N2  - It has been observed for many African languages that focussed subjects
have to appear outside of their syntactic base position, as opposed to
focussed objects, which can remain in-situ. This is known as subjectobject
asymmetry of focus marking, which Fiedler et al. (2010) claim
to hold also for Akan. Genzel (2013), on the other hand, argues that
Akan does not exhibit a subject-object focus asymmetry. A questionnaire
study and a production experiment were carried out to investigate
whether focussed subjects may indeed be realized in-situ in Akan. The
results suggest that (i) focussed subjects do not have to be obligatorily
realized ex-situ, and that (ii) the syntactic preference for the realization
of a focussed subject highly depends on exhaustivity.

Niger-Congo) by examining the semantics of the so-called focus marker
in the language. It is shown that the so-called focus marker expresses
exhaustivity when it occurs in a sentence with narrow focus. The study
employs four standard tests for exhaustivity proposed in the literature
to examine the semantics of Akan focus constructions (Szabolsci 1981,
1994; É. Kiss 1998; Hartmann and Zimmermann 2007). It is shown that
although a focused entity with the so-called focus marker nà is
interpreted to mean ‘only X and nothing/nobody else,’ this meaning
appears to be pragmatic.

fieldwork “ideally involves observing the language as it is used,

the kinship system”. Descriptive linguistics therefore differs from
theoretical linguistics in that while the former seeks to describe natural
languages as they are used, the latter, other than describing, attempts
to give explanations on how or why language phenomena behave in
certain ways. Thus, I will abstract away from any preconceived ideas
on how sentences ought to be in Awing and take the linguist/reader
through focus and interrogative constructions to get a feeling of how
the Awing people interact verbally.

(Panoan). It is found that Kakataibo makes a distinction in the modal
space based on the modality type. Circumstantial modality is encoded
by a construction while the epistemic space is conveyed by the second
position enclitics =dapi ‘inferential’, =id ‘second-hand information’
and =kuni ‘contrastive assertion’. However, none of these strategies to
encode modality restricts the quantificational force, leaving it
underspecified. These facts are consistent with the predictions of
current typologies of modal systems.

In seinem Kommentar zur aristotelischen „Poetik“, der „Constitutio tragoediae“, ordnet Heinsius das technische Wissen der aristotelischen „Poetik“ der neuplatonischen Inspirationstheorie unter. Dadurch transformiert er den traditionellen, historisch-philologischen Kommentar in eine neue Form des technischen Handbuchs, wie es die „Constitutio tragoediae“ darstellt.
N2  - The paper sketches out Daniel Heinsius' disdain for philology as expressed in his Orationes. It argues that this disdain was founded in Heinsius' neoplatonic poetics with its sacralisation of poetry. In his commentary on the Aristotelian Poetics, the Constitutio tragoediae, Heinsius subordinates the technical knowledge as expressed in the Aristotelian Poetics to the Neoplatonic doctrine of inspiration. By that, he transformed the traditional historical-philological commentary into the new type of technical handbook exemplified by the Constitutio tragoediae.

Recurring narrative structures, thematic constellations and motivations as well as lexical stereotypes are part of this comprehensive principle of seriality. Not triviality and insufficiency, but structural and narrative complexity and lexical accumulation of significance characterize ›Loher und Maller‹.

Ausgehend von der Übersetzung von ‚Tragödie‘ und ‚Komödie‘ mit ‚Lob‘ und ‚Tadel‘ entwickelt Averroes einen Begriff von Dichtung als moralphilosophisches Argument zum Lob der Tugend und zum Tadel des Lasters. Im Mittelpunkt steht die Interpretation des aristotelischen Begriffs der mimesis als similitudo, das heißt als Gleichnis. Als gleichnishaftes Argument ist Dichtung nur graduell von anderen argumentativen Formen wie der demonstrativen Logik und der Rhetorik unterschieden.
N2  - The paper argues that Averroes’ paraphrase of Aristotle’s ‚Poetics‘ is a consistent theory of poetry, though not having much in common with Aristotle’s original conception. Based on the translation of ‚tragedy‘ and ‚comedy‘ as ‚praise‘ and ‚blame‘, Averroes develops a concept of poetry as a moral-philosophical argument to praise virtue and to blame vice. The focus lies on the interpretation of Aristotelian mimesis as similitudo, that is ‚parabolic quality‘. Being a parabolic argument poetry is distinguishable only gradually from other argumentative techniques such as demonstrative logic or rhetoric.

Starting from the 10th century with Al-Farabi and Al-Gazali, the ‘Poetics’ is assigned to the logical disciplines of the ‘Organon’. While the theory of a ‘poetic syllogism’ never made its way to the Latin West, from 12th century onwards the logical, argumentative status of poetics became a well-known fact to western philosophers as well. With varying reasons Dominicus Gundissalinus, Vincent of Beauvais, Albertus Magnus, Roger Bacon and Thomas Aquinas adopted the classification of poetics as an argumentative discipline. The paper ends with a prospect on Coluccio Salutati’s ‘Labours of Hercules’ and the humanist reception of this tradition.

N2  - Der Beitrag zeigt in einem ersten Schritt, dass die "Absurda comica" ein theologisches Gleichnis darstellt, in dem der König die Rolle Gottes, Pickelhäring die Rolle des Teufels und die Handwerker die Rolle des Menschen übernehmen. Schlüssel für dieses Gleichnis ist Lk 9.60 und Mt 8.22, wo Christus von seinen Jüngern fordert, "die Toten ihre Toten begraben zu lassen", d.h. sich vom Reich der Welt abzuwenden. Auf die "Absurda comica" übertragen, besagt dies, dass die Handwerker die Rollenhaftigkeit und die Narrheit ihrer Existenz erkennen müssen, wenn sie vor Gott gerechtfertigt werden wollen. In einem zweiten Schritt wird gezeigt, dass die "Absurda comica" als ein solches Gleichnis in der Tradition der Fastnachtspiele steht, deren Funktion eben dieser Aufweis der menschlichen Narrheit war. Das protestantische Schuldrama trat dabei bewusst in die Tradition dieser Fastnachtspiele, wie sich gerade an der "Absurda comica" zeigen lässt. In einem dritten Schritt wird diese These in einem Vergleich mit Jacob Masens "Rusticus imperans" und Christian Weises "Tobias und die Schwalbe" bestätigt.

N2  - Der Aufsatz analysiert die Begriffe der imaginatio und inventio und deren Verhältnis zueinander in den Poetiken von George Puttenham („Arte of English Poesie“, 1589), Philip Sidney („Defense of Poetry“, 1595) und William Temple („Analysis tractationis de poesi“, um 1595). Anders als zu erwarten wird in allen drei Fällen das dichterische Vermögen nicht im Sinne eines modernen Begriffs von kreativer Phantasie gedeutet. Weil der Begriff der imaginatio eine gefährliche Nähe zu den Wahnvorstellungen eines Verrückten impliziert, es Puttenham und Sidney aber vor allem um eine soziale Aufwertung der Dichtung als einer höfisch angemessenen Tätigkeit geht, wird der Begriff der imaginatio nur in einem sehr eingeschränkten Sinne verwendet. Das impliziert auch eine Ablehnung des Begriffs eines Enthusiasmus oder furor poeticus, also einer göttlichen Inspiration des Dichters, wie er insbesondere mit dem Neuplatonismus Ficinos assoziiert wurde.
