Albrecht der Bär

Die ehemalige Brandenburg auf der Brandenburger Dominsel, der alte Fürstensitz der slawischen Heveller, gab der Mark Brandenburg ihren Namen. 1150 konnte der Markgraf der sächsischen Nordmark, Albrecht der Bär aus dem Geschlecht der am Ostharz begüterten Askanier, die Havelfeste nach dem Tod des letzten Hevellerherrschers besetzen. Zu den bis heute ungeklärten Problemen im Zusammenhang mit der Entstehung der Mark Brandenburg gehört die Frage, wann Albrecht die Burg wieder verlor, so daß er gezwungen war, sie durch eine Belagerung zum zweiten Male in seine Gewalt zu bringen, was am 11. Juni 1157 geschah. In der folgenden Untersuchung soll erneut der Frage nachgegangen werden, zu welchem Zeitpunkt dem Markgrafen die Brandenburg noch einmal entrissen worden war.

Nachdem Kaiser Karl IV. 1373 seinem Schwiegersohn, Markgraf Otto dem Faulen von Brandenburg, dessen Fürstentum abgenommen hatte, ließ er 1375/76 das sogenannte Landbuch der Mark Brandenburg in lateinischer Sprache anlegen. Es ist eine Zusammenstellung der Burgen, Städte, Dörfer, Ritter, Gerichte, Dienste, Rechte, Zölle und anderer Einkünfte, die dem Markgrafen von Brandenburg damals noch gehörten. Denn vieles davon war von seinen Vorgängern seit dem 13. Jahrhundert zur Beschaffung von Geld bereits an Adlige, Geistliche, Städte und Bürger verpfändet oder verkauft worden. Diese für die spätmittelalterliche Geschichte der Mark Brandenburg äußerst wichtige Quelle ist nur noch in drei Abschriften - von denen zwei aus dem Ende des 14.¿Jahrhunderts stammen, während eine weitere zwischen 1420 und 1450 entstand - im Geheimen Staatsarchiv in Berlin-Dahlem überliefert. Der Text des Landbuches wurde 1781, 1856 und 1940 veröffentlicht. Hier liegt der Nachdruck der Edition von Johannes Schultze des allgemeinen Teils - ohne die Dorfregister - erstmals mit einer deutschen Übersetzung vor. Herausgeber und Verlag hoffen, damit den Heimat- und Ortshistorikern sowie allen an der brandenburgischen Geschichte Interessierten die Arbeit mit dieser wichtigen Quelle zu erleichtern.
Aus dem Vorwort: Der entstehende deutsche Staat hatte 928/29 mit der Unterwerfung der damals östlich von Elbe und Saale siedelnden Slawen begonnen. Den meisten Stämmen war es jedoch durch den Aufstand von 983 gelungen, nochmals ihre Freiheit zu erkämpfen. Im 12. Jahrhundert begann ein erneuter Vorstoß. Während dieser zweiten Etappe der feudalen deutschen Ostexpansion wurden bis um 1300 die nördlichen und mittleren Teile des jetzt zur DDR gehörenden Gebietes endgültig dem deutschen Reich angegliedert. Damals entstand die Mehrzahl unserer Städte und Dörfer. Im 10. Jahrhundert hatten die Könige Heinrich I. und Otto I. das Vordringen nach Osten geleitet. Während des 12. und 13. Jahrhunderts lag die Initiative in den Händen der ostsächsischen Fürsten. Sie gingen daran, ihren Einfluß auf die slawischen Gebiete auszudehnen, wie der Herzog von Sachsen, Heinrich der Löwe aus dem Geschlecht der Welfen, und Erzbischof Wichmann von Magdeburg, oder gründeten östlich der Elbe neue Territorialherrschaften, wie der Markgraf der Nordmark, Albrecht der Bär aus dem Hause der Askanier, der erste Markgraf von Brandenburg. Im Süden begannen die Wettiner die Marken Lausitz und Meißen zu festigen und zu erweitern. Wie sich die eben grob skizzierten Vorgänge jedoch im einzelnen abgespielt haben, liegt immer noch weitgehend im dunkeln. Vor allem muß damit gerechnet werden, daß sich die Herrschaftsverhältnissein verschiedenen Gebieten mehrfach geändert hatten, bevor etwa in der zweiten Hälfte des 13. Jahrhunderts die Strukturen entstanden waren, die im wesentlichen bis in die neuere Zeit bestimmend blieben. So ist heute vielfach noch unklar oder umrtritten, welche deutsche Feudalgewalt einen bestimmten Raum als erste besetzte und wo der Einflußbereich der nächsten Herrschaft begann. Das gilt in besonderem Maße für die Grenzzonen der sich ausdehnenden Fürstentümer. Aber auch Fragen, die seit langem als geklärt galten, werden plötzlich wieder aufgeworfen, wie die vor der 750-Jahr-Feier Berlins erneut aufgenommene Diekussion über die Anfänge unsarer Hauptstadt beweist.
Die Untersuchung vertieft die Beweisführung für die vor kurzem ausgesprochene These, daß der 1161 erstmals erwähnte Burgward Niemegk zu Beginn der 2. Etappe der deutschen Ostexpansion weder von den Askaniern noch dem Erzbistum Magdeburg okkupiert wurde, sondern von den Grafen von Jabilinze, die auch in Beizig ihre Herrschaft errichteten.

Die historische Forschung hat seit längerem herausgearbeitet, dass Migration nichts von einer Norm Abweichendes ist, sondern vielmehr ein »konstitutives Element der Menschheitsgeschichte« (J. Oltmer), der Mensch mithin stets ein »homo migrans« (K.-J. Bade) war. Auch die Geschichte Brandenburgs wurde seit jeher von Einwanderungsprozessen geprägt. Von »Toleranz« im modernen Sinne kann freilich keine Rede sein, sondern meistens ging es um ökonomisch nutzbringende Aufnahme bestimmter Gruppen. Sehr oft waren die Ansiedlungen aber auch das Ergebnis von Flucht, Vertreibung und kriegerischer Gewalt. Der vorliegende Band zeigt anhand von Beispielen vom frühen Mittelalter bis zur Gegenwart die Bedeutung der Zuwanderung für Brandenburg auf. Der Bogen reicht von der slawischen Einwanderung des 8./9. Jahrhunderts bis zur Ankunft russisch-jüdischer »Kontingentflüchtlinge« im Gefolge der deutschen Wiedervereinigung, von Niederländern, Juden, Hugenotten, Revolutionsflüchtlingen in der Frühen Neuzeit bis hin zu Muslimen, Zwangsarbeitern, Vertriebenen und DDR-»Fremdarbeitern« im 20. Jahrhundert – eine Geschichte der Vielfalt des brandenburgischen Raumes und seiner Bevölkerung im Spiegel der Zuwanderung.
