This has stimulated interest in transdiagnostic dimensional research as proposed by the Research Domain Criteria (RDoC) approach by the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) aiming to improve the understanding of underlying disease mechanisms. The purpose of this study was to investigate the processing of RDoC domains in relation to disease severity in order to identify latent disorder-specific as well as transdiagnostic indicators of disease severity in patients with anxiety and depressive disorders. Methods Within the German research network for mental disorders, 895 participants (n = 476 female, n = 602 anxiety disorder, n = 257 depressive disorder) were recruited for the Phenotypic, Diagnostic and Clinical Domain Assessment Network Germany (PD-CAN) and included in this cross-sectional study. We performed incremental regression models to investigate the association of four RDoC domains on disease severity in patients with affective disorders: Positive (PVS) and Negative Valance System (NVS), Cognitive Systems (CS) and Social Processes (SP). Results The results confirmed a transdiagnostic relationship for all four domains, as we found significant main effects on disease severity within domain-specific models (PVS: \& beta; = -0.35; NVS: \& beta; = 0.39; CS: \& beta; = -0.12; SP: \& beta; = -0.32). We also found three significant interaction effects with main diagnosis showing a disease-specific association. Limitations The cross-sectional study design prevents causal conclusions. Further limitations include possible outliers and heteroskedasticity in all regression models which we appropriately controlled for. Conclusion Our key results show that symptom burden in anxiety and depressive disorders is associated with latent RDoC indicators in transdiagnostic and disease-specific ways.}, language = {en} } @misc{FrostGahlenKleinertetal.2000, author = {Frost, Robert and Gahlen, Gundula and Kleinert, Kieron and Gr{\"u}ndel, Olaf and von Breithaupt, Ulrich and Herrmann, Michael and Hempel, Annette and Fahrig, Ute and Zwierlein, Cornel A. and Planert, Ute and Huhtamies, Mikko and M{\"o}bius, Sascha and Nowosadtko, Jutta and Schneider, Dorit}, title = {Milit{\"a}r und Gesellschaft in der Fr{\"u}hen Neuzeit : Bulletin}, volume = {4}, number = {6}, url = {http://nbn-resolving.de/urn:nbn:de:kobv:517-opus-48759}, year = {2000}, abstract = {Ank{\"u}ndigungen - Jahrestagung des Arbeitskreises Milit{\"a}rgeschichte in Potsdam vom 16. bis 17. Many model applications and statistical analyses (e.g., extreme value analysis) are based on these time series. Consequently, the quality and the completeness of these time series are essential. Preprocessing of raw data sets by filling data gaps is thus a necessary procedure. Several interpolation techniques with different complexity are available ranging from rather simple to extremely challenging approaches. In this paper, various imputation methods available to the hydrological researchers are reviewed with regard to their suitability for filling gaps in the context of solving hydrological questions. The methodological approaches include arithmetic mean imputation, principal component analysis, regression-based methods and multiple imputation methods. In particular, autoregressive conditional heteroscedasticity (ARCH) models which originate from finance and econometrics will be discussed regarding their applicability to data series characterized by non-constant volatility and heteroscedasticity in hydrological contexts. The review shows that methodological advances driven by other fields of research bear relevance for a more intensive use of these methods in hydrology. Up to now, the hydrological community has paid little attention to the imputation ability of time series models in general and ARCH models in particular.}, language = {en} } @article{AnsellStenoienGrundmannetal.2010, author = {Ansell, Stephen W. and Stenoien, Hans K. and Grundmann, Michael and Schneider, Harald and Hemp, Andreas and Bauer, N. and Russell, S. Arabidopsis lyrata has emerged as a useful plant for studying ecological and evolutionary genetics, based on its extensive natural variation, sequenced genome and close relationship to A. thaliana. We studied genetic diversity across the entire range of European Arabidopsis lyrata ssp. petraea, in order to explore how population history has influenced population structure. We sampled multiple populations from each region, using nuclear and chloroplast genome markers, and combined population genetic and phylogeographic approaches. Within-population diversity is substantial for nuclear allozyme markers (mean P = 0.610, A(e) = 1.580, H-e = 0.277) and significantly partitioned among populations (F- ST = 0.271). The Northern populations have modestly increased inbreeding (F-IS = 0.163 verses F-IS = 0.093), but retain comparable diversity to central European populations. Bottlenecks are common among central and northern Europe populations, indicating recent demographic history as a dominant factor in structuring the European diversity. Although the genetic structure was detected at all geographic scales, two clear differentiated units covering northern and central European areas (F-CT = 0.155) were identified by Bayesian analysis and supported by regional pairwise F-CT calculations. A highly similar geographic pattern was observed from the distribution of chloroplast haplotypes, with the dominant northern haplotypes absent from central Europe. We conclude A. l. petraea's cold-tolerance and preference for disturbed habitats enabled glacial survival between the alpine and Nordic glaciers in central Europe and an additional cryptic refugium. Nevertheless only little is known about the fate of organic matter, cell abundances and microbial community structures during oil sand processing, tailings management and initial soil development on reclamation sites. Thus the focus of this work is on biogeochemical changes of mined oil sands through the entire process chain until its use as substratum for newly developing soils on reclamation sites. Therefore, oil sand, mature fine tailings (MFTs) from tailings ponds and drying cells and tailings sand covered with peat-mineral mix (PMM) as part of land reclamation were analyzed. The sample set was selected to address the question whether changes in the above-mentioned biogeochemical parameters can be related to oil sand processing or biological processes and how these changes influence microbial activities and soil development. GC-MS analyses of oil-derived biomarkers reveal that these compounds remain unaffected by oil sand processing and biological activity. In contrast, changes in polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) abundance and pattern can be observed along the process chain. Especially naphthalenes, phenanthrenes and chrysenes are altered or absent on reclamation sites, Furthermore, root-bearing horizons on reclamation sites exhibit cell abundances at least ten times higher (10(8) to 10(9) cells g(-1)) than in oil sand and MFF samples (10(7) cells g(-1)) and show a higher diversity in their microbial community structure. Nitrate in the pore water and roots derived from the PMM seem to be the most important stimulants for microbial growth. The combined data show that the observed compositional changes are mostly related to biological activity and the addition of exogenous organic components (PMM), whereas oil extraction, tailings dewatering and compaction do not have significant influences on the evaluated compounds. Microbial community composition remains relatively stable through the entire process chain. (C) 2014 Elsevier B.V. With the momentum of IPY, PYRN developed into a thriving network that still connects young permafrost scientists, engineers, and researchers from other disciplines. This research note summarises (1) PYRN's development since 2005 and the IPY's role, (2) the first 2015 PYRN census and survey results, and (3) PYRN's future plans to improve international and interdisciplinary exchange between young researchers. With >200 of the 1200 registered members active and engaged, PYRN is capitalising on the availability of social media tools and rising to meet environmental challenges while maintaining its role as a successful network honouring the legacy of IPY.}, language = {en} } @article{BauerBanaschewskiHeinzetal.2016, author = {Bauer, M. and Banaschewski, Tobias and Heinz, A. and Kamp-Becker, I. and Meyer-Lindenberg, A. and Padberg, F. and Rapp, Michael A. and Rupprecht, R. and Schneider, F. and Schulze, T. They can occur at all stages of life and are among the most important commonly occurring diseases. In Germany 28 \% of the population suffer from a mental disorder every year, while the lifetime risk of suffering from a mental disorder is almost 50 \%. Mental disorders cause great suffering for those affected and their social network. Quantitatively speaking, they can be considered to be among those diseases creating the greatest burden for society due to reduced productivity, absence from work and premature retirement. The Federal Ministry of Education and Research is funding a new research network from 2015 to 2019 with up to 35 million euros to investigate mental disorders in order to devise and develop better therapeutic measures and strategies for this population by means of basic and translational clinical research. This is the result of a competitive call for research proposals entitled research network for mental diseases. It is a nationwide network of nine consortia with up to ten psychiatric and clinical psychology partner institutions from largely university-based research facilities for adults and/or children and adolescents. Furthermore, three cross-consortia platform projects will seek to identify shared causes of diseases and new diagnostic modalities for anxiety disorders, attention deficit hyperactivity disorders (ADHS), autism, bipolar disorders, depression, schizophrenia and psychotic disorders as well as substance-related and addictive disorders. The spectrum of therapeutic approaches to be examined ranges from innovative pharmacological and psychotherapeutic treatment to novel brain stimulation procedures. In light of the enormous burden such diseases represent for society as a whole, a sustainable improvement in the financial support for those researching mental disorders seems essential. This network aims to become a nucleus for long overdue and sustained support for a German center for mental disorders.}, language = {de} } @article{SchulzeMakuchWagnerKounavesetal.2018, author = {Schulze-Makuch, Dirk and Wagner, Dirk and Kounaves, Samuel P. and Mangelsdorf, Kai and Devine, Kevin G. and de Vera, Jean-Pierre and Schmitt-Kopplin, Philippe and Grossart, Hans-Peter and Parro, Victor and Kaupenjohann, Martin and Galy, Albert and Schneider, Beate and Airo, Alessandro and Froesler, Jan and Davila, Alfonso F. and Arens, Felix L. and Caceres, Luis and Cornejo, Francisco Solis and Carrizo, Daniel and Dartnell, Lewis and DiRuggiero, Jocelyne and Flury, Markus and Ganzert, Lars and Gessner, Mark O. and Grathwohl, Peter and Guan, Lisa and Heinz, Jacob and Hess, Matthias and Keppler, Frank and Maus, Deborah and McKay, Christopher P. and Meckenstock, Rainer U. and Montgomery, Wren and Oberlin, Elizabeth A. and Probst, Alexander J. and Saenz, Johan S. and Sattler, Tobias and Schirmack, Janosch and Sephton, Mark A. and Schloter, Michael and Uhl, Jenny and Valenzuela, Bernardita and Vestergaard, Gisle and Woermer, Lars and Zamorano, Pedro}, title = {Transitory microbial habitat in the hyperarid Atacama Desert}, series = {Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America}, volume = {115}, journal = {Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America}, number = {11}, publisher = {National Acad. of Sciences}, address = {Washington}, issn = {0027-8424}, doi = {10.1073/pnas.1714341115}, pages = {2670 -- 2675}, year = {2018}, language = {en} }
