In vielen Ländern ist Wassermangel ein zentrales Problem. Die Politikwissenschaftlerin Julia Bar ist der Ansicht, dass diese Krise in politischem und gesellschaftlichem Unvermögen der beteiligten Akteure begründet ist. Am Beispiel Zentralasiens analysiert die Autorin das Konfliktpotenzial der Ressource Wasser anhand der zwischen- und innerstaatlichen Dimension. Es werden die Nutzungs- und Verteilungskonflikte um das Wasser in der Region sowie die Faktoren zur Verbesserung der nachhaltigen Wassernutzung untersucht. Als zentraler Lösungsansatz wird das Konzept des Integrierten Wasserressourcen-Managements behandelt und seine Anwendbarkeit in Bezug auf Zentralasien diskutiert. Die Autorin kommt zu dem Schluss, dass für die Etablierung eines nachhaltigen Ressourcennutzungssystems Kooperation und Konsensfindung der Akteure entscheidend sind.

Die Einsätze erhöhen sich. Player wie China mischen die Karten am Tisch des globalen Rohstoffpokers neu. Deutschland nimmt die Herausforderung an und verändert seine Strategie. Experten und Kritiker dieser Neuausrichtung kommen zu Wort. Ohne die Einbeziehung der geopolitisch entscheidenden Mitspieler Zentralasien und Russland können die Karten aber nicht aufgedeckt werden.

Die Frage nach der politischen Ordnung steht im Mittelpunkt des Lehrtextes zur Einführung in die Wissenschaft von der Res Publica. Dieses als Skript konzipierte Lehrbuch dient als Grundlage der Einführungsvorlesung an der Universität Potsdam. Mit einem nüchternen Blick in die Geschichte, von der Antike über die frühe Neuzeit bis in die Gegenwart – und dies global – wird das Politische aus verschiedenen Perspektiven diskutiert. Es ist vor allem ein Text für jene, die sich mit dem Politischen zu beschäftigen beginnen, jedoch auch für jene lohnenswert, die sich erneut der Grundlagen versichern möchten.
Durch den Tod von Kenneth N. Waltz hat die akademische Disziplin der Internationalen Beziehungen ihren gegenwärtig größten und einflussreichsten Denker verloren. In verschiedenen Nachrufen von Schülern und Kollegen wurde zu Recht darauf hingewiesen, dass Kenneth Waltz, egal wie man zu seiner Theorie des strukturellen Realismus (der Begriff, den er dem des Neorealismus vorzog) steht, wie kein anderer die Disziplin der Internationalen Beziehungen nach dem Ende des Zweiten Weltkrieges geprägt hat.
Die vier Buchrezensionenum die Islamische Republik Iran spiegeln die ganze Bandbreite des Dilemmas im Umgang mit dem politisch gewichtigsten und auch umstrittensten Land im Nahen Osten wider. Sie zeigen die tiefe Spaltung, die in der Publizistik gegenüber diesem Land existiert; sei es in der Presse oder Fachliteratur.
