Es wird eine verzweigte Intellektuellen- und Ideengeschichte um 1900 aufgeschlagen. Der Sozialphilosoph – heute aber vor allem als Schwiegersohn Wagners, Bayreuther Ideologe und Vordenker Hitlers bekannte – Chamberlain pflegte intensive Beziehungen zu jüdischen Intellektuellen. Erstaunliche Konstellationen zwischen Rassentheorie, Kulturreform, Kunst und Wissenschaft werden in einer Zeit lebendig, in der sich antisemitische und zionistische Anschauungen konsolidierten, revolutionär Konservative auf avantgardistische Künstler trafen und sich reformbewegte Sonnenanbeter gleichzeitig links- und rechtspopulistisch orientierten.
Kritische Untersuchungen zu Chamberlain und Persönlichkeiten jüdischer Herkunft sind ein Desiderat. Die Analyse und Auswertung dieser unbekannten Korrespondenzen und Hintergründe zielen in den Kernbereich deutsch-jüdischer Forschung. Das Buch zeigt Chamberlain, der in der kulturellen Szene Wiens und Bayreuths zwischen 1890 und 1920 eine Schlüsselfigur darstellt, im feingeistigen Austausch mit jüdischen Intellektuellen wie Karl Kraus, Walther Rathenau, Maximilian Harden, Otto Weininger und Martin Buber.
Es werden ideologische Verschränkungen in der Moderne und daraus resultierende Verhaltensmuster herausragender Persönlichkeiten aufgedeckt, die in Bezug auf antisemitische Verkrümmungen und sogenannten jüdischen Selbsthass eine lange Vorgeschichte des »Dritten Reiches« belegen.

Wie kommt das Neue der Mode auf die Welt? Alicia Kühl zeigt, dass das Neue nicht mehr im Modedesign, sondern im Modenschaudesign behauptet wird. In ihrer modetheoretisch fundierten Arbeit, für die sie zudem Theorien des Performativen, des Raumes, der Atmosphären und des Neuen hinzuzieht, untersucht sie Modenschauen ausgewählter Haute-Couture-und Prêt-à-porter-Designer_innen der letzten 30 Jahre und zeichnet nach, inwieweit die in ihnen erzeugten Atmosphären als Lösung einer vestimentären »Inventionsbredouille« eingesetzt werden. Die Studie hinterfragt erstmals die Funktion und Position der Modenschau innerhalb des Modezyklus, was auch eine Neubewertung der Rolle der Kleidung nach sich zieht.
Die Kirche Saint-Lazare in Autun wurde zu Beginn des 12. Jahrhunderts für die Reliquien des Lazarus von Bethanien erbaut. Das Bildprogramm der neuen Kirche musste sowohl den Ansprüchen und Interessen der Auftraggeber entsprechen als auch auf den Patron der Kirche Bezug nehmen und dem Sonderstatus als Pilgerkirche gerecht werden. Die Autorin untersucht, ob sich die einzelnen Bilder auch einem theologisch eher ungeschulten Betrachter erschließen und welche Bedeutung die Bewegung des Betrachters im Kirchenraum hat. In der Kombination von intensiver Betrachtung des Einzelbildes und sukzessiver Erfassung des Gebäudeensembles wird ein Wahrnehmungs- und Erkenntnisprozess in Gang gesetzt, der von der Anschauung des Sichtbaren zur inneren Schau führen soll.
