Aus traditioneller, aufbauorganisatorischer Sicht gilt die Arbeitszeit als eine Randbedingung bei der Aufgabengestaltung. Sofern persönliche Arbeitszeit und Betriebszeit jedoch nicht notwendigerweise übereinstimmen müssen und auch eine zunehmende Entkopplung von Mensch-Mensch- und Mensch-Maschine- Systemen denkbar ist, desto eher ist auch die Arbeitszeit selbst in organisatorische Überlegungen mit einzubeziehen. Dabei kommt den Möglichkeiten flexibler Arbeitszeitgestaltung zunehmende Bedeutung zu, unabhängig davon, ob sie in kollektive oder in individuelle Arbeitszeitregelungen Eingang finden. Insgesamt wird die Zeit-Organisation zu einem Feld organisatorischer Gestaltung mit Konsequenzen auch für die Führung, die durchaus erheblich sein können. Im folgenden Beitrag beschreibt der Autor die Arbeitszeit als Objekt organisatorischer Gestaltung. Im Mittelpunkt der Ausführungen stehen Formen der flexiblen Arbeitszeit und ihre organisatorischen Konsequenzen sowie Auswirkungen auf die Führung. Abschließend werden organisatorische Aspekte bei der Einführung flexibler Arbeitszeiten erörtert und die Frage diskutiert, wer für die Organisation der Arbeitszeit zuständig ist.
