September 1802 kurz vor Cajamarca führte, ist von Interesse für Humboldt-Forscher, zumal Bonpland scheinbar keine Zeugnisse weder in Brief- noch in Tagebuchform überlieferte. Recherchen am Original des Montúfar-Tagebuchs ergaben, dass die 1888 veröffentlichte Transkription durch Marcos Jiménez de la Espada aus verschiedenen Gründen problematisch ist. Es muss deshalb ein Desiderat der Humboldt-Forschung sein, eine korrigierte und kommentierte Transkription vorzulegen. Das geschieht hier zusammen mit einer digitalisierten Kopie des Originals
N2  - Together with Aimé Bonpland, Carlos Montúfar (1780-1816) was the third permanent member of Humboldt’s South American expedition starting in Quito. The diary that he wrote from June 9 until September 10, 1802 shortly before arriving in Cajamarca is of interest to Humboldt scholars, especially since Bonpland apparently left no accounts behind either in the form of letters or diaries. Research involving the original Montúfar diary has revealed that the transcription published in 1888 by Marcos Jiménez de la Espada is problematical for various reasons. It is thus a task of Humboldt scholarship to provide for a corrected and annotated transcription. This occurs here together with a digitalized copy of the original.

Este artículo contribuye a los Estudios Humboldtianos con una transcripción corregida y anotada del diario de Montúfar, junto con una copia digitalizada del original.

Das läuft auf einen Vergleich der Tagebücher der beiden Reisegefährten hinaus und auf den Versuch, die scheinbaren Widersprüche aufzulösen.
N2  - When Alexander von Humboldt left Quito in June 1802 in order to undertake the rest of his Latin-American trip of exploration, he was accompanied, aside from Aimé Bonpland, by Carlos Montúfar all the way back to Europe, including the attempt to scale the Chimborazo. Up to shortly before the city of Cajamarca in today’s Peru, Montúfar wrote an relatively unknown diary account of their travels. After a brief excursion into the life of Humboldt’s companion, the question is considered whether his diary sheds a different light on Humboldt and specifically on the mountain climb. That amounts to a comparison of the diaries of the two travel companions and to an attempt to explain the apparent contradictions.

Después de una breve excursión por la vida del compañero de Humboldt, el artículo actual trata la pregunta de si su diario presenta a Humboldt bajo un aspecto diferente. Termina con una comparación de los diarios de estos dos compañeros de viaje y con explicar las aparentes contradicciones.

N2  - In a previously published article in HIN under the title of “Eduard Dorsch and his unpublished poem on the occasion of Humboldt’s 100th birthday,” I elaborated on Dorsch’s poem that was read in Detroit in front of a German-American audience on Sept. 14, 1869, a day widely celebrated in the US in honor of Humboldt. Although it was not surprising that Dorsch wrote the occasional poem in the first place given his affinities with Humboldt’s world of thought, a discovery of a second occasional poem upon further research in Dorsch’s voluminous papers was indeed unexpected, in this case read on the same date in Monroe, Michigan. Although there are a number of similarities between the Detroit and Monroe versions, there are enough differences that warrant this addendum to my original article.
N2  - In einem bereits in HIN veröffentlichten Artikel mit dem Titel Eduard Dorsch und sein unveröffentlichtes Gelegenheitsgedicht zu Humboldts 100. Geburtstag ging ich auf Dorschs Gedicht ein, das am 14. September 1869 vor einem deutsch-amerikanischen Publikum in Detroit verlesen wurde, an einem Tag, der überall zu Ehren Humboldts in den USA gefeiert wurde. Obwohl es nicht überraschend ist, dass Dorsch angesichts seiner Affinität zu Humboldts Gedankenwelt das Gedicht überhaupt schrieb, war der Fund eines zweiten Gelegenheitsgedichts in Dorschs umfangreichem Nachlass dennoch unerwartet, in diesem Falle am selben Tag in Monroe, Michigan verlesen. Obwohl es eine Reihe von Ähnlichkeiten zwischen den Detroit- und Monroe-Versionen gibt, tauchen auch genug Unterschiede auf, um diesen Nachtrag zu meinem ursprünglichen Artikel zu rechtfertigen.
N2  - En un artículo ya publicado en HIN bajo el título de "Eduard Dorsch y su poema inédito con motivo del centenario de Humboldt", abordé el poema de Dorsch leído en Detroit frente a una audiencia germano-estadounidense el 14 de septiembre de 1869, un día ampliamente celebrado en los Estados Unidos en honor a Humboldt. Aunque no sorprende que Dorsch escribiera el poema de ocasión debido a sus afinidades con la cosmovisión de Humboldt, lo inesperado fue el hallazgo de un segundo poema para la misma ocasión durante un estudio adicional de los voluminosos papeles de Dorsch. Este segundo poema fue leído en la misma fecha en Monroe, Michigan. Si bien existe una serie de similitudes entre las versiones creadas para Detroit y Monroe, también hay suficientes diferencias que justifican este apéndice a mi artículo original.
