N2  - Die jüdischen Künstler Maurycy Gottlieb (1856–1879) und Marc Chagall (1887–1985) stellten Jesus als gläubigen Juden, eingebettet in die jüdische Umwelt seiner Zeit, dar. Der jüdische Jesus wird für sie zu einer Auseinandersetzung mit den jüdischen Wurzeln des Christentums und mit dem Antisemitismus, und sein Martyrium zu einem Symbol des jüdischen Leidens. Der vorliegende Aufsatz untersucht, wie ihre Bilder diese Botschaften transportieren und analysiert Kontinuitäten und Brüche über einen langen Zeitraum hinweg.
N2  - The Jewish artists Maurycy Gottlieb (1856–1879) and Marc Chagall (1887–1985) presented Jesus as a faithful Jew, embedded in the Jewish environment of his time. For them, the Jewish Jesus became a vehicle, able to render possible the analysis of Christianity’s Jewish roots, anti-Semitism, and Jesus’ martyrdom as the symbol for Jewish suffering. This paper examines how their images convey these messages and analyses continuities and discontinuities over a long period of time.
