Bei unseren östlichen Nachbarn werden derzeit mehrere Jubiläen zelebriert: 25 Jahre politischer Umbruch, 15 Jahre Mitgliedschaft in der NATO und 10 Jahre in der EU. WeltTrends nimmt diese geballte Zahlenmagie zum Anlass, Polen zum Thema zu machen. Heft 100 gewährt einen Einblick in die aktuellen außenpolitischen Diskurse in Polen: Sei es zum Verhältnis zur EU, zu den USA oder zu Russland. Natürlich geht es dabei stets auch um das Verhältnis zu Deutschland und ob die Anfang der 1990er Jahre proklamierte „strategische Interessengemeinschaft“ zu einer tatsächlichen Partnerschaft geworden ist.

Welche Rolle hat die politische Opposition in autoritären Regimen? Das vorliegende Arbeitspapier formuliert generelle Überlegungen zum Phänomen des Autoritarismus im 21. Jahrhundert und entwickelt ein Konzept, mit dem regionenübergreifend das politische Agieren der Opposition in autoritären Regimen analysiert werden kann.

Die jüngsten Unruhen in der arabischen Welt haben eine jahrzehntelange Periode politischer Stagnation beendet. Bei der anstehenden staatlichen Reorganisation werden sowohl Militärs als auch islamistische Bewegungen eine wichtige Rolle spielen. Infolge der Umstürze verschieben sich nicht nur regionale Kräfteverhältnisse, sondern auch die Einflussmöglichkeiten der Weltmächte im Nahen Osten. Die USA und der Westen insgesamt verlieren an Relevanz und müssen ihre Nahostpolitik auf ein neues Fundament stellen. Das machtpolitische Vakuum in dem energie- und sicherheitspolitisch bedeutsamen Raum aber werden neue Akteure wie China und die Türkei füllen.

Die Frage nach der politischen Ordnung steht im Mittelpunkt des Lehrtextes zur Einführung in die Wissenschaft von der Res Publica. Dieses als Skript konzipierte Lehrbuch dient als Grundlage der Einführungsvorlesung an der Universität Potsdam. Mit einem nüchternen Blick in die Geschichte, von der Antike über die frühe Neuzeit bis in die Gegenwart – und dies global – wird das Politische aus verschiedenen Perspektiven diskutiert. Es ist vor allem ein Text für jene, die sich mit dem Politischen zu beschäftigen beginnen, jedoch auch für jene lohnenswert, die sich erneut der Grundlagen versichern möchten.
