Moses Mendelssohn (geb. 1729 in Dessau, gest. 1786 in Berlin) gehört zu den Schlüsselfiguren der europäischen Aufklärung. Der Freund Lessings setzte sich mit der kantischen Philosophie auseinander und entwickelte unter anderem eine philosophische Theorie des Judentums. Von ihm liegen zahlreiche Schriften zur Theorie der Gefühle, zur Ästhetik, Anthropologie und Literaturwissenschaft vor.
