Además, a partir del estudio comparativo de algunos elementos arquitectónicos emblemáticos como son los palacios, los puentes y, sobre todo, la conformación laberíntica, se muestran las peculiaridades de la representación de Venecia en obras de Julieta Campos, Alejo Carpentier, Julio Cortázar, Hugo von Hofmannsthal, Thomas Mann y Sergio Pitol. Con ello se busca, primeramente, visibilizar el papel de Venecia en la literatura latinoamericana y, segundo, ofrecer nuevas claves de lectura a obras que han sido ampliamente estudiadas, mas no en una confrontación transareal. Anhand theoretischer Ansätze zur Reiseliteratur wird die mythische Struktur entschlüsselt, die der Beschreibung der Reise in die Lagunenstadt zugrunde liegt. Ziel ist es, die erzählerischen und stilistischen Mittel aufzuzeigen, mit denen diese meist schemenhafte Reise mit der allmählichen Herausbildung des Konflikts der Protagonisten verwoben wird. Darüber hinaus werden anhand der vergleichenden Untersuchung einiger emblematischer architektonischer Elemente wie Paläste, Brücken und vor allem des labyrinthischen Aufbaus die Besonderheiten der Darstellung Venedigs in Werken von Julieta Campos, Alejo Carpentier, Julio Cortázar, Hugo von Hofmannsthal, Thomas Mann und Sergio Pitol aufgezeigt. It argues that some marked forms differ from unmarked forms in that they encode modal evaluations of the at-issue meaning. Two epistemic evaluations that can be shown to be encoded by intonation in Spanish are obviousness and mirativity, which present the at-issue meaning as expected and unexpected, respectively. An empirical investigation via a production experiment finds that they are associated with distinct intonational features under constant focus scope, with stances of (dis)agreement showing an impact on obvious declaratives. Wh-exclamatives are found not to differ significantly in intonational marking from neutral declaratives, showing that they need not be miratives. Moreover, we find that intonational marking on different discourse particles in natural dialogue correlates with their meaning contribution without being fully determined by it. In part, these findings quantitatively confirm previous qualitative findings on the meaning of intonational configurations in Madrid Spanish. But they also add new insights on the role intonation plays in the negotiation of commitments and expectations between interlocutors. In the afterword, translated here into German, translator Gao Hong familiarizes Chinese readers with the characteristics of Humboldt՚s “description of the world,” which presents natural phenomena in their interrelationships and their connection with the universe as a whole. Gao Hong describes her own journey in Humboldt՚s footsteps and her fascination with this nature painting, which also meets the highest aesthetic standards and is designed to promote awe towards the cosmos. Transmitting the “geometric beauty” of this language is a particular challenge because the flowing, pictorial structure of Chinese is almost contrary to the strict regulations of German. As a translator you have to move freely between the two worlds. In this letter from 1849, Humboldt praised the achievements of a young professor at the University of Marburg: Carl Ludwig, now famous for his groundbreaking discoveries in physiology. Humboldt’s friend and colleague, Emil du Bois-Reymond, had facilitated the contact between Ludwig and Humboldt. The letter of recommendation, with which Humboldt sought to help improve Ludwig’s financial situation, is an example of how Humboldt promoted the work of young scientists and independent scientific institutions. N2 - Dieser Artikel befasst sich mit den bildhaften Eigenschaften der vielen statistischen Tabellen in Alexander von Humboldts Essai politique sur le royaume de la Nouvelle Espagne (1808–1811, 2nd ed. 1820–1827), wobei meine besondere Aufmerksamkeit den Verhältnissen gilt, die diese aus Zahlen, alphabetischer Schrift und semiotischen Elementen zusammengesetzten Komposita (die Humboldt als Tableaux bezeichnet) mit der beschreibenden Erzählung selbst eingehen: In diesen Verhältnissen offenbaren sich nämlich Dimensionen oder Räumlichkeiten, die durch die visuelle Zerteilung des Textes stets weitere, neue Verbindungen, Gespräche und Ideen zu produzieren suchen.
