Dazu werden die Forschungsergebnisse aus der Vergangenheit und der Gegenwart zur Gewinnung von allgemeinem Zukunftswissen über den Einfluss von Trends auf Verhandlungen genutzt. Diese Erkenntnisse bilden die Grundlage für die Bildung von ganzheitlichen Verhandlungsszenarien, die durch stark miteinander verknüpfte Einflussfaktoren charakterisiert sind, die zukünftige Verhandlungen bestimmen werden. Die effektive Vorbereitung von Verhandlungsführern auf die Zukunft ergänzt die Erkenntnisse, indem die Gestaltung von Verhandlungstrainings für eine nachhaltig gesteigerte Verhandlungsleistung untersucht wird. Jedes Paper der kumulativen Dissertation untersucht einen der skizzierten Themenbereiche. Im ersten Paper wird anhand von zukunftsorientierten Verhandlungsfaktoren analysiert, wie sich verschiedene Megatrends auf Geschäftsverhandlungen auswirken. Die Ergebnisse einer Online-Befragung von Verhandlungspraktikern und Experteninterviews zeigen eine globale Zukunftsorientierung mit lang- und kurzfristigen Partnerschaften, zunehmender Vernetzung und steigende Erwartungen an die Verhandlungsführer, die verstärkte Komplexität zu bewältigen. Die Identifizierung und Gestaltung von ganzheitlichen Verhandlungsszenarien ist Untersuchungsgegenstand des zweiten Papers, um den Erwerb von Zukunftswissen über Geschäftsverhandlungen zu ergänzen. Mit den qualitativen und quantitativen Methoden des Szenario-Ansatzes werden in einem mehrstufigen Prozess fünf ganzheitliche Verhandlungsszenarien entwickelt, die empirisch validierte, strategische Orientierungshilfen für die Zukunft darstellen. Die szenarioübergreifenden Entwicklungen implizieren eine hohe Interaktion zwischen den Verhandlungspartnern und die Förderung von Innovationen innerhalb von Geschäftsbeziehungen. Zudem zeigen sie einen Bedarf für die Integration von Verhandlungstechnologien auf, verdeutlichen den Nutzen von qualifizierten Verhandlern und unterstreichen die Relevanz eines pragmatischen und flexiblen Verhandlungsverhaltens. Previous studies show that e-mail newsletters commonly include tracking elements. However, prior work does not examine the degree to which e-mail senders actually employ gathered user information. The paper closes this research gap by means of an experimental study to clarify the use of tracking-based infor- mation. To that end, twelve mail accounts are created, each of which subscribes to a pre-defined set of newsletters from companies based in Germany, the UK, and the USA. Systematically varying e-mail reading patterns across accounts, each account simulates a different type of user with individual read- ing behavior. Assuming senders to track e-mail reading habits, we expect changes in mailer behavior. The analysis confirms the prominence of tracking in that over 92% of the newsletter e-mails contain tracking images. For 13 out of 44 senders an adjustment of communication policy in response to user reading behavior is observed. Observed effects include sending newsletters at different times, adapting advertised products to match the users’ IT environment, increased or decreased mailing frequency, and mobile-specific adjustments. Regarding legal issues, not all companies that adapt the mail-sending behavior state the usage of such mechanisms in their privacy policy. This paper provides the necessary building blocks of digital participation and, in particular, classifies the issue of trust creation within it as a significant success factor. Such tracking can be harmful for user privacy and security. This problem is especially severe since e-mail tracking techniques gather data without user consent. Striving to increase privacy and security in e-mail communication, the paper makes three contributions. First, a large database of newsletter e-mails is developed. This data facilitates investigating the prevalence of e- mail tracking among 300 global enterprises from Germany, the United Kingdom and the United States. Second, countermeasures are developed for automatically identifying and blocking e-mail tracking mechanisms without impeding the user experience. The approach consists of identifying important tracking descriptors and creating a neural network-based detection model. Last, the effectiveness of the proposed approach is established by means of empirical experimentation. The results suggest a classification accuracy of 99.99%. Tested incentives satisfy needs for either achievement or appreciation. Both treatments were tested on implicit as well as explicit knowledge sharing. A 2 x 3 factorial survey experiment was designed to observe within-person and between-person effects. Data were collected from public employees in the core administration and healthcare sector (n = 623) in 2018. The analysis indicates that both treatments positively affect knowledge-sharing intention if it is explicit knowledge that ought to be shared. However, no effects of either treatment can be found in either type of knowledge sharing. No negative effect of the tested incentives on knowledge sharing was observed. Hence, incentives might not harm knowledge sharing but also do not pay off in organizational practice. In contrast to these motivation-enhancing human resource practices, ability and opportunity-enhancing practices should be tested to foster knowledge sharing. These not only have to cope with an increased product diversity but also enable high throughputs and provide a high adaptability and robustness to process variations and unforeseen incidents. To overcome these challenges, deep Reinforcement Learning (RL) has been increasingly applied for the optimization of production systems. Unlike other machine learning methods, deep RL operates on recently collected sensor-data in direct interaction with its environment and enables real-time responses to system changes. Although deep RL is already being deployed in production systems, a systematic review of the results has not yet been established. The main contribution of this paper is to provide researchers and practitioners an overview of applications and to motivate further implementations and research of deep RL supported production systems. Findings reveal that deep RL is applied in a variety of production domains, contributing to data-driven and flexible processes. In most applications, conventional methods were outperformed and implementation efforts or dependence on human experience were reduced. This acceptance depends in turn on students’ characteristics and dispositions, among other factors. In our study, we investigated the influence of digital competences, self-organization, and independent learning abilities on students’ acceptance of digital learning and the influence of their acceptance on the resistance to the change from face-to-face to digital learning. To do so, we surveyed 350 students and analyzed the impact of the different dispositions using ordinary least squares regression analysis. We could confirm a significant positive influence of all the tested dispositions on the acceptance of digital learning. With the results, we can contribute to further investigating the underlying factors that can lead to more positive student perceptions of digital learning and build a foundation for future strategies of implementing digital learning into higher education successfully. A major developmental step toward the digitization of teaching was achieved in the context of university teaching during the Covid 19 pandemic in spring 2020, when face-to-face teaching was interrupted for months. During this time, important insights into the opportunities and limitations of digital teaching were gained. The study uncovers opportunities and limitations of digital teaching from the students’ perspective and against the background of their experience in the completely digital semester. This article presents a novel protection framework against e-mail tracking that closes an impor- tant gap in the field of enterprise security and privacy-enhancing technologies. We conceptualize, implement and evaluate an anti-tracking mail server that is capable of identifying tracking images in e-mails via machine learning with very high accuracy, and can selectively replace them with arbitrary images containing warning messages for the recipient. Design/methodology/approach: An international, two-stage Delphi study with 20 projections is used. Findings: According to the experts, blockchain applications will be primarily based on permissioned or consortium blockchains. Blockchain-based applications will integrate Internet of Things devices in the power grid, manage the e-mobility infrastructure, automate billing and direct payment and issue certificates regarding the origin of electricity. Blockchain solutions are expected to play an important big role in fostering peer-to-peer trading in microgrids, further democratizing and decentralizing the energy sector. New regulatory frameworks become necessary. Research limitations/implications: The Delphi study’s scope is rather broad than narrow and detailed. Further studies should focus on partial scenarios. We conduct a survey of German sales employees to investigate specifically how, on the one hand, (1) corporate rules and (2) performance pressure, both implemented by top management, and, on the other hand, (3) others’ PINC expectations and (4) others’ PINC behavior, both arising from the employee’s immediate work environment, influence PINC behavior. When considered in isolation, we find that corporate rules, as top management’s main instrument to guide employee behavior, decrease employee PINC behavior. However, this effect is negatively influenced by the employees’ immediate work environment when employees are expected to engage in PINC or when others engage in PINC. In contrast, even though top management places great performance pressure on employees, that by itself does not increase PINC behavior. Design/methodology/approach - The authors used two laboratory studies and paired 216 MBA students into single-gender teams of friends and non-friends, and then engaged them in several dyadic multi-issue negotiations. Findings - The results show that on average, male teams of non-friends reached significantly better outcomes than female teams of non-friends. However, and interestingly, female teams of friends perform equally to male teams of friends. Research limitations/implications - The authors contribute both to the negotiations and the workplace friendship literature because very little research has examined negotiation among friends at work and in particular team negotiations. In addition, the authors also contribute to the literature on gender differences in negotiations because existing research has rarely examined the differences between all-male and all-female teams and especially the relationship between same-sex teams and their effects on negotiation outcomes. Practical implications - This research has clear implications to managers with regard to team composition. Specifically, a winning all-female team should not be changed! Design/methodology/approach - The study is based on a large online negotiation simulation that allows a phase-specific analysis of negotiation styles via an elaborate coding scheme. Findings - The findings reveal that negotiators generally do not limit themselves to a single negotiation style. Instead, they vary their style in the course of different negotiation phases. The authors distinguish between five distinct phase-specific negotiation style patterns that differ with regard to their impact on negotiation performance but not negotiation satisfaction. Practical implications - Negotiation practitioners get to know different phase-specific negotiation style patterns and get insights into which pattern is the most promising for negotiation performance. As a result, they can acquire this phase-specific negotiation style pattern to enhance their performance. Using a laboratory experiment, we hold the average employee compensation constant and demonstrate that, in comparison with fixed-pay contracts, self-set salaries increase the quantitative performance in creative tasks without affecting the average creativity. However, we do not find significant differences between the amount of individuals’ self-set salaries with observability of peer performance and the amount for individuals without the chance to observe peer performance. Design/methodology/approach: Semi-structured interviews were conducted with ten members of academic staff at a German university. Participants’ responses to the open-ended questions were coded inductively, while responses concerning the proposed model of academic competencies were coded deductively using a priori categories. Findings: Participating academic staff expected first-year students to be most competent in time management and in learning skills; they perceived students’ technology proficiency to be rather high but their research skills as low. Interviews indicated a mismatch between academic staff expectations and perceptions. Practical implications: These findings may enable universities to provide support services for first-year students to help them to adjust to the demands of higher education. They may also serve as a platform to discuss how academic staff can support students to develop the required academic competencies, as well as a broader conversation about higher education pedagogy and competency assessment. Originality/value: Little research has investigated the perspectives of academic staff concerning the academic competencies they expect of first-year students. The first study examines CEO effects on a wide range of offenses. Using data from enforcement actions by more than 50 U.S. federal agencies, regression re-sults show CEO effects on the likelihood, frequency, and severity of corporate misconduct. The findings hold for financial, labor-related, and environmental offenses; however, CEO effects are more pronounced for non-financial misconduct. Further results show a positive relation between CEO ability and non-financial misconduct, but no relation with financial misconduct, suggesting that higher CEO ability can have adverse consequences for employee welfare and society and public health. The second study focuses on CEO and CFO effects on financial misreporting. Using data on restatements and public enforcement actions, regression results show that the incremental effect of CFOs is economically larger than that of CEOs. This greater economic impact of CFOs is particularly pronounced for fraudulent misreporting. The findings remain consistent across different samples, methods, misreporting measures, and specification choices for the underlying conceptual mechanism, highlighting the important role of the CFO as a key player in the beyond-GAAP setting. The third study reexamines the relation between equity incentives and different reporting outcomes. The literature review reveals large variation in the empirical measures for firm size as standard control variable, equity incentives as key explanatory variables, and the reporting outcome of interest. Regres-sion results show that these design choices have a direct bearing on empirical results, with changes in t-statistics that often exceed typical thresholds for statistical significance. The find-ings hold for aggressive accrual management, earnings management through discretionary accruals, and material misstatements, suggesting that common design choices can have a large impact on whether equity incentives effects are considered significant or not. N2 - Die vorliegende kumulative Doktorarbeit umfasst drei empirische Studien, die den Einfluss von Führungskräften auf nachteilige Rechnungslegungspraktiken und anderes Fehl-verhalten von Unternehmen untersuchen. Die erste Studie untersucht den Einfluss von CEOs auf ein breites Spektrum an Verstößen. Dazu werden Daten zu Durchsetzungsmaßnahmen von mehr als 50 US-Regulierungsbehörden ausgewertet. Die Ergebnisse der Regressionsana-lyse zeigen, dass CEOs die Wahrscheinlichkeit, Häufigkeit und Schwere des Fehlverhalten beeinflussen, sowohl bei finanziellen Verstößen als auch bei Verstößen gegen Arbeitnehmer-rechte und Umweltvorschriften, wobei der Einfluss von CEOs bei den nicht-finanziellen Ver-stößen durchgehend stärker ausgeprägt ist. Die zweite Studie geht verstärket auf den Einfluss von CEOs und CFOs auf Falschbe-richterstattung ein. Dazu werden Daten zu nachträglichen Anpassungen bereits veröffentlich-ter Rechnungslegungswerke sowie Durchsetzungsmaßnahmen ausgewertet. Die Ergebnisse der Regressionsanalyse zeigen, dass CFOs, im Vergleich zu CEOs, einen ökonomisch bedeut-sameren inkrementellen Einfluss haben. Der größere Einfluss des CFOs ist bei betrügerischer Falschberichterstattung noch stärker ausgeprägt. Die Ergebnisse bleiben konsistent, wenn verschiedene Stichproben analysiert, verschiedene Analysemethoden herangezogen und ver-schieden Operationalisierungen für das Konstrukt Falschberichterstattung verwendete werden. Insgesamt deuten die Ergebnisse darauf hin, dass CFOs eine zentrale Rolle bei Verstößen gegen Rechnungslegungsgrundsätze zukommt. Die dritte Studie wirft einen genaueren Blick auf den Zusammenhang zwischen Anreizen aus aktienbasierter Vergütung und Rechnungsle-gungspraktiken. Der Literaturüberblick zeigt große Unterschiede bei der Operationalisierung von Firmengröße als Standardkontrollvariable, Anreizen aus aktienbasierter Vergütung als zentrale erklärenden Variable und der zu untersuchenden Rechnungslegungspraktik. Die Er-gebnisse der Regressionsanalyse zeigen, dass sich diese Unterschiede stark auf die empiri-schen Ergebnisse auswirken können, wobei die daraus resultierenden Veränderungen der t-Werte oftmals typische Grenzwerte für statistische Signifikanz übersteigen. With regard to a proposed model of five academic competencies(time management, learning skills, technology proficiency, self-monitoring, and research skills), incoming students’ perceptions concerning academic staff support and students’ selfreported confidence at a German university were examined. Using quantitative data, an initial exploratory study was conducted (N = 155), which revealed first-year students’ perceptions of the role of academic staff in supporting their development, especially in research skills, as well as low self-reported confidence in this competence. Thus, a follow up study (N = 717) was conducted to confirm these findings as well as to provide an indepth understanding of research skills. Understanding students’ perceptions is crucial if higher education institutions are to meet students’ needs and provide adequate support services in the challenging first year. It devolves hierarchical controlled relationships and distributes decision-making among many actors. Positive consequences include using local competencies and fast on-site action without (time-)consuming cross-process planning run by a central control instance. Evaluating the decentralization of the process helps to compare different control strategies and thus contributes to the mastery of more complex production processes. Although the importance of the communication structure of these actors increases, no method uses this as a basis for operationalizing decentralization. This motivates the focus of this thesis. It develops a three-level evaluation model determining the decentralization of a production process based on two determinants: the communication and decision-making structure of the autonomous actors involved. Based on a definition of decentralization of production processes, it set requirements for a key value that determines the structural autonomy of the actors and selects a suitable social network analysis metric. The possibility of integrated decision-making and decision execution justifies the additional consideration of the decision structure. The differentiation of both factors forms the basis for the classification of actors; the multiplication of both values results in the characteristic value real autonomy describing the autonomy of an actor, which is the key figure of the model's first level. Homogeneous actor autonomy characterizes a high decentralization of the process step, which is the object of consideration of the second level of the model. Comparing the existing with the maximum possible decentralization of the process steps determines the Autonomy Index. This figure operationalizes the decentralization of the process at the third level of the model. A simulation study with two simulation experiments - a central and a decentral controlled process - at Zentrum Industrie 4.0 validates the evaluation model. The application of the model to an industrial production process underlines the practical applicability. Aufbauend auf einer Definition von Dezentralität von Produktionsprozessen werden Anforderungen an eine Kennzahl erhoben und - auf Basis der Kommunikationsstruktur - eine die strukturelle Autonomie der Akteure bestimmenden Kenngröße der sozialen Netzwerkanalyse ermittelt. Die Notwendigkeit der zusätzlichen Berücksichtigung der Entscheidungsstruktur wird basierend auf der Möglichkeit der Integration von Entscheidungsfindung und -ausführung begründet. Die Differenzierung beider Faktoren bildet die Grundlage für die Klassifikation der Akteure; die Multiplikation beider Werte resultiert in dem die Autonomie eines Akteurs beschreibenden Kennwert tatsächliche Autonomie, welcher das Ergebnis der ersten Stufe des Modells darstellt. Homogene Akteurswerte charakterisieren eine hohe Dezentralität des Prozessschrittes, welcher Betrachtungsobjekt der zweiten Stufe ist. Based on a means-end chain approach, this study investigates consumer cognitive decision-making structures related to six distinct options for economically (non-)sustainable consumption. Whereas saving motives, waste concerns, and avoidance motivations support economically sustainable decisions, economically non-sustainable decision-making is directly linked to attaining overall life goals. By clustering respondents based on the elicited means-end chains, the study discloses four consumer groups with distinctive motivational structures. The study also reveals several obstacles to promoting economic sustainability, indicates methods to overcome such obstacles, and suggests avenues for future research. It has been largely ignored that individuals are driven by different motivational mechanisms to join boycotts and buycotts (punishment vs. reward of corporate behaviors), and thus, these mechanisms have disparate implications for the participating individual (e.g., high vs. low subjective costs because of a restriction in consumption habits). This paper fills this void and develops a framework suggesting that the extent to which consumers translate their concerns and obligations for society into a willingness to boycott and/or buycott is bounded by self-interest. Using a unique, representative sample of 1833 German consumers, this study reveals that the effects of environmental concerns and universalism on buycotting are amplified by hedonism, while the effects of social concern on buycotting and boycotting are attenuated by hedonism and simplicity, respectively. For this purpose, we exploit variation in the regional treatment intensity, assuming that the stronger a minimum wage ‘bites’ into the regional wage distribution, the stronger the regional labour market will be affected. In contrast to previous studies, we construct two regional bite indicators based upon detailed individual wage data from the Structure of Earnings Survey (SES) 2014 and combine it with administrative information on regional employment. Moreover, using the Socio-Economic Panel (SOEP), we are able to affirm the absence of anticipation effects and verify the assumption of a common trend in wages before the reform. In sum, we find only moderate negative effects on overall employment of about 140,000 (0.4%) jobs, which are mainly driven by a sharp decline of marginal employment (‘mini-jobs’), while we do not find pronounced significant effects for regular employment in most specifications. Our results are robust to a variety of sensitivity tests. It contrasts the neoclassical equilibrium notions of market and government failure with the dominant evolutionary neo-Schumpeterian and Austrian-Hayekian perceptions. Based on this comparison, the paper criticizes the fact that neoclassical reasoning still prevails in non-equilibrium evolutionary economics when economic policy issues are examined. This is more than surprising, since proponents of evolutionary economics usually view their approach as incompatible with its neoclassical counterpart. In addition, it is shown that this "fallacy of failure thinking" even finds its continuation in the alternative concept of "system failure" with which some evolutionary economists try to explain and legitimate policy interventions in local, regional or national innovation systems. The paper argues that in order to prevent the otherwise fruitful and more realistic evolutionary approach from undermining its own criticism of neoclassical economics and to create a consistent as well as objective evolutionary policy framework, it is necessary to eliminate the equilibrium spirit. Gleichzeitig impliziert er eine entscheidende Rolle von Performance Informationen. Die vorliegende Dissertation rückt das neuralgische Element Performance Information ins Zentrum des Forschungsinteresses, genauer die Verwendung von Kennzahlen. Ausgangspunkt bildet die wissenschaftliche Beobachtung, dass Kennzahlen nicht immer und automatisch in der vom theoretischen Standpunkt aus erforderlichen und prognostizierten Art und Weise genutzt werden. Eine schlechte Implementierung des Managementansatzes oder Fehler im theoretischen Fundament sind mögliche Erklärungsansätze. Im Zuge der Analyse des Forschungsstandes ist offenkundig geworden, dass Erklärungen vor allem im organisationalen Setting und in Performance Management bezogenen Faktoren gesucht werden; ein Kennzeichen für eine eher technokratische und implementationsbezogene Perspektive auf die Verwendungsproblematik. Die aus neurowissenschaftlicher Sicht wichtige intrapersonale Ebene spielt eine ungeordnete Rolle. In Anbetracht dessen ist auf der Grundlage neurowissenschaftlicher Erkenntnisse im Rahmen einer empirischen Untersuchung die Wirkung erfahrungsbezogener Variablen auf das Verwendungsverhalten untersucht worden. Dabei ist analysiert worden, wie Erfahrungen auf organisationaler Ebene entstehen und wie sie im Detail auf das Nutzungsverhalten wirken. Als Forschungsobjekt sind polizeiliche Führungskräfte herangezogen worden. Die Daten sind Ende 2016/Anfang 2017 online-basiert erhoben worden. Im Ergebnis der Datenauswertung und Diskussion der Befunde sind folgende Erkenntnisse hervorzuheben: (1) Erfahrungen beeinflussen die Verwendung von Performance Informationen. Die Art der Erfahrung mit Kennzahlen bildet dabei eine Mediatorvariable. Vor allem organisationale Faktoren, wie der Reifegrad des Performance Management Systems, wirken über den Faktor Erfahrung auf das Verwendungsverhalten. (2) Erwähnenswert ist zudem, dass die Auseinandersetzung mit Kennzahlen sowohl den Erfahrungsschatz als auch die Nutzung von Kennzahlen positiv beeinflusst. Insgesamt haben sich die neurowissenschaftlich inspirierten Variablen als vielversprechende Erklärungsfaktoren herausgestellt. (3) Des Weiteren hat die Arbeit bestehende Befunde abgesichert, v. a. die Wirkung des erwähnten Reifegrads. Allerdings sind auch Unterschiede aufgetreten. So büßt zum Beispiel der transformationale Führungsstil i. V. m. Art der Erfahrung seine positive Wirkung auf die Kennzahlennutzung ein. (4) Interessant sind zudem die Ergebnisse des Labor- und Quasiexperiments. Erstmalig sind nicht zweckorientierte Verwendungsarten experimentell beobachtbar. Zudem sind neuro- und verhaltensökonomische Erklärungsansätze identifiziert und diskutiert worden, die eine Bereicherung des Forschungsdiskurses darstellen. Sie bieten eine neue Perspektive hinsichtlich des Verwendungsverhaltens und liefern Impulse für die weitere Forschung. Für das New Public Management, in dessen Werkzeugkasten dieser Managementansatz eine Schlüsselrolle einnimmt, wiegen die Forschungsbefunde schwer. Ohne ein funktionierendes Performance Management kann das wichtige Reformziel „Wirkungsorientierung“ nicht erreicht werden. Das NPM läuft damit Gefahr, selbst Dysfunktionen zu entwickeln. Insgesamt scheint es geboten, in der Auseinandersetzung mit Managementsystemen einen stärkeren Fokus auf intrapersonale Faktoren zu legen. Auch Verhaltensanomalien im Kontext von Management und deren Implikationen sollten näher untersucht werden. Es zeigt sich ferner, dass eine rein technokratische Sichtweise auf das Performance Management nicht zielführend ist. Folglich ist das Performance Management theoretisch wie konzeptionell fortzuentwickeln. Die Forschungsarbeit liefert somit wichtige neue Erkenntnisse zur Verwendung von Performance Informationen und zum Verständnis von Performance Management. Vor allem erweitert sie den Forschungsdiskurs, da sie die Erklärungskraft intrapersonaler Faktoren aufgezeigt hat sowie methodisch mit dem Mixed-Method-Ansatz (Multimethod-Studie) und theoretisch mittels der Neuro- und Verhaltensökonomie neue Perspektiven hinsichtlich der Verwendungsproblematik eröffnet. N2 - „If you can’t measure it, you can’t manage it.“ This slogan, which is said to go back to Peter Drucker, Henry Deming or Robert Kaplan and David Norton, among others, is an expression of a deep conviction in the necessity and benefit of performance management – an approach that has also influenced and shaped public administration. At the same time this approach implies a crucial role to performance information. This dissertation focuses on the neuralgic element performance information, particularly the use of key performance indicators. Starting point is the scientific observation that key figures are not always and automatically used in the required way and as predicted from a theoretical point of view. Poor implementation of the management approach or errors in the theoretical basis are possible explanations. During the analysis of the state of research it has become obvious that explanations are mainly sought in the organizational setting and in performance management related factors; a characteristic of a rather technocratic and implementation related perspective on the problem of performance information use. The intrapersonal level, which is important from a neuroscientific perspective, plays only a minor part. Considering this the impact of experience-based variables on the use of performance information has been examined based on neuroscientific findings within an empirical study. In this process it has been analysed how experiences occur on organisational level and how they influence the use of performance information in detail. Police Leaders have been used as research object. The data have been collected online at the end of 2016/ at the beginning of 2017. In the result of the analysis of the collected data and the discussion of the findings the following findings should be highlighted: (1) Experience influences the use of performance information. The nature of the experience with performance indicators is a mediator variable. Especially organisational factors, such as the maturity of the performance management system, influence the use via experience. (2) It is also worth mentioning that the engagement with key figures fosters both the experience with these metrics and their use. Overall, the neuroscience-inspired variables emerged as promising factors. (3) Furthermore, the study has corroborated existing findings, especially the effect of the mentioned maturity of the performance management system. However, differences have also emerged. For example, the promising factor transformational leadership style loses its positive effect on the use of performance information when experience is incorporated. (4) The results of the laboratory and quasi-experiment are also interesting. For the first time non-purposeful uses of performance indicators have been experimentally observable. In addition, neuro- and behavioural-economic explanations have been identified and discussed, which represents an enrichment of the research discourse. They offer an new perspective on the use of performance information and provide input for further research. For New Public Management, in whose toolbox performance management plays a key role, the research findings weigh heavily. Without a functioning performance management, the import goal of “impact/outcome orientation” cannot be achieved. The NPM thus runs the risk of developing dysfunctions itself. Overal, it seems necessary to focus more on intrapersonal factors when dealing with management systems. Behavioural anomalies in the context of management and their implications should also be examined more closely. It further emerges that a purely technocratic view of performance management is not effective. Consequently, performance management needs to be further developed both theoretically and conceptually. The research thus provides important insights into the use of performance information and the understanding of performance management. Above all, it expands the research discourse, as it has shown the explanatory power of intrapersonal factors and methodologically with the mixed-method approach (multi-method study) and theoretically by means of neuro- and behavioural economics opens up new perspectives with regard to the problem of use. The outcome of these negotiations relies heavily on the companies’ as well as the negotiators’ power position. Across three empirical articles the author demonstrates how the own power position can first be identified as well as improved and subsequently used to maximize profits in negotiations between sellers and buyers. In the first paper the sources underlying buyer and supplier power are identified and weighted. The results of the first paper show the impact of each single sources on the buyer and supplier power. The number of suppliers available for one product is by far the most important source of power for both sides. The results indicate that a higher number of suppliers leads to a better power position of the buyer and simultaneously to an inferior power position of a single supplier. The second paper aims to examine the impact of the number of suppliers on the outcome of buyer-seller-negotiations thereby considering the innovation level of the products purchased. The results of the second study which are based on real negotiation data from a German car manufacturer indicate that the number of available suppliers has a stronger impact on the negotiation outcome for innovative than for functional, less innovative products. The third paper analyzes how the ability to take the counterpart’s perspective (perspective taking ability) influences the negotiation outcome. This relationship is examined for different power positions. The results indicate that a negotiator’s high perspective taking ability leads to a more unfavorable negotiation outcome compared to low perspective taking ability. Simultaneously, high perspective taking ability causes a more positive perception of the conducted negotiation than low perspective taking ability. This contradictory effect of perspective taking ability bears the risk for buyers and suppliers to assess an unfavorable outcome as positive. Finally, the results of the papers are summarized and discussed. The dissertation concludes with implications for practice, limitations of the work, and approaches for future research. N2 - Verhandlungen zwischen Einkäufern und Zulieferern haben einen unmittelbaren Einfluss auf die Kosten und den Umsatz eines Unternehmens und sind dementsprechend ein wichtiger Faktor für deren Gewinn. Das Ergebnis dieser Verhandlungen hängt maßgeblich von der Machtposition der Unternehmen und damit auch der Verhandler ab. In dieser Studie wird in den drei empirischen Artikeln gezeigt, wie die Machtposition zunächst identifiziert sowie verbessert und anschließend gewinnmaximierend in Verhandlungen zwischen Verkäufern und Einkäufern eingesetzt werden kann. Im ersten Paper werden die der Macht von Einkäufern und Lieferanten zu Grunde liegenden Ursachen identifiziert und gewichtet. Die Ergebnisse des ersten Papers zeigen, wie stark die einzelnen identifizierten Faktoren die Macht des Einkäufers und des Vertriebs beeinflussen. Die Anzahl der für ein Produkt zur Verfügung stehenden Lieferanten ist für beide Seiten die mit Abstand wichtigste Ursache für Macht. Es wird herausgestellt, dass eine höhere Anzahl an Lieferanten zu einer besseren Machtposition des Einkäufers und gleichzeitig zu einer schlechteren Machtposition des Verkäufers führt. Das Ziel des zweiten Papers ist es, den Einfluss der Anzahl der Lieferanten auf das Ergebnis von Verhandlungen zwischen Einkäufern und Verkäufern zu untersuchen. Dabei werden die verschiedenen Innovationsgrade der zu beschaffenden Produkte berücksichtigt. Auf Basis realer Verhandlungsdaten eines deutschen Automobilerstellers wird gezeigt, dass die Anzahl der für ein Produkt zur Verfügung stehenden Lieferanten bei innovativen Produkten einen stärkeren Einfluss auf das Verhandlungsergebnis hat als bei funktionalen, weniger innovativen Produkten. Das dritte Paper ermittelt, wie die Fähigkeit, die Perspektive der Gegenseite einzunehmen (Perspective Taking Ability) das Verhandlungsergebnis beeinflusst. Dieser Zusammenhang wird für verschiedene Machtpositionen untersucht. Die Ergebnisse lassen darauf schließen, dass hohe Perspective Taking Ability eines Verhandlungsführerenden in der besseren Machtposition zu einem schlechteren Ergebnis führt als niedrige Perspective Taking Ability. Gleichzeitig führt eine hohe Ausprägung der Fähigkeit zu einer positiveren Wahrnehmung der geführten Verhandlung als eine niedrige Ausprägung. Dieser gegensätzliche Effekt von Perspective Taking Ability birgt für Einkäufer und Verkäufer in einer überlegenen Machtposition das Risiko, ein schlechteres Verhandlungsergebnis positiv zu bewerten. Such tracking invades user privacy in that email tracking techniques gather data without user consent or awareness. Striving to increase privacy in email communication, this paper develops a detection engine to be the core of a selective tracking blocking mechanism in the form of three contributions. First, a large collection of email newsletters is analyzed to show the wide usage of tracking over different countries, industries and time. Second, we propose a set of features geared towards the identification of tracking images under real-world conditions. Novel features are devised to be computationally feasible and efficient, generalizable and resilient towards changes in tracking infrastructure. Third, we test the predictive power of these features in a benchmarking experiment using a selection of state-of-the-art classifiers to clarify the effectiveness of model-based tracking identification. Based on Karl Menger’s diaries and correspondence, the present paper considers the development and struggles of the young Karl Menger, focusing on the years 1919–23, when Vienna was a vanquished city. We discuss the various relations within the Menger family and their significance for Karl Menger’s intellectual development. Additionally, we consider his acquaintances with economists such as Knut Wicksell, David Davidson, and Eli Heckscher as well as the younger Menger’s work in economics. In the European Union, there has been a latest trend of initiatives aiming for combating illegal content online under the self-regulatory regime. Yet, concerns of this trend were that transparency cannot be ensured properly to safeguard the freedom of expression, and that the private intermediaries are not able to carry out effective regulation under the non-binding regulatory process. Due to these issues, Germany has legislated the Network Enforcement Act in 2017. This thesis used Mixed Methods within a Case Study Research, in order to identify the PPP type of the NetzDG, and to understand its link on transparency and effectiveness, as well as the relationship of these two dimensions. By taking an Exploratory Sequential Design, the German internet content regulation under the NetzDG was explored to understand its co-regulatory regime and to develop an instrument to measure the aspects of transparency and effectiveness. Then, the three big social media platforms, YouTube, Twitter, and Facebook, were examined according to the developed indicators. This thesis concluded as follow: First, the enactment of the NetzDG brought the shift of the regulatory paradigm from the self-regulatory to the co-regulatory. Yet, the actor-inclusive institutional arrangement of the NetzDG did not successfully result in the actual inclusion of actors in decision-making, but only improved the result transparency in the disclosure of take-down actions. Second, the level of effective regulation was not consistent across the three social media platforms under this regime. Despite these limitations, this study showed that the transparency and the effectiveness of the social media platforms’ implementation gradually improved together, instead of having a negative correlation to one another. N2 - Diese Masterarbeit untersucht die Regulierung von Internetinhalten in Deutschland aus der Sicht von Public-Private Partnerships. In der Europäischen Union hat es in letzter Zeit einen Trend zu Initiativen zur Bekämpfung illegaler Internetinhalte im Rahmen der Selbstregulierung gegeben. Jedoch besteht die Sorge, dass weder Transparenz richtig gewährleistet werden kann, um die Meinungsfreiheit zu schützen, noch dass es für Social Media Plattformen nicht möglich ist, die Regulierungen in einem unverbindlichen Selbstregulierungssystems effektiv durchzusetzen. Aufgrund dieser Probleme verabschiedete Deutschland 2017 das Netzwerkdurchsetzungsgesetz (NetzDG). Diese Masterarbeit nutzt einen Mixed Methods-Ansatz im Rahmen einer Fallstudie, um die Art von Public-Private Partnerships des NetzDG zu bestimmen und um ihre Verbindung zu Transparenz und Effektivität sowie deren Beziehung untereinander zu verstehen. Durch ein exploratives sequentielles Forschungsdesign wurde die deutsche Regulierung von Internetinhalten unter dem NetzDG untersucht, um das ko-regulierende System zu verstehen und um Instrumente zur Messung von Transparenz- und Effektivitätsaspekten zu entwickeln. Dabei wurden die drei großen Social Media Plattformen (YouTube, Twitter und Facebook) in Bezug auf die entwickelten Indikatoren analysiert. Basierend auf den Ergebnissen kommt diese Masterarbeit zu folgenden Schlüssen: Erstens, brachte das Inkrafttreten des NetzDGs einen Wandel des Regulierungsregimes von der Selbstregulierung zur Ko-Regulierung. Die akteurs-übergreifende institutionelle Ausgestaltung des NetzDG führte zwar zu keiner tatsächlichen Einbeziehung der Akteure in die Entscheidungsfindung, sondern hat lediglich die Ergebnistransparenz bei der Offenlegung von Take-down Handlungen verbessert. The research field is, therefore, complex and scattered. Conducting a bibliometric analysis, we aim at structuring the field quantitatively and rather abstractly. We employed citation analyses, co-citation analyses, and content analyses to evaluate productivity and impact of extant research. However, consuming social information on SNSs invites social upward comparisons with highly socially desirable profile representations, which easily elicits envy in users and leads to unfavorable behaviors on SNSs. This in turn can erode the subjective well-being of users and the sustainability of the SNS platform. Therefore, this paper seeks to develop a better theoretical understanding of how users respond to envy on SNSs. We review literature on envy in offline interactions to derive three behavioral strategies to reduce envy, which we then transfer to the SNS context (self-enhancement, gossiping, and discontinuous intention). Further, we propose a research model and examine how culture, specifically individualism-collectivism, affects the relationship between envy on an SNS and the three strategies. We empirically test the variance-based structural equation model through survey data collected of Facebook users from Germany and Hong Kong. Our findings provide first insights into the link between envy on SNSs, related behavioral strategies and the moderating role of individualism for self-enhancement. Das Nachhaltigkeitsbewusstsein wurde dabei basierend auf dem von Balderjahn et al. (2013) entwickelten Consciousness-for-sustainable-consumption-Modell durch die ökologische, soziale und die ökonomische Nachhaltigkeit sowie ergänzend durch das Tierschutzbewusstsein und Bewusstsein für lokale Produktion repräsentiert. Als Moderatoren dienten das Streben nach sozialer Anerkennung und Prestige, Materialismus, Hedonismus und Traditionsbewusstsein. Für die Aufdeckung möglicher Zusammenhänge zwischen den verschiedenen Dimensionen der Nachhaltigkeit und Luxuskonsum wurde eine Prädiktorenanalyse durchgeführt. Moderatorenanalysen offenbarten zusätzlich, ob ein Einfluss der verschiedenen Moderatoren auf die einzelnen Zusammenhänge vorlag. Die Untersuchung zeigte, dass jeweils das Umweltbewusstsein, das Bewusstsein für genügsamen Konsum sowie das Bewusstsein für schuldenfreien Konsum als Teil der ökonomischen Nachhaltigkeit und das Tierschutzbewusstsein einen Einfluss auf den Luxuskonsum ausüben. N2 - This dissertation examines the activity of knowledge sharing by public employees in the workplace. Building on the Rubicon model of human behavior formation, I use a threefold approach to analyze the knowledge-sharing process: public employees’ motivation to share knowledge, their intention to share, and knowledge sharing behavior as such. The first article maps the knowledge-sharing behavior of public employees. It builds a typology of behavioral patterns and shows that public employees mainly share their knowledge responsively and directly with a knowledge receiver rather than an information medium. The second article elaborates on the construct of knowledge-sharing motivation and develops a scale to measure this kind of work motivation in a selective and domain-specific way. Data from three studies indicate three dimensions of knowledge-sharing motivation, namely appreciation, growth and altruism, and tangible rewards. Based on these dimensions, the third article analyzes whether the satisfaction of public employees’ underlying needs can foster ther knowledge-sharing intention. The study indicates that both tested treatments (appreciation by co-workers, benefits in a performance appraisal) positively affect knowledge-sharing intention if it is explicit knowledge that ought to be shared. However, no effects of either treatment can be found if implicit knowledge is shared. Hence, to foster sharing of explicit knowledge, the analyzed motivation-enhancing rewards can be used in public management practice. To enhance implicit knowledge sharing, ability- and opportunity-enhancing management instruments are discussed. All in all, this dissertation integrates a micro-level perspective on human knowledge sharing into a meso-level perspective on organizational knowledge management. It adds to the literature on workplace behaviors of public employees and knowledge management and aims to incorporate knowledge sharing and management into the public administration and management literature. N2 - Diese Dissertation beschäftigt sich mit der Wissensteilung von Mitarbeiter*innen der öffentlichen Verwaltung am Arbeitsplatz. Basierend auf dem Rubikon-Modell der menschlichen Verhaltensformierung nutze ich einen dreiteiligen Ansatz zur Analyse des Prozesses der Wissensteilung: die Motivation von Verwaltungsmitarbeiter*innen ihr Wissen zu teilen, ihre Intention zu teilen und das eigentliche Wissensteilverhalten. Der erste Artikel kartiert Wissensteilverhalten von Verwaltungsmitarbeiter*innen. Er erstellt eine Typologie von Verhaltensweisen und zeigt, dass Wissen vor allem auf Nachfrage und direkt mit Wissensnehmer*innen geteilt wird statt mit einem Trägermedium. Der zweite Artikel bearbeitet das Konstrukt der ‚Motivation Wissen zu teilen‘ und entwickelt eine Skala zur Messung dieser Art von Arbeitsmotivation, die bereichspezifisch ist und sich von Verhalten abgrenzt. Die Erhebungen zeigen drei Dimensionen der Motivation Wissen zu teilen auf: Anerkennung, Entwicklung und Altruismus, und materielle Belohnung. Auf Basis dieser Dimensionen, analysiert der dritte Artikel ob die Befriedigung der zugrundeliegenden Bedürfnisse die Intention von Verwaltungsmitarbeiter*innen Wissen zu teilen fördert. Beide getesteten Interventionen (kollegiale Anerkennung, Vorteil in Leistungsbewertung) erhöhen die Intention zu teilen wenn explizites Wissen geteilt werden soll. Soll implizites Wissen geteilt werden, zeigen beide Interventionen keine Effekte. Daher können die getesteten motivationsstärkenden Anreize genutzt werden um explizite Wissensteilung zu fördern. Zur Erhöhung impliziter Wissensteilung werden Managementinstrumente diskutiert, die individuelle Fähigkeiten stärken und Gelegenheiten zur Wissensteilung erhöhen. Dabei mangelt es der Krankenhauslandschaft an ärztlichem Personal. Es fehlt insbesondere an Arztstunden bei zugleich steigendem Bedarf an medizinischen Leistungen. Der demografische Wandel, Abwanderung ins Ausland (z. B. in die Schweiz) und Extrapolationen wie Feminisierung des Arztberufs und der Wertewandel respektive Generationenforschung begünstigen diese Entwicklung. Zudem wird der Arbeitsplatz Krankenhaus zunehmend als unattraktiv von zukünftigen Arbeitnehmerkohorten angesehen. Nachwuchsärzte entscheiden sich bereits im Studium vermehrt gegen die kurative Medizin beziehungsweise gegen eine medizinisch-klinische Tätigkeit. Ein virulentes Beschaffungsproblem zeichnet sich ab, das es zu lösen gilt. Das Forschungsziel ist die Entwicklung eines ganzheitlichen strategischen Lösungsansatzes mit marktorientierter Akzentuierung für den Arbeitgeber Krankenhaus. Dabei wird das Krankenhaus als wissens- und kompetenzintensive Dienstleistungsorganisation definiert. Employer Branding stellt den Bezugsrahmen eines marktorientierten Personalmanagements dar. Ein forschungstheoretischer Unterbau wird durch strategische Managementansätze integriert. Employer Branding schlägt die Brücke vom Market-based View zum Competence-based View und ist Markenmanagement im Kontext des strategischen Personalmanagements. In der vorliegenden Arbeit wird ein holistischer Bezugsrahmen vorgestellt, der die Wirkungszusammenhänge respektive Employer Branding darstellt. Das Herzstück ist die Employer Value Proposition, die auf der Markenidentität der Organisation basiert. Ziel des Employer Branding Ansatzes ist es, unter anderem eine präferenzerzeugende Wirkung im Prozess der Arbeitsplatzwahl sicherzustellen. Die Zielrichtung und die Erkenntnis-Interessen erfordern einen breit angelegten Forschungsansatz, der qualitative und quantitative Methoden kombiniert. Ziel der leitfadengesteuerten Tiefeninterviews (exploratives Studiendesign) ist es, bestehende und noch zu entwickelnde Kompetenzstärken der Krankenhausorganisationen zu identifizieren. Bei der Stichprobe handelt es sich um ein „Typical Case Sampling“ (N=12). Defizitäre Befunde, welche Werte und Attraktivitätsfaktoren bei angehenden Ärzten ausgeprägt sind, werden bestätigt. In der Krankenhauslandschaft wird eine fragmentarische und reaktive Herangehensweise identifiziert, die die erfolgreiche Rekrutierung von qualifiziertem Krankenhauspersonal erschwert. Durch die qualitative Marktforschung werden Anforderungen des Marktes – also zukünftiges, ärztliches Krankenhauspersonal – auf faktorenanalytischer Basis analysiert. Die Stichprobe (N=475) ist isomorph. Dabei wird der Prozess der Einstellungsbildung in das neobehavioristische Erklärungsmodell des Käuferverhaltens eingeordnet. Die Vereinbarkeit von Beruf, Karriere und Familie sowie die betriebliche Kinderbetreuung werden als Schlüsselkomponenten erkannt. Wichtigste Arbeitswerte in Bezug auf einen attraktiven Arbeitgeber sind Verlässlichkeit, Verantwortung und Respekt. Diese Komponenten haben kommunikativen Nutzen und Differenzierungskraft. Schließlich bewerten Bewerber ein Krankenhaus positiver im Prozess der Arbeitsplatzwahl, je mehr die Werte des potentiellen Arbeitnehmers mit dem Werteprofil der Person übereinstimmen (Person-Organisation Fit). Krankenhausorganisationen, die den Employer Branding Ansatz implementieren und als Chance zur Definition ihrer Stärken, ihrer Vorzüge und ihres Leistungsangebots als Arbeitgeber annehmen, rüsten sich für das verstärkte Werben um Jungmediziner. This is why organizations generally endeavor to increase their negotiation performance. Over the last decades, besides other factors, research found goal setting to be one of the best predictor of negotiation outcomes. Given the extent and complexity of multi-issue business negotiations, profit optimizing by means of improving a company’s goal setting has a great deal of potential. However, developing goal setting strategies before the actual negotiation is still rather uncommon in business practice. In order to provide professionals with empirical guidance, this work aims at investigating three steps for the development and effective management of goal setting strategies for business negotiations. Therefore, this dissertation contains three papers, each one dealing with one specific step. The first paper explores the characterization of social and economic outcomes in different business relationship types at the beginning of the relationship and the development of these outcomes toward the actual status quo. The second paper takes the number of goals into account for goal setting strategies. This paper uses the two dimensions goal scope and goal difficulty to investigate the relevance and potentials of combining different level of these dimensions in multi-issue negotiations. Therefore, a large experiment was conducted measuring the impact on individual and joint negotiation outcomes, and the impasse rate. The third paper analyzes the type and orientation of negotiation goals. When the set of negotiation issues has an integrative potential, the opportunity to increase the joint gains arises. To what extent negotiators pursue the integrative potential depends largely on their goal orientation. A quantitative analysis with practitioners was used to examine the influence that business negotiations’ situative and organizational factors have on the negotiators’ goal orientation. The dissertation closes with implications for practice, limitations of the work, and ideas for future research. N2 - Verhandlungen sind zu einem zentralen Aspekt des Managements geworden und haben einen maßgeblichen Einfluss auf den Gewinn eines Unternehmens. Aus diesem Grund sind Organisationen fortwährend bestrebt, ihre Verhandlungsperformance zu verbessern. In der Verhandlungsforschung hat sich in den letzten Jahrzehnten herauskristallisiert, dass das richtige Setzen von Zielen einer der besten Prädiktoren für den Verhandlungserfolg ist. Angesichts des Umfangs und der Komplexität von Geschäftsverhandlungen hat daher insbesondere die Optimierung von Verhandlungszielen großes Potenzial für Unternehmen. Die Entwicklung von Zielsetzungsstrategien für eine Verhandlung ist in der Geschäftspraxis jedoch noch recht wenig verbreitet. Um Verhandlungsexperten durch empirische Erkenntnisse bei der Entwicklung und dem effektiven Management von Zielsetzungsstrategien für Geschäftsverhandlungen zu unterstützen, enthält diese Dissertation drei empirische Studien, die die drei wichtigsten Schritte zur Behebung dieses Defizits darstellen. Die erste Studie vergleicht die Ausprägungen von sozialen und wirtschaftlichen Verhandlungsgewinne in verschiedenen Geschäftsbeziehungstypen zu Beginn der Geschäftsbeziehung und analysiert deren Entwicklung bis zum aktuellen Status Quo. In der zweiten Studie wird die Anzahl der Verhandlungsziele, die für eine optimale Zielsetzungsstrategie in Verhandlungen mit mehreren unterschiedlichen Verhandlungsgegenständen berücksichtigt werden sollten, in den Fokus gerückt. In dieser Studie werden die beiden Dimensionen Zielumfang und Zielschwierigkeit in verschiedenen Ausprägungen kombiniert, um die sinnvollste Kombination für Verhandlungen mit mehreren unterschiedlichen Verhandlungsgegenständen zu finden. Es wird ein umfassendes Verhandlungsexperiment unter Studierenden durchgeführt und die Auswirkungen auf den individuellen und den gemeinsamen Verhandlungsgewinn und die Abbruchrate der Verhandlungen gemessen. Im letzten Schritt analysiert die dritte Studie die Art und Ausrichtung der Verhandlungsziele. Wenn die Zusammensetzung der Verhandlungsgegenstände ein integratives Potenzial birgt, ergibt sich die Möglichkeit, die gemeinsamen Gewinne beider Verhandlungsparteien zu erhöhen. Inwieweit die Verhandlungsführer dieses integrative Potenzial ausschöpfen, hängt weitgehend von ihrer Zielausrichtung ab. Eine quantitative Studie unter Praktikern wurde verwendet, um den Einfluss zu untersuchen, den situativ-organisationale Faktoren einer Geschäftsverhandlung auf die Zielausrichtung der Verhandlungsführer haben. Die Erkenntnisse dieser drei Studien zusammenfassend, schließt die Dissertation mit Implikationen für die Praxis, Limitationen der Ergebnisse und Ideen für die zukünftige Forschung. The paper employs an affordance-based view that allows for the identification and structuring of hidden, emergent attributes of the scenario technique beyond the intended ones. The suggested framework distinguishes between affordances (1) that are intended by the organization and relate to its goals, (2) that emergently generate organizational benefits, and (3) that do not relate to organizational but individual interests. Also, constraints in the use of scenarios are discussed. Affordance theory’s specific lens shows that the emergence of such attributes depends on the users’ specific intentions.
