Die Danziger Verwaltungspraxis des frühen 19. Jahrhunderts im Nexus von Reform, Restauration, Emanzipation und antijüdischen Vorurteilen.
Michał Szulc analysiert die Umsetzung der staatlichen Judenpolitik in der preußischen Provinz am Beispiel Danzigs. Dabei zeigt er die Emanzipation der Juden als Kampfplatz von Interessengruppen und individuellen Akteuren. Der Autor untersucht sowohl die Diskussionen vor Ort als auch in machtpolitischen Zentren wie Berlin und Paris.
Deutlich wird dabei die Diskrepanz zwischen gesetzlicher Norm und Alltagspraxis, zwischen politischem Programm und dessen tatsächlicher Wirkung. In diesem politisch-rechtlichen Prozess setzten sich Staat und Stadt konfrontativ über die Lage der Juden in Danzig auseinander. Akteure wie Napoleon I., König Friedrich Wilhelm III. oder Staatskanzler Karl August von Hardenberg versuchten mit unterschiedlichem Erfolg das Ausmaß der Emanzipation ebenso so zu prägen, wie es 'einfache Leute', etwa der Rabbinatskandidat Bram oder der Stadtverordnete Zernecke, taten. Die Rollen der Protagonisten waren dabei variabel: Einige Staatsbeamte vertraten die Position der Stadt, manche Bürger die des Staates. Zudem entwickelte sich im Laufe der Debatte jenseits rechtlicher Normen eine lokale Praxis, die Juden mehr Raum in der Gesellschaft gewährte.
The determination of the total carbon storage of peatlands is of high relevance in the context of climate-change mitigation efforts. This determination relies on data about stratigraphy and peat properties, which are conventionally collected by coring. Ground-penetrating radar (GPR) and electrical resistivity imaging (ERI) can support these point data by providing subsoil information in two-dimensional cross-sections. In this study, GPR and ERI were conducted at two groundwater-fed fen sites located in the temperate zone in north-east Germany. The fens of this region are embedded in low conductive glacial sand and are characterised by thick layers of gyttja, which can be either mineral or organic. The two study sites are representative of this region with respect to stratigraphy (total thickness, peat and gyttja types) and ecological conditions (pH-value, trophic condition). The aim of this study is to assess the suitability of GPR and ERI to detect stratigraphy and peat properties under these characteristic site conditions. Results show that GPR clearly detects the interfaces between (i) Carex and brown-moss peat, (ii) brown-moss peat and organic gyttja, (iii) organic- and mineral gyttja, and (iv) mineral gyttja and the parent material (glacial sand). These layers differ in bulk density and the related organic matter content. ERI, however, does not delineate these layers; rather it delineates regions of varying properties. At our base-rich site, pore fluid conductivity and cation.exchange capacity are the main factors that determine peat electrical conductivity (reverse of resistivity), whereas organic matter and water content are most influential at the more acidic site. Thus the correlation between peat properties and electrical conductivity are driven by site-specific conditions, which are mainly determined by the solute load in the groundwater at fens. When the total organic deposits exceed a thickness of 5 m, the depth of investigation by GPR is limited due to increasing attenuation. This is not a limiting factor for ERI, where the transition from organic deposits to glacial sand is visible at both sites. Due to these specific sensitivities, a combined application of GPR and ERI meets the demand for up-to-date information on carbon storage of peatlands, which is, moreover, very site-specific because of the inherent variety of ecological conditions and stratigraphy between peatlands in general and between fens and bogs in particular. Mycobacterium tuberculosis (M. tuberculosis) is the intracellular bacterium responsible for tuberculosis disease (TD). Inside the phagosomes of activated macrophages, M. tuberculosis is exposed to cytotoxic hydroperoxides such as hydrogen peroxide, fatty acid hydroperoxides and peroxynitrite. Thus, the characterization of the bacterial antioxidant systems could facilitate novel drug developments. In this work, we characterized the product of the gene Rv1608c from M. tuberculosis, which according to sequence homology had been annotated as a putative peroxiredoxin of the peroxiredoxin Q subfamily (PrxQ B from M. tuberculosis or MtPrxQ B). The protein has been reported to be essential for M. tuberculosis growth in cholesterol-rich medium. We demonstrated the M. tuberculosis thioredoxin B/C-dependent peroxidase activity of MtPrxQ B, which acted as a two-cysteine peroxiredoxin that could function, although less efficiently, using a one-cysteine mechanism. Through steady-state and competition kinetic analysis, we proved that the net forward rate constant of MtPrxQ B reaction was 3 orders of magnitude faster for fatty acid hydroperoxides than for hydrogen peroxide (3x10(6) vs 6x10(3) M-1 s(-1), respectively), while the rate constant of peroxynitrite reduction was (0.6-1.4) x10(6) M-1 s(-1) at pH 7.4. The enzyme lacked activity towards cholesterol hydroperoxides solubilized in sodium deoxycholate. Both thioredoxin B and C rapidly reduced the oxidized form of MtPrxQ B, with rates constants of 0.5x10(6) and 1x10(6) M-1 s(-1), respectively. Our data indicated that MtPrxQ B is monomeric in solution both under reduced and oxidized states. In spite of the similar hydrodynamic behavior the reduced and oxidized forms of the protein showed important structural differences that were reflected in the protein circular dichroism spectra.
Reconstructing and understanding the Human Physiome virtually is a complex mathematical problem, and a highly demanding computational challenge. Mathematical models spanning from the molecular level through to whole populations of individuals must be integrated, then personalized. This requires interoperability with multiple disparate and geographically separated data sources, and myriad computational software tools. Extracting and producing knowledge from such sources, even when the databases and software are readily available, is a challenging task. Despite the difficulties, researchers must frequently perform these tasks so that available knowledge can be continually integrated into the common framework required to realize the Human Physiome. Software and infrastructures that support the communities that generate these, together with their underlying standards to format, describe and interlink the corresponding data and computer models, are pivotal to the Human Physiome being realized. They provide the foundations for integrating, exchanging and re-using data and models efficiently, and correctly, while also supporting the dissemination of growing knowledge in these forms. In this paper, we explore the standards, software tooling, repositories and infrastructures that support this work, and detail what makes them vital to realizing the Human Physiome.
In den 2000er-Jahren stiegen die Rohstoffpreise enorm an. Auslöser waren die wirtschaftliche Entwicklung der Schwellenländer, allen voran Chinas, sowie der gestiegene Rohstoffbedarf durch technologische Innovationen. Diese „Rohstoffkrise“ veränderte das Verhältnis der Rohstoff exportierenden und importierenden Staaten zueinander. Auch wird Rohstoffpolitik nicht mehr nur unter wirtschaftlichen, sondern ebenso unter ökologischen und sozialen Kriterien betrachtet. Der Beitrag erläutert die Ursachen und benennt Auswirkungen der Krise.
This dissertation examines the impact of the type of referring expression on the acquisition of word order variation in German-speaking preschoolers. A puzzle in the area of language acquisition concerns the production-comprehension asymmetry for non-canonical sentences like "Den Affen fängt die Kuh." (“The monkey, the cow chases.”), that is, preschoolers usually have difficulties in accurately understanding non-canonical sentences approximately until age six (e.g., Dittmar et al., 2008) although they produce non-canonical sentences already around age three (e.g., Poeppel & Wexler, 1993; Weissenborn, 1990). This dissertation investigated the production and comprehension of non-canonical sentences to address this issue.
Three corpus analyses were conducted to investigate the impact of givenness, topic status and the type of referring expression on word order in the spontaneous speech of two- to four-year-olds and the child-directed speech produced by their mothers. The positioning of the direct object in ditransitive sentences was examined; in particular, sentences in which the direct object occurred before or after the indirect object in the sentence-medial positions and sentences in which it occurred in the sentence-initial position. The results reveal similar ordering patterns for children and adults. Word order variation was to a large extent predictable from the type of referring expression, especially with respect to the word order involving the sentence-medial positions. Information structure (e.g., topic status) had an additional impact only on word order variation that involved the sentence-initial position.
Two comprehension experiments were conducted to investigate whether the type of referring expression and topic status influences the comprehension of non-canonical transitive sentences in four- and five-year-olds. In the first experiment, the topic status of the one of the sentential arguments was established via a preceding context sentence, and in the second experiment, the type of referring expression for the sentential arguments was additionally manipulated by using either a full lexical noun phrase (NP) or a personal pronoun. The results demonstrate that children’s comprehension of non-canonical sentences improved when the topic argument was realized as a personal pronoun and this improvement was independent of the grammatical role of the arguments. However, children’s comprehension was not improved when the topic argument was realized as a lexical NP.
In sum, the results of both production and comprehension studies support the view that referring expressions may be seen as a sentence-level cue to word order and to the information status of the sentential arguments. The results highlight the important role of the type of referring expression on the acquisition of word order variation and indicate that the production-comprehension asymmetry is reduced when the type of referring expression is considered.
A convenient synthesis of gamma-spirolactams in only two steps was developed. Birch reduction of benzoic acids and immediate alkylation with chloroacetonitrile afforded cyclohexadienes in high yields. The products could be isolated by crystallization on a large scale in analytically pure form. Subsequent hydrogenation with platinum(IV) oxide as the catalyst reduced the nitrile functionality and the double bonds in the same step with excellent stereoselectivity. The relative configurations were determined unequivocally by X-ray analyses. Direct cyclization of the intermediary formed amino acids afforded the desired gamma-spirolactams in excellent overall yields. The procedure is characterized by few steps, cheap reagents, and can be performed on a large scale, interesting for industrial processes.
Scripts that store knowledge of everyday events are fundamentally important for managing daily routines. Content event knowledge (i.e., knowledge about which events belong to a script) and temporal event knowledge (i.e., knowledge about the chronological order of events in a script) constitute qualitatively different forms of knowledge. However, there is limited information about each distinct process and the time course involved in accessing content and temporal event knowledge. Therefore, we analyzed event-related potentials (ERPs) in response to either correctly presented event sequences or event sequences that contained a content or temporal error. We found an N400, which was followed by a posteriorly distributed P600 in response to content errors in event sequences. By contrast, we did not find an N400 but an anteriorly distributed P600 in response to temporal errors in event sequences. Thus, the N400 seems to be elicited as a response to a general mismatch between an event and the established event model. We assume that the expectancy violation of content event knowledge, as indicated by the N400, induces the collapse of the established event model, a process indicated by the posterior P600. The expectancy violation of temporal event knowledge is assumed to induce an attempt to reorganize the event model in working memory, a process indicated by the frontal P600. (C) 2015 Elsevier Ltd. 1. Plant-plant interactions may critically modify the impact of climate change on plant communities. However, the magnitude and even direction of potential future interactions remains highly debated, especially for water-limited ecosystems. Predictions range from increasing facilitation to increasing competition with future aridification. 2. The different methodologies used for assessing plant-plant interactions under changing environmental conditions may affect the outcome but they are not equally represented in the literature. Mechanistic experimental manipulations are rare compared with correlative approaches that infer future patterns from current observations along spatial climatic gradients. 3. Here, we utilize a unique climatic gradient in combination with a large-scale, long-term experiment to test whether predictions about plant-plant interactions yield similar results when using experimental manipulations, spatial gradients or temporal variation. We assessed shrub-annual interactions in three different sites along a natural rainfall gradient (spatial) during 9 years of varying rainfall (temporal) and 8 years of dry and wet manipulations of ambient rainfall (experimental) that closely mimicked regional climate scenarios. 4. The results were fundamentally different among all three approaches. Experimental water manipulations hardly altered shrub effects on annual plant communities for the assessed fitness parameters biomass and survival. Along the spatial gradient, shrub effects shifted from clearly negative to mildly facilitative towards drier sites, whereas temporal variation showed the opposite trend: more negative shrub effects in drier years. 5. Based on our experimental approach, we conclude that shrub-annual interaction will remain similar under climate change. In contrast, the commonly applied space-for-time approach based on spatial gradients would have suggested increasing facilitative effects with climate change. We discuss potential mechanisms governing the differences among the three approaches. 6. Our study highlights the critical importance of long-term experimental manipulations for evaluating climate change impacts. Correlative approaches, for example along spatial or temporal gradients, may be misleading and overestimate the response of plant-plant interactions to climate change.
Defining species by their climatic niche is the simple and intuitive principle underlying Bioclimatic Envelope Model (BEM) predictions for climate change effects. However, these correlative models are often criticised for neglecting many ecological processes. Here, we apply the same niche principle to entire communities within a medium/long-term climate manipulation study, where ecological processes are inherently included. In a nine generation study in Israel, we manipulated rainfall (Drought -30%; Irrigation +30%; Control natural rainfall) at two sites which differ chiefly in rainfall quantity and variability. We analysed community responses to the manipulations by grouping species based on their climatic rainfall niche. These responses were compared to analyses based on single species, total densities, and commonly used taxonomic groupings. Climate Niche Groups yielded clear and consistent results: within communities, those species distributed in drier regions performed relatively better in the drought treatment, and those from wetter climates performed better when irrigated. In contrast, analyses based on other principles revealed little insight into community dynamics. Notably, most relationships were weaker at the drier, more variable site, suggesting that enhanced adaptation to variability may buffer climate change impacts. We provide robust experimental evidence that using climatic niches commonly applied in BEMs is a valid approach for eliciting community changes in response to climate change. However, we also argue that additional empirical information needs to be gathered using experiments in situ to correctly assess community vulnerability. Climatic Niche Groups used in this way, may therefore provide a powerful tool and directional testing framework to generalise and compare climate change impacts across habitats. (C) 2016 The Authors. Context. For the spectral analysis of high-resolution and high signal-to-noise (S/N) spectra of hot stars, state-of-the-art non-local thermodynamic equilibrium (NLTE) model atmospheres are mandatory. These are strongly dependent on the reliability of the atomic data that is used for their calculation. Aims. New Kr IV-VII oscillator strengths for a large number of lines enable us to construct more detailed model atoms for our NLTE model-atmosphere calculations. This enables us to search for additional Kr lines in observed spectra and to improve Kr abundance determinations. Methods. We calculated Kr IV-VII oscillator strengths to consider radiative and collisional bound-bound transitions in detail in our NLTE stellar-atmosphere models for the analysis of Kr lines that are exhibited in high-resolution and high S/N ultraviolet (UV) observations of the hot white dwarf RE 0503-289. Results. We reanalyzed the effective temperature and surface gravity and determined T-eff = 70 000 +/- 2000 K and log (g/cm s(-2)) = 7.5 +/- 0.1. We newly identified ten Kr V lines and one Kr vi line in the spectrum of RE 0503-289. We measured a Kr abundance of 3.3 +/- 0.3 (logarithmic mass fraction). We discovered that the interstellar absorption toward RE 0503-289 has a multi-velocity structure within a radial-velocity interval of -40 km s(-1) < upsilon(rad) < +18 km s(-1). Conclusions. Reliable measurements and calculations of atomic data are a prerequisite for state-of-the-art NLTE stellar-atmosphere modeling. Observed Kr V-VII line profiles in the UV spectrum of the white dwarf RE 0503-289 were simultaneously well reproduced with our newly calculated oscillator strengths.

Optical biosensors based on porous silicon were fabricated by metal assisted chemical etching. Thereby double layered porous silicon structures were obtained consisting of porous pillars with large pores on top of a porous silicon layer with smaller pores. These structures showed a similar sensing performance in comparison to electrochemically produced porous silicon interferometric sensors.
This article explores a recent performance of excerpts from T.S. Eliot’s Four Quartets (1935/36–1942) entitled Engaging Eliot: Four Quartets in Word, Color, and Sound as an example of live poetry. In this context, Eliot’s poem can be analysed as an auditory artefact that interacts strongly with other oral performances (welcome addresses and artists’ conversations), as well as with the musical performance of Christopher Theofanidis’s quintet “At the Still Point” at the end of the opening of Engaging Eliot. The event served as an introduction to a 13-day art exhibition and engaged in a re-evaluation of Eliot’s poem after 9/11: while its first part emphasises the connection between Eliot’s poem and Christian doctrine, its second part – especially the combination of poetry reading and musical performance – highlights the philosophical and spiritual dimensions of Four Quartets.
TripleA is a workshop series founded by linguists from the University of Tübingen and the University of Potsdam. Its aim is to provide a forum for semanticists doing fieldwork on understudied languages, and its focus is on languages from Africa, Asia, Australia and Oceania. The second TripleA workshop was held at the University of Potsdam, June 3-5, 2015.
Relatedness strongly influences social behaviors in a wide variety of species. For most species, the highest typical degree of relatedness is between full siblings with 50% shared genes. However, this is poorly understood in species with unusually high relatedness between individuals: clonal organisms. Although there has been some investigation into clonal invertebrates and yeast, nothing is known about kin selection in clonal vertebrates. We show that a clonal fish, the Amazon molly (Poecilia formosa), can distinguish between different clonal lineages, associating with genetically identical, sister clones, and use multiple sensory modalities. Also, they scale their aggressive behaviors according to the relatedness to other females: they are more aggressive to non-related clones. Our results demonstrate that even in species with very small genetic differences between individuals, kin recognition can be adaptive. Their discriminatory abilities and regulation of costly behaviors provides a powerful example of natural selection in species with limited genetic diversity.
The population structure of the highly mobile marine mammal, the harbor porpoise (Phocoena phocoena), in the Atlantic shelf waters follows a pattern of significant isolation-by-distance. The population structure of harbor porpoises from the Baltic Sea, which is connected with the North Sea through a series of basins separated by shallow underwater ridges, however, is more complex. Here, we investigated the population differentiation of harbor porpoises in European Seas with a special focus on the Baltic Sea and adjacent waters, using a population genomics approach. We used 2872 single nucleotide polymor-phisms (SNPs), derived from double digest restriction-site associated DNA sequencing (ddRAD-seq), as well as 13 microsatellite loci and mitochondrial haplotypes for the same set of individuals. Spatial principal components analysis (sPCA), and Bayesian clustering on a subset of SNPs suggest three main groupings at the level of all studied regions: the Black Sea, the North Atlantic, and the Baltic Sea. Furthermore, we observed a distinct separation of the North Sea harbor porpoises from the Baltic Sea populations, and identified splits between porpoise populations within the Baltic Sea. We observed a notable distinction between the Belt Sea and the Inner Baltic Sea sub-regions. Improved delineation of harbor porpoise population assignments for the Baltic based on genomic evidence is important for conservation management of this endangered cetacean in threatened habitats, particularly in the Baltic Sea proper. In addition, we show that SNPs outperform microsatellite markers and demonstrate the utility of RAD-tags from a relatively small, opportunistically sampled cetacean sample set for population diversity and divergence analysis.
The all-female Amazon molly (Poecilia formosa) originated from a single hybridization of two bisexual ancestors, Atlantic molly (Poecilia mexicana) and sailfin molly (Poecilia latipinna). As a gynogenetic species, the Amazon molly needs to copulate with a heterospecific male, but the genetic information of the sperm-donor does not contribute to the next generation, as the sperm only acts as the trigger for the diploid eggs’ embryogenesis. Here, we study the sequence evolution and gene expression of the duplicated genes coding for androgen receptors (ars) and other pathway-related genes, i.e., the estrogen receptors (ers) and cytochrome P450, family19, subfamily A, aromatase genes (cyp19as), in the Amazon molly, in comparison to its bisexual ancestors. Mollies possess–as most other teleost fish—two copies of the ar, er, and cyp19a genes, i.e., arα/arβ, erα/erβ1, and cyp19a1 (also referred as cyp19a1a)/cyp19a2 (also referred to as cyp19a1b), respectively. Non-synonymous single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) among the ancestral bisexual species were generally predicted not to alter protein function. Some derived substitutions in the P. mexicana and one in P. formosa are predicted to impact protein function. We also describe the gene expression pattern of the ars and pathway-related genes in various tissues (i.e., brain, gill, and ovary) and provide SNP markers for allele specific expression research. As a general tendency, the levels of gene expression were lowest in gill and highest in ovarian tissues, while expression levels in the brain were intermediate in most cases. Expression levels in P. formosa were conserved where expression did not differ between the two bisexual ancestors. In those cases where gene expression levels significantly differed between the bisexual species, P. formosa expression was always comparable to the higher expression level among the two ancestors. Interestingly, erβ1 was expressed neither in brain nor in gill in the analyzed three molly species, which implies a more important role of erα in the estradiol synthesis pathway in these tissues. Furthermore, our data suggest that interactions of steroid-signaling pathway genes differ across tissues, in particular the interactions of ars and cyp19as.
Hemidiaptomus diaptomid copepods are known to be excellent biological indicators for the highly biodiverse crustacean communities inhabiting Mediterranean temporary ponds (MTPs), an endangered inland water habitat whose conservation is considered a priority according to the "Habitat Directive" of the European Union. This study reports on the characterization of five polymorphic microsatellite loci in Hemidiaptomus gurneyi, to be used as markers for fine-scale studies on the population genetic structure and metapopulation dynamics of a typical and obligate MTP dweller. The five selected loci proved to be polymorphic in the species, with three to five polymorphic loci per studied population. Overall, mean heterozygosity scored for all loci and populations was lower than that reported for the few other diaptomid species for which microsatellite loci have been to date described; this is possibly due to the intrinsically fragmented and isolated peculiar habitat inhabited by the species. Furthermore, the presence of indels within the flanking regions of selected loci was scored. This study, albeit confirming the technical difficulties in finding proper microsatellite markers in copepods, provides for the first time a set of useful polymorphic microsatellite loci for a Hemidiaptomus species, thus allowing the realization of fine-scale phylogeographic and population genetics studies of this flagship crustacean taxon for MTPs.

Here, we study the sequence evolution and gene expression of the duplicated genes coding for androgen receptors (ars) and other pathway-related genes, i.e., the estrogen receptors (ers) and cytochrome P450, family19, subfamily A, aromatase genes (cyp19as), in the Amazon molly, in comparison to its bisexual ancestors. Mollies possess–as most other teleost fish—two copies of the ar, er, and cyp19a genes, i.e., arα/arβ, erα/erβ1, and cyp19a1 (also referred as cyp19a1a)/cyp19a2 (also referred to as cyp19a1b), respectively. Non-synonymous single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) among the ancestral bisexual species were generally predicted not to alter protein function. Some derived substitutions in the P. mexicana and one in P. formosa are predicted to impact protein function. We also describe the gene expression pattern of the ars and pathway-related genes in various tissues (i.e., brain, gill, and ovary) and provide SNP markers for allele specific expression research. As a general tendency, the levels of gene expression were lowest in gill and highest in ovarian tissues, while expression levels in the brain were intermediate in most cases. Expression levels in P. formosa were conserved where expression did not differ between the two bisexual ancestors. In those cases where gene expression levels significantly differed between the bisexual species, P. formosa expression was always comparable to the higher expression level among the two ancestors. Interestingly, erβ1 was expressed neither in brain nor in gill in the analyzed three molly species, which implies a more important role of erα in the estradiol synthesis pathway in these tissues. Furthermore, our data suggest that interactions of steroid-signaling pathway genes differ across tissues, in particular the interactions of ars and cyp19as.
Using data from the Berlin Speed Dating Study, we tested rival hypotheses concerning the effects of self-enhancement of attractiveness on dating outcomes. Three hundred eighty-two participants took part in one of the 17 speed-dating sessions. After each speed-dating interaction, participants indicated how interesting they found the respective person as a long-term and short-term partner. Using social relations analyses, we computed perceiver effects (being more or less choosy) and target effects (being rated as more or less interesting) of long-term and short-term partner ratings. Self-enhancement was operationalized as the discrepancy between self-rated attractiveness and four components of actual attractiveness (observer-rated facial and vocal attractiveness, height and body mass index). Results indicated that self-enhancers were less choosy with respect to their interest for short-term partners, which was especially true for men, but more choosy with respect to long-term partners. With regard to popularity as a mate, potential partners indicated that they found self-enhancers more interesting as short-term partners but not as long-term partners. As self-enhancement is a key component of narcissism, these results are consistent with findings that narcissists perceive many sexual affairs as an achievement, while preferring selected ‘trophy’ long-term partners, and narcissists have a charming appeal for short-term, but not lasting, social relationships.
Z,E-Diene sind ein häufig auftretendes Strukturmerkmal in Naturstoffen. Aus diesem Grund ist die einfache Darstellung dieser Struktureinheit von großen Interesse in der organischen Chemie.
Das erste Ziel der vorliegenden Arbeit war daher die Weiterentwicklung der Ringschlussmetathese-/ baseninduzierten Ringöffnungs-/ Veresterungssequenz (RBRV-Sequenz) zur Synthese von (2Z,4E)-Diencarbonsäureethylestern ausgehend von Butenoaten. Dazu wurde zunächst die RBRV-Sequenz optimiert. Diese aus drei Schritten bestehende Sequenz konnte in einem Eintopf-Verfahren angewendet werden. Die Ringschlussmetathese gelang mit einer Katalysatorbeladung von 1 mol% des GRUBBS-Katalysators der zweiten Generation in Dichlormethan. Für die baseninduzierte Ringöffnung des β,γ-ungesättigten δ Valerolactons wurde NaHMDS verwendet. Die Alkylierung der Carboxylatspezies gelang mit dem MEERWEIN-Reagenz. Die Anwendbarkeit der Sequenz wurde für verschiedene Substrate demonstriert.
Die Erweiterung der Methode auf α-substituierte Butenoate unterlag starken Einschränkungen. So konnte der Zugang für α Hydroxyderivate realisiert werden. Bei der Anwendung der RBRV-Sequenz auf die α-substituierten Butenoate wurde festgestellt, dass diese sich nur in moderaten Ausbeuten umsetzen ließen und zudem nicht selektiv zu den (2E,4E)-konfigurierten α-substituierten-Dienestern reagierten.
Der Einsatz von Eninen unter den Standardbedingungen der RBRV-Sequenz gelang nicht. Erst nach Modifizierung der Sequenz (höhere Katalysatorbeladung, Wechsel des Lösungsmittels) konnten die [3]Dendralen-Produkte in geringen Ausbeuten erhalten werden.
Im zweiten Teil der Arbeit wurde der Einsatz von (2Z,4E)-Diencarbonsäureethylestern in der Totalsynthese von Naturstoffen untersucht. Dazu wurden zunächst die Transformationsmöglichkeiten der Ester geprüft. Es konnte gezeigt werden, dass sich (2Z,4E)-Diencarbonsäureethylester insbesondere zur Synthese von (2Z,4E)-Aldehyden sowie zum Aufbau der (3Z,5E)-Dien-1-in-Struktur eignen.
Anhand dieser Ergebnisse wurde im Anschluss die RBRV-Sequenz in der Totalsynthese eingesetzt. Dazu wurde zunächst der (2Z,4E)-Dienester Microsphaerodiolin in seiner ersten Totalsynthese auf drei verschiedene Routen hergestellt. Im Anschluss wurden sechs verschiedene Polyacetylene mit einer (3Z,5E)-Dien-1-in-Einheit hergestellt. Schlüsselschritte in ihrer Synthese waren immer die RBRV-Sequenz zum Aufbau der Z,E-Dien-Einheit, die Transformation des Esters in ein terminales Alkin sowie die CADIOT-CHODKIEWICZ-Kupplung zum Aufbau unsymmetrischer Polyine. Alle sechs Polyacetylene wurden zum ersten Mal in einer Totalsynthese synthetisiert. Drei Polyacetylene wurden ausgehend von (S)-Butantriol enantiomerenrein dargestellt. Anhand ihrer Drehwerte konnte eine Revision der von YAO und Mitarbeitern vorgenommen Zuordnung der Absolutkonfiguration der Naturstoffe vorgenommen werden.
Der Bittergeschmack warnt den Organismus vor potentiell verdorbener oder giftiger Nahrung und ist somit ein wichtiger Kontrollmechanismus. Die initiale Detektion der zahlreich vorkommenden Bitterstoffe erfolgt bei der Maus durch 35 Bitterrezeptoren (Tas2rs), die sich im Zungengewebe befinden. Die Geschmacksinformation wird anschließend von der Zunge über das periphere (PNS) ins zentrale Nervensystem (ZNS) geleitet, wo deren Verarbeitung stattfindet. Die Verarbeitung der Geschmacksinformation konnte bislang nicht gänzlich aufgeklärt werden. Neue Studien deuten auf eine Expression von Tas2rs auch im PNS und ZNS entlang der Geschmacksbahn hin. Über Vorkommen und Aufgaben dieser Rezeptoren bzw. Rezeptorzellen im Nervensystem ist bislang wenig bekannt.
Im Rahmen dieser Arbeit wurde die Tas2r-Expression in verschiedenen Mausmodellen untersucht, Tas2r-exprimierende Zellen identifiziert und deren Funktionen bei der Übertragung der Geschmacksinformationen analysiert. Im Zuge der Expressionsanalysen mittels qRT-PCR konnte die Expression von 25 der 35 bekannten Bittergeschmacksrezeptoren im zentralen Nervensystem der Maus nachgewiesen werden. Die Expressionsmuster im PNS sowie im ZNS lassen darüber hinaus Vermutungen zu Funktionen in verschiedenen Bereichen des Nervensystems zu. Basierend auf den Ergebnissen der Expressionsanalysen war es möglich, stark exprimierte Tas2rs mittels In-situ-Hybridisierung in verschiedenen Zelltypen zu visualisieren. Des Weiteren konnten immunhistochemische Färbungen unter Verwendung eines genetisch modifizierten Mausmodells die Ergebnisse der Expressionsanalysen bestätigen. Sie zeigten eine Expression von Tas2rs, am Beispiel des Tas2r131-Rezeptors, in cholinergen, dopaminergen, GABAergen, noradrenergen und glycinerg-angesteuerten Projektionsneuronen sowie in Interneuronen. Die Ergebnisse der vorliegenden Arbeit zeigen daher erstmals das Vorkommen von Tas2rs in verschiedenen neuronalen Zelltypen in weiten Teilen des ZNS. Dies lässt den Schluss zu, dass Tas2r-exprimierende Zellen potentiell multiple Funktionen innehaben. Anhand von Verhaltensexperimenten in genetisch modifizierten Mäusen wurde die mögliche Funktion von Tas2r131-exprimierenden Neuronen (Tas2r131-Neurone) bei der Geschmackswahrnehmung untersucht. Die Ergebnisse weisen auf eine Beteiligung von Tas2r131-Neuronen an der Signalweiterleitung bzw. -verarbeitung der Geschmacksinformation für eine Auswahl von Bittersubstanzen hin. Die Analysen zeigen darüber hinaus, dass Tas2r131-Neuronen nicht an der Geschmackswahrnehmung anderer Bitterstoffe sowie Geschmacksstimuli anderer Qualitäten (süß, umami, sauer, salzig), beteiligt sind. Eine spezifische „Tas2r131-Bittergeschmacksbahn“, die mit anderen potentiellen „Bitterbahnen“ teils unabhängige, teils überlappende Signalwege bzw. Verarbeitungsbereiche besitzt, bildet eine mögliche zelluläre Grundlage zur Unterscheidung von Bitterstoffen. Die im Rahmen dieser Arbeit entstandene Hypothese einer potentiellen Diskriminierung von Bitterstoffen soll daher in weiterführenden Studien durch die Etablierung eines Verhaltenstest mit Mäusen geprüft werden.
Gerät eine GmbH in eine finanzielle Krise, zeigen sich die Nachteile der beschränkten Haftung: Der GmbH wird ein Bankkredit oftmals versagt. Nicht selten besteht die einzige Möglichkeit darin, der Gesellschaft Kapital durch Gesellschafterdarlehen zuzuführen. Fordern die Gesellschafter später ihre Darlehen zurück und befindet sich die Gesellschaft noch in der Krise, ist die Rückzahlung für den Geschäftsführer mit erheblichen zivilrechtlichen und strafrechtlichen Risiken verbunden. Der Autor beleuchtet in der Publikation zum einen die zivilrechtliche Haftungsproblematik, insbesondere in Bezug auf § 64 GmbHG. Das Hauptaugenmerk legt der Autor auf die strafrechtlichen Risiken und untersucht die Frage, unter welchen Voraussetzungen sich der Geschäftsführer bei der Rückzahlung von Gesellschafterdarlehen wegen Untreue gemäß § 266 StGB strafbar macht. Dabei wird unter anderem untersucht, ob § 64 GmbH als pflichtwidrigkeitsbegründende Norm im Rahmen des § 266 StGB herangezogen werden kann. Vertieft geht der Autor auch der Frage nach, ob die Strafbarkeit des Geschäftsführers wegen eines Einverständnisses der Gesellschafter entfallen kann. Alle untersuchenden Fragen werden dabei stets an dem Präzisionsgebot gemessen, das das Bundesverfassungsgericht im Hinblick auf die Verfassungsmäßigkeit des Untreuetatbestandes entwickelt hat.
The cytoskeleton is an essential component of living cells. It is composed of different types of protein filaments that form complex, dynamically rearranging, and interconnected networks. The cytoskeleton serves a multitude of cellular functions which further depend on the cell context. In animal cells, the cytoskeleton prominently shapes the cell's mechanical properties and movement. In plant cells, in contrast, the presence of a rigid cell wall as well as their larger sizes highlight the role of the cytoskeleton in long-distance intracellular transport. As it provides the basis for cell growth and biomass production, cytoskeletal transport in plant cells is of direct environmental and economical relevance. However, while knowledge about the molecular details of the cytoskeletal transport is growing rapidly, the organizational principles that shape these processes on a whole-cell level remain elusive.
This thesis is devoted to the following question: How does the complex architecture of the plant cytoskeleton relate to its transport functionality? The answer requires a systems level perspective of plant cytoskeletal structure and transport. To this end, I combined state-of-the-art confocal microscopy, quantitative digital image analysis, and mathematically powerful, intuitively accessible graph-theoretical approaches.
This thesis summarizes five of my publications that shed light on the plant cytoskeleton as a transportation network: (1) I developed network-based frameworks for accurate, automated quantification of cytoskeletal structures, applicable in, e.g., genetic or chemical screens; (2) I showed that the actin cytoskeleton displays properties of efficient transport networks, hinting at its biological design principles; (3) Using multi-objective optimization, I demonstrated that different plant cell types sustain cytoskeletal networks with cell-type specific and near-optimal organization; (4) By investigating actual transport of organelles through the cell, I showed that properties of the actin cytoskeleton are predictive of organelle flow and provided quantitative evidence for a coordination of transport at a cellular level; (5) I devised a robust, optimization-based method to identify individual cytoskeletal filaments from a given network representation, allowing the investigation of single filament properties in the network context. The developed methods were made publicly available as open-source software tools.
Altogether, my findings and proposed frameworks provide quantitative, system-level insights into intracellular transport in living cells. Despite my focus on the plant cytoskeleton, the established combination of experimental and theoretical approaches is readily applicable to different organisms. Despite the necessity of detailed molecular studies, only a complementary, systemic perspective, as presented here, enables both understanding of cytoskeletal function in its evolutionary context as well as its future technological control and utilization.
E-Learning-Anwendungen bieten Chancen für die gesetzlich vorgeschriebene Inklusion von Lernenden mit Beeinträchtigungen. Die gleichberechtigte Teilhabe von blinden Lernenden an Veranstaltungen in virtuellen Klassenzimmern ist jedoch durch den synchronen, multimedialen Charakter und den hohen Informationsumfang dieser Lösungen kaum möglich.
Die vorliegende Arbeit untersucht die Zugänglichkeit virtueller Klassenzimmer für blinde Nutzende, um eine möglichst gleichberechtigte Teilhabe an synchronen, kollaborativen Lernszenarien zu ermöglichen. Im Rahmen einer Produktanalyse werden dazu virtuelle Klassenzimmer auf ihre Zugänglichkeit und bestehende Barrieren untersucht und Richtlinien für die zugängliche Gestaltung von virtuellen Klassenzimmern definiert. Anschließend wird ein alternatives Benutzungskonzept zur Darstellung und Bedienung virtueller Klassenzimmer auf einem zweidimensionalen taktilen Braille-Display entwickelt, um eine möglichst gleichberechtigte Teilhabe blinder Lernender an synchronen Lehrveranstaltungen zu ermöglichen. Nach einer ersten Evaluation mit blinden Probanden erfolgt die prototypische Umsetzung des Benutzungskonzepts für ein Open-Source-Klassenzimmer. Die abschließende Evaluation der prototypischen Umsetzung zeigt die Verbesserung der Zugänglichkeit von virtuellen Klassenzimmern für blinde Lernende unter Verwendung eines taktilen Flächendisplays und bestätigt die Wirksamkeit der im Rahmen dieser Arbeit entwickelten Konzepte.
It is "scientific folklore" coming from physical heuristics that solutions to the heat equation on a Riemannian manifold can be represented by a path integral. However, the problem with such path integrals is that they are notoriously ill-defined. One way to make them rigorous (which is often applied in physics) is finite-dimensional approximation, or time-slicing approximation: Given a fine partition of the time interval into small subintervals, one restricts the integration domain to paths that are geodesic on each subinterval of the partition. These finite-dimensional integrals are well-defined, and the (infinite-dimensional) path integral then is defined as the limit of these (suitably normalized) integrals, as the mesh of the partition tends to zero.
In this thesis, we show that indeed, solutions to the heat equation on a general compact Riemannian manifold with boundary are given by such time-slicing path integrals. Here we consider the heat equation for general Laplace type operators, acting on sections of a vector bundle. We also obtain similar results for the heat kernel, although in this case, one has to restrict to metrics satisfying a certain smoothness condition at the boundary. One of the most important manipulations one would like to do with path integrals is taking their asymptotic expansions; in the case of the heat kernel, this is the short time asymptotic expansion. In order to use time-slicing approximation here, one needs the approximation to be uniform in the time parameter. We show that this is possible by giving strong error estimates.
Finally, we apply these results to obtain short time asymptotic expansions of the heat kernel also in degenerate cases (i.e. at the cut locus). Furthermore, our results allow to relate the asymptotic expansion of the heat kernel to a formal asymptotic expansion of the infinite-dimensional path integral, which gives relations between geometric quantities on the manifold and on the loop space. In particular, we show that the lowest order term in the asymptotic expansion of the heat kernel is essentially given by the Fredholm determinant of the Hessian of the energy functional. We also investigate how this relates to the zeta-regularized determinant of the Jacobi operator along minimizing geodesics.
Ende September 1910 erschütterten schwere Straßenkämpfe zwischen Bevölkerung und Polizei den Berliner Stadtteil Moabit. Die mehrtägigen Unruhen hatten unter anderem eine Vielzahl Verletzter auf beiden Seiten, zwei Tote, diplomatische Beschwerden und zwei Mammutprozesse vor Berliner Gerichten zur Folge.
Ausgehend von dem Gedanken Wilhelm Mommsens „nichts versetzt so leicht in die Atmosphäre einer Zeit als ihre Zeitungen und nichts zeigt so gut, was die Zeitgenossen beschäftigt und hauptsächlich interessiert hat,“ soll in dieser Arbeit der Versuch unternommen werden, den die Moabiter Unruhen begleitenden Diskurs in den Tageszeitungen nachzuzeichnen, um somit anhand der zeitnahen zeitgenössischen Rezeption dieser zugespitzten Ausnahmesituation Wesen und Charakter der öffentlichen Diskussion in der wilhelminischen Gesellschaft sichtbar zu machen.
In der vorliegenden Arbeit sollen zunächst kurz der Bezirk Moabit sowie seine Bewohner vorgestellt werden, ehe daran anknüpfend der Verlauf von Streik und Auseinandersetzungen überblicksartig vorgestellt werden. Daran anschließend soll ein Bild der zeitnahen Berichterstattung während der Entwicklung der Ereignisse in der deutschen Presselandschaft entworfen werden.
Um ein detailliertes Bild des die in dieser Arbeit vorgestellten Ereignisse begleitenden Diskurses zu erhalten, wurden für diese Arbeit die Ausgaben der nachstehenden deutschen Tageszeitung von Beginn des die Unruhen auslösenden Streiks am 19. September bis zum Ende der Prozesse im Februar 1911 systematisch durchgesehen. Die detaillierte Diskussion der Berichterstattung beschränkt sich in dieser Arbeit jedoch auf den Zeitraum von Beginn des Streiks bis zu dessen Ende im Oktober 1910.
Seitens der liberal ausgerichteten Blätter wurden das liberal-bürgerliche Berliner Tageblatt sowie die Frankfurter Zeitung gesichtet. Als Vertreter der katholischen Zentrumspartei wurde die Germania durchgesehen. Als führendes Organ der Sozialdemokratie wurde der Vorwärts hinzugezogen. Von der konservativen Presse wurden der Berliner Lokal‑Anzeiger und die protestantische Neue Preußische Zeitung begutachtet.
In this thesis, the two prototype catalysts Fe(CO)₅ and Cr(CO)₆ are investigated with time-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy at a high harmonic setup. In both of these metal carbonyls, a UV photon can induce the dissociation of one or more ligands of the complex. The mechanism of the dissociation has been debated over the last decades. The electronic dynamics of the first dissociation occur on the femtosecond timescale.
For the experiment, an existing high harmonic setup was moved to a new location, was extended, and characterized. The modified setup can induce dynamics in gas phase samples with photon energies of 1.55eV, 3.10eV, and 4.65eV. The valence electronic structure of the samples can be probed with photon energies between 20eV and 40eV. The temporal resolution is 111fs to 262fs, depending on the combination of the two photon energies.
The electronically excited intermediates of the two complexes, as well as of the reaction product Fe(CO)₄, could be observed with photoelectron spectroscopy in the gas phase for the first time. However, photoelectron spectroscopy gives access only to the final ionic states. Corresponding calculations to simulate these spectra are still in development. The peak energies and their evolution in time with respect to the initiation pump pulse have been determined, these peaks have been assigned based on literature data. The spectra of the two complexes show clear differences. The dynamics have been interpreted with the assumption that the motion of peaks in the spectra relates to the movement of the wave packet in the multidimensional energy landscape. The results largely confirm existing models for the reaction pathways. In both metal carbonyls, this pathway involves a direct excitation of the wave packet to a metal-to-ligand charge transfer state and the subsequent crossing to a dissociative ligand field state. The coupling of the electronic dynamics to the nuclear dynamics could explain the slower dissociation in Fe(CO)₅ as compared to Cr(CO)₆.
Die sozialwissenschaftliche Dissertation nimmt den derzeitigen DIY-Trend, konkret den Handarbeitstrend, in den Fokus. Welche individuellen Gründe und gesellschaftliche Entwicklungen bewegen die Menschen, wieder gemeinsam und/oder allein zu nähen und zu stricken, alte Dinge aufzuwerten oder anders zu nutzen bzw. einfach kreativ zu sein? Ist es der Wunsch nach dem Besonderen, die Abgrenzung von Anderen, der wiedererwachte Sinn für Gemeinschaft oder die Freude an der praktischen Arbeit? Und nicht zuletzt, gibt es eine Verbindung von Handarbeit zu einer nachhaltig orientierten Lebensweise? Ist Handarbeit eine soziale Innovation?
Die Untersuchung basiert auf dem bereichsspezifischen Lebensstilkonzept, welches verschiedene gesellschaftliche Ebenen, die individuelle, gemeinschaftliche und gesellschaftliche Ebene, einschließt. Nach einer historischen Betrachtung der Handarbeit und einer ebenen-spezifischen Literaturschau einschließlich der Auswertung von Experteninterviews zum Thema Handarbeit erfolgt im empirischen Teil die Inhaltsanalyse von zwölf leitfadengestützten problemzentrierten Interviews mit Personen, die in ihrer Freizeit handarbeiten.
Die Untersuchung bestätigt die forschungsleitenden Annahmen. Es wird deutlich, dass bei der Herausbildung der Affinität zur Handarbeit alle drei gesellschaftlichen Ebenen relevant sind: Individuelle Vorerfahrungen und Motivationen spielen ebenso eine Rolle wie die Gemeinschaft und Vernetzung mit Anderen.Gesellschaftlich betrachtet zeigt die Arbeit, dass die historischen Brüche in der Bedeutung der Handarbeit für deren heutigen Stellenwert relevant sind. Handarbeit - und im weiteren Sinne DIY - wird als soziale Innovation wahrgenommen und kann bewusstseinsbildend hinsichtlich nachhaltig orientierter Lebensweisen wirken.
Aus einer Vergleichsstudie mit starken und schwachen Problemlösern konnten Erkenntnisse über die effizienten Herangehensweisen von Hochleistern an Informatikprobleme gewonnen werden. Diese Erkenntnisse wurden in einem Lehrvideo zum informatischen Problemlösen didaktisch aufgearbeitet, sodass Lernenden der Einsatz von Baumstrukturen und Rekursion im konkreten Kontext gezeigt werden kann. Nun wurde die tatsächliche Lernwirksamkeit des Videos sowie die Definition der Zielgruppe in einer Vergleichsstudie mit 66 Studienanfängern überprüft.
Informatik-Studierende haben in der Mehrzahl Schwierigkeiten, einen Einstieg in die Theoretische
Informatik zu finden und die Leistungsanforderungen in den
Endklausuren der zugehörigen Lehrveranstaltungen zu erfüllen. Wir argumentieren, dass dieser Symptomatik mangelnde Kompetenzen im Umgang mit abstrakten und stark formalisierten Themeninhalten zugrunde liegen und schlagen vor, einen Beweisassistenten als interaktives Lernwerkzeug in der Eingangslehre der Theoretischen Informatik zu nutzen, um entsprechende Kompetenzen zu stärken.
The main results of this thesis are formulated in a class of surfaces (varifolds) generalizing closed and connected smooth submanifolds of Euclidean space which allows singularities. Given an indecomposable varifold with dimension at least two in some Euclidean space such that the first variation is locally bounded, the total variation is absolutely continuous with respect to the weight measure, the density of the weight measure is at least one outside a set of weight measure zero and the generalized mean curvature is locally summable to a natural power (dimension of the varifold minus one) with respect to the weight measure. The thesis presents an improved estimate of the set where the lower density is small in terms of the one dimensional Hausdorff measure. Moreover, if the support of the weight measure is compact, then the intrinsic diameter with respect to the support of the weight measure is estimated in terms of the generalized mean curvature. This estimate is in analogy to the diameter control for closed connected manifolds smoothly immersed in some Euclidean space of Peter Topping. Previously, it was not known whether the hypothesis in this thesis implies that two points in the support of the weight measure have finite geodesic distance.
Für alle Organismen ist die Aufrechterhaltung ihres energetischen Gleichgewichts unter fluktuierenden Umweltbedingungen lebensnotwendig. In Eukaryoten steuern evolutionär konservierte Proteinkinasen, die in Pflanzen als SNF1-RELATED PROTEIN KINASE1 (SnRK1) bezeichnet werden, die Adaption an Stresssignale aus der Umwelt und an die Limitierung von Nährstoffen und zellulärer Energie. Die Aktivierung von SnRK1 bedingt eine umfangreiche transkriptionelle Umprogrammierung, die allgemein zu einer Repression energiekonsumierender Prozesse wie beispielsweise Zellteilung und Proteinbiosynthese und zu einer Induktion energieerzeugender, katabolischer Stoffwechselwege führt. Wie unterschiedliche Signale zu einer generellen sowie teilweise gewebe- und stressspezifischen SnRK1-vermittelten Antwort führen ist bisher noch nicht ausreichend geklärt, auch weil bislang nur wenige Komponenten der SnRK1-Signaltransduktion identifiziert wurden. In dieser Arbeit konnte ein Protein-Protein-Interaktionsnetzwerk um die SnRK1αUntereinheiten aus Arabidopsis AKIN10/AKIN11 etabliert werden. Dadurch wurden zunächst Mitglieder der pflanzenspezifischen DUF581-Proteinfamilie als Interaktionspartner der SnRK1α-Untereinheiten identifiziert. Diese Proteine sind über ihre konservierte DUF581Domäne, in der ein Zinkfinger-Motiv lokalisiert ist, fähig mit AKIN10/AKIN11 zu interagieren. In planta Ko-Expressionsanalysen zeigten, dass die DUF581-Proteine eine Verschiebung der nucleo-cytoplasmatischen Lokalisierung von AKIN10 hin zu einer nahezu ausschließlichen zellkernspezifischen Lokalisierung begünstigen sowie die Ko-Lokalisierung von AKIN10 und DUF581-Proteinen im Nucleus. In Bimolekularen Fluoreszenzkomplementations-Analysen konnte die zellkernspezifische Interaktion von DUF581-Proteinen mit SnRK1α-Untereinheiten in planta bestätigt werden. Außerhalb der DUF581-Domäne weisen die Proteine einander keine große Sequenzähnlichkeit auf. Aufgrund ihrer Fähigkeit mit SnRK1 zu interagieren, dem Fehlen von SnRK1Phosphorylierungsmotiven sowie ihrer untereinander sehr variabler gewebs-, entwicklungs- und stimulusspezifischer Expression wurde für DUF581-Proteine eine Funktion als Adaptoren postuliert, die unter bestimmten physiologischen Bedingungen spezifische Substratproteine in den SnRK1-Komplex rekrutieren. Auf diese Weise könnten DUF581Proteine die Interaktion von SnRK1 mit deren Zielproteinen modifizieren und eine Feinjustierung der SnRK1-Signalweiterleitung ermöglichen. Durch weiterführende Interaktionsstudien konnten DUF581-interagierende Proteine darunter Transkriptionsfaktoren, Proteinkinasen sowie regulatorische Proteine gefunden werden, die teilweise ebenfalls Wechselwirkungen mit SnRK1α-Untereinheiten aufzeigten. Im Rahmen dieser Arbeit wurde eines dieser Proteine für das eine Beteiligung an der SnRK1Signalweiterleitung als Transkriptionsregulator vermutet wurde näher charakterisiert. STKR1 (STOREKEEPER RELATED 1), ein spezifischer Interaktionspartner von DUF581-18, gehört zu einer pflanzenspezifischen Leucin-Zipper-Transkriptionsfaktorfamilie und interagiert in Hefe sowie in planta mit SnRK1. Die zellkernspezifische Interaktion von STKR1 und AKIN10 in Pflanzen unterstützt die Vermutung der kooperativen Regulation von Zielgenen. Weiterhin stabilisierte die Anwesenheit von AKIN10 die Proteingehalte von STKR1, das wahrscheinlich über das 26S Proteasom abgebaut wird. Da es sich bei STKR1 um ein Phosphoprotein mit SnRK1-Phosphorylierungsmotiv handelt, stellt es sehr wahrscheinlich ein SnRK1-Substrat dar. Allerdings konnte eine SnRK1-vermittelte Phosphorylierung von STKR1 in dieser Arbeit nicht gezeigt werden. Der Verlust von einer Phosphorylierungsstelle beeinflusste die Homo- und Heterodimerisierungsfähigkeit von STKR1 in Hefeinteraktionsstudien, wodurch eine erhöhte Spezifität der Zielgenregulation ermöglicht werden könnte. Außerdem wurden Arabidopsis-Pflanzen mit einer veränderten STKR1-Expression phänotypisch, physiologisch und molekularbiologisch charakterisiert. Während der Verlust der STKR1-Expression zu Pflanzen führte, die sich kaum von Wildtyp-Pflanzen unterschieden, bedingte die konstitutive Überexpression von STKR1 ein stark vermindertes Pflanzenwachstum sowie Entwicklungsverzögerungen hinsichtlich der Blühinduktion und Seneszenz ähnlich wie sie auch bei SnRK1α-Überexpression beschrieben wurden. Pflanzen dieser Linien waren nicht in der Lage Anthocyane zu akkumulieren und enthielten geringere Gehalte an Chlorophyll und Carotinoiden. Neben einem erhöhten nächtlichen Stärkeumsatz waren die Pflanzen durch geringere Saccharosegehalte im Vergleich zum Wildtyp gekennzeichnet. Eine Transkriptomanalyse ergab, dass in den STKR1-überexprimierenden Pflanzen unter Energiemangelbedingungen, hervorgerufen durch eine verlängerte Dunkelphase, eine größere Anzahl an Genen im Vergleich zum Wildtyp differentiell reguliert war als während der Lichtphase. Dies spricht für eine Beteiligung von STKR1 an Prozessen, die während der verlängerten Dunkelphase aktiv sind. Ein solcher ist beispielsweise die SnRK1-Signaltransduktion, die unter energetischem Stress aktiviert wird. Die STKR1Überexpression führte zudem zu einer verstärkten transkriptionellen Induktion von Abwehrassoziierten Genen sowie NAC- und WRKY-Transkriptionsfaktoren nach verlängerter Dunkelphase. Die Transkriptomdaten deuteten auf eine stimulusunabhängige Induktion von Abwehrprozessen hin und konnten eine Erklärung für die phänotypischen und physiologischen Auffälligkeiten der STKR1-Überexprimierer liefern.
We consider the Navier-Stokes equations in the layer R^n x [0,T] over R^n with finite T > 0. Using the standard fundamental solutions of the Laplace operator and the heat operator, we reduce the Navier-Stokes equations to a nonlinear Fredholm equation of the form (I+K) u = f, where K is a compact continuous operator in anisotropic normed Hölder spaces weighted at the point at infinity with respect to the space variables. Actually, the weight function is included to provide a finite energy estimate for solutions to the Navier-Stokes equations for all t in [0,T]. On using the particular properties of the de Rham complex we conclude that the Fréchet derivative (I+K)' is continuously invertible at each point of the Banach space under consideration and the map I+K is open and injective in the space. In this way the Navier-Stokes equations prove to induce an open one-to-one mapping in the scale of Hölder spaces.

Die Amerikanerin Rachel Dolezal war bis ins Jahr 2015 als Afroamerikanerin bekannt. Als Aktivistin der National Association for the Advancement of Colored People setzte sie sich für die Rechte der afroamerikanischen Bevölkerung ein, lebte in einem schwarzen Umfeld und lehrte an einer Universität Afroamerikanische Studien. „I identify as black“ antwortete sie auf die Frage eines amerikanischen Fernsehmoderators, ob sie Afroamerikanerin sei. Ihre Kollegen und ihr näheres Umfeld identifizierten sie ebenfalls als solche. Erst, als regionale Journalisten auf sie aufmerksam wurden und ihre Eltern sich zu Wort meldeten, wurde deutlich, dass Dolezal eigentlich eine weiße Frau ist. Dolezals Eltern bestätigten dies, indem sie Kindheitsfotos einer hellhäutigen, blonden Rachel veröffentlichten. Dolezals Verhalten entfachte daraufhin eine rege mediale Diskussion über ihre Person im Kontext von Ethnizität und »Rasse«.
Die Verfasserin greift Dolezals Fall exemplarisch auf, um der Frage nachzugehen, ob ein Doing Race nach Belieben möglich ist. Darf sich Dolezal als schwarz identifizieren, obwohl sie keine afrikanischen Vorfahren hat? Welche gesellschaftliche Wissensvorräte schränken diese Wahl ein und welche Konsequenzen ergeben sich daraus? Anhand einer Diskursanalyse amerikanischer Zeitungsartikel geht die Verfasserin diesen Fragen nach. Hierbei werden »Rasse« und Ethnizität als soziale Konstruktionen, basierend auf dem Konzept von Stephen Cornell und Douglas Hartmann, betrachtet.

Proteins are amphiphilic and adsorb at liquid interfaces. Therefore, they can be efficient stabilizers of foams and emulsions. β-lactoglobulin (BLG) is one of the most widely studied proteins due to its major industrial applications, in particular in food technology.
In the present work, the influence of different bulk concentration, solution pH and ionic strength on the dynamic and equilibrium pressures of BLG adsorbed layers at the solution/tetradecane (W/TD) interface has been investigated. Dynamic interfacial pressure (Π) and interfacial dilational elastic modulus (E’) of BLG solutions for various concentrations at three different pH values of 3, 5 and 7 at a fixed ionic strength of 10 mM and for a selected fixed concentration at three different ionic strengths of 1 mM, 10 mM and 100 mM are measured by Profile Analysis Tensiometer PAT-1 (SINTERFACE Technologies, Germany). A quantitative data analysis requires additional consideration of depletion due to BLG adsorption at the interface at low protein bulk concentrations. This fact makes experiments more efficient when oil drops are studied in the aqueous protein solutions rather than solution drops formed in oil. On the basis of obtained experimental data, concentration dependencies and the effect of solution pH on the protein surface activity was qualitatively analysed. In the presence of 10 mM buffer, we observed that generally the adsorbed amount is increasing with increasing BLG bulk concentration for all three pH values. The adsorption kinetics at pH 5 result in the highest Π values at any time of adsorption while it exhibits a less active behaviour at pH 3.
Since the experimental data have not been in a good agreement with the classical diffusion controlled model due to the conformational changes which occur when the protein molecules get in contact with the hydrophobic oil phase in order to adapt to the interfacial environment, a new theoretical model is proposed here. The adsorption kinetics data were analysed with the newly proposed model, which is the classical diffusion model but modified by assuming an additional change in the surface activity of BLG molecules when adsorbing at the interface. This effect can be expressed through the adsorption activity constant in the corresponding equation of state. The dilational visco-elasticity of the BLG adsorbed interfacial layers is determined from measured dynamic interfacial tensions during sinusoidal drop area variations. The interfacial tension responses to these harmonic drop oscillations are interpreted with the same thermodynamic model which is used for the corresponding adsorption isotherm.
At a selected BLG concentration of 2×10-6 mol/l, the influence of the ionic strength using different buffer concentration of 1, 10 and 100 mM on the interfacial pressure was studied. It is affected weakly at pH 5, whereas it has a strong impact by increasing buffer concentration at pH 3 and 7. In conclusion, the structure formation of BLG adsorbed layer in the early stage of adsorption at the W/TD interface is similar to those of the solution/air (W/A) surface. However, the equation of state at the W/TD interface provides an adsorption activity constant which is almost two orders of magnitude higher than that for the solution/air surface.
At the end of this work, a new experimental tool called Drop and Bubble Micro Manipulator DBMM (SINTERFACE Technologies, Germany) has been introduced to study the stability of protein covered bubbles against coalescence. Among the available protocols the lifetime between the moment of contact and coalescence of two contacting bubble is determined for different BLG concentrations. The adsorbed amount of BLG is determined as a function of time and concentration and correlates with the observed coalescence behaviour of the contacting bubbles.

Intonation units have been notoriously difficult to identify in natural talk. Problems include fuzzy boundaries, lack of exhaustivity, and the potential circularity involved when studying their interface with other language-organizational dimensions. This volume advocates a way to resolve such problems: the cesura approach. Cesuras, or breaks in the flow of talk, are created by discontinuities in the prosodic-phonetic parameters of speech that cluster to various extents at certain points in time. Using conversation-analytic and interactional-linguistic methodology, the volume identifies the parameters creating cesuras in talk-in-interaction and proposes ways to notate them depending on the researcher s goal. It also offers a way to study the role of cesuras at the prosody-syntax interface non-circularly, which leads to new insights concerning language variation and change. The volume will thus be of major import to anyone working with natural spoken language, its chunks, its various dimensions, and its variation and change."
The current study investigates to what extent masked morphological priming is modulated by language-particular properties, specifically by its writing system. We present results from two masked priming experiments investigating the processing of complex Japanese words written in less common (moraic) scripts. In Experiment 1, participants performed lexical decisions on target verbs; these were preceded by primes which were either (i) a past-tense form of the same verb, (ii) a stem-related form with the epenthetic vowel -i, (iii) a semantically-related form, and (iv) a phonologically-related form. Significant priming effects were obtained for prime types (i), (ii), and (iii), but not for (iv). This pattern of results differs from previous findings on languages with alphabetic scripts, which found reliable masked priming effects for morphologically related prime/target pairs of type (i), but not for non-affixal and semantically-related primes of types (ii), and (iii). In Experiment 2, we measured priming effects for prime/target pairs which are neither morphologically, semantically, phonologically nor - as presented in their moraic scripts—orthographically related, but which—in their commonly written form—share the same kanji, which are logograms adopted from Chinese. The results showed a significant priming effect, with faster lexical-decision times for kanji-related prime/target pairs relative to unrelated ones. We conclude that affix-stripping is insufficient to account for masked morphological priming effects across languages, but that language-particular properties (in the case of Japanese, the writing system) affect the processing of (morphologically) complex words.

This volume is a novel approach to the corpus-based variationist sociolinguistic study of contemporary urban western Irish English. Based on qualitative data as well as on linguistic features extracted from the Corpus of Galway City Spoken English, this study approaches the major sociolinguistic characteristics of (th) and (dh) variability in Galway City English. It demonstrates the diverse local patterns of variability and change in the phonetic realisation of the dental fricatives and establishes a considerable degree of divergence from traditional accounts on Irish English. This volume suggests that the linguistic stratification of variants of (th) and (dh) in Galway correlates both with the social stratification of the city itself and with the stratification of speakers by social status, sex/gender and age group.
Since spring 2014 the relations between the EU and Russia are stuck in an Ice Age. From a Western point of view, especially the annexation of Crimea by Russia and the intervention in the conflict in Ukraine are responsible. The EU has frozen their relations to Russia and applied sanctions against it. Russia reacted in the same way. Can this vicious circle be broken without betraying the values of the EU? This book presents the analysis and ideas of social scientists from Germany, Poland and Russia. The reasons for this crisis are seen quite differently but all try to find a way out of the current confrontation.
In this thesis sentence processing was investigated using a psychophysiological measure known as pupillometry as well as Event-Related Potentials (ERP). The scope of the the- sis was broad, investigating the processing of several different movement constructions with native speakers of English and second language learners of English, as well as word order and case marking in German speaking adults and children. Pupillometry and ERP allowed us to test competing linguistic theories and use novel methodologies to investigate the processing of word order. In doing so we also aimed to establish pupillometry as an effective way to investigate the processing of word order thus broadening the methodological spectrum.
Metal-containing ionic liquids (ILs) are of interest for a variety of technical applications, e.g., particle synthesis and materials with magnetic or thermochromic properties. In this paper we report the synthesis of, and two structures for, some new tetrabromidocuprates(II) with several “onium” cations in comparison to the results of electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopic analyses. The sterically demanding cations were used to separate the paramagnetic Cu(II) ions for EPR measurements. The EPR hyperfine structure in the spectra of these new compounds is not resolved, due to the line broadening resulting from magnetic exchange between the still-incomplete separated paramagnetic Cu(II) centres. For the majority of compounds, the principal g values (g|| and gK) of the tensors could be determined and information on the structural changes in the [CuBr4]2- anions can be obtained. The complexes have high potential, e.g., as ionic liquids, as precursors for the synthesis of copper bromide particles, as catalytically active or paramagnetic ionic liquids.

Species can adjust their traits in response to selection which may strongly influence species coexistence. Nevertheless, current theory mainly assumes distinct and time-invariant trait values. We examined the combined effects of the range and the speed of trait adaptation on species coexistence using an innovative multispecies predator–prey model. It allows for temporal trait changes of all predator and prey species and thus simultaneous coadaptation within and among trophic levels. We show that very small or slow trait adaptation did not facilitate coexistence because the stabilizing niche differences were not sufficient to offset the fitness differences. In contrast, sufficiently large and fast trait adaptation jointly promoted stable or neutrally stable species coexistence. Continuous trait adjustments in response to selection enabled a temporally variable convergence and divergence of species traits; that is, species became temporally more similar (neutral theory) or dissimilar (niche theory) depending on the selection pressure, resulting over time in a balance between niche differences stabilizing coexistence and fitness differences promoting competitive exclusion. Furthermore, coadaptation allowed prey and predator species to cluster into different functional groups. This equalized the fitness of similar species while maintaining sufficient niche differences among functionally different species delaying or preventing competitive exclusion. In contrast to pre-
vious studies, the emergent feedback between biomass and trait dynamics enabled supersaturated coexistence for a broad range of potential trait adaptation and parameters. We conclude that accounting for trait adaptation may explain stable and supersaturated species coexistence for a broad range of environmental conditions in natural systems when the absence of such adaptive changes would preclude it. Small trait changes, coincident with those that may occur within many natural populations, greatly enlarged the number of coexisting species.

An keinem anderen Ort wird die besondere Bedeutung der Vereinigten Staaten von Amerika für Deutschland so deutlich wie in Berlin. In rund 80 Einträgen versammelt der Band eine Vielzahl US-amerikanischer Persönlichkeiten und stellt Orte vor, an denen sie in Berlin gelebt und gewirkt haben oder noch wirken. Die Berliner Erlebnisse von Diplomaten, Intellektuellen, Wissenschaftlern, Sportlern oder berühmten Künstlerinnen aller Sparten machen die Geschichte der deutsch-amerikanischen Beziehungen von den Anfängen 1776 bis heute anschaulich und lebendig. Ausklappbare Karten, Infokästen, ein farbiges Orientierungssystem und zahlreiche historische sowie aktuelle Fotos eröffnen die Möglichkeit, den Spuren von Mildred Harnack, Martin Luther King, Angela Davis, Iggy Pop, Georg Bush, Daniel Liebeskind, Jonathan Franzen und vielen anderen in der deutschen Hauptstadt zu folgen.
Denise Klinge untersucht anhand von 25 narrativen Interviews, die mittels der qualitativen Inhaltsanalyse und der dokumentarischen Methode ausgewertet wurden, wie bei der Sekundarschulwahlentscheidung der Eltern für ihre Kinder habituelles und rationales Wählen nach Wert-Erwartungstheorien zusammenhängen. Die Autorin konzentriert sich damit auf die elterliche Übergangsentscheidung als eine Einflussgröße sozialer Bildungsungleichheit. Mit der empirischen Integration beider Theoriestränge (Habitustheorie und Wert-Erwartungstheorien), zeigt Denise Klinge zum einen mögliche Erweiterungen der Mechanismen primärer und sekundärer Herkunftseffekte und Komponenten der Wert-Erwartungstheorien auf. Zum anderen konnten unterschiedliche habituelle Entscheidungstypen rekonstruiert werden, welche tiefere Einblicke in das Entscheidungsverhalten geben.
Das Theater ist seit seiner Erfindung durch die Griechen mit dem Politischen und insbesondere mit der Staatsform der Demokratie verbunden. Entsprechend kann das Theater als außerschulischer politischer Lernort zum Besuch mit Schülerinnen und Schülern dienen. Ziel der vorliegenden Publikation ist es, Vorschläge zur unterrichtlichen Bearbeitung von Theaterstücken zu präsentieren, zur Auseinandersetzung mit den politischen Gehalten von theatralen Narrationen in der politischen Bildung wie im fächerübergreifenden Unterricht anzuregen und zum Besuch von Theateraufführungen im Rahmen der politischen Bildung zu ermutigen.

We prove statistical rates of convergence for kernel-based least squares regression from i.i.d. data using a conjugate gradient algorithm, where regularization against overfitting is obtained by early stopping. This method is related to Kernel Partial Least Squares, a regression method that combines supervised dimensionality reduction with least squares projection. Following the setting introduced in earlier related literature, we study so-called "fast convergence rates" depending on the regularity of the target regression function (measured by a source condition in terms of the kernel integral operator) and on the effective dimensionality of the data mapped into the kernel space. We obtain upper bounds, essentially matching known minimax lower bounds, for the L^2 (prediction) norm as well as for the stronger Hilbert norm, if the true
regression function belongs to the reproducing kernel Hilbert space. If the latter assumption is not fulfilled, we obtain similar convergence rates for appropriate norms, provided additional unlabeled data are available.

The relationship between climate and forest productivity is an intensively studied subject in forest science. This Thesis is embedded within the general framework of future forest growth under climate change and its implications for the ongoing forest conversion. My objective is to investigate the future forest productivity at different spatial scales (from a single specific forest stand to aggregated information across Germany) with focus on oak-pine forests in the federal state of Brandenburg. The overarching question is: how are the oak-pine forests affected by climate change described by a variety of climate scenarios. I answer this question by using a model based analysis of tree growth processes and responses to different climate scenarios with emphasis on drought events. In addition, a method is developed which considers climate change uncertainty of forest management planning.
As a first 'screening' of climate change impacts on forest productivity, I calculated the change in net primary production on the base of a large set of climate scenarios for different tree species and the total area of Germany. Temperature increases up to 3 K lead to positive effects on the net primary production of all selected tree species. But, in water-limited regions this positive net primary production trend is dependent on the length of drought periods which results in a larger uncertainty regarding future forest productivity. One of the regions with the highest uncertainty of net primary production development is the federal state of Brandenburg.
To enhance the understanding and ability of model based analysis of tree growth sensitivity to drought stress two water uptake approaches in pure pine and mixed oak-pine stands are contrasted. The first water uptake approach consists of an empirical function for root water uptake. The second approach is more mechanistic and calculates the differences of soil water potential along a soil-plant-atmosphere continuum. I assumed the total root resistance to vary at low, medium and high total root resistance levels. For validation purposes three data sets on different tree growth relevant time scales are used. Results show that, except the mechanistic water uptake approach with high total root resistance, all transpiration outputs exceeded observed values. On the other hand high transpiration led to a better match of observed soil water content. The strongest correlation between simulated and observed annual tree ring width occurred with the mechanistic water uptake approach and high total root resistance. The findings highlight the importance of severe drought as a main reason for small diameter increment, best supported by the mechanistic water uptake approach with high root resistance. However, if all aspects of the data sets are considered no approach can be judged superior to the other. I conclude that the uncertainty of future productivity of water-limited forest ecosystems under changing environmental conditions is linked to simulated root water uptake.
Finally my study aimed at the impacts of climate change combined with management scenarios on an oak-pine forest to evaluate growth, biomass and the amount of harvested timber. The pine and the oak trees are 104 and 9 years old respectively. Three different management scenarios with different thinning intensities and different climate scenarios are used to simulate the performance of management strategies which explicitly account for the risks associated with achieving three predefined objectives (maximum carbon storage, maximum harvested timber, intermediate). I found out that in most cases there is no general management strategy which fits best to different objectives. The analysis of variance in the growth related model outputs showed an increase of climate uncertainty with increasing climate warming. Interestingly, the increase of climate-induced uncertainty is much higher from 2 to 3 K than from 0 to 2 K.

Das frühe 20. Jahrhundert brachte in Europa eine politische Ideologie hervor, die sich rasch auf dem Kontinent ausbreitete und ihn nachhaltig prägte: den Faschismus. In den Fokus der Geschichtswissenschaft, aber auch der Medien und der Unterhaltungsindustrie rückten dabei vor allem der italienische Faschismus und der deutsche Nationalsozialismus. Doch auch in anderen europäischen Staaten formierten sich in der Zwischenkriegszeit faschistische Bewegungen, die in einigen Fällen mehr, in anderen Fällen weniger Erfolg hatten. Die vorliegende Arbeit beschäftigt sich mit dem Phänomen Faschismus in einem dieser Staaten, der oft als Vorreiter der modernen Demokratie angesehen wird: Großbritannien.
Den Untersuchungen liegt die zentrale Frage zugrunde, warum der britische Faschismus in den turbulenten Jahren zwischen den beiden Weltkriegen nicht denselben Erfolg wie in Deutschland oder Italien erringen und zu einer bestimmenden politischen Kraft aufsteigen konnte. Zur Klärung dieser Frage werden zwei Aspekte betrachtet. Zum einen untersucht die Arbeit eine Auswahl an faschistischen Bewegungen, die sich in dieser Zeit gebildet hatten und politisch aktiv wurden. Die persönlichen Einstellungen, politischen Ambitionen und gegenseitigen Differenzen der jeweiligen Führungsfiguren spielen dabei ebenso eine Rolle wie das politische Programm und die Erfolgsgeschichte ihrer Bewegungen. Der zweite Teil fokussiert die britische Gesellschaft und beleuchtet die Rolle der Bevölkerung sowie die politischen und soziokulturellen Umstände in Großbritannien.
Mithilfe dieser personenbezogenen sowie politik- und gesellschaftszentrierten Analyse sollen die Gründe für den Misserfolg des britischen Faschismus in der Zwischenkriegszeit ermittelt werden. Neben einschlägiger Sekundärliteratur stützt sich die Arbeit auch auf ausgewähltes Quellenmaterial. Zeitgenössische Zeitungsartikel sowie die von den zu untersuchenden Personen verfassten Werke sollen einen detaillierteren Einblick in die politischen Absichten und persönlichen Intentionen der Bewegungen und ihrer Protagonisten liefern.

Recently, due to an increasing demand on functionality and flexibility, beforehand isolated systems have become interconnected to gain powerful adaptive Systems of Systems (SoS) solutions with an overall robust, flexible and emergent behavior. The adaptive SoS comprises a variety of different system types ranging from small embedded to adaptive cyber-physical systems. On the one hand, each system is independent, follows a local strategy and optimizes its behavior to reach its goals. On the other hand, systems must cooperate with each other to enrich the overall functionality to jointly perform on the SoS level reaching global goals, which cannot be satisfied by one system alone. Due to difficulties of local and global behavior optimizations conflicts may arise between systems that have to be solved by the adaptive SoS.
This thesis proposes a modeling language that facilitates the description of an adaptive SoS by considering the adaptation capabilities in form of feedback loops as first class entities. Moreover, this thesis adopts the Models@runtime approach to integrate the available knowledge in the systems as runtime models into the modeled adaptation logic. Furthermore, the modeling language focuses on the description of system interactions within the adaptive SoS to reason about individual system functionality and how it emerges via collaborations to an overall joint SoS behavior. Therefore, the modeling language approach enables the specification of local adaptive system behavior, the integration of knowledge in form of runtime models and the joint interactions via collaboration to place the available adaptive behavior in an overall layered, adaptive SoS architecture.
Beside the modeling language, this thesis proposes analysis rules to investigate the modeled adaptive SoS, which enables the detection of architectural patterns as well as design flaws and pinpoints to possible system threats. Moreover, a simulation framework is presented, which allows the direct execution of the modeled SoS architecture. Therefore, the analysis rules and the simulation framework can be used to verify the interplay between systems as well as the modeled adaptation effects within the SoS. This thesis realizes the proposed concepts of the modeling language by mapping them to a state of the art standard from the automotive domain and thus, showing their applicability to actual systems. Finally, the modeling language approach is evaluated by remodeling up to date research scenarios from different domains, which demonstrates that the modeling language concepts are powerful enough to cope with a broad range of existing research problems.
In this thesis, a route to temperature-, pH-, solvent-, 1,2-diol-, and protein-responsive sensors made of biocompatible and low-fouling materials is established. These sensor devices are based on the sensitivemodulation of the visual band gap of a photonic crystal (PhC), which is induced by the selective binding of analytes, triggering a volume phase transition.
The PhCs introduced by this work show a high sensitivity not only for small biomolecules, but also for large analytes, such as glycopolymers or proteins. This enables the PhC to act as a sensor that detects analytes without the need of complex equipment.
Due to their periodical dielectric structure, PhCs prevent the propagation of specific wavelengths. A change of the periodicity parameters is thus indicated by a change in the reflected wavelengths. In the case explored, the PhC sensors are implemented as periodically structured responsive hydrogels in formof an inverse opal.
The stimuli-sensitive inverse opal hydrogels (IOHs) were prepared using a sacrificial opal template of monodispersed silica particles. First, monodisperse silica particles were assembled with a hexagonally packed structure via vertical deposition onto glass slides. The obtained silica crystals, also named colloidal crystals (CCs), exhibit structural color. Subsequently, the CCs templates were embedded in polymer matrix with low-fouling properties. The polymer matrices were composed of oligo(ethylene glycol) methacrylate derivatives (OEGMAs) that render the hydrogels thermoresponsive. Finally, the silica particles were etched, to produce highly porous hydrogel replicas of the CC. Importantly, the inner structure and thus the ability for light diffraction of the IOHs formed was maintained.
The IOH membrane was shown to have interconnected pores with a diameter as well as interconnections between the pores of several hundred nanometers. This enables not only the detection of small analytes, but also, the detection of even large analytes that can diffuse into the nanostructured IOH membrane. Various recognition unit – analyte model systems, such as benzoboroxole – 1,2-diols, biotin – avidin and mannose – concanavalin A, were studied by incorporating functional
comonomers of benzoboroxole, biotin and mannose into the copolymers. The incorporated recognition units specifically bind to certain low and highmolar mass biomolecules, namely to certain saccharides, catechols, glycopolymers or proteins.
Their specific binding strongly changes the overall hydrophilicity, thus modulating the swelling of the IOH matrices, and in consequence, drastically changes their internal periodicity. This swelling is amplified by the thermoresponsive properties of the polymer matrix. The shift of the interference band gap due to the specific molecular recognition is easily visible by the naked eye (up to 150 nm shifts). Moreover, preliminary trial were attempted to detect even larger entities. Therefore anti-bodies were immobilized on hydrogel platforms via polymer-analogous esterification. These platforms incorporate comonomers made of tri(ethylene glycol) methacrylate end-functionalized with a carboxylic acid. In these model systems, the bacteria analytes are too big to penetrate into the IOH membranes, but can only interact with their surfaces. The selected model bacteria, as Escherichia coli, show a specific affinity to anti-body-functionalized hydrogels. Surprisingly in the case functionalized IOHs, this study produced weak color shifts, possibly opening a path to detect directly living organism, which will need further investigations.
Sport ist heutzutage ein wichtiger Sektor des Arbeitslebens. Arbeitsverträge mit Berufssportlern weichen jedoch von klassischen Arbeitsverträgen in besonderer Weise ab. Der Berufssportler ist in der Ausübung seiner Sportarbeitsleistung zwar freier als andere Arbeitnehmer, aufgrund der physischen und psychischen Belastungen bedarf er aber gleichzeitig einer besonderen Fürsorge durch seinen Arbeitgeber.
Da Gesundheit und Fitness der Berufssportler eine herausgehobene Bedeutung haben, hat der Sportarbeitgeber ein erhöhtes Interesse, das Leben der Sportler auch außerhalb ihrer Kerntätigkeit zu beeinflussen, sei es durch spezielle Ernährungs- oder Trainingspläne oder durch das Verbot, gefährliche Sportarten in der Freizeit zu betreiben.
Aufbauend auf den Grundlagen des allgemeinen Arbeitsrechts untersucht der Verfasser anhand einer Vielzahl von denkbaren Direktionen den Inhalt und die Grenzen des Direktionsrechts im Berufssport. Der Untersuchung liegt die Hauptthese zugrunde, dass das Direktionsrecht im Berufssport aufgrund der Besonderheiten des Sports weiter als im allgemeinen Arbeitsrecht zu fassen ist. Dieses umfassende Direktionsrecht steht dabei in Wechselwirkung zu einer besonderen Fürsorgepflicht des Arbeitgebers. Diese Fürsorgepflicht, die ebenfalls weitreichender als im allgemeinen Arbeitsrecht ist, setzt dem Sportarbeitgeber indes nicht nur Grenzen in der Direktionsrechtsausübung, sondern statuiert darüber hinaus eigenständige Handlungspflichten. Um diese Hauptthese sowie einige Teilfragen nicht nur abstrakt, sondern auch vor dem Hintergrund der sportlichen Praxis rechtlich bewerten zu können, wurde durch den Verfasser Ende des Jahres 2012 eine Umfrage bei den Vereinen der 1. und 2. Fußballbundesliga und bei den Vereinen der 1. Tennisbundesliga durchgeführt. Die Ergebnisse dieser Umfrage stützen die gefundenen rechtlichen Ergebnisse und belegen deren Praxistauglichkeit.
Das Ziel der Doktorarbeit war die Entwicklung und Evaluation eines skillsbasierten primären Präventionsprogramms (Mainzer Schultraining zur Essstörungsprävention (MaiStep)) für partielle und manifeste Essstörungen. Dabei wurde die Wirksamkeit durch einen primären (Reduktion vorhandener Essstörungssymptome) und sekundären (assoziierte Psychopathologie) Zielparameter 3 und 12 Monate nach Durchführung des Trainings überprüft. Innerhalb der randomisiert kontrollierten Studie gab es zwei Interventionsgruppe und eine aktive Kontrollgruppe. 1.654 Jugendliche (weiblich/männlich: 781/873; mittleres Alter: 13.1±0.7; BMI: 20.0±3.5) konnten für die Studie, an zufällig ausgewählten Schulen in Rheinland-Pfalz, rekrutiert werden. Die Entwicklung des Präventionsprogramms basiert auf einem systematischen Literaturreview von 63 wissenschaftlichen Studien über die Prävention von Essstörungen im Kindes- und Jugendalter. Eine Interventionsgruppe wurde durch Psychologinnen/Psychologen und eine zweite durch Lehrkräfte angeleitet. Das in der aktiven Kontrollgruppe durchgeführte Sucht- bzw. Stresspräventionsprogramm wurde durch Lehrkräfte geleitet. MaiStep zeigte zur 3-Monatskatamnese keine signifikanten Effekte im Vergleich zur aktiven Kontrollgruppe. Allerdings zeigten sich nach 12 Monaten multiple signifikante Effekte zwischen den Interventions- und der aktiven Kontrollgruppe. Im Rahmen der Analyse des primären Parameters wurden in den Interventionsgruppen signifikant weniger Jugendliche mit einer partiellen Anorexia nervosa (CHI²(2) = 8.74, p = .01**) und/oder partiellen Bulimia nervosa (CHI²(2) = 7.25, p = .02*) gefunden. Im Rahmen der sekundären Zielparameter zeigten sich signifikante Veränderungen in Subskalen des Eating Disorder Inventory (EDI-2) Schlankheitsstreben (F (2, 355) = 3.94, p = .02*) und Perfektionismus (F (2, 355) = 4.19, p = .01**) sowie dem Body Image Avoidance Questionnaire (BIAQ) (F (2, 525) = 18.79, p = .01**) zwischen den Interventions- und der aktiven Kontrollgruppe. MaiStep kann somit als erfolgreiches Programm zur Reduktion von partiellen Essstörungen für die Altersgruppe der 13- 15-jährigen bezeichnet werden. Trotz unterschiedlicher Wirkmechanismen zeigten sich die Lehrkräfte im Vergleich zu den Psychologinnen/Psychologen ebenso erfolgreich in der Durchführung.

The aim of this study was to examine how automatic evaluations of exercising (AEE) varied according to adherence to an exercise program. Eighty-eight participants (24.98 years ± 6.88; 51.1% female) completed a Brief-Implicit Association Task assessing their AEE, positive and negative associations to exercising at the beginning of a 3-month exercise program. Attendance data were collected for all participants and used in a cluster analysis of adherence patterns. Three different adherence patterns (52 maintainers, 16 early dropouts, 20 late dropouts; 40.91% overall dropouts) were detected using cluster analyses. Participants from these three clusters differed significantly with regard to their positive and negative associations to exercising before the first course meeting (η2p = 0.07). Discriminant function analyses revealed that positive associations to exercising was a particularly good discriminating factor. This is the first study to provide evidence of the differential impact of positive and negative associations on exercise behavior over the medium term. The findings contribute to theoretical understanding of evaluative processes from a dual-process perspective and may provide a basis for targeted interventions.
