Antisemitism in muslim communities and muslim countries: debates and studies of a complex issue
(2015)
In this article, I discuss surveys, academic debates, and research on antisemitism among Muslims in Muslim-majority countries and in Europe today. After a review of antisemitism in both cases, different explanations for its causes are presented. Negative attitudes towards Jews in Muslim countries are the rule, not the exception. An important factor in almost all Muslim countries are anti-Zionist attitudes and agitations that are mixed with antisemitic stereotypes and conspiracy theories. In Europe, antisemitism is more prevalent among Muslims than among non-Muslims and Muslims are disproportionately often involved in antisemitic incidents.
It turns out that antisemitism among Muslims is manifested in many ways and that it has many causes. One-dimensional explanations are not sufficient. Arguments that antisemitism is primarily a result of the Middle East conflict or of discrimination/colonization seem to be outdated in view of new research. Historically, the interaction of Arab nationalism, Islamist movements, and the collaboration with the Nazis in the middle of the 20th century played a significant role in ensuring that the discriminatory treatment of Jews in Islam in the Middle Ages did not disappear in the course of establishing nation states, but was converted to a large extent into antisemitism. Today, Islamist influences and stereotypes that are passed on by media and within social circles are essential factors for the prevalence of antisemitic attitudes among Muslims.

The present study addresses diagnostic competence of English language teachers at the end of lower secondary education. The 56 teachers assigned each of their respective students (N = 1 363) to a proficiency level of foreign language use according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). The teachers' judgements were compared to CEFR proficiency level assignments estimated using data from a reading comprehension assessment of English as a foreign language. The consistency of proficiency level allocations was evaluated using level, differentiation, and ranking components. Beyond providing a description of diagnostic competence, the present study focuses on the influence of classroom halo effects on teachers' CEFR proficiency level judgements by comparing teacher judgments and students' English marks. A multilevel model of diagnostic competence is presented to assess to what extent the rank and level components are influenced by teachers' familiarity with and use of the CEFR guidelines when judging student proficiency.

Since the 1970s in France, becoming a mother without being in a relationship has become a symbol of women's autonomy. Hence, being a single mother no longer necessarily means being the victim of male desertion or being a woman with permissive sexual behaviour. Instead, the mother can be an active social agent who has deliberately chosen to experience single parenthood. In order to understand if public solidarity and private sources of help can protect these women against emotional solitude and social isolation, this article presents three case studies taken from sociological research on single mothers in the French region of Pays de la Loire.

This volume, translated into French from the Russian [Jazyk drevnejsej irlandskoj poezii] by Yves Le Berre and edited by Hildegard L. C. Tristram is the only analysis and discussion to date of the language, style and metrics of the earliest Old Irish poetry. This poetry is oral-derived and reflects the poetic practices of the pre-christian and therefore preliterate period of Irish culture. Much of it is related by Kalyguine to the magical understanding of shaman- like poetic practices.
