„It’s the Strategy, Stupid!“

The negative vote of the French population to the European Constitution shocked the European politics. It shifted the power constellations within the Union. By giving historical examples, the author explains that the refusal of the French population is not a new phenomenon. As a result, the article suggests to slow down the European integration process in order to prevent further setbacks.
Vonseiten Nordkoreas wurde der Tod Kim Jong-ils am 17. Dezember 2011 mitgeteilt. Kim Jong-il war der Zweite der Familie, der Nordkorea regierte, nach seinem Vater Kim Il-sung. Die fortfolgende Herrschaft der leiblichen Söhne gibt dem Ganzen eine archaisch traditionale Komponente. Das Erstaunliche ist, warum dies trotz allem auch im 21. Jahrhundert zu funktionieren scheint.
Zwischenruf: Obama und Osama

Wie aus heiterem Himmel teilte US-Präsident Barack Obama mit, Osama bin Laden, der mutmaßlich Hauptverantwortliche für die Anschläge auf das World Trade Center in New York am 11. September 2001, sei durch US-Spezialkräfte erschossen worden. Ist nun der "Kampf der Kulturen" zu Ende? Dann der Hinweis, Osama sei schon zuvor politisch tot gewesen; die arabischen Revolutionen hätten den politischen Schwerpunkt auf Menschenrechte und Demokratie verlegt. Doch die Ermordung bin Ladens deutet eine andere Entwicklung an: Die Abschaffung von Freiheit und Menschenrechten im Namen von Freiheit und Menschenrechten.
