• The Institutional Repository of the University of Potsdam makes the scientific findings of the university available to the scientific community. It thereby provides an active external representation of the university’s scientific excellence.

• Scientific documents (document types) of university members are archived in suitable file formats for long-term preservation and the full text is published on the internet.

• The Institutional Repository is committed to the principles of Open Access. The documents are provided to the public at no charge and generally without access restrictions.

• The Institutional Repository is connected to a global network of repositories via an OAI interface. This allows for global access from diverse entry points (external databases). The documents are indexed professionally with DC metadata.

• Documents archived on the Institutional Repository are protected by German copyright law. In order to allow for a greater degree of freedom in the exchange of ideas in science, authors can define the amount of utilisation rights granted through assigning a Creative-Commons-Licence. Authors retain all rights after publication of their works on the Institutional Repository. This includes, of course, the right for a secondary publication elsewhere.
