Editorial: Die Palette menschenrechtlicher Themen ist denkbar breit, wird aber durch die jeweiligen Disziplinen konturiert und von den einzelnen Autoren präzisiert. Aus philosophischer Perspektive behandelt Malte Fabian Büchs die Verknüpfung der Geschichte der Menschenrechte mit derjenigen der Moderne, die unlängst von Etienne Balibar hergestellt wurde. Die Rezeption der Allgemeinen Erklärung der Menschenrechte in den Beratungen des Parlamentarischen Rates über das Grundgesetz für die Bundesrepublik Deutschland nimmt Daniel Eberhardt in den Blick. Während in Heft 2/2008 die Allgemeine Erklärung als Klassikertext in einen breiten Zusammenhang gestellt wurde, erfolgt hier die Einbettung in einen konkreten Akt der Verfassunggebung. Der Beitrag „Konfliktparteien vor dem Europäischen Gerichtshof für Menschenrechte“ von Cornelius Wiesener behandelt das Verhältnis von humanitärem Völkerrecht und Menschenrechten am konkreten Beispiel des Krieges zwischen Rußland und Georgien im Jahr 2008. In Ergänzung des Themenschwerpunktes „Medizin und Menschenrechte“ aus Heft 2/2008 beschäftigt sich Maren Mylius mit der Beteiligung von Medizinern an Menschenrechtsverletzungen in Argentinien und fragt: „Folter unter ärztlicher Aufsicht?“ Unter dem Titel „Aufarbeitung oder Versöhnung in Kambodscha? Eine Justiz für die Roten Khmer“ befassen sich Philippe Gréciano und Birte Kaspers mit dem gemischten Tribunal in Kambodscha, das bestimmte Verbrechen aus der Zeit Pol Pots ahnden soll. Anne Dieter, Marianna Hillmer und Julia Szilat erinnern in der historischen Miszelle an den 140. Geburtstag von Mahatma Gandhi. Der Dokumentationsteil enthält den traditionellen Bericht über die Arbeit des Menschenrechtsausschusses der Vereinten Nationen im Jahre 2008. Der zweite Teil, verfasst von Anne Foith, behandelt das Individualbeschwerdeverfahren. Buchbesprechungen runden das Heft ab, bei dessen Herstellung uns Birte Kaspers redaktionell tatkräftig unterstützt hat. Im Oktober 2009 endet die Amtszeit unserer Direktoren Prof. Dr. Eckart Klein und Prof. Dr. Christoph Menke. Prof. Menke ist an die Johann Wolfgang Goethe-Universität Frankfurt am Main gewechselt und Prof. Klein ist bereits im letzten Jahr in den Ruhestand getreten. Als sein Nachfolger ist Prof. Dr. Andreas Zimmermann an die Juristische Fakultät der Universität Potsdam berufen worden. Er wird zunächst alleiniger Direktor des MRZ werden. Wir wünschen unseren Lesern eine anregende Lektüre.

Aus dem Editorial: "Seit Anfang April diesen Jahres feiert Tel Aviv sein 100jähriges Jubiläum. Bei über 400 verschiedenartigsten Veranstaltungen in dieser israelischen Stadt und in unzähligen Orten außerhalb Israels wird 2009 über deren Geschichte resümiert, reflektiert sowie (kritisch) diskutiert. Dabei wird nicht nur die Geschichte der Stadt thematisiert, sondern gerade auch die Gegenwart und insbesondere deren Zukunft. Aus diesem Anlass weist die diesjährige Ausgabe von PaRDeS den Themenschwerpunkt 100 Jahre Tel Aviv /100th anniversary of Tel Aviv auf. Israelische, (zeitweise) in Tel Aviv oder in anderen Ländern tätige Wissenschaftlerinnen und Wissenschaftler nähern sich aus mitunter sehr unterschiedlichen Perspektiven und Wissensbereichen der Geschichte und Gegenwart dieser größten israelischen Stadt. Anita Shapira eröffnet mit Tel Aviv, a White City on the Sands den insgesamt sieben Artikel umfassenden Themenschwerpunkt. In ihrem Beitrag umreißt sie die Entstehungsgeschichte der israelischen Großstadt bis zur Gründung des Staates Israel 1948. Shapira geht dabei insbesondere auf zionistische Ideen bei der Stadtgründung und deren (stellenweise nicht) erfolgte Realisierung ein. In den 1920er und 30er Jahren wird das modernisierte Hebräisch zur Triebfeder bei der Herausbildung einer neuen säkular-jüdischen Kultur in Palästina. Innerhalb dieses Prozesses nimmt gerade die jungen Metropole Tel Aviv eine bedeutende Rolle ein. Philipp Messner beschreibt in seinem Beitrag Tel Aviv und die Revolution des hebräischen Schriftbilds diese Umwälzungen auf der graphisch-ästhetischen Ebene des hebräischen Schriftbildes. In ihrem Artikel Von der Einwanderung der Jekim zu ihrer politischen Partizipation bei den Wahlen zum Tel Aviver Stadtrat im Jahr 1936 zeigt Sarah Wittkopf anhand des Publikationsorgans Mitteilungsblatt der Irgun Olej Merkas Europa welchen Widerständen die Einwanderer aus den deutschsprachigen Ländern bei der Mitgestaltung der Politik in Palästina ausgesetzt waren. Im Zentrum der Auseinandersetzungen in Tel Aviv steht der Spitzenkandidat der Einwandererorganisation Felix Rosenblüth. Im vierten Artikel Building a Modern Jewish City: Projects of the Architect Wilhelm Zeev Haller in Tel Aviv stellt Ulrich Knufinke Kontinuitätslinien und -brüche im architektonischen Schaffen Wilhelm Zeev Hallers zwischen Europa und Tel Aviv dar." [die Herausgeber] PaRDeS, die Zeitschrift der Vereinigung für Jüdische Studien e.V., möchte die fruchtbare und facettenreiche Kultur des Judentums sowie seine Berührungspunkte zur Umwelt in den unterschiedlichen Bereichen dokumentieren. Daneben dient die Zeitschrift als Forum zur Positionierung der Fächer Jüdische Studien und Judaistik innerhalb des wissenschaftlichen Diskurses sowie zur Diskussion ihrer historischen und gesellschaftlichen Verantwortung.
Ansätze der materiellen Kulturforschung mit militärgeschichtlichen Fragestellungen zusammenzuführen erscheint naheliegend – ist doch die Welt des Militärs von Dingen geprägt und sind es doch die überlieferten ‚militärischen Artefakte’, wie Waffen, Rüstungen, Ehrenzeichen und Uniformen, die unsere Vorstellungen vom Militär der Frühen Neuzeit erheblich beeinflussen. Dennoch fehlen bisher Untersuchungen, in denen die Fragestellungen des kulturwissenschaftlichen material turn und der frühneuzeitlichen Militärgeschichte aufeinander bezogen werden weitgehend. Das vorliegende Themenheft versteht sich als ein erster Beitrag, diese Lücke zu schließen. Anhand von Untersuchungen zum Umgang mit Dingen und der Bedeutungszuschreibung an Dinge in der militärischen Lebenswelt werden in den Beiträgen so einerseits die Bedeutungsebenen der materiellen Kultur des Militärs und andererseits die Relevanz der materiellen Kultur für die gesellschaftlichen Wahrnehmungsmodi des Militärs als sozialer Gruppe betrachtet. Auf diese Weise gelingt es, mit den Ansätzen der materiellen Kulturforschung innovative Perspektiven auf das Verhältnis von Militär und Gesellschaft zu entwickeln.
Editorial: Wir greifen im vorliegenden Heft eine Reihe von eher praxisorientierten Fragestellungen auf, behandeln aber auch grundlegende Themen. Carolin König widmet sich in ihrem Beitrag über das TRIPS-Übereinkommen menschenrechtlichen Implikationen des geistigen Eigentums, wie sie vor allem für den Handel mit und die Entwicklung von Medikamenten von Bedeutung sind. Johannes Freudenreich und Florian Ranft liefern eine statistische Analyse der 29 Wahrheitskommissionen, die ihre Arbeit beendet haben. Dabei werden Variablen zu Ressourcen, Mandat, Inhalt und Ergebnis von Wahrheitskommissionen untersucht. Die Autoren wollten herausfinden, ob es ein Standardmodell für Wahrheitskommissionen gibt, kommen aber zu dem Ergebnis, dass sich ein solches noch nicht erkennbar herausgebildet hat. Unter dem Titel „Rechtsstaatlichkeit in Europa: Dogmatik im (Kon)text“ beschäftigen sich Philippe Gréciano und Norman Weiß mit dem diesbezüglichen Entwicklungsstand der Europäischen Union und versuchen, aus rechtsvergleichender Perspektive Anregungen für die weitere Entwicklung zu gewinnen. Silke Bruchmüller untersucht in ihrem Beitrag die Aktivitäten des Deutschen Bundestages im Zusammenhang mit der „Terrorismusbekämpfung in der 14. und 15. Legislaturperiode“. Der Beitrag „Menschsein als Teilhabe an innerer und äußerer Würde“ von Linda Pickny behandelt das Thema Menschenwürde aus rechtsphilosophischer Sicht. Anne Dieter ruft dazu auf, die „Menschenrechte leben [zu] lernen“, und erinnert so daran, den wohlweislich bereits in der Präambel der Allgemeinen Erklärung der Menschenrechte geforderten fortschreitenden Prozess der Anerkennung und Verwirklichung von Menschenrechten voranzutreiben. Der Dokumentationsteil enthält den traditionellen Bericht über die Arbeit des Menschenrechtsausschusses der Vereinten Nationen im Jahre 2008. Der erste Teil, verfasst von Anne Foith, behandelt vorrangig das Staatenberichtsverfahren. Corinna Dau und Gunda Meyer führen die Reihe „Mitgliedstaaten des Europarates“ mit einem Artikel über Lettland fort. Alexander Dietz und Frank Martin Brunn beschreiben Inhalte und Strukturen der „Interdisziplinäre[n] Forschung zum Thema Menschenwürde an der Universität Heidelberg“. Dem Problem der „Zirkulären Migration“ ist schließlich der Bericht von Julia Vespermann gewidmet. Buchbesprechungen runden das Heft ab, bei dessen Herstellung uns Jutta Wickenhäuser und Tim Reiß redaktionell unterstützt haben. Gunda Meyer scheidet mit diesem Heft aus der Redaktion aus, um sich ganz auf das Referendariat zu konzentrieren. Ihre Nachfolgerin, Anne Foith, gehört bereits zum Kreis unserer Autorinnen und Autoren. Wir wünschen unseren Lesern eine anregende Lektüre.

Liebe Leserin, lieber Leser, wenn es nach der Bundesfamilienrninisterin geht, soll Deutschland eines der familienfreundlichsten Länder in Europa werden. Noch sieht die Realität allerdings anders aus. Wie Ehemalige sich zwischen familiären und beruflichen Optionen entschieden haben, welche Probleme sie zu bewältigen hatten und welche Lösungen sie fanden, davon berichten sie in unserem Titelthema. Jede dritte Akademikerin bleibt heute in Deutschland kinderlos, Tendenz steigend. Abgesehen davon, dass es auch schlichtweg Lebensentwürfe ohne Kinder gibt: Ein nicht unwesentlicher Grund dafur ist sicherlich, dass die größte Last bei der Kindererziehung immer noch Frauen tragen und sie deshalb auch die größeren Einbußen in ihrer Karriere haben. So herrscht bei vielen Arbeitgebern das Vorurteil, Mütter in Führungspositionen wären weniger leistungsfahig. Dass aber gerade eine Familie Frauen in verantwortungsvollen Positionen den Rücken stärken und zu noch größerem Einsatz beflügeln kann, davon berichtet der einführende Artikel. Ein Beispiel dafür, dass sich Familie und eine berufliche Führungsposition vereinbaren lassen, ist auch Uni-Präsidentin, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Dr. Sabine Kunst. In einem Interview verrät sie ihr ganz persönliches Erfolgsrezept und stellt außerdem die strategische Ausrichtung der Hochschule in den nächsten Jahren vor. Wenn Sie Ihre Erfahrungen zu unserem Titelthema mit anderen Ehemaligen diskutieren wollen, können Sie dies unter .. Forum" in unserem "alumni-portal" tun. Der Arbeitskreis Militär und Gesellschaft in der Frühen Neuzeit e. V. wurde im Frühjahr 1995 gegründet. Er hat es sich zur Aufgabe gemacht, die Erforschung des Militärs im Rahmen der frühneuzeitlichen Geschichte zu befördern und zugleich das Bewusstsein der Frühneuzeit-HistorikerInnen für die Bedeutung des Militärs in all seinen Funktionen zu wecken. Das Militär steht somit als soziale Gruppe selbst im Mittelpunkt der Aktivitäten des Arbeitskreises, wird aber auch in seinen Wirkungen und Repräsentationen thematisiert. Ziel ist es, die Rolle des Militärs als Teil der frühneuzeitlichen Gesellschaft umfassend herauszuarbeiten und zu würdigen. Insofern versteht der AMG seine Arbeit nicht nur als Beitrag zur Militärgeschichte, sondern vor allem als Beitrag zur Geschichte der Frühen Neuzeit insgesamt. Der Arbeitskreis bietet ein Diskussions- und Informationsforum durch die Organisation von Tagungen, die Herausgabe der Schriftenreihe ‚Herrschaft und soziale Systeme in der Frühen Neuzeit‘, die Zeitschrift ‚Militär und Gesellschaft in der Frühen Neuzeit‘ und die Mailingliste mil-fnz.
"Spektrum Patholinguistik" (Band 2) ist der Tagungsband zum 2. Herbsttreffen Patholinguistik, das der Verband für Patholinguistik (vpl) e.V. am 22.11.2008 an der Universität Potsdam veranstaltet hat. Zum Schwerpunktthema "Ein Kopf - Zwei Sprachen: Mehrsprachigkeit in Forschung und Therapie" sind die drei Hauptvorträge und vier Abstracts von Posterpräsentationen veröffentlicht. Desweiteren enthält der Tagungsband freie Beiträge, u.a. zu Satzverarbeitung und Agrammatismus, Lesestrategien und LRS, Prosodie-Entwicklung, kindlichen Aphasien, Dysphagie-Therapie sowie zu kognitiven Defiziten bei älteren Menschen.
