The clerodane diterpenoids trans-kolavenolic acid, 18-oxocleroda-3,13(E)-dien-15-oic acid, ent-(18- hydroxycarbonyl)-cleroda- 3,13(E)-dien-15-oate, 2-oxo-ent-cleroda-3,13(Z)-dien-15-oic acid and trans-2-oxo-ent-cleroda- 13(Z)-en-15-oic acid, and the chlorobenzenoid O-(3-hydroxy-4-hydroxycarbonyl-5-pentylphenyl)-3-chloro-4-methoxy-6-pentyl- 2-oxybenzoic acid were isolated from Tessmannia martiniana var pauloi and T. martiniana var matiniana. Structures were established based on interpretation of spectroscopic data. Some of the compounds exhibited significant antimosquito, antifungal and antibacterial activities.
Multinuclear dynamic NMR spectroscopy of 3,5-bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)-1,3,5-oxadiazinane (3) revealed the existence of two conformers with differently oriented CF3 groups with respect to the ring, and two dynamic processes: ring inversion and restricted rotation about the N-S bond. Two transition states connecting the two conformers and corresponding to clockwise and counterclockwise rotations about the N-S bond were found; the calculated activation barriers of about 12 kcal/mol are in excellent agreement with those measured experimentally for the related molecule 1,3,5-tris(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)-1,3,5-triazinane (1). X-ray analysis proved the existence of the symmetric isomer of 3, which is the minor isomer in solutions but the only one in the crystal due to packing effects. The normal Perlin effect (JCHax < JCHeq)observed for 2(6)-CH2 in 3, whereas the reversed Perlin effect was found for the 4-CH2 group in 3 as well as for all CH2 groups in 1 both experimentally and theoretically. The latter effect in compounds 1, 3, and 1- (methylsulfonyl)-3,5-bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)-1,3,5-triazinane (2) can be considered as a genuine reverse Perlin effect since larger values of 1JCH are observed for longer C-H bonds.
The synthesis of six analogs of N,N;-diacetylchitobiose is reported, including a novel transglycosylation reaction for the preparation of S-aryl thioglycosides. The conformations of the compounds were studied by a combination of NMR spectroscopy and molecular modeling, using force field calculations. In the case of the S-aryl thioglycosides with exclusively S-glycosidic linkages, dihedral angles of the disaccharidic S-glycosidic bonds, ;; and ;; and of the S-arylglycoside bonds, ; and ;, were found to be similar, whereas they were different in mixed glycosides and in a thiazoline derivative. An adequate correlation between the calculated H,H-distances of the local minima and the measured NOE contacts was achieved by applying population-weighted averages over participating conformers based on weighted relative energies.
The spatial magnetic properties, through-space NMR shieldings (TSNMRS), of typical N-heterocyclic carbenes NHCs, r-NHCs, a-NHCs and MICs have been calculated using the GIAO perturbation method employing the nucleus independent chemical shift (NICS) concept and visualized as iso-chemical-shielding surfaces (ICSS) of various size and direction. Prior to that both structures and 13C chemical shifts were calculated and in case of isolated carbenes the computed δ(13C)/ppm values compared (as a quality criterion for obtained structures) with the experimental ones. The TSNMRS values of the studied carbenes, which are in mesomeric equilibrium with zwitterionic (ylide/betaine/mesoionic) resonance contributors, are employed to qualify and quantify the present electronic structure and if the term carbene is still justified to denote the compounds studied. The results, thus obtained from spatial magnetic properties (TSNMRS), are compared with the geometry of the compounds, the corresponding WIBERG's bond index values, and the 13C chemical shifts especially of the carbene electron-deficient centre.
A new synthetic approach to 2,3-dihydro-4H-1,3-thiazine derivatives based upon reductive rearrangement of 1,2- dithiole-3-ylidene thiones has been developed. In turn, the 1,2-dithiole derivatives were prepared by an efficient ring- opening-closing process of 2-alkylidene-4-oxothiazolidines, induced in the presence of Lawesson's reagent by intramolecular non-bonded 1,5-type S...O interactions in the 4-oxothiazolidine precursors.
Geometry, 11B, 13C chemical shifts and the spatial magnetic properties (Through-Space NMR Shieldings -TSNMRS) of both cations and anions of boron-trapped N-heterocyclic carbenes (NHCs) and cyclic (alkyl)(amino)carbenes (CAACs) and of the corresponding diborane/diborene/diboryne dis-carbene adducts have been calculated using the GIAO perturbation method employing the nucleus independent chemical shift (NICS) concept; the TSNMRS results are visualized as iso-chemical-shielding surfaces (ICSS) of various size and direction. The ICSS of the TSNMRS (actually the anisotropy effects measurable in 1H NMR spectroscopy) are employed to qualify and quantify the present multiple bond character of the Carbene-Boron bond in the trapped NHCs and CAACs. Results are confirmed by bond length and 11B/13C chemical shift variations. Thus the partial multiple bond character of the Carbene-Boron bond cannot be expressed by the arrow of weak, much longer dative bonds and should be omitted as in other covalent lone pair-it or triel bonds. & COPY; 2023 Elsevier Ltd. Molecular structure and conformational behavior of 3-isopropoxy-3-methyl-3-oxasilinane is studied by low temperature C-13 NMR spectroscopy and theoretical calculations (DFT, MP2). Two conformers, 1-ROax and 1-ROeq, were found experimentally and located on the potential energy surface. LT C-13 NMR spectroscopy gives almost equal population of the two conformers at 98 K with Delta G(98K)degrees=0.02 kcal/mol in favor of 1-ROax and Delta G(98K)(#)=4.5 kcal/mol. The corresponding DFT calculated values (Delta G(98K)degrees=0.03 kcal/mol, Delta G(98K)(#)=5.1 kcal/mol) are in excellent agreement with the experiment. Detailed DFT and MP2 calculations of the solvent effect on the conformational equilibrium were performed and highlighted the leveling out of the two conformers when transferred from gas to solution. Information about the strength of donor–acceptor interactions in push–pull alkenes is valuable, as this so-called “push–pull effect” influences their chemical reactivity and dynamic behaviour. In this paper, we discuss the applicability of NMR spectral data and barriers to rotation around the C[double bond, length as m-dash]C double bond to quantify the push–pull effect in biologically important 2-alkylidene-4-oxothiazolidines. While olefinic proton chemical shifts and differences in 13C NMR chemical shifts of the two carbons constituting the C[double bond, length as m-dash]C double bond fail to give the correct trend in the electron withdrawing ability of the substituents attached to the exocyclic carbon of the double bond, barriers to rotation prove to be a reliable quantity in providing information about the extent of donor–acceptor interactions in the push–pull systems studied. In particular all relevant kinetic data, that is the Arrhenius parameters (apparent activation energy Ea and frequency factor A) and activation parameters (ΔS‡, ΔH‡ and ΔG‡), were determined from the data of the experimentally studied configurational isomerization of (E)-9a. These results were compared to previously published related data for other two compounds, (Z)-1b and (2E,5Z)-7, showing that experimentally determined ΔG‡ values are a good indicator of the strength of push–pull character. Theoretical calculations of the rotational barriers of eight selected derivatives excellently correlate with the calculated C[double bond, length as m-dash]C bond lengths and corroborate the applicability of ΔG‡ for estimation of the strength of the push–pull effect in these and related systems.
The spatial magnetic properties, through-space NMR shieldings (TSNMRS), of bent allene 1, the corresponding C-extended 1,3-butadiene derivative 2, and a number of related compounds 3 -20 have been calculated using the gauge-independent atomic orbital perturbation method, employing the nucleus-independent chemical shift concept and visualized as isochemical shielding surfaces of various sizes and directions. Prior to that, both structures and C-13 chemical shifts were calculated and compared with available experimental bond lengths and delta(C-13)/ppm values (also, as a quality criterion for the computed structures). Bond lengths, the delta(C-13)/ppm, and the TSNMRS values are employed to qualify and quantify the electronic structure of the studied compounds in terms of dative or classical electron-sharing bonds.
