In this respect, the present article is intended as an update of K. Binnemans review published in 2005, but focusing exclusively on the imidazolium cation - the most widely studied. Herein, imidazolium-containing thermotropic liquid crystalline materials will be sorted by molecular structure (mono-, bis-, poly-imidazolium compounds, with symmetrical and non-symmetrical structures) and discussed. Their physico-chemical properties will be exposed in order to adduce the relevancy and potential of the imidazolium platform in various fields of research.}, language = {en} } @article{ZehbeKolloscheLardongetal.2016, author = {Zehbe, Kerstin and Kollosche, Matthias and Lardong, Sebastian and Kelling, Alexandra and Schilde, Uwe and Taubert, Andreas}, title = {Ionogels Based on Poly(methyl methacrylate) and Metal-Containing Ionic Liquids: Correlation between Structure and Mechanical and Electrical Properties}, series = {International journal of molecular sciences}, volume = {17}, journal = {International journal of molecular sciences}, publisher = {MDPI}, address = {Basel}, issn = {1422-0067}, doi = {10.3390/ijms17030391}, pages = {16}, year = {2016}, abstract = {Ionogels (IGs) based on poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) and the metal-containing ionic liquids (ILs) bis-1-butyl-3-methlimidazolium tetrachloridocuprate(II), tetrachloride cobaltate(II), and tetrachlorido manganate(II) have been synthesized and their mechanical and electrical properties have been correlated with their microstructure. Unlike many previous examples, the current IGs show a decreasing stability in stress-strain experiments on increasing IL fractions. The conductivities of the current IGs are lower than those observed in similar examples in the literature. Both effects are caused by a two-phase structure with micrometer-sized IL-rich domains homogeneously dispersed an IL-deficient continuous PMMA phase. This study demonstrates that the IL-polymer miscibility and the morphology of the IGs are key parameters to control the (macroscopic) properties of IGs.}, language = {en} } @misc{deZeaBermudezLerouxRabuetal.2017, author = {de Zea Bermudez, Veronica and Leroux, Fabrice and Rabu, Pierre and Taubert, Andreas}, title = {Hybrid nanomaterials: from the laboratory to the market}, series = {Beilstein journal of nanotechnology}, volume = {8}, journal = {Beilstein journal of nanotechnology}, publisher = {Beilstein-Institut zur F{\"o}rderung der Chemischen Wissenschaften}, address = {Frankfurt, Main}, issn = {2190-4286}, doi = {10.3762/bjnano.8.87}, pages = {861 -- 862}, year = {2017}, language = {en} } @article{WangLackXieetal.2012, author = {Wang, Feipeng and Lack, Alexander and Xie, Zailai and Fr{\"u}bing, Peter and Taubert, Andreas and Gerhard, Reimund}, title = {Ionic-liquid-induced ferroelectric polarization in poly(vinylidene fluoride) thin films}, series = {Applied physics letters}, volume = {100}, journal = {Applied physics letters}, number = {6}, publisher = {American Institute of Physics}, address = {Melville}, issn = {0003-6951}, doi = {10.1063/1.3683526}, pages = {4}, year = {2012}, abstract = {Thin films of ferroelectric beta-phase poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) were spin-coated from a solution that contained small amounts of the ionic liquid (IL) 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium nitrate. A remanent polarization of 60 mC/m(2) and a quasi-static pyroelectric coefficient of 19 mu C/m(2)K at 30 degrees C were observed in the films. It is suggested that the IL promotes the formation of the beta phase through dipolar interactions between PVDF chain-molecules and the IL. The dipolar interactions are identified as Coulomb attraction between hydrogen atoms in PVDF chains and anions in IL. The strong crystallinity increase is probably caused by the same dipolar interaction as well.}, language = {en} }
