Naomi

Naomi is one of the dramatis personae of the book of Ruth, which is set by its author “in the days that the judges judged” (Ruth 1:1). She is introduced as wife of Elimelech and mother of Mahlon and Chilion, all of whom journeyed to Moab from Bethlehem, due to famine. By the fifth verse in the book’s first chapter, her husband and sons are dead, leaving Naomi with only her Moabite daughters-in-law, Orpah and Ruth (Ruth 1:1–5). Shortly thereafter, Orpah too exits the stage (Ruth 1:14). Against Naomi’s protestations, Ruth ties her own fate to her mother-in-law’s, joining Naomi on her journey back to Bethlehem (Ruth 1:4b, 8–19a).
Mordecai (Son of Jair)

Mordecai, son of Jair, is the Deuteragonist of the book of Esther. Some time after the death of the eponymous Esther’s parents, Mordecai – Esther’s cousin – becomes her guardian (Esth 2:7). The MT version of the book also has Mordecai adopting Esther as his daughter (Esth 2:7, 15). In LXX, on the other hand, Mordecai takes her as his wife (Esth 2:7; cf. bMeg 13a). Although the syntax of Esth 2:5–6 is convoluted, it appears Mordecai is a Benjaminite deportee from Jerusalem – exiled by Nebuchadnezzar, along with King Jeconiah and others. Presuming a coherent historical and chronological framework, this would make Mordecai 114 years old at the time of the events, at the very least, which does not accord with his depiction throughout the novella. (This biographical detail is absent in the Greek Alpha Text of Esther.)
Jonah

In the Masoretic canon of the Tanakh the book of Jonah appears as the fifth part of Tre Assar, or Twelve Minor Prophets, between Obadiah and Micah. In the Septuagint, on the other hand, Jonah appears as the sixth book in the series, and is followed immediately by Nahum. As both Jonah and Nahum speak out against the city of Nineveh, their chronology became an issue early in their discourses of reception (Liv. Pro. 11:1; Josephus, Ant. 9:239–242; Tg.Nah 1:1).
Cain and Abel

The biblical story of Cain and Abel in Genesis 4:1–16 appears as the first case of siblings’ rivalry in the Torah. It is the starting point of a socio-ethical process of human development within the book of Genesis. The sibling narrative also includes the first report of homicide, more precisely a fratricide, as Cain slays his own brother Abel (Gen 4:8). The Jewish and Christian reception discourse of the Cain-Abel-story developed early on to deal with a range of open questions and difficult passages provided by the biblical text. The basic assumptions of Jewish and Christian interpretations are initially similar in terms of attempting to explain God’s preference for Abel’s sacrifice and Cain’s motivation for killing his brother.

Pandemi, alışkanlıklarımızda, planlarımızda, hayata bakış açımızda geri dönülemez değişiklikler yaptı. Benim payıma düşen ise uzun zamandır üzerinde çalıştığım doktora tezimin olmazsa olmaz parçası olan İsrail’de yapmayı planladığım alan araştırmasının iki sene boyunca sürekli ertelenmesi oldu. Önce aşı sırası bekledim sonra birinci ve ikinci doz arasındaki on dört günü; bu sırada en çok girdiğim internet sitesi İsrail Dışişleri Bakanlığı’nın seyahat düzenlemelerini paylaştığı sayfası oldu. Kimi zaman detaylar arasında kayboldum, bürokrasinin çarkları arasında “bu madde acaba işime yarar mı?” diye beyhude akıllar yürüttüm. Tel Aviv Üniversitesi’nden alan araştırmamın merakla desteklendiğini içeren davet mektupları aldım ama pandemi merakla desteklenen çalışmaya iki kez baskın çıktı ve vize başvurum iki kez reddedildi. Sonuç olarak 2020’nin ikinci yarısında yapmam gereken alan araştırmasını 2022 yılının Şubat ayına kadar ertelenmek zorunda kaldım.
Religious Mapping Erbil (RME) is a joint project of teams from the Catholic University in Erbil (CUE), Salahaddin University-Erbil (SUE) and Tishk International University (TIU) under the guidance of the University of Potsdam (UP). From 2018 to 2022, the project was financed by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).
This project involves scholars of various disciplines including religious studies, Islamic studies, English language, applied computing, and computer engineering. The research is a cooperation of students, PhD candidates and advanced scholars.
The project attempts to display the religious diversity in Erbil, the fast-changing capital of Iraqi Kurdistan. Unlike a census or a survey, which focuses on individuals, RME presents the locations (mosques, churches, synagogues, temples and other venues) together with the history and social profiles of the congregations meeting there. The data were obtained by visiting the locations, observing their services, interviewing community leaders (mostly imams and priests), evaluating information from the Ministry of Endowment and Religious Affairs, and by consulting websites. All investigations followed the same pattern, consisting of (I) spatiotemporal and (III) social dimensions, framed by (II) religious performance.
Ramadan ABC

Der Ramadan ist der soziale und spirituelle Höhepunkt des religiösen Lebens der Muslim:innen. Motiviert und veranlasst durch den Ramadan soll jede:r Muslim:in diese Möglichkeit nutzen, um zuerst inneren Frieden zu schließen und dieses Wohlbefinden dann auf sein:ihr Umfeld zu übertragen.
In diesem Monat des Fastens kommen täglich Verwandte, Freund:innen und Nachbar:innen an Iftar-Abenden zum Essen zusammen. In diesem Sinne strebten wir als Forum Dialog e.V. an, diese besonderen Momente und Erlebnisse mit unseren Freund:innen und Mitmenschen zu teilen und somit an Iftar-Abenden unter dem Motto “Sharing Ramadan” zusammenzukommen.
Doch Aufgrund der Corona-Pandemie ist es leider nur bedingt möglich, an solchen gemeinschaft- und freundschaftsstiftenden Abenden zusammenzukommen.
Wir möchten jedoch weiterhin im Geiste des Ramadans und gemäß unserem Motto “Sharing Ramadan” handeln und freuen uns, euch die zweite Auflage unseres Sharing Ramadan-Heftes zu präsentieren. Mit seinen informativen, spirituellen und unter-haltenden Inhalten hoffen wir, dass wir Ihnen die spirituelle Seite des Ramadans und seine Bedeutung für die Glaubenswelt der Muslim:innen näherbringen können.
