby gender diversity fosters positive effects on team performance. However, also in line with the CEM, we argue that this process can be disrupted by adverse team dynamics. Specifically, we argue that as time pressure increases, higher gender diversity leads to more team withdrawal, which, in turn, moderates the positive indirect effect of gender diversity on team performance via information elaboration such that this effect becomes weaker as team withdrawal increases. In an experimental study of 142 four-person teams, we found support for this model that explains why perceived time pressure affects the performance of gender-diverse teams more negatively than that of gender-homogeneous teams. Our study sheds new light on when and how gender diversity can become either an asset or a liability for team performance.

Gravitating exogenous shocks to the next normal through entrepreneurial coopetive interactions

Purpose: Entrepreneurship can be viewed as an individual or group pursuit of market opportunities irrespective of the context. But when an exogenous shock alters and permanently alters the known normal, entrepreneurs can do no more than cope with the immediate impact. Covid-19 changed the normal for every-one, and the current study aims to analyse how the pandemic changed the context and entrepreneurial perspective of business owners geographically located in different cultural environments. Various experiences impacted them as they tried to navigate and mitigate the effects of the crisis on the wider economy and their business. We seek to identify the probable relevant entrepreneurial configurations in which one or more combinations of antecedent conditions are needed to cause entrepreneurs to adapt their behavior in order to increase their coopetitive interactions further, to mitigate the effects of the crisis.Originality: To the best of our knowledge, this is the first empirical study to address an entrepreneurial phenomenon using an integrative approach using PLS-SEM and fsQCA as separate prediction-oriented methods in order to validate the proposed conceptual model and to create a preliminary scaffolding for building the Theory of Unplanned Behavior in a crisis context.

Industry 4.0, based on increasingly progressive digitalization, is a global phenomenon that affects every part of our work. The Internet of Things (IoT) is pushing the process of automation, culminating in the total autonomy of cyber-physical systems. This process is accompanied by a massive amount of data, information, and new dimensions of flexibility. As the amount of available data increases, their specific timeliness decreases. Mastering Industry 4.0 requires humans to master the new dimensions of information and to adapt to relevant ongoing changes. Intentional forgetting can make a difference in this context, as it discards nonprevailing information and actions in favor of prevailing ones. Intentional forgetting is the basis of any adaptation to change, as it ensures that nonprevailing memory items are not retrieved while prevailing ones are retained. This study presents a novel experimental approach that was introduced in a learning factory (the Research and Application Center Industry 4.0) to investigate intentional forgetting as it applies to production routines. In the first experiment (N = 18), in which the participants collectively performed 3046 routine related actions (t1 = 1402, t2 = 1644), the results showed that highly proceduralized actions were more difficult to forget than actions that were less well-learned. Additionally, we found that the quality of cues that trigger the execution of routine actions had no effect on the extent of intentional forgetting.

Am 24.2.2022 begann der russische Angriffskrieg in der Ukraine. Seitdem fliehen täglich zahlreiche ukrainische Staatsbürger in die Europäische Union, viele davon nach Deutschland. Vorrangig ist jetzt die Sicherung der Grundbedürfnisse, wie Verpflegung, Unterkunft und medizinischer Versorgung. Daneben fragen sich Arbeitgeber, wie sie ukrainische Staatsbürger möglichst schnell beschäftigen können. Wir geben einen Überblick über die Möglichkeiten, ukrainische Geflüchtete möglichst schnell in den deutschen Arbeitsmarkt zu integrieren.
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to investigate how learning solely via an assistance system influences work performance compared with learning with a combination of an assistance system and additional training. While the training literature has widely emphasised the positive role of on-the-job training, particularly for groups that are often underrepresented in formalised learning situations, organisational studies have stressed the risks that emerge when holistic process knowledge is lacking and how this negatively affects work performance. This study aims at testing these negative effects within an experimental design.
Design/methodology/approach
This paper uses a laboratory experimental design to investigate how assistance-system-guided learning influences the individuals’ work performance and work satisfaction compared with assistance-system-guided learning combined with theoretical learning of holistic process knowledge. Subjects were divided into two groups and assigned to two different settings. In the first setting, the participants used the assistance systems as an orientation and support tool right at the beginning and learned the production steps exclusively in this way. In the second setting, subjects received an additional 10-min introduction (treatment) at the beginning of the experiment, including detailed information regarding the entire work process.
Findings
This study provides evidence that learners provided with prior process knowledge achieve a better understanding of the work process leading to higher levels of productivity, quality and work satisfaction. At the same time, the authors found evidence for differences among workers’ ability to process and apply this additional information. Subjects with lower productivity levels faced more difficulties processing and applying additional process information.
Research limitations/implications
Methodologically, this study goes beyond existing research on assistance systems by using a laboratory experimental design. Though the external validity of this method is limited by the artificial setting, it is a solid way of studying the impact of different usages of digital assistance systems in terms of training. Further research is required, however, including laboratory experiments with larger case numbers, company-level case studies and analyses of survey data, to further confirm the external validity of the findings of this study for the workplace.
Practical implications
This study provides some first evidence that holistic process knowledge, even in low-skill tasks, has an added value for the production process. This study contributes to firms' training policies by exploring new, digitalised ways of guided on-the-job training and demonstrates possible training benefits for people with lower levels of (initial) abilities and motivation.
Social implications
This study indicates the advantage for companies and societies to invest in additional skills and training and points at the limitations of assistance systems. Originality/value
This study extends existing research on digital assistance systems by investigating their role in job-related-training. This paper contributes to labour sociology and organisational research by confirming the importance of holistic process knowledge as opposed to a solely task-oriented digital introduction.

Die Potenziale - u. a. innovative Produkte, neue Dienstleistungen und Geschäftsmodelle sowie effizientere betriebliche Prozesse [1]- von cyber-physischen Systemen können auf diese Weise entlang der gesamten Wertschöpfungskette gehoben werden [2].
This dissertation examines the lack of clarity in the scientific literature regarding gender and negotiation performance. It is often claimed that men negotiate better than women, yet it is simultaneously emphasized that results strongly depend on context. Through the use of qualitative methods such as content analysis and critical mixed-methods review, the research question: "Are women truly inferior negotiators compared to men?" is addressed. The study comprises a descriptive and an interpretive part. The descriptive section illuminates various interpretations of gender-specific negotiation theory among citing authors, with 67% arguing for a general superiority of men. However, given the high variance in gender-specific differences, the focus should instead be on the context-dependency of negotiation performance. Generalized statements can be made within contexts, but not across them. In the interpretive section, several factors contributing to this misinterpretation are highlighted, including discrepancies in the definition of negotiation performance and distortions in research communication.. From a scientific perspective, this study underscores the need for a nuanced sociological analysis and warns against the one-sided acceptance of inaccurate scientific interpretations. From a practical standpoint, it amplifies the voices of women affected by biased research paradigms. Overall, the dissertation clarifies the theory of gender-specific negotiation performance and advocates for the elimination of biases in scientific discourse.

Ausgründungen aus der Wissenschaft (spin-offs) gehören zu den anspruchsvollsten Instrumenten des Wissens- und Technologietransfers. Die Initiatoren erfolgreicher Gründungsvorhaben sind oftmals engagierte Hochschullehrer, die nicht nur Anerkennung in der Scientific Community suchen, sondern ihre Forschungsergebnisse ebenso in anwendungsorientierte Produkte und Dienstleistungen überführen. Was treibt diese Wissenschaftler an? In welchem Zusammenhang steht die Gründungsmotivation mit der ursprünglichen wissenschaftlichen Motivation? Ist das Initiieren einer Ausgründung mehr als das Lösen eines herausfordernden Rätsels? Der vorliegende Artikel gibt eine Antwort auf diese Fragen und gewährt einen Einblick in die Gründungsmotivation von Hochschulprofessoren aus den Naturwissenschaften. Mit Hilfe einer qualitativen Untersuchung werden verschiedene Gründertypen gebildet.
Unternehmensleitbilder sind zu einem beliebten strategischen Instrument geworden, dem eine motivationssteigernde Wirkung zugeschrieben wird. In KMU und Startups wird die Notwendigkeit von Leitbildern infrage gestellt, da entsprechende Inhalte in der persönlichen Führung vermittelt werden. Doch gerade die gemeinsame Erstellung eines Leitbilds kann dessen Akzeptanz sowie die Mitarbeitermotivation erhöhen. Entsprechend verfolgen wir einen explorativen Aktionsforschungsansatz und entwickelten in einem Workshop mit Mitarbeitern eines in Berlin ansässigen E-Commerce-Startups ein Leitbild. Eine Woche vor und nach dem Workshop wurde die Motivation der Mitarbeiter quantitativ mit Hinblick auf Engagement, Mitarbeiterzufriedenheit, Commitment und Kündigungsabsicht gemessen. Unsere Ergebnisse legen nahe, dass die gemeinsame Formulierung eines Leitbilds einen signifikanten positiven Effekt auf die Mitarbeitermotivation hat, insbesondere für Mitarbeiter mit einem niedrigen initialen Motivationsniveau.
We investigate how the design of audit processes influences employees’ reporting decisions. We focus specifically on detective employee audits for which several employees are randomly selected after a defined period to audit their ex-post behavior. We investigate two design features of the audit process, namely, employee anonymity and process transparency, and analyze their impact on misreporting. Overall, we find that both components influence the extent of individuals’ misreporting. A nonanonymous audit decreases performance misreporting more than an audit in which the employee remains anonymous. Furthermore, the high incidence of performance misreporting in the case of anonymous audits can be decreased when the process transparency is low. Thus, our study informs accountants about how the two design features of employee anonymity and transparency of the audit process can be used to constrain performance misreporting to increase the efficiency of audits

Executive education (EE) has been an established means for management education. However, due to the ever-changing business environment, progress in education technology, and new competitors, EE has been continuously evolving and can be expected to further change. Employing a three-stage international Delphi study, we identify a plausible scenario for the further development of EE over the next decade. The results suggest major changes for management training. The panel expects major shifts in teaching methods and curricula construction. Business schools are expected to increase content customization, to adapt delivery formats, and to enhance coverage of topical issues to better respond to leaders' needs.
Radical innovations

The fast growing body of radical innovation research is fragmented and difficult to overlook. We provide an overview of the most cited journals, authors, and publications and conduct a bibliographic coupling to structure the literature landscape. We identified the following research clusters: management of radical innovations, organizational learning and knowledge, financial aspects of radical innovation, radical innovation adoption and diffusion, radical industry innovations as challenges for incumbents, and radical innovation in specific industries. Based on an in-depth content analysis of these clusters, we identify the following future research opportunities: A systematic compilation of all intra- and extra-organizational management aspects, moderators, and mediators, extending radical innovation research's epistemological basis by adding strategic foresight, further research in individual, group (team), organizational, and inter-organizational capabilities required for radical innovation, a managerial perspective on adoption and diffusion of radical innovations, applying portfolio theory and real options theory to radical innovation research, stronger research efforts on coping strategies for firms faced with competitors' radical innovations, and intensifying both industry-specific and cross-industry research.
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to shed light on the rising waves of workplace militancy in the public sector and to provide insights into the perceptions that frame justification for industrial action among Ugandan public sector employees. Design/methodology/approach In-depth interviews and documentary analysis, analysed qualitatively, as well as a review of theoretical and empirical literature. Findings Public school teachers and public university lecturers in Uganda who frequently engage in industrial action mainly rationalise their engagement by the absence, or the ineffectiveness of alternative conflict resolution mechanisms. The findings also show that industrial action, even in resource-constrained settings like Uganda, is stimulated more by the desire to achieve equity rather than by the basic desire to improve working conditions. It is also notable that new, often unstructured, forms of workplace militancy continue to emerge in the public sector, and waves of industrial action are shifting from the industrial to the public sector. Practical implications Whereas industrial action is a protected labour right, the findings of this research strongly suggest that public employees do not necessarily enjoy their right to engage, but only reluctantly take industrial action as a "last resort". The findings will, therefore, help public managers and policymakers to appreciate their responsibility in reducing the compulsion for industrial action among public employees. Originality/value This paper provides a general explanation for industrial action from the perspective of the people involved, rather than explaining the causality of specific strike actions. At a time when industrial action is generally declining in the developed industrialised states, this paper sheds light on the rise in collective action in developing countries and especially in the public sector.

Zwar mag ein Reformwille der Verwaltung in Reden und Konzeptpapieren beschworen werden; häufig findet sich jedoch keine Realität, die dieser «Poesie der Reform» (Luhmann, 2000) entspricht. Sicher ist diese Darstellung etwas überspitzt. Verwaltungen von heute unterscheiden sich deutlich von denen vor 20, 40 oder 60 Jahren. Gleichwohl sind Reformen und Innovationen für Verwaltungen eine besondere Herausforderung und Zumutung. In diesem Artikel wollen wir herausarbeiten, worin dieser Zumutungsgehalt besteht: Warum tun sich Verwaltungen mit Innovationen oft schwer? Hierzu werden wir zentrale Besonderheiten herausarbeiten, welche die Verwaltung als Organisationstyp auszeichnen. In einem zweiten Schritt wird es dann möglich sein, danach zu fragen, unter welchen Bedingungen Innovationen gleichwohl gelingen können - oder ihr Gelingen mindestens wahrscheinlicher wird.
In many revenue management applications risk-averse decision-making is crucial. In dynamic settings, however, it is challenging to find the right balance between maximizing expected rewards and minimizing various kinds of risk. In existing approaches utility functions, chance constraints, or (conditional) value at risk considerations are used to influence the distribution of rewards in a preferred way. Nevertheless, common techniques are not flexible enough and typically numerically complex. In our model, we exploit the fact that a distribution is characterized by its mean and higher moments. We present a multi-valued dynamic programming heuristic to compute risk-sensitive feedback policies that are able to directly control the moments of future rewards. Our approach is based on recursive formulations of higher moments and does not require an extension of the state space. Finally, we propose a self-tuning algorithm, which allows to identify feedback policies that approximate predetermined (risk-sensitive) target distributions. Mit Urteil vom 1.3.2022 (NZA2022, NZA Jahr 2022 Seite 780) hat das BAG erneut über die Wirksamkeit einer Rückzahlungsklausel in einer Fortbildungsvereinbarung entschieden. Die Entscheidung reiht sich in eine nicht leicht zu durchschauende Anzahl von Urteilen hierzu ein. Sie dient uns zum Anlass, einen Überblick über die Rechtsprechung zu geben.
The scenario technique is widely used to cope with uncertainties plan for alternate future situations. The extensive research led to a scattered literature landscape. To organize the field quantitatively, we conduct bibliometric performance analyses and a bibliographic coupling analysis. Results show an increased interest in scenario research since 2009 and clear distinctions between strategic and operational as well as methodological and applied research. Future research can be expected to further enhance the method towards robust decision making and to combine it with methods searching for most likely scenarios, such as prediction markets, crowdsourcing, and superforecasting. Additionally, cognitive and behavioral aspects of using the scenario technique might draw further attention. The scenario technique is expected to be applied across all industries and will probably play an increasing role in currently underrepresented business functions such as marketing and innovation.

The sharing economy has received increased attention in entrepreneurship research, resulting in a complex research landscape that is hard to overlook. Using a bibliometric analysis, we aim to further synthesise the field by: 1) summarising the most important definitions given by extant literature to capture the common understanding of the sharing economy; 2) identifying three thematic clusters based on the top 20 most cited publications; 3) conducting a citation analysis to show interdependencies between all authors; and 4) identifying the research methods used in the SE publications. Our results show: 1) many definitions with different emphases; 2) conceptualisation, collaborative consumption/ownership and the disruptive character of the sharing economy as three dominant research clusters; 3) a fairly even citation practice allowing for unbiased future research; and 4) that conceptual publications and quantitative as well as qualitative studies are fairly evenly published.
Der Erfolg eines Finanzinstituts im Kreditgeschäft mit Firmenkunden wird maßgeblich von der Fähigkeit bestimmt, die künftige Bonität von Unternehmen einzuschätzen. Durch eine zunehmend starke Regulierung und einen sich verschärfenden Wettbewerb gewinnen prognosestarke Kreditrisikomodelle weiter an Bedeutung. Sowohl in der theoretischen Forschung als auch in der Regulierungspraxis, wie in der Kreditwirtschaft insgesamt, dominieren jedoch seit Jahrzehnten Modelle und Verfahren der Ausfallprognose, welche eine starke Vergangenheitsorientierung implizieren. Dies betrifft im Grunde die gesamte betriebswirtschaftliche Krisenforschung.
Dieses Spannungsfeld – einhergehend mit einer mangelnden theoretischen Fundierung bisheriger Ansätze zur Bonitätsprognose – greift der Autor auf, indem er die Logik des Unternehmensbewertungsmodells von Schwartz/Moon (2001) auf die Ausfallprognose von Unternehmen überträgt. Erweiterungen dieses Modells, etwa um die Berücksichtigung qualitativer Einflussfaktoren wie der Managementqualität, resultieren im Potsdamer Modell zur simulativen Prognose der Ausfallwahrscheinlichkeit von Unternehmen. Ausgangspunkt des Verfahrens bildet die Monte Carlo Simulation, wodurch – im Gegensatz zu traditionellen Verfahren der Insolvenzprognose – ökonomisch fundierte Ursache-Wirkungszusammenhänge einen Ausfall definieren. Die empirische Untersuchung verdeutlicht das große Potenzial des Modells und damit einhergehend die Notwendigkeit eines Paradigmenwechsels bei der Prognose der Ausfallwahrscheinlichkeit von Unternehmen.
Strategic social media use positively influences organizational goals such as the long-term accrual of social capital, and thus social media information governance has become an increasingly important organizational objective. It is particularly important for humanitarian nongovernmental organizations (HNGOs), whose work relies on accurate and timely information regarding socially altruistic behavior (donations, volunteerism, etc.). Despite the potential of social media for increasing social capital, tensions in governing social media information across an organization's different operational levels (regional, intermediate, and national) pose a difficult challenge. Prominent governance frameworks offer little guidance, as their focus on control and incremental policymaking is largely incompatible with the processes, roles, standards, and metrics needed for managing self-governing social media. This study offers a notion of dynamic and co-evolutionary process management of multi-level organizations as a means of conceptualizing social media information governance for the accrual of organizational social capital. Based on interviews with members of HNGOs, this study reveals tensions that emerge within eight focus areas of accruing social capital in multi-level organizations, explains how dynamic process management can ease those tensions, and proposes corresponding strategy recommendations.

Solo-Selbstständige stehen - wie sich auch aktuell zeigt - wirtschaftlich oft auf wackeligen Beinen. Die Tarifvertragsparteien haben in der Vergangenheit versucht, Tarifverträge auf sie zu erstrecken. Dies sowohl der Mitgliedsbeiträge wegen, als auch um die Lage der Solo-Selbstständigen zu verbessern. Der Beitrag untersucht, ob das geht und ob Koalitionen (Arbeitgeberverbände und Gewerkschaften) Solo-Selbstständige überhaupt als Mitglieder aufnehmen können.
The economics of COVID-19

Purpose
Within a very short period of time, the worldwide pandemic triggered by the novel coronavirus has not only claimed numerous lives but also caused severe limitations to daily private as well as business life. Just about every company has been affected in one way or another. This first empirical study on the effects of the COVID-19 crisis on family firms allows initial conclusions to be drawn about family firm crisis management.
Design/methodology/approach
Exploratory qualitative research design based on 27 semi-structured interviews with key informants of family firms of all sizes in five Western European countries that are in different stages of the crisis.
Findings
The COVID-19 crisis represents a new type and quality of challenge for companies. These companies are applying measures that can be assigned to three different strategies to adapt to the crisis in the short term and emerge from it stronger in the long run. Our findings show how companies in all industries and of all sizes adapt their business models to changing environmental conditions within a short period of time. Finally, the findings also show that the crisis is bringing about a significant yet unintended cultural change. On the one hand, a stronger solidarity and cohesion within the company was observed, while on the other hand, the crisis has led to a tentative digitalization.
Originality/value
To the knowledge of the authors, this is the first empirical study in the management realm on the impacts of COVID-19 on (family) firms. It provides cross-national evidence of family firms' current reactions to the crisis.
Megatrends, affecting multiple aspects of future society, economy, and technology, drive today's business world. They are expected to impact all areas in companies and will, therefore, most likely occur in business negotiations. Although several studies address future developments of different business divisions, the megatrends' impact on negotiations has, thus far, not been analyzed. We designed a model including the three megatrends, i.e., globalization and economic shift, digitalization and new technologies, and demographic and social change, which have main effects on specific negotiation aspects. Our study combined an online survey and expert interviews with negotiation practitioners to provide a first broad view of how megatrends affect future business negotiations. The results confirm our model and reveal a close connection of megatrends and single negotiation aspects. Among others, we examine an orientation toward global partners, an increased interconnection through various electronic systems, as well as two opposite relationship directions - long-term and integrative through strategic cooperation vs. short-term and distributive through competition and new technologies.
The leniency rule revisited

The experimental literature on antitrust enforcement provides robust evidence that communication plays an important role for the formation and stability of cartels. We extend these studies through a design that distinguishes between innocuous communication and communication about a cartel, sanctioning only the latter. To this aim, we introduce a participant in the role of the competition authority, who is properly incentivized to judge the communication content and price setting behavior of the firms. Using this novel design, we revisit the question whether a leniency rule successfully destabilizes cartels. In contrast to existing experimental studies, we find that a leniency rule does not affect cartelization. We discuss potential explanations for this contrasting result.
Atwood analyzes the effects of the 1963 U.S. measles vaccination on long-run labor market outcomes, using a generalized difference-in-differences approach. We reproduce the results of this paper and perform a battery of robustness checks. Overall, we confirm that the measles vaccination had positive labor market effects. While the negative effect on the likelihood of living in poverty and the positive effect on the probability of being employed are very robust across the different specifications, the headline estimate—the effect on earnings—is more sensitive to the exclusion of certain regions and survey years.
The number of alternative suppliers is widely considered to be the most important source of power in supply chains. It is common knowledge that a buying company benefits from an increasing number of suppliers until a marginalization effect occurs. Consequently, a cost-benefit optimum must exist but has not been analyzed in a sufficiently differentiated manner in the literature. Particularly, research has not taken the variety of product groups, which is reflected by the degree of innovation, into account. Using a two-way analysis of variance, this study identifies the cost-benefit optimum for the number of suppliers and analyzes the moderating role of the degree of innovation. The analysis is based on real automotive business-to-business negotiation data. The results reveal that a cost-benefit optimum is reached at a number of three suppliers at the most. Furthermore, the impact of the number of suppliers is higher for innovative products than for more functional products. Purchasing managers can use the findings to determine the optimal size of their supplier choice set.

Isomorphism has been widely used to describe why trends penetrate entire organizational fields. However, research so far has neglected the temporal aspects of such diffusion processes and the organizational reasons underlying the introduction of new management tools. We argue that during reform waves, the reasons for adopting the new tools differ over time. Using comparative data from two surveys on quality management in the field of higher education and the health sector, we show that early adopters are more likely to be motivated by instrumental reasons, while late adopters will more likely be motivated by institutional reasons.
Purpose This study aims to explore under which institutional and organizational conditions the national e-government reform efforts of EU member states lead to very high availability of e-services. Design/methodology/approach Following e-government literature of information systems and public administration research, this study applies an analytical framework encompassing characteristics of the national politico-administrative system (state structure, government capacity, managerial innovation orientation and civil service system) to understand why a common policy framework does not lead to convergence but great variety in the degree of e-service availability. A comparative case study approach using fuzzy set qualitative comparative analysis (fsQCA) is applied to systematically compare e-service availability in the former 28 EU member states. Findings Three configurations of sufficient conditions are identified: government capacity in conjunction with either bureaucratic human resource practices, centralized state structure or managerial innovation orientation. Three country clusters are derived: effective bureaucrats, effective centralists and effective managers. Originality/value The results demonstrate the importance of administrative effectiveness for the digital transformation. Rather than mimicking best practices, countries are advised to learn from better performing countries that are most similar in terms of institutional and organizational characteristics of the politico-administrative system.
This study seeks to explain the major drivers of trading activity in commodity futures markets and gage the effect of trading activity on commodity prices. Rather than concentrating on a specific commodity subgroup or a particular type of commodity traders, we provide an extensive overview of the behavior across all market participants and their influence on commodity prices by using a broad set of commodity futures contracts. Although commodity futures returns show co-movement with financial fundamentals (U.S. dollar index, equity, and bond markets), based on the Disaggregated Commitment of Traders Report (DCOT), this relationship cannot be attributed to trading activity. Pricing in commodity markets can be predominantly attributed to hedgers and influential speculators (money managers), whereas small speculators (nonreportable traders) are crucial to some soft commodity futures similar to dealers in metals commodity futures. Furthermore, we find limited cases where inventory changes exert a sizable influence on position changes of DCOT traders.
In this paper, we study how the European Financial Reporting Advisory Group (EFRAG) used different legitimacy strategies between 2004 and 2021 to secure its organisational survival. Although EFRAG is now an established player within the regulatory space of corporate reporting, the organisation’s path towards this position was not straightforward. Based on 20 interviews with current and former members of EFRAG and archival documents, we investigate how EFRAG initially gained and maintained its legitimacy and how it responded to a legitimacy crisis arising in the aftermath of the 2008–2009 financial crisis. Based on prior research on organisational strategies for legitimising actions, we derive a framework for our analysis and show how EFRAG has adapted various legitimacy strategies over time. We further find that the use of legitimacy strategies is constrained by various systemic factors and show how EFRAG’s adaptations to its legitimacy strategies led to new tensions. Our findings contribute to the literature on private regulatory organisations’ legitimacy and the political economy of standard setting.

A second, quantitative study confirms the visibility and relevance of these dimensions to customers. We discuss strategic options for focal firms to design value configurations regarding the two dimensions to optimize value creation and value capture in sharing networks. Firms can use this two-dimensional search grid to explore untapped opportunities in the sharing economy.

Der Beitrag beschäftigt sich mit der gegenwärtigen Funktionalität der Präklusionsandrohung aus § 296 Abs. 1 ZPO . Einleitend werden kurz Normenhistorie, berufungsinstanzliche Stellung und Verfassungsmäßigkeit der Vorschrift sowie die Rechtsprechung zum Verzögerungsbegriff betrachtet. Sodann stellt der Verfasser die Fluchtmöglichkeiten der präklusionsbedrohten Partei dar und arbeitet die bestehenden Problemlagen heraus. In einer kritischen Stellungnahme werden unter Berücksichtigung des Gebots der Prozessökonomie Lösungsmöglichkeiten aufgezeigt, um § 296 Abs. 1 ZPO zu derjenigen Stellung zu verhelfen, die der Gesetzgeber mit der Vereinfachungsnovelle von 1976 vor Augen hatte.

Zur Verbesserung der Mensch-Maschinen-Interaktion zwischen Fabrikpersonal, Anlagen sowie Werkstücken und Steigerung der Transparenz am Shopfloor, kann ein solcher digitaler Zwilling relevante Daten liefern. In diesem Beitrag wird ein Konzept zur Visualisierung des digitalen Zwillings mittels Augmented Reality vorgestellt und evaluiert.
Die Digitalisierung unseres Lebens löst die Grenzen zwischen Privat- und Berufsleben immer weiter auf. Bekanntes Beispiel ist das Homeoffice. Arbeitgeber begegnen aber auch zahlreichen weiteren Trends in diesem Zusammenhang. Dazu gehören „workation“, also die Verbindung zwischen Arbeit („work“) und Urlaub („vacation“) ebenso wie „bleisure“, dh die Verbindung von Dienstreisen („business“) und Urlaub („leisure“). Der Beitrag geht den rechtlichen Rahmenbedingungen hierfür nach.
Wie gut ist gut?

We analyse the potential for industry entry and catching up by latecomer countries or firms in formative sectors, by deriving a framework that builds on the concept of windows of opportunity for catching up. This framework highlights differences in technological, market, and institutional characteristics between formative and mature sectors, and elaborates how this may affect opportunities for catching up. We apply this framework to the global Concentrated Solar Power sector, in which China has rapidly narrowed the gap to the global forefront in terms of technological capabilities and market competitiveness. We find that the formative nature of the sector resulted in turbulent development of the technological, market, and institutional dimensions, making it more difficult for early leaders to retain leadership, and therefore easier for latecomer firms or countries to catch up. This signals an increased role in early-stage technology development in the next phase of the energy transition.
As overconsumption has negative effects on ecological balance, social equality, and individual well-being, reducing consumption levels among the materially affluent is an emerging strategy for sustainable development. Today's youth form a crucial target group for intervening in unsustainable overconsumption habits and for setting the path and ideas on responsible living. This article explores young people's motivations for engaging in three behavioural patterns linked to anti-consumption (voluntary simplicity, collaborative consumption, and living within one's means) in relation to sustainability. Applying a qualitative approach, laddering interviews reveal the consequences and values behind the anti-consumption behaviours of young people of ages 14 to 24 according to a means-end chains analysis. The findings highlight potential for and the challenges involved in motivating young people to reduce material levels of consumption for the sake of sustainability. Related consumer policy tools from the fields of education and communication are identified. This article provides practical implications for policy makers, activists, and educators. Consumer policies may strengthen anti-consumption among young people by addressing individual benefits, enabling reflection on personal values, and referencing credible narratives. The presented insights can help give a voice to young consumers, who struggle to establish themselves as key players in shaping the future consumption regime.
