T1 - Kiezdeutsch as a test case for the interaction between grammar and information structure
N2 - This paper deals with Kiezdeutsch, a way of speaking that emerged among adolescents in multiethnic urban neighbourhoods of Germany. We show that, in Kiezdeutsch, we find evidence for both grammatical reduction and new developments in the domain of information structure, and hypothesise that this points to a systematic interaction between grammar and information structure, between weakened grammatical constraints and a more liberal realisation of information-structural preferences. We show that Kiezdeutsch can serve as an interesting test case for such an interaction, that this youth language is a multiethnolect, that is, a new variety that is spoken by speakers from a multitude of ethnic backgrounds, including German, and forms a dynamic linguistic system of its own, thus allowing for systematic developments on grammatical levels and their interfaces with extragrammatical domains.

T1 - Protein interactions with cyanidin-3-glucoside and its influence on alpha-amylase activity
N2 - BACKGROUND: Recent studies indicate that the bioavailability of anthocyanins is extremely low. One of the possible reasons could be their binding to proteins. Therefore, the binding affinity of cyanidin-3-glucoside (Cy3glc) to HSA and alpha-amylase was investigated by the quenching of protein tryptophan fluorescence. From data obtained, the binding constants and the free Gibbs energy were calculated. The changes in conformation of the proteins tested were studied with circular dichroism and the influence of binding on alpha-amylase activity determined. RESULTS: Cy3glc quenched the tryptophan fluorescence and upon ligand binding a change in protein structure was observed related to the corresponding decrease in the et-amylase activity. The association constants of 25 to 77 x 10(3) L mol(-1) were calculated for different proteins, indicating weak interactions of non-covalent nature. Competitive binding with HSA in the presence of 8-anilino-1-naphthalene sulfonic acid suggest involvement of hydrophobic interactions, in the case of HSA the possible site being subdomain IIA. CONCLUSION: The strongest affinity of Cy3glc for HSA being at pH 7 underlines its potential in transport and distribution of the phenolic compounds in organisms. An influence on salivary amylase activity is possible when drinking berry juices with high anthocyanins content.

T1 - Specific interactions between four Molybdenum-binding proteins contribute to Mo-dependent gene regulation in Rhodobacter capsulatus
N2 - The phototrophic purple bacterium Rhodobacter capsulatus encodes two transcriptional regulators, MopA and MopB, with partially overlapping and specific functions in molybdate-dependent gene regulation. Both MopA and MopB consist of an N-terminal DNA-binding helix-turn-helix domain and a C-terminal molybdate-binding di-MOP domain. They formed homodimers as apo-proteins and in the molybdate-bound state as shown by yeast two-hybrid (Y2H) studies, glutaraldehyde cross-linking, gel filtration chromatography, and copurification experiments. Y2H studies suggested that both the DNA- binding and the molybdate-binding domains contribute to dimer formation. Analysis of molybdate binding to MopA and MopB revealed a binding stoichiometry of four molybdate oxyanions per homodimer. Specific interaction partners of MopA and MopB were the molybdate transporter ATPase ModC and the molbindin-like Mop protein, respectively. Like other molbindins, the R. capsulatus Mop protein formed hexamers, which were stabilized by binding of six molybdate oxyanions per hexamer. Heteromer formation of MopA and MopB was shown by Y2H studies and copurification experiments. Reporter gene activity of a strictly MopA-dependent mop-lacZ fusion in mutant strains defective for either mopA, mopB, or both suggested that MopB negatively modulates expression of the mop promoter. We propose that depletion of the active MopA homodimer pool by formation of MopA-MopB heteromers might represent a fine-tuning mechanism controlling mop gene expression.

T1 - Conditions and timing of pumpellyite-actinolite-facies metamorphism in the early Mesozoic frontal accretionary prism of the Madre de Dios Archipelago (latitude 50 degrees 20'S; Southern Chile)
N2 - The Madre de Dios Metamorphic Complex (MDMC) in southern Chile is a fossil frontal accretionary prism, which is mainly composed of metapsammopelitic rocks, intercalations of oceanic rocks (greenstone and metachert) and platform carbonate. We concentrated on the metabasite to decipher the metamorphic evolution. This rock type contains assemblages of the pumpellyite-actinolite facies: pumpellyite +/- actinolite-chlorite +/- grandite +/- phengite +/- epidote-albite- quartz-titanite +/- K-feldspar +/- calcite. The metamorphic phases mainly grew by prograde hydration reactions during various episodes of restricted fluid influx. Fundamental phase relations of the pumpellyite-actinolite facies and adjacent facies were reproduced by pseudosections calculated for the system K2O-Na2O-CaO-FeO-O-2-MgO-Al2O3-TiO2-SiO2-H2O- CO2 at 200-400 degrees C and 1-9 kbar. The calculated stability fields of the metamorphic assemblages as realized in the MDMC metabasite indicate highest metamorphic conditions restricted to 290-310 degrees C, 4-6 kbar for the MDMC, presumably as a result of the main fluid influx at these conditions. Nevertheless, earlier local equilibria are still preserved as a result of strongly kinetically controlled mineral reactions and a lack of recrystallization and compositional homogenization at thin-section scale. Hence, thermodynamic calculations of local multivariant mineral equilibria using the entire compositional variation of minerals in the MDMC show that the prograde PT path evolved from 4 +/- 1 kbar, 200-220 degrees C to 5 +/- 1 kbar, 290-330 degrees C. The prograde PT path reflects nearly horizontal particle paths after reaching the maximum depth typical for frontal accretionary prisms. Long residence at maximum depth resulted in thermal re-equilibration. Ar-40/Ar-39 spot ages were measured by in situ UV laser ablation of local phengite concentrations in a deformed metapelite at 233 center dot 2 +/- 1 center dot 8 Ma and in an undeformed metabasite at 200 center dot 8 +/- 2 center dot 4 Ma. Whereas the first age represents an age of accretion, the latter age can be attributed to mineral growth either during a younger stage of accretion or during a retrograde stage. Ar-40/Ar-39 isotopic analyses of two further metabasite samples reflect a prominent resetting of ages at 152 center dot 0 +/- 2 center dot 2 Ma and white mica growth during external fluid access triggered by either a local intrusion or a late Jurassic extensional episode.

T1 - Tuning the thickness of polymer brushes grafted from nonlinearly growing multilayer assemblies
N2 - A new versatile method for tuning the thickness of surface-tethered polymer brushes is introduced. It is based on the combination of polyelectrolyte multilayer deposition and surface-initiated atom transfer radical polymerization. To control the thickness of the brushes, the nonlinear growth of certain polyelectrolyte multilayer systems is exploited. The method is demonstrated to work with different polyelectrolytes and different monomers. The relevance for applications is demonstrated by cell adhesion experiments oil grafted thermoresponsive polymer layers with varying thickness.

N2 - Resynthesis of handshake specifications obtained e. g. from BALSA or TANGRAM with speed-independent logic synthesis from STGs is a promising approach. To deal with state-space explosion, we suggested STG decomposition; a problem is that decomposition can lead to irreducible CSC conflicts. Here, we present a new approach to solve such conflicts by introducing internal communication between the components. We give some first, very encouraging results for very large STGs concerning synthesis time and circuit area.

T1 - The role of DGDG synthase DGD1 in galactolipid synthesis in the envelopes of chloroplasts
N2 - In den Chloroplasten von höheren Pflanzen sind die Galaktolipide Monogalaktosyldiacylglycerol (MGDG) und Digalaktosyldiacylglycerol (DGDG) die am weitesten verbreiteten Lipide. In dieser Forschungsarbeit wurde die Funktion der DGDG Synthase DGD1, und insbesondere die Funktion des N-terminalen Bereichs dieses Enzyms in der Modellpflanze Arabidopsis thaliana untersucht. Die Überexpression des N-terminalen Bereichs von DGD1 in WT-Col2 resultierte in einem reduzierten Wachstum, welches sich jedoch von der dgd1-1 Mutante unterschied. Dies legte bereits nahe, dass die Expression von N-DGD1 einen negativen Einfluss auf das Wachstum hat. Durch Studien in einem heterologen E.coli Expressionssystem konnte diese These bestätigt werden. Zellen, die ausschließlich N-DGD1 zusammen mit einer MGD Synthase aus Gurke exprimierten, waren im Wachstum stark beeinträchtigt. Nicht nur der N-terminale Bereich von DGD1, auch der N-terminale Bereich von MGD1 besitzt eine Funktion als Transitpeptid und ist somit ein wichtiger Faktor zur korrekten Lokalisierung des MGD1 Proteins. In dieser Arbeit ist es gelungen, ein Fusionskonstrukt aus N-MGD1 und DGD2 in die dgd1-1 Mutante zu transferieren und damit das reduzierte Wachstum zu komplementieren. Frühere Versuche, ein reduziertes dgd1-1 Wachstum mit DGD2 allein zu komplementieren, scheiterten. Somit gibt dies einen Hinweis darauf, dass N-MGD1 als Transitpeptid fungieren kann. Bindungsstudien zur Interaktion von DGD1 und N-DGD1 Protein zeigten, dass die polaren Lipide MGDG und DGDG in Wechselwirkung mit dem N-terminalen Bereich von DGD1 treten. Bis zum heutigen Zeitpunkt ist nicht erforscht, wie der Transport von DGDG und MGDG zwischen den Hüllmembranen des Chloroplasten erfolgt. Die in dieser Arbeit angefertigen Bindungsstudien konnten Hinweise darauf geben, dass N-DGD1 als eine Art „Antiporter“ fungiert, um MGDG und DGDG zwischen den Hüllmembranen zu transportieren. Weiterhin wurden Bindungsstudien zur Erforschung von Interaktionen der Glykosyltransferasen DGD1, DGD2, MGD1, MGD2 und MGD3 angefertigt. Dabei wurden Wechselwirkungen zwischen den Glykosyltransferasen DGD1, DGD2 und MGD2 detektiert. Interessant ist, dass Hinweise auf eine Dimerbildung bestimmter Enzyme gefunden wurden, so für DGD1 und MGD2. Ein weiterer Ansatz zur Erforschung von Wechselwirkungen von DGD1 Protein mit bis jetzt unbekannten Proteinen war die Expression von DGD1-StrepIITag und DGD1-CTAPTag Fusionsproteinen in dgd1-1 Mutanten. Es wurden für beide Tags transgene Linien generiert, die im Wachstum komplementiert waren und wildtypähnliche Mengen an DGDG akkumulierten. Die Expression der verschiedenen Tags in den Pflanzen war sehr unterschiedlich, wobei der DGD1-CTAP-Tag am stärksten exprimiert war. Mit Pflanzenmaterial dieser Linien kann nun eine Aufreinigung des getaggten Proteins und eventueller Interaktionspartner erfolgen.
N2 - The two galactolipids monogalactosyldiacylglycerol (MGDG) and digalactosyl-diacylglycerol (DGDG) constitute the bulk of membrane lipids in chloroplasts. They play a crucial role in organell development and are important for the functionality of photosynthetic complexes in thylakoids. Two DGDG synthases, DGD1 and DGD2, are found in Arabidopsis, and the two proteins localize to the chloroplast envelope membranes. The dgd1 mutant which contains only 10% of wild type amounts of DGDG shows a dwarf phenotype and reduced photosynthetic capacity. The DGD1 protein consists of two domains. While the C-terminal part is responsible for galactosyltransferase activity, no clear function can be attributed to the N-terminal extension. To study the function of the N-terminal part of DGD1 in chloroplast membrane lipid synthesis, translational fusion proteins harboring different DGDG synthase sequences were introduced into wild type and dgd1 mutant plants and analyzed for changes in lipid content and growth. The dgd1 mutant phenotype was complemented with a full-length DGD1 sequence, but not with DGD2. Interestingly, the chimeric fusion of the N-terminal part of DGD1 with DGD2 did complement the dgd1 growth and lipid deficiency. Over-expression of the N-terminal part of DGD1 in wild type Arabidopsis plants affected growth and resulted in alterations of leaf morphology. However, this phenotype was distinct from that observed for dgd1, because these transgenic plants contain normal amounts of galactolipids, and leaves are not yellowish. In conclusion, these data suggest that the N-terminal region of DGD1 might be important for galactolipid transport across the chloroplast envelope membranes towards the thylakoid membranes. Interaction studies between N-DGD1 Protein and different membrane lipids showed an interaction between N-DGD1 Protein and MGDG and DGDG. Till now not much is known about the transport mechanisms of DGDG and MGDG between the chloroplast envelopes. This work gave some indications, that the N-terminal part of DGD1 is involved in the transport of MGDG and DGDG between the chloroplast envelopes. Furthermore interaction studies were made for the glycosyltransferases DGD1, DGD2 MGD1, MGD2 and MGD3. Interactions between DGD1, DGD2 and MGD2 were observed. Another way for finding interacting proteins of DGD1 was the expression of a DGD1-CTAPTag fusion protein in the dgd1-1 mutant. These transgenic lines contained a high amount of DGD1-CTAPTag protein. With these plants its now possible to analyze interacting partners of DGD1 with help of Tandem Affinity Purification method.

N2 - Sehzellen von Insekten sind epitheliale Zellen mit einer charakteristischen, hochpolaren Morphologie und Organisation. Die molekularen Komponenten der Sehkaskade befinden sich im Rhabdomer, einem Saum dicht gepackter Mikrovilli entlang der Sehzelle. Bereits in den 70er Jahren des letzten Jahrhunderts wurde beschrieben, dass die Mikrovilli entlang einer Sehzelle eine unterschiedliche Ausrichtung besitzen, oder in anderen Worten, die Rhabdomere entlang der Sehzell-Längsachse verdreht sind. So sind in den Sehzellen R1-R6 bei dipteren Fliegen (Calliphora, Drosophila) die Mikrovilli im distalen und proximalen Bereich eines Rhabdomers etwa rechtwinkelig zueinander angeordnet. Dieses Phänomen wird in der Fachliteratur als rhabdomere twisting bezeichnet und reduziert die Empfindlichkeit für polarisiertes Licht. Es wurde für das Drosophila-Auge gezeigt, dass diese strukturelle Asymmetrie der Sehzellen mit einer molekularen Asymmetrie in der Verteilung phosphotyrosinierter Proteine an die Stielmembran (einem nicht-mikrovillären Bereich der apikalen Plasmamembran) einhergeht. Zudem wurde gezeigt, dass die immuncytochemische Markierung mit anti-Phosphotyrosin (anti-PY) als lichtmikroskopischer Marker für das rhabdomere twisting verwendet werden kann. Bisher wurde hauptsächlich die physiologische Bedeutung der Rhabdomerverdrehung untersucht. Es ist wenig über die entwicklungs- und zellbiologischen Grundlagen bekannt. Ziel der vorliegenden Arbeit war es, die Identität der phosphotyrosinierten Proteine an der Stielmembran zu klären und ihre funktionelle Bedeutung für die Entwicklung des rhabdomere twisting zu analysieren. Zudem sollte untersucht werden, welchen Einfluss die inneren Sehzellen R7 und R8 auf die Verdrehung der Rhabdomere von R1-R6 haben. Für die zwei Proteinkinasen Rolled (ERK) und Basket (JNK) vom Typ der Mitogen-aktivierten Proteinkinasen (MAPK) konnte ich zeigen, dass sie in ihrer aktivierten (= phosphorylierten) Form (pERK bzw. pJNK) eine asymmetrische Verteilung an der Stielmembran aufweisen vergleichbar der Markierung mit anti-PY. Weiterhin wurde diese asymmetrische Verteilung von pERK und pJNK ebenso wie die von PY erst kurz vor Schlupf der Fliegen (bei ca. 90% pupaler Entwicklung) etabliert. Durch Präinkubationsexperimente mit anti-PY wurde die Markierung mit anti-pERK bzw. anti-pJNK unterbunden. Diese Ergebnisse sprechen dafür, dass pERK und pJNK zu den Proteinen gehören, die von anti-PY an der Stielmembran erkannt werden. Da es sich bei ERK und JNK um Kinasen handelt, ist es naheliegend, dass diese an der Entwicklung des rhabdomere twisting beteiligt sein könnten. Diese Hypothese wurde durch die Analyse von hypermorphen (rl SEM)und hypomorphen (rl 1/rl 10a) Rolled-Mutanten überprüft. In der rl SEM-Mutante mit erhöhter Aktivität der Proteinkinase erfolgte die asymmetrische Positionierung von pERK an der Stielmembran sowie die Mikrovillikippung schon zu einem früheren Zeitpunkt in der pupalen Entwicklung. Im adulten Auge war die anti-PY-Markierung im distalen Bereich der Sehzellen intensiver sowie der Kippwinkel vergrößert. In der rl 1/rl 10a-Mutanten mit reduzierter Kinaseaktivität waren die anti-PY-Markierung und der Kippwinkel im proximalen Bereich der Sehzellen verringert. Die Proteinkinase ERK hat somit einen Einfluss auf die zeitliche Etablierung des rhabdomere twisting wie auch auf dessen Ausprägung im Adulttier. Die Rhabdomerverdrehung sowie die Änderung im anti-PY-Markierungsmuster erfolgen an den Sehzellen R1-R6 relativ abrupt auf halber Ommatidienlänge, dort wo das Rhabdomer von R7 endet und das von R8 beginnt. Es stellte sich deshalb die Frage, ob die Rhabdomerverdrehung an R1-R6 durch die Sehzelle R7 und/oder R8 beeinflusst wird. Um dieser Frage nachzugehen wurden Mutanten analysiert, denen die R7- oder die R8-Photorezeptoren bzw. R7 und R8 fehlten. Das wichtigste Ergebnis dieser Untersuchungen war, dass bei Fehlen von R8 die Rhabdomerverdrehung bei R1-R6 nach keinen erkennbaren Regeln erfolgt. R8 ist somit Voraussetzung für die Etablierung der Rhabdomerverdrehung in R1-R6. Folgendes Modell wurde auf Grundlage dieses und weiterer Ergebnisse erarbeitet: Im dritten Larvenstadium rekrutiert R8 die Sehzellpaare R2/R5, R3/R4 und R1/R6. Dabei werden R1-R6 durch den Kontakt zu R8 „polarisiert“. Abschließend wird R7 durch R8 rekrutiert. Dies führt zu einer Fixierung der Polarität von R1-R6 durch R7. Die Ausführung der Mikrovillikippung anhand der festgelegten Polarität erfolgt in der späten Puppenphase. Die Proteinkinase ERK ist an diesem letzten Morphogeneseprozess beteiligt.
N2 - Visual cells of insects are epithelial cells with a characteristic morphology and organization. The molecular components of the signalling cascade are arranged in the rhabdomere, an array of densely packed microvilli along the side of the cell body. Already in the 70s of the last century it was described that microvilli point in different directions in various segments of the rhabdomere. Thus, in Dipteran flies (Calliphora, Drosophila) microvilli in the distal part of visual cells R1-R6 are nearly perpendicular to the microvilli in the proximal portion. This phenomenon is termed rhabdomere twisting and decreases the sensitivity of visual cells to polarized light. For Drosophila, structural asymmetry was shown to correlate with molecular asymmetry in the distribution of phosphotyrosinated proteins to the stalk (a non-microvillar region of the apical plasma membrane). Furthermore, this asymmetric distribution of antiphosphotyrosine (anti-PY) provides a light microscopic marker for rhabdomere twisting. So far little is known about the developmental and cell biological basis of rhabdomere twisting. Purpose of the present study was to identify the phosphotyrosinated proteins at the stalk und to analyse their functional relevance for the development of rhabdomere twisting. Moreover, influence of the inner visual cells R7 and R8 on rhabdomere twisting should be examined. Two protein kinases of the MAPK-type, Rolled (ERK) and Basket (JNK), show for their activated (= phosphorylated) forms (pERK and pJNK respectively) an asymmetric distribution to the stalk comparable to labelling with anti-PY. In addition, this asymmetric distribution of pERK, pJNK and also PY is established shortly before eclosion of the fly. Preincubation experiments with anti-PY abolished labelling with anti-pERK and anti-pJNK respectively. These results indicate that pERK and pJNK belong to the proteins on the stalk recognized by anti-PY. ERK and JNK are kinases and therefore are likely to be involved in the development of rhabdomere twisting. To test this hypothesis I analysed hypermorph (rl SEM) and hypomorph (rl 1/rl 10a) rolled mutants. In rl SEM mutants with increased kinase activity asymmetric positioning of pERK to the stalk and tilting of microvilli occurred earlier during pupal development. In the adult eye anti-PY labelling was more intensive in the distal part of the visual cells, and congruently the microvillar tilt angle was increased. In rl 1/rl 10a mutants with reduced kinase activity anti-PY labelling and microvillar tilt angle were reduced in the proximal part of visual cells. Hence, protein kinase ERK has an influence on developmental establishment of rhabdomere twisting and its specification in the adult eye. In R1-R6 rhabdomere twisting as well as changes in anti-PY labelling pattern take place within a narrow range halfway along the rhabdomere where the rhabdomere of R7 ceases and that of R8 begins. So the question arises whether rhabdomere twisting of R1-R6 is influenced by R7 and/or R8. To answer that question I analysed mutants that lack R7 or R8 or both visual cells. Most importantly absence of R8 leads to a disorganized rhabdomere twisting in R1-R6. Consequently R8 seems to be required for the establishment of rhabdomere twisting in R1-R6. Following working model was developed: in the third larval instar R8 recruits pairs of visual cells R2/R5, R3/R4 and R1/R6. In that process R1-R6 become „polarised“ by the contact to R8. Finally R7 is recruited by R8. That fixes polarity of R1-R6 by R7. The active tilting of the microvilli on the basis of the given polarity is carried out in late pupal development with the help of protein kinase ERK.

T1 - Ultrafast structural dynamics of perovskite superlattices
N2 - Femtosecond x-ray diffraction provides direct insight into the ultrafast reversible lattice dynamics of materials with a perovskite structure. Superlattice (SL) structures consisting of a sequence of nanometer-thick layer pairs allow for optically inducing a tailored stress profile that drives the lattice motions and for limiting the influence of strain propagation on the observed dynamics. We demonstrate this concept in a series of diffraction experiments with femtosecond time resolution, giving detailed information on the ultrafast lattice dynamics of ferroelectric and ferromagnetic superlattices. Anharmonically coupled lattice motions in a SrRuO3/PbZr0.2Ti0.8O3 (SRO/ PZT) SL lead to a switch-off of the electric polarizations on a time scale of the order of 1 ps. Ultrafast magnetostriction of photoexcited SRO layers is demonstrated in a SRO/SrTiO3 (STO) SL.

T1 - The role of ethnically mixed marriages in language shift : a case study of Nigeria's minority languages
N2 - As the foundation of homes, the marriage institution is an important agent of sociali- zation. In this regard, marriage can be relied upon as a major factor in language and cultural maintenance. However, mixed marriages may contribute to language shift in the home because they can lead to a change in language use patterns among minority language speakers and their children. This means that the likelihood of preserving a minority language is greater in marriages among individuals who speak the same indigenous language than in situations in which spouses speak different languages. This study uses questionnaire data from parents of ethnically mixed marriages to explain how mixed marriages contribute to language shift from minority languages to English (Nigeria's official language), Nigerian Pidgin (informal lingua franca) and the major languages (i.e. Hausa, Igbo and Yoruba) in the home domains. The study shows that the future of minority languages will largely depend on the roles of families and the value attached to minority ethnic identity by young people, particularly those from mixed homes. N2 - The yellowhammer Emberiza citrinella is a common European bird that sings in dialects that for decades have been distinguished by the existence of one single element (called a "specific''). In this study we looked into other possibilities for dialect discrimination, measuring 24 different variables. For the first time, multivariate statistics were used to discriminate dialect in yellowhammer song. Two similar dialects (XlB and XsB) that are not clearly defined in the literature were studied. Statistics incorporated (1) all variables, ( 2) no variables of "specific'' elements, and (3) no variables under the influence of these "specific'' variables. Multivariate statistics support dialect discrimination by ear and confirmed that only one element in yellowhammer song characterises dialect. In addition, we looked for local differences within two dialects and found that one local observation area showed a higher separation than the other sites (Meck1). However, as yet there is insufficient evidence for the existence of a new subdialect.

N2 - Throughout its empirical research history eye movement research has always been aware of the differences in reading behavior induced by individual differences and task demands. This work introduces a novel comprehensive concept of reading strategy, comprising individual differences in reading style and reading skill as well as reader goals. In a series of sentence reading experiments recording eye movements, the influence of reading strategies on reader- and word-level effects assuming distributed processing has been investigated. Results provide evidence for strategic, top-down influences on eye movement control that extend our understanding of eye guidance in reading.
N2 - Seit Beginn der Blickbewegungsforschung beim Lesen ist man sich über Unterschiede im Blickverhalten bewusst, die im Zusammenhang mit individuellen Unterschieden oder Aufgabenanforderungen stehen. Unter dem Begriff ‚Lesestrategie’ wurden diese Unterschiede hauptsächlich für diagnostische Zwecke verwendet. Diese Studie verwendet eine neue, umfassende Definition von Lesestrategie und berücksichtigt sowohl individuelle Unterschiede in Lesestil und Lesevermögen als auch Ziel und Intention des Lesers. In einer Reihe von Satzleseexperimenten, bei denen die Blickbewegungen aufgezeichnet wurden, wurde der Einfluss von Lesestrategien auf Effekte der Leser-und Wortebene untersucht, wobei eine verteilte Verarbeitung beim Lesen angenommen wird. Die Ergebnisse liefern Evidenzen für strategische, top-down Einflüsse auf die Blickbewegungen und leisten einen wichtigen Beitrag für das bessere Verständnis der Blickbewegungskontrolle beim Lesen.

T1 - Absence of a dominance hierarchy confirms territorial organization in male bushbuck (Tragelaphus scriptus Pallas, 1766)
N2 - It has been suggested that all species of spiral-horned antelopes (Tragelaphini) lack territoriality. Furthermore, some authors suggested that bushbuck (Tragelpahus scriptus) males form dominance hierarchies. In this study, we investigated the dominance relationships in two groups of free-ranging bushbuck males in Queen Elizabeth National Park, Uganda. Adult males dominated young-adult bachelors and subadult males, but no distinct dominance relationships were found among adult males. Landau's index of linearity revealed no linear dominance hierarchy in the study populations. Our results support the idea that adult males are territorial, and overt aggression is directed almost exclusively towards bachelors that challenge territory holders.

T1 - Do ecotypes of bushbuck differ in grouping patterns?
N2 - Grouping patterns within the genus Tragelaphus suggest that species inhabiting open areas tend to live in larger groups, while species preferring dense habitats live solitarily or in small family groups. We asked if similar variation would be concealed in the within-species variation of bushbuck (Tragelaphus scriptus). Recent molecular phylogeographic analyses revealed several locally adapted forms of bushbuck in different ecoregions on the African continent. We compared group sizes of south-eastern bushbuck (Tragelaphus sylvaticus) among six different populations ("ecotypes"). To date, most data on the social organization of bushbuck have been collected from only one population in Queen Elizabeth National Park (QENP) in Uganda. This particular population, however, inhabits an unusual-comparatively open-habitat type, while bushbuck otherwise inhabit dense habitats, leaving doubt whether data collected in QENP are representative of the entire species. We, therefore, compared grouping patterns between ecotypes inhabiting rather open habitats (e.g., dianae and haywoodi) and ecotypes occupying rather dense habitats (e.g., massaicus and ornatus). In bachelor groups and in all-female (spinster) groups, single sightings were the most frequent "group type" in all populations examined. We detected no significant difference among ecotypes in relative frequencies of group size categories in the case of bachelor groups. Spinster group sizes were slightly (albeit significantly) smaller in QENP than in all other areas. Moreover, a comparison of two areas inside (low human pursuit) and outside Lake Mburo National Park (high hunting pressure) in Uganda revealed no significant difference in grouping patterns in response to human pursuit (as reported for impala [Aepyceros melampus] inhabiting the same area). Altogether, our results suggest that group sizes in bushbuck are not dependent on the habitat type they inhabit; neither does human nuisance have an impact on grouping patterns. Hence, an "almost solitary" lifestyle appears to be a characteristic of the entire taxon.

N2 - The response of scale-free networks with community structure to external stimuli is studied. By disturbing some nodes with different strategies, it is shown that the robustness of this kind of network can be enhanced due to the existence of communities in the networks. Some of the response patterns are found to coincide with topological communities. We show that such phenomena also occur in the cat brain network which is an example of a scale-free like network with community structure. Our results provide insights into the relationship between network topology and the functional organization in complex networks from another viewpoint.

N2 - Is a specific disorder of arithmetic skills as common as reading/spelling disorder?Background: Referring to the prevalence rates of learning disorders in the research literature, the numbers of mathematics disorder and reading/ spelling disorder are often reported to be identical. However, the correlation between intelligence level and reading/ spelling skills is much weaker than between intelligence and arithmetic skills. If the same definition criterion is applied to both disorders, a lower prevalence rate for mathematics disorder should be expected. Objective: Are there differences in the prevalence estimates for learning disorders depending on the definition criterion? Method: A large representative sample of German students (N = 1970) was used to review the hypothesis. Results: Depending on the definition criterion, we could show a prevalence range of mathematics disorder between 0.1% and 8.1% in the same sample. Using the same definition criterion for both learning disorders, there are two to three times as many students with reading/spelling disorder than those with mathematics disorder. Discussion: Whenever children with reading/spelling disorder are compared to children with mathematics disorder, the same definition criterion has to be applied.

N2 - Evidence for semantic preview benefit (PB) from parafoveal words has been elusive for reading alphabetic scripts such as English. Here we report semantic PB for noncompound characters in Chinese reading with the boundary paradigm. In addition, PBs for orthographic relatedness and, as a numeric trend, for phonological relatedness were obtained. Results are in agreement with other research suggesting that the Chinese writing system is based on a closer association between graphic form and meaning than is alphabetic script. We discuss implications for notions of serial attention shifts and parallel distributed processing of words during reading.

N2 - We show that all multipartite pure states can, under local operations, be transformed into bipartite pairwise entangled states in a "lossless fashion": An arbitrary distinguished party will keep pairwise entanglement with all other parties after the asymptotic protocol-decorrelating all other parties from each other-in a way that the degree of entanglement of this party with respect to the rest will remain entirely unchanged. The set of possible entanglement distributions of bipartite pairs is also classified. Finally, we point out several applications of this protocol as a useful primitive in quantum information theory.

N2 - A new pterocarpan (named 8-methoxyneorautenol) was isolated from the acetone ext. of the root bark of Erythrina abyssinica. In addn., the known isoflavonoid derivs. eryvarin L, erycristagallin and shinpterocarpin were identified for the first time from the roots of this plant. The structures were detd. on the basis of spectroscopic evidence. The new compd. showed selective antimicrobial activity against Trichophyton mentagrophytes. The acetone ext. of the root bark of E. abyssinica showed radical scavenging activity towards 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl radical (DPPH). The pterocarpenes, 3-hydroxy-9-methoxy-10-(3,3-dimethylallyl)pterocarpene and erycristagallin, were the most active constituents of the roots of this plant and showing dose-dependent activities similar to that of the std. quercetin. T1 - The interplay of nanostructure and efficiency of polymer solar cells
T1 - Einfluss der Nanostruktur auf die Effizienz von Polymer-Solarzellen
N2 - The aim of this thesis is to achieve a deep understanding of the working mechanism of polymer based solar cells and to improve the device performance. Two types of the polymer based solar cells are studied here: all-polymer solar cells comprising macromolecular donors and acceptors based on poly(p-phenylene vinylene) and hybrid cells comprising a PPV copolymer in combination with a novel small molecule electron acceptor. To understand the interplay between morphology and photovoltaic properties in all-polymer devices, I compared the photocurrent characteristics and excited state properties of bilayer and blend devices with different nano-morphology, which was fine tuned by using solvents with different boiling points. The main conclusion from these complementary measurements was that the performance-limiting step is the field-dependent generation of free charge carriers, while bimolecular recombination and charge extraction do not compromise device performance. These findings imply that the proper design of the donor-acceptor heterojunction is of major importance towards the goal of high photovoltaic efficiencies. Regarding polymer-small molecular hybrid solar cells I combined the hole-transporting polymer M3EH-PPV with a novel Vinazene-based electron acceptor. This molecule can be either deposited from solution or by thermal evaporation, allowing for a large variety of layer architectures to be realized. I then demonstrated that the layer architecture has a large influence on the photovoltaic properties. Solar cells with very high fill factors of up to 57 % and an open circuit voltage of 1V could be achieved by realizing a sharp and well-defined donor-acceptor heterojunction. In the past, fill factors exceeding 50 % have only been observed for polymers in combination with soluble fullerene-derivatives or nanocrystalline inorganic semiconductors as the electron-accepting component. The finding that proper processing of polymer-vinazene devices leads to similar high values is a major step towards the design of efficient polymer-based solar cells.
N2 - Ziel dieser Dissertation ist es, die grundlegende Arbeitsweise von polymerbasierten Solarzellen zu verstehen und ihre Leistungsfähigkeit zu erhöhen. Zwei Arten von organischen Solarzellen werden untersucht: Solarzellen, bei denen sowohl Elektronendonator und akzeptor auf Poly(p-phenylen-vinylen) basieren sowie Zellen, bei denen ein PPV-Copolymer als Elektronendonator und organische kleine Moleküle als Elektronenakzeptor fungierten. Um die Zusammenhänge zwischen Morphologie und photovoltaischen Eigenschaften zu verstehen, untersuchte ich Photoströme sowie die Eigenschaften angeregter Zustände in Zweischicht- und Mischsolarzellen mit unterschiedlicher Nano-Morphologie, welche durch die Verwendung von Lösungsmitteln mit unterschiedlichen Siedetemperaturen modifiziert wurde. Die Hauptschlussfolgerung aus diesen Messungen ist, dass der effizienzlimitierende Faktor die feldabhängige Generation freier Ladungsträger ist, wohingegen bimolekulare Rekombination oder die Extraktion der Ladungsträger die Leistungsfähigkeit von Polymer-Polymer- Solarzellen nicht beeinträchtigen. Diese Ergebnisse legen nahe, dass die gezielte Einstellung der Donator-Akzeptor-Grenzfläche von besonderer Bedeutung zum Erreichen hoher Effizienzen ist. In Hybridsolarzellen aus Polymeren und kleinen Molekülen kombinierte ich das lochleitende konjugierte Polymer M3EH-PPV mit einem neuartigen Vinazen-Molekül als Elektronen-akzeptor. Dieses Molekül bietet die Möglichkeit, entweder aus einer Lösung heraus verarbeitet oder im Hochvakuum verdampft zu werden, wodurch eine Vielzahl an unterschiedlichen Probenstrukturen realisiert werden kann. Dadurch konnte ich zeigen, dass die Struktur der aktiven Schicht einen großen Einfluss auf die photovoltaischen Eigenschaften hat. Die Solarzellen erreichten einen Füllfaktor von bis zu 57% und eine Kurzschluss¬spannung von 1 V. In der Vergangenheit konnten bei polymerbasierten Solarzellen Füllfaktoren über 50% nur in Verbindung mit Fullerenen oder nanokristallinen anorganischen Halbleitern als Akzeptoren erreicht werden. Das Resultat, dass bei geeigneter Präparation der Polymer-Vinazen-Schicht vergleichbare Ergebnisse erzielt werden können, ist ein bedeutender Schritt hin zu effizienteren Polymersolarzellen.

Thus, 1,2-bis-C-branched saccharides become available in only a few steps starting from glycals.
