Striving to increase privacy in email communication, this paper develops a detection engine to be the core of a selective tracking blocking mechanism in the form of three contributions. First, a large collection of email newsletters is analyzed to show the wide usage of tracking over different countries, industries and time. Second, we propose a set of features geared towards the identification of tracking images under real-world conditions. Novel features are devised to be computationally feasible and efficient, generalizable and resilient towards changes in tracking infrastructure. Third, we test the predictive power of these features in a benchmarking experiment using a selection of state-of-the-art classifiers to clarify the effectiveness of model-based tracking identification. It contrasts the neoclassical equilibrium notions of market and government failure with the dominant evolutionary neo-Schumpeterian and Austrian-Hayekian perceptions. Based on this comparison, the paper criticizes the fact that neoclassical reasoning still prevails in non-equilibrium evolutionary economics when economic policy issues are examined. This is more than surprising, since proponents of evolutionary economics usually view their approach as incompatible with its neoclassical counterpart. In addition, it is shown that this "fallacy of failure thinking" even finds its continuation in the alternative concept of "system failure" with which some evolutionary economists try to explain and legitimate policy interventions in local, regional or national innovation systems. The paper argues that in order to prevent the otherwise fruitful and more realistic evolutionary approach from undermining its own criticism of neoclassical economics and to create a consistent as well as objective evolutionary policy framework, it is necessary to eliminate the equilibrium spirit. Design/methodology/approach - The authors used two laboratory studies and paired 216 MBA students into single-gender teams of friends and non-friends, and then engaged them in several dyadic multi-issue negotiations. Findings - The results show that on average, male teams of non-friends reached significantly better outcomes than female teams of non-friends. However, and interestingly, female teams of friends perform equally to male teams of friends. Research limitations/implications - The authors contribute both to the negotiations and the workplace friendship literature because very little research has examined negotiation among friends at work and in particular team negotiations. In addition, the authors also contribute to the literature on gender differences in negotiations because existing research has rarely examined the differences between all-male and all-female teams and especially the relationship between same-sex teams and their effects on negotiation outcomes. However, the occurrence of the COVID-19 pandemic raises the question of whether society is going to continue down a path of increased awareness of sustainable consumption or whether the pandemic will move people to focus more on themselves. Based on data gathered before and near the end of the first pandemic lockdown in Germany in spring 2020, this research demonstrates that ecological, social, and voluntary simplicity consciousness deteriorated in the minds of sustainability-conscious consumers, with notable impacts on their willingness to spend sustainably and their shopping affinity. Furthermore, we identify segments that show particular vulnerability to the lockdown by reacting with a decrease in their ecological consumption consciousness. The outcome of these negotiations relies heavily on the companies' as well as the negotiators' power position. Across three empirical articles the author demonstrates how the own power position can first be identified as well as improved and subsequently used to maximize profits in negotiations between sellers and buyers. In the first paper the sources underlying buyer and supplier power are identified and weighted. The results of the first paper show the impact of each single sources on the buyer and supplier power. The number of suppliers available for one product is by far the most important source of power for both sides. The results indicate that a higher number of suppliers leads to a better power position of the buyer and simultaneously to an inferior power position of a single supplier. The second paper aims to examine the impact of the number of suppliers on the outcome of buyer-seller-negotiations thereby considering the innovation level of the products purchased. The results of the second study which are based on real negotiation data from a German car manufacturer indicate that the number of available suppliers has a stronger impact on the negotiation outcome for innovative than for functional, less innovative products. The third paper analyzes how the ability to take the counterpart's perspective (perspective taking ability) influences the negotiation outcome. This relationship is examined for different power positions. The results indicate that a negotiator's high perspective taking ability leads to a more unfavorable negotiation outcome compared to low perspective taking ability. Simultaneously, high perspective taking ability causes a more positive perception of the conducted negotiation than low perspective taking ability. This contradictory effect of perspective taking ability bears the risk for buyers and suppliers to assess an unfavorable outcome as positive. Finally, the results of the papers are summarized and discussed. This constitutes a thus far insufficiently explained tension between effectively reducing reality's complexity and the resulting cognitive biases. Building on cognitive load and framing theory, we qualitatively analysed 103 BM visualisations to explain how visual elements affect visualisations' cognitive effectiveness (helpfulness and ease of applicability) and unfold visual framing effects. By identifying five visual framing effects, we contribute to the cognitive BM perspective and explain how this set of cognitive factors affects BM management and research. We also found that most BM visualisations are not cognitively effective because they consist of unclear and non-parsimonious elements, limiting their cross-contextual application. Furthermore, the analysis revealed certain visualisations with strictly operationalised BM dimensions. These findings provide essential contributions to the literature on BM methods. Dabei wird das Krankenhaus als wissens- und kompetenzintensive Dienstleistungsorganisation definiert. Employer Branding stellt den Bezugsrahmen eines marktorientierten Personalmanagements dar. Ein forschungstheoretischer Unterbau wird durch strategische Managementans{\"a}tze integriert. Employer Branding schl{\"a}gt die Br{\"u}cke vom Market-based View zum Competence-based View und ist Markenmanagement im Kontext des strategischen Personalmanagements. In der vorliegenden Arbeit wird ein holistischer Bezugsrahmen vorgestellt, der die Wirkungszusammenh{\"a}nge respektive Employer Branding darstellt. Das Herzst{\"u}ck ist die Employer Value Proposition, die auf der Markenidentit{\"a}t der Organisation basiert. Ziel des Employer Branding Ansatzes ist es, unter anderem eine pr{\"a}ferenzerzeugende Wirkung im Prozess der Arbeitsplatzwahl sicherzustellen. Die Zielrichtung und die Erkenntnis-Interessen erfordern einen breit angelegten Forschungsansatz, der qualitative und quantitative Methoden kombiniert. Ziel der leitfadengesteuerten Tiefeninterviews (exploratives Studiendesign) ist es, bestehende und noch zu entwickelnde Kompetenzst{\"a}rken der Krankenhausorganisationen zu identifizieren. Bei der Stichprobe handelt es sich um ein „Typical Case Sampling" (N=12). Defizit{\"a}re Befunde, welche Werte und Attraktivit{\"a}tsfaktoren bei angehenden {\"A}rzten ausgepr{\"a}gt sind, werden best{\"a}tigt. In der Krankenhauslandschaft wird eine fragmentarische und reaktive Herangehensweise identifiziert, die die erfolgreiche Rekrutierung von qualifiziertem Krankenhauspersonal erschwert. Durch die qualitative Marktforschung werden Anforderungen des Marktes - also zuk{\"u}nftiges, {\"a}rztliches Krankenhauspersonal - auf faktorenanalytischer Basis analysiert. Die Stichprobe (N=475) ist isomorph. Dabei wird der Prozess der Einstellungsbildung in das neobehavioristische Erkl{\"a}rungsmodell des K{\"a}uferverhaltens eingeordnet. Die Vereinbarkeit von Beruf, Karriere und Familie sowie die betriebliche Kinderbetreuung werden als Schl{\"u}sselkomponenten erkannt. Wichtigste Arbeitswerte in Bezug auf einen attraktiven Arbeitgeber sind Verl{\"a}sslichkeit, Verantwortung und Respekt. Diese Komponenten haben kommunikativen Nutzen und Differenzierungskraft. Schließlich bewerten Bewerber ein Krankenhaus positiver im Prozess der Arbeitsplatzwahl, je mehr die Werte des potentiellen Arbeitnehmers mit dem Werteprofil der Person {\"u}bereinstimmen (Person-Organisation Fit). Krankenhausorganisationen, die den Employer Branding Ansatz implementieren und als Chance zur Definition ihrer St{\"a}rken, ihrer Vorz{\"u}ge und ihres Leistungsangebots als Arbeitgeber annehmen, r{\"u}sten sich f{\"u}r das verst{\"a}rkte Werben um Jungmediziner. Data were collected from public employees in the core administration and healthcare sector (n = 623) in 2018. The analysis indicates that both treatments positively affect knowledge-sharing intention if it is explicit knowledge that ought to be shared. However, no effects of either treatment can be found in either type of knowledge sharing. No negative effect of the tested incentives on knowledge sharing was observed. Hence, incentives might not harm knowledge sharing but also do not pay off in organizational practice. There is an enormous variety in the choice of terms and mathematical notation for the same concept. The first study examines CEO effects on a wide range of offenses. Using data from enforcement actions by more than 50 U.S. federal agencies, regression re-sults show CEO effects on the likelihood, frequency, and severity of corporate misconduct. The findings hold for financial, labor-related, and environmental offenses; however, CEO effects are more pronounced for non-financial misconduct. Further results show a positive relation between CEO ability and non-financial misconduct, but no relation with financial misconduct, suggesting that higher CEO ability can have adverse consequences for employee welfare and society and public health. The second study focuses on CEO and CFO effects on financial misreporting. Using data on restatements and public enforcement actions, regression results show that the incremental effect of CFOs is economically larger than that of CEOs. This greater economic impact of CFOs is particularly pronounced for fraudulent misreporting. The findings remain consistent across different samples, methods, misreporting measures, and specification choices for the underlying conceptual mechanism, highlighting the important role of the CFO as a key player in the beyond-GAAP setting. The third study reexamines the relation between equity incentives and different reporting outcomes. The literature review reveals large variation in the empirical measures for firm size as standard control variable, equity incentives as key explanatory variables, and the reporting outcome of interest. Regres-sion results show that these design choices have a direct bearing on empirical results, with changes in t-statistics that often exceed typical thresholds for statistical significance. We argue that the privacy paradox is not just an instantiation of the attitude-behaviour gap. Instead, we introduce a new paradigm explaining the paradox as the result of attitude-intention and intentionbehaviour gaps. Historically, motivational goal-setting psychologists addressed the issue of intentionbehaviour gaps in terms of the Rubicon Model of Action Phases and argued that commitment and volitional strength are an essential mechanism that fuel intentions and translate them into action. Thus, in this study we address the privacy paradox from a motivational psychological perspective by developing two interventions on Facebook and assess whether the 287 participants of our online experiment actually change their privacy behaviour. The ability to speed up the transfer of knowledge between any kind of knowledge carriers in business processes with AR techniques can lead to a huge competitive advantage, for instance in manufacturing. This includes the transfer of person-bound knowledge as well as externalized knowledge of physical and virtual objects. The contribution builds on a time-dependent knowledge transfer model and conceptualizes an adaptable, AR-based application. Having the intention to accelerate the speed of knowledge transfers between a manufacturer and an information system, empirical results of an experimentation show the validity of this approach. For the first time, it will be possible to discover how to improve the transfer among knowledge carriers of an organization with knowledge-driven information systems (KDIS). In the first study, I examine internal auditors' views on negotiation interactions with auditees. My research is based on 23 semi-structured interviews with internal auditors (14 in-house and 9 external service providers) to gain insight into when and about what (RQ1), why (RQ2), and how (RQ3) they negotiate with auditees. By adapting the Gibbins et al. (2001) negotiation framework to the context of internal auditing, I obtain specific process (negotiation issue, auditor-auditee process, and outcome) and context elements that form the basis of my analyses. Through the additional use of inductive procedures, I conclude that internal auditors negotiate when they face professional and non-professional resistance from auditees during the audit process (RQ1). This resistance occurs in a variety of audit types and audit issues. Internal auditors choose negotiations to overcome this resistance primarily out of functional interest, as they cannot simply instruct auditees to acknowledge the findings and implement the required actions (RQ2). I find that the implementation of the required actions is the main goal of the respondents, which is also an important quality factor for internal auditing. Although few respondents interpret these interactions with auditees as negotiations, all respondents use a variety of negotiation strategies to create value (e.g., cost cutting, logrolling, and bridging) and claim value (e.g. positional commitment and threats) (RQ3). Finally, I contribute to empirical research on internal audit negotiations and internal audit quality by shedding light on the black box of internal auditor-auditee interactions. The second study consists of two experiments that examine the effects of tax auditors' emotion expressions during tax audit negotiations. In the first experiment, we demonstrate that auditors expressing anger obtain more concessions from taxpayers than auditors expressing happiness. This reveals that taxpayers interpret auditors' emotions strategically and do not respond affectively. In the second experiment, we show that the experience with an auditor who expressed either happiness or anger reduces taxpayers' post-audit compliance compared to the experience with an emotionally neutral auditor. Apparently, taxpayers use their experience with an emotional auditor to rationalize later noncompliance. Taken together, both experiments show the potentially detrimental effects of positive and negative emotion expressions by the auditor and point to the benefits of avoiding emotion expressions. We find that when auditors avoid emotion expressions this does not result in fewer concessions from taxpayers than when auditors express anger. More precisely, based on publications between the financial crisis (since 2007) and the COVID-19 crisis (starting in 2020), the crisis literature in management accounting is investigated to uncover the most influential aspects of the field and to analyze the theoretical foundations of the literature. Moreover, this investigation also serves to identify future research streams and to provide starting points for future research. Based on a survey, the second study investigates the impact of several management-accounting tools on organizational resilience and its effect on a company's competitive advantage during a crisis. The results show that their target-oriented use positively influences organizational resilience and contributes to the company's competitive advantage during the crisis. The third study provides a more detailed view on the relationship between budgeting and risk management and their benefit for companies in times of crisis. For this purpose, the relationship between the relevance of budgeting functions and risk management in the company and the corresponding impact on company performance are investigated. The results show a positive relationship. However, a crisis can also affect the relationship between the company and its shareholders: Thus, the fourth study - based on publicly available data and a survey - examines the consequences of virtual annual general meetings on shareholder rights. The results show that, temporarily, particularly the right to information was severely restricted. For the following year, this problem was fixed, and ultimately, the virtual option was introduced permanently. The crisis has thus brought about a lasting change. But not only crises cause changes: The fifth study, also based on survey data, investigates the changes in the role of management accountants caused by digitalization. More precisely, it investigates how management accountants deal with tasks that are considered outdated and unattractive. The results of the study show that different types of personalities also act differently as far as the willingness to do those unattractive tasks is concerned, and career ambitions also influence that willingness. Leader mood addresses both of these needs. When the team leader exhibited a positive mood, team functional diversity was positively related to members' identification with the team. By contrast, when the team leader displayed a negative mood, team functional diversity was positively related to information elaboration. Our findings show that Democrats and Republicans believe that online targeted political advertising benefits the opposing party. This belief is based on their conviction that their political opponents are more likely to be mobilized by online targeted political advertising than are supporters of their own party. We exogenously manipulated partisan self-interest considerations of a random subset of participants by truthfully informing them that, in the past, online targeted political advertising has benefited Republicans. Our findings show that Republicans informed about this had less favorable attitudes toward regulation than did their uninformed co-partisans. This suggests that Republicans' attitudes regarding stricter regulation are based not solely on concerns about privacy violations, but also, in part, are caused by beliefs about partisan advantage. By determining the concrete allocation of scarce resources, negotiations have a great impact on the value creation of companies. If companies succeed in achieving better negotiation results in the long term, they can increase their profitability. Ensuring a company's negotiation success is therefore an organizational issue of central importance. While the question of ensuring individual negotiation success has been the subject and topic of multidisciplinary research for a long time, the question of how organizations can implement and ensure continuous negotiation success remains largely unexplored. This dissertation therefore aims to investigate how companies enable their employees to consistently achieve better negotiation outcomes. It is significant that, in the corporate context, negotiators do not act as individuals but as embedded representatives of an organization, and that negotiations are not one-time events but recurring necessities for the existence of the organization instead. In organizations, those recurring processes with a similar fundamental structure are handled by routines. A planned improvement of routines is often forced by new artifacts. In this context, artifacts refer to human-created technologies with which humans interact within routines and therefore artifacts have a central influence on executing the routine. If negotiation activities in companies are represented by organizational routines, one central issue for improving companies' negotiation performance is the artifacts' incorporation into organizational negotiation routines that facilitate the efficient application of the insights from negotiation research. The dissertation consists of three studies that were written as research papers to examine artifacts in the organizational negotiation context. The first study focuses on the pre-negotiation stage and presents four tools to assist negotiation practitioners in efficiently preparing for negotiation. The study examines the negotiation preparation's effectiveness and efficiency and the negotiation outcome in a case-based experiment. The second study is devoted to a closer examination of the barriers that inhibit the adoption of negotiation support systems (NSSs) as one kind of organizational negotiation artifact. The investigation is conducted using a structural equation model based on information from participating practitioners. The third study is concerned with the future of negotiation support system research. An exploratory study based on qualitative in-depth interviews with proven and published experts in the field aims to evaluate the current state of research. This in turn can erode the subjective well-being of users and the sustainability of the SNS platform. Therefore, this paper seeks to develop a better theoretical understanding of how users respond to envy on SNSs. We review literature on envy in offline interactions to derive three behavioral strategies to reduce envy, which we then transfer to the SNS context (self-enhancement, gossiping, and discontinuous intention). Further, we propose a research model and examine how culture, specifically individualism-collectivism, affects the relationship between envy on an SNS and the three strategies. We empirically test the variance-based structural equation model through survey data collected of Facebook users from Germany and Hong Kong. To understand them, this research introduces the idea that the same consumer motives can exert different and potentially opposite impacts when organic consumption patterns unfold. The proposed multistage theory of differential effects distinguishes a participation stage, when consumers decide whether to purchase organic at all, and an expenditure stage, when consumers decide about how much of their budget to spend on organic products across purchases. An analysis of shopping patterns of approximately 14,000 households confirms the proposed differential influences: Other-oriented motives (care for others and the environment) support participation but impede sustained expenditures. Only self-oriented motives (hedonism) foster both participation and expenditures.
