N2  - Earth observation data have become an outstanding basis for analyzing environmental
aspects. The increasing availability of remote sensing data is accompanied
by an increasing user demand. Within the scope of the COOPERNICUS-initiative,
the automatic processing of remote sensing data is important for supplying value-
added-information products. The use of additional data like land-water-masks
in the context of deriving value-added information products can stabilize and
improve the product quality of information products.
The authors of this contribution would like to discuss different automated
processing algorithms which are based on land-water masks for value-added
data interpretation. These developments were supported or accompanied by Prof.
Hartmut Asche.

N2  - Hartmut Asche prägte über ein Vierteljahrhundert maßgeblich die Forschungsfelder der Geoinformation, Visualisierung und Kartographie. Die vorliegende Festschrift stellt eine würdige Gabe von Mitarbeiterinnen und Mitarbeitern des Institutes für Geographie der Universität Potsdam anlässlich seiner Emeritierung im März 2017 dar.  International renommierte, Herrn Asches Karriere begleitende Autorinnen und Autoren, konnten für Fachbeiträge aus den Bereichen Geographie, Geoinformatik, Kartographie und Fernerkundung gewonnen werden. Es werden in fachlich hervorragender Weise Schwerpunkte umrissen, mit welchen Herr Asche sich in seiner von zahlreichen Höhepunkten geprägten wissenschaftlichen Karriere beschäftigte.
N2  - For more than a quarter of a century, Hartmut Asche has significantly influenced the research fields of geoinformation, visualisation, and cartography. This book represents a gift from the staff of the Institute of Geography of the University of Potsdam on the occasion of his retirement in March 2017. Internationally renowned researchers who accompanied Mr Asche’s career have contributed to the Festschrift. Numerous scientific highlights marking Mr Asche’s career are reflected in the authors’ contributions, which deal with research in the disciplines of geography, geoinformatics, cartography, and remote sensing.
