N2  - Die Untersuchung "Gymnasio und Lykio in Griechenland. Ergebnisse einer Längsschnittuntersuchung, Kritik und Perspektiven" wurde von Panajotis Xochellis, Universität Thessaloniki, und Diether Hopf, Max-Planck-Institut für Bildungsforschung, 1980 begonnen und nach drei Messzeitpunkten mit einer letzten Datenerhebung im Schuljahr 2000/2001 abgeschlossen. Es geht um die Entwicklung ausgewählter Schulen in einem 20-jährigen Zeitraum, wobei Daten aus einer Vielzahl von Perspektiven erhoben wurden: Neben Informationen aus der allgemeinen griechischen Bildungsstatistik wurden die Schulleiter der Schulen befragt und interviewt, Lehrer füllten Fragebögen aus und ließen ihren Unterricht beobachten, außerdem wurden Schüler ausführlich befragt. Inhaltlich stehen die folgenden Themen im Vordergrund: Didaktik und Methodik in 5 Fächern (Neugriechisch, Altgriechisch, Geschichte, Mathematik, Physik), Leistungsbeurteilung und Übergangsauslese zum tertiären Sektor, Schul- und Unterrichtsklima, Motivation und Interessen der Schüler. Außerdem werden strukturelle Daten über das griechische Sekundarschulwesen insgesamt mit Bezug auf die untersuchten Schulen interpretiert und in den Zusammenhang mit internationalen Leistungsstudien (z.B. PISA) gestellt. Variablen wie Geschlecht der Schüler und Lehrer oder sozioökonomischer Status finden ebenfalls Berücksichtigung. Insgesamt ergibt sich eine Fülle interessanter Resultate, die teilweise von erheblicher bildungspolitischer Relevanz sind.
N2  - The longitudinal research project "Gymnasio and Lykio in Greece" was conducted by Panajotis Xochellis, University of Thessaloniki, and Diether Hopf, Max-Planck-Institute for Human Development, Berlin, and University of Potsdam. The study started 1980 with the initial collection of data and ended, after three points of measurement, in the school year 2000/2001. The project describes the development of selected secondary schools and interprets their stability and change concerning a number of variables. The schools were identified on the basis of a complete assessment of all Greek secondary schools by questionnaire, which allowed to pick out schools according to relevant indices. The variables were collected from a variety of different sources and perspectives: Besides the relevant official and especially for the purpose of this study compiled statistical data concerning schooling and teaching in Greece, intensive interviews with the headmasters of the schools were conducted, teacher and student questionnaires were administered and extended classroom observations were conducted during each period of measurement. The study is concerned with many different topics, among them: didactics and teaching methods in five school subjects (Modern Greek, Ancient Greek, History, Mathematics, Science); assessment and measurement of student achievement; selection processes for the Tertiary System of Education; classroom and school climate; motivation and interests of students. Besides that, structural data of the Greek secondary school system are interpreted with reference to the findings in the researched schools and to the findings of international studies on school achievement (e.g. PISA, Programme for International Student Assessment). Additional variables like student and teacher gender, social class, and migration background are included into the data analysis too. Many results of high theoretical and practical interest are presented. Since this study is the first of its kind in Greece, the findings are of substantial relevance to educational politics.
