T1 - Hydrophilic spacer groups in polymerizable lipids: formation of biomembrane models from bulk polymerized lipids N2 - A variety of polymerizable lipids containing a hydrophilic spacer group between the reactive group and the main amphiphilic structure have been synthesized. They were investigated in monolayers, liposomes, and multilayers. When the spacer concept was used, efficient decoupling of the motions of the polymeric chain and the amphiphilic side groups is achieved. Thus, the often found loss of the important fluid phases by polymerization is avoided. Polymeric monolayers of the spacer lipid, prepared either by polymerization in the monolayer or by spreading of prepolymerized lipid, exhibit nearly identical surface pressure-area diagrams. Most distinctly, the successful decoupling of the motions of the polymer main chain and the membrane forming amphiphilic side groups is demonstrated by the self-organization of bulk polymerized spacer lipids to polymeric liposomes. In addition, spacer lipids are able to build polymeric Langmuir-Blodgett multilayers. The decoupling of the polymer main chain and the membrane-forming amphiphilic side groups enables the deposition of already polymeric monolayers onto supports to form defined multilayers. If, alternatively, monomeric monolayers are deposited and polymerized on the support, defects in the layers due to structural changes during the polymerization are avoided by the flexible spacer group. N2 - 76 children age five to twelve were interviewed. The "secret" is shown to develop slowly from an inner property of an isolated individual ("a secret must never be told...") to an element of peer-grouprelationship and friendship ("...so you know she trusts you"). Following an essay by GEORGE SIMMEL (1968) the secret is analyzed as an element of growing autonomy. - Grown-ups and peers seem to support its development by means of approval but also of considerable pressure. This leads us to the observation that we still do not know enough about the importance of force and aggression for cognitive development. Grünwald in seinem Buch über die Merkava Literatur - er fährt sodann fort und stellt mit Gershom Scholem fest, "that that particular element in the Hekhalot literature actually belonged to its very heart and this almost from its beginning" . N2 - From the array of variables analyzed by American researchers as determinants of responsibility attributions to rape victims and assailants, three well-established characteristics of victim, assailant, and observer were selected for a replication with a German sample: victim social status, assailant social status, and sex of respondent. Seventy-five subjects were presented with a short film in which a woman described how she had been raped. Before judging the responsibility of both victim and assailant, subjects received differential information about the social status of victim and assailant. The hypotheses received only partial support from the data: The high status victim was attributed less responsibility than the low status victim, the high status assailant was attributed more responsibility than the low status assailant. Sex of respondent did not significantly influence attributions of responsibility to both victim and assailant. T1 - Polymerization of hydrocarbon and fluorocarbon amphiphiles in Langmuir-Blodgett multilayers N2 - Langmuir-Blodgett multilayers of polymerizable carboxylic acids with hydrocarbon or fluorocarbon chains were prepared. The multilayers were polymerized by UV light and the reactions were studied by UV/visible spectroscopy. The polyreactions strongly influence the multilayer structures which were investigated by X-ray small-angle scattering and scanning electron microscopy. The spreading behaviour of the monomers, the preparation of multilayers, their reactivities in multilayers and structural effects caused by the polyreactions are discussed with regard to the hydrophilic head groups, the polymerizable groups and the hydrophobic chains. Style-shifting is shown to affect several distinct linguistic levels: phonetic, morphophonemic, syntactic, and lexical. The functions of style-shifting are related both to the discourse context and the broader institutional context. Relying on listeners' co-occurrence expectations with respect to language use in contexts and exploiting listeners' evaluations of processes of speech convergence and divergence, the moderator uses stereotypic markers at different style levels in locally strategic functions in discourse. On the one hand, thematic development is controlled by reinforcing obligations on the addressee. On the other hand, global social reciprocity patterns are constituted and secured. Patterns of reciprocity vary with different types of addressees. The conversational analysis of language variation shows that variation is not only a quantitative correlate of regional, social and contextual parameters as predominantly conceived of in sociolinguistics. Language variation is furthermore used as a means to signal social and interactive meaning in conversations.
