Foundations of Open Access

Open Access stands for irrevocable, free and public access to digital scientific and scholarly publications on the internet – irrespective of financial, technical or legal constraints. Depending on the license granted, the rights of use may include copying and editing of the document as well as the further distribution and publication of digital copies for own use. Therefore it is mandatory, with every use, to indicate authorship and source correctly – according to academic practice.

The main objective of Open Access is to make academic publications available worldwide over the internet, free of charge. The dissemination of scientific and scholarly knowledge should be accelerated and at the same time assure free and sustainable access to this information for coming generations of researchers.
