Das Wort der "Genialität der Gerechtigkeit" stammt von Nietzsche selbst, der bekannte, dass er diese Form der Genialität mindestens ebenso hoch schätze wie alle übrigen. Gerade in den letzten Jahren seit Erscheinen der ersten Auflage ist die Problematik der Gerechtigkeit bei Nietzsche so stark in den Vordergrund gerückt wie lange nicht. Die Neuauflage unternimmt vor diesem Hintergrund den Versuch einer Neubewertung.
Die Vorrede der Hegelschen Rechtsphilosophie endet mit einem denkwürdigen Bild: "Wenn die Philosophie ihr Grau in Grau malt, dann ist eine Gestalt des Lebens alt geworden, und mit Grau in Grau lässt sie sich nicht verjüngen, sondern nur erkennen; die Eule der Minerva beginnt erst mit der einbrechenden Dämmerung ihren Flug." Was ist mit diesem Rätselwort gemeint? Und was bedeutet es für die Rechtsphilosophie?
Der vorliegende Sammelband setzt sich grundlegend aus interdisziplinärer Perspektive mit einer Kulturgeschichte von Krieg und Frieden am Beginn der Moderne auseinander. Kriegserfahrungen und Friedenssehnsucht prägten nicht nur die Politik des 18. Jahrhunderts, sondern mindestens ebenso sehr auch die Künste, die Wissenschaften und das tägliche Leben. Die Praxis der Kriegführung und die damit verbundenen Diskurse von Patriotismus und Nationalismus standen jedoch in erheblicher Spannung zu wichtigen Epochensignaturen der Aufklärung, darunter z. B. Naturrecht, Vernunft- und Geschichtsoptimismus, Toleranz und Kosmopolitismus. Die Phänomene ›Krieg‹ und ›Frieden‹ werden hier als Anlässe und Ergebnisse von kultureller Sinnstiftung mit ihren charakteristischen Brüchen und Verwerfungen wissenschaftlich verhandelt. Im Zentrum stehen vielfältige Repräsentationen und Inszenierungen, Erinnerungen und Rituale sowie auch Interpretationen und Rhetoriken von Krieg und Frieden unter aufklärerischen Vorzeichen. Der Band ist hervorgegangen aus der Jahrestagung der Deutschen Gesellschaft für die Erforschung des 18. Jahrhunderts (DGEJ) im Jahr 2012. Beigetragen haben sowohl nationale als auch internationale Wissenschaftlerinnen und Wissenschaftler aus der Literatur- und Geschichtswissenschaft sowie aus der Philosophie, der Theologie, der Medizin, dem Völkerrecht und der Musikwissenschaft mit einschlägigen Fallstudien zu verschiedenen Bereichen der Hoch- und Alltagskultur.
Literatur und Malerei sind im Frankreich des 19. Jahrhunderts aufs Engste miteinander verknüpft. Sie bringen ein geradezu unerschöpfliches Arsenal an malenden Dichtern beziehungsweise dichtenden Malern hervor. Wie lässt sich dieser reiche Bestand fruchtbar machen für die jüngsten theoretischen Studien der vielzitierten „Wende zum Bild“? Und umgekehrt: Welche neuen Lesarten gewinnen diese sowohl literarischen als auch künstlerischen Primärmaterialien im Fokus der aktuellen theoretischen Arbeiten?
Vor dem Hintergrund des gegenwärtig transdisziplinär diskutierten iconic turn, aber auch ausgehend von Studien zum konkreten Zusammenspiel von Text- und Bildmedium, fragt dieser Band nach dem Potential der Interferenz von Visualisierungs-, Visibilisierungs- und Verschriftlichungsstrategien im Frankreich des 19. Jahrhunderts. Er widmet sich Fragen der Repräsentation, des Bildens und des Bildes und versteht sich als Beitrag zu einer bildwissenschaftlich informierten Literaturund Kulturwissenschaft.
The fourth volume in the LAPASEC series (Landau-Paris Studies on the Eighteenth Century), this collection of essays is based on an international conference held in Landau, in June 2014. The symposium united scholars from the United States, Britain, France, Germany, and Spain. The best papers delivered at this occasion were augmented with additional contributions by scholars working on aspects of the (landscape) garden in the long eighteenth century. Focussing on some neglected aspects of the discourse on gardens in the Enlightenment and in early Romanticism, the book systematically unfolds the variety and importance of European garden culture in a comparative perspective. Particular attention is given to the special configuration of discourses concerned with the garden that actually had an impact on writing and planning. This configuration consisted of theory, praxis, and the metaphorical as well as concrete appropriation of both. This is the reason why the book is divided into three parts – the theory of gardens, the garden as utopos and eutopos between Cythera and pleasure garden, and the exotic (non-European) garden and its influence on the Old World. The assessment of the discourse on gardens of the long eighteenth century thus covers a relatively large area. What the three parts have in common is the fact that they focus especially on the rhizomatic connection of the discourses. Partly derived from botany, the idea of the rhizome, further developed and theorized by Deleuze and Guattari, seems to be a concept of thinking that is particularly well suited for the enterprise undertaken in this book. With the present collection of scholarly essays from five countries, the editors hope to make accessible important contemporary research on the garden in the spirit of Voltaire who famously urged his contemporaries: "il faut cultiver notre jardin". This book not only "cultivates" the garden in Voltaire's sense, it also demonstrates how the discourse on the garden affected.
Dieser Band entstand auf der Basis von Beiträgen, die zum XXIV. Internationalen Kolloquium des Studienkreises ‘Geschichte der Sprachwissenschaft’ vom 22. bis 24. August 2013 vorgetragen wurden. Ausschlaggebend für die Wahl des Themas war nicht ein Befolgen des Zeitgeistes, der immer wieder auf die Krise hinweist, die Europa durchlebt und die sich natürlich auch im metasprachlichen Bewusstsein niederschlägt, sondern die Absicht, eine von der Feststellung von Kontinuitäten in der Entwicklung der Sprachwissenschaft unterschiedene Forschungsperspektive einzunehmen.
Krisenzeiten und Umbrüche führen allerdings tatsächlich auch zu veränderten Diskursstrategien und Bezeichnungsmustern, die auch von linguistischen Laien wahrgenommen und diskutiert werden. Sprachwandeltheorien spiegeln zwar ein Bewusstsein von Phasen sehr dynamischer sprachlicher Entwicklungen wider, nicht jedoch ein Interesse an dem gesellschaftlich bedingten initialen Moment, an dem anfänglichen Auslöser von Sprachwandel. Eine Umbruchkonzeption, die Gesellschafts- und Sprachgeschichte in diesem Sinn aufeinander beziehen würde, wurde bisher nicht entwickelt. ...
Viel mehr als dieser lebensweltliche Bezug des Verhältnisses von Sprache und Krise bildete jedoch die Sichtung der historiographischen Literatur der letzten Jahre und Jahrzehnte den Ausgangspunkt für das Thema dieses Bandes. Immer wieder werden begriffliche Kontinuitäten, Einflüsse zurückliegender Autoren auf spätere und die Verpflichtung moderner Theorien gegenüber früheren Ansätzen konstatiert. Meistens geschieht dies zu Recht, doch das wissenschaftshistorische Interesse für die Innovation oder auch den theoretischen Verlust, mit einem Wort die Diskontinuität, sollte nicht vernachlässigt werden. Dabei gibt es durchaus immer wieder Behauptungen des völlig Neuen in sprachtheoretischen Publikationen, die eine Tradition und die jetzt neue, gültige Theorie, die sogenannte Vorgeschichte eines Theorems und den Beginn der eigentlichen Wissenschaft in Gegensatz zueinander stellen. Doch solche Behauptungen stammen von den Sprachwissenschaftlern selbst, sie dienen meist der Hervorhebung des eigenen Standpunkts und sind keine Ergebnisse professioneller Historiographie.
Gespenstergeschichten

Welchen Stellenwert nimmt die Rote Armee Fraktion innerhalb der deutschen Geschichte ein? Eignet sie sich als Prisma für ein Nachdenken über Kunst, Trauma und Erinnerung nach 1945? Und was gibt sie uns über die deutsche Gesellschaft, ihre bewussten und unbewussten Mechanismen der Selbstverständigung zu verstehen?
Svea Bräunert nähert sich diesen und weiteren Fragen über die Kunst: Literatur, Film und bildende Kunst haben sich von Anfang an von der RAF angesprochen und herausgefordert gefühlt. Mit dem Linksterrorismus greifen sie ein Thema auf, das eine breite Palette an historischen, politischen, medialen und mnemonischen Fragestellungen eröffnet. Neben kanonischen Positionen von Richter, Kluge und Enzensberger werden zur Betrachtung derselben auch neuere Arbeiten von Demand, DeLillo und Dumas herangezogen.
Die Beschäftigung mit den künstlerischen Ansätzen steht im Kontext eines thematisch-theoretischen Nachdenkens über die RAF, das den Linksterrorismus als eine besondere Form des Traumas begreift und das Gespenst als Ausdruck dieser Besonderheit stark macht. Das Gespenst ist die Gestalt, die ein Trauma dennoch annehmen kann, obwohl es sich eigentlich jeder Form von Darstellung entziehen müsste. Möglich wird dies durch seinen metonymischen und nachträglichen Impuls. Er erlaubt es dem Gespenst, etwas auf verschobene Weise zur Anschauung zu bringen, was sonst ungesehen oder unausgesprochen bleiben müsste. Indem das Buch diese Verschiebungen nachvollzieht, leistet es ebenso einen Beitrag zur Kulturgeschichte der Bundesrepublik wie zur erinnerungstheoretischen Diskussion.
