  • This paper presents the concept of a university seminar for teacher students dealing with heterogeneity and language. It was created by researchers at the chair of German as a second and foreign language within the framework of a quality initiative for teacher training at the University of Potsdam (PSI Potsdam) and is part of the module ‘Basics of inclusive pedagogy’. The seminar accompanies a trainee phase for teacher students of all disciplines outside of the classroom during their undergraduate studies and is complemented by a block seminar (i. e., a compact course) at the end of the trainee phase itself. The paper presents the framework of the concept presented here with regard to content and underlying theories that aim at creating a basis for both awareness and self-reflection on part of the teachers-to-be with regard to (a) their capacities as self-consistent researchers in an observation task and (b) language and inclusion more generally. The paper also critically reflects on methodological questions, the syllabus itself andThis paper presents the concept of a university seminar for teacher students dealing with heterogeneity and language.
