Publication of Dissertations

The doctoral degree regulations of...

  • the faculty of philosophy
  • the faculty of human sciences
  • the faculty of economics and social sciences
  • the faculty of mathematics and science of the University of Potsdam and, in a limited fashion,
  • the faculty of law

accept the submission of the electronic document as a publication of the dissertation. In addition to the electronic document, 4, 5 or 7 print versions with a permanent binding (glue binding, thermal binding, VeloBind or hard cover binding, no spiral binding) have to be handed in as specimen copies. You can find a list of the policies about the forms of submission and the time frame for handing in your documents here.

The electronic version of your work must be completely identical with the version approved by the doctoral examination board as well as the print versions submitted at the same time. We therefore ask you not to create the print versions until we have sent you the final version of the PDF file for checking.

Notice Concerning the Protection of Your Personal Data:

Should the handed in copy of your thesis contain a curriculum vitae (CV), this can be eliminated from the online and/or further printed versions. If the CV is listed in the table of contents, please do not simply eliminate it from the electronic version. Instead, insert a placeholder page with a reference to the missing content, e. g.: “Pages 120-122 (CV) contain personal data and are thus not part of the online publication.”

When you want to publish a cumulative thesis, the copyright situation for a secondary publication must be clarified in advance. Further information: SHERPA/RoMEO database; Knowledge Base Law: Copyright; Legal Framework

PhD students who meet the doctoral degree requirements for publication of their thesis conventionally by submitting print versions, can publish their dissertations additionally as parallel online publications on the Institutional Repository of the University of Potsdam. It is also possible to publish a dissertation on the institutional repository if the submission in conventional form (print, microfiche, publishing house) and the graduation took place a longer time ago.

Note: For the online publication of your doctoral thesis on the Institutional Repository of the University we need the filled in and signed declaration of consent. You can forward it personally or via mail.
