O ser humano não apenas empregou técnicas cada vez mais sofisticadas para a violência, como também transmitiu, através dos séculos, técnicas de conservação e uso de seu saberconviver. Nesse sentido móvel da história, e em consonância com as literaturas do mundo, a partir de suas diversas origens, é possível dizer que existe um “Homo migrans” desde que existe o “Homo sapiens”. Assim, é possível afirmar que as ideias territoriais ou territorializantes com proveniência histórico-espacial permitem, vez ou outra, reconhecer seus esforços para filtrar e isolar a dimensão histórico-móvel e vetorial da história como narrativa, para tentar construir, com a ajuda de ideias estáticas, novos lugares da promessa ou da perda, da abundância ou da queda.

Dabei werden auch bibliophile Druckausgaben digitaler Publikationen und die kontinuierliche Öffentlichkeitsarbeit der Figur Alexander von Humboldts in den Blick genommen, was durch zahlreiche Vernetzungen zwischen Institutionen international gefördert und durch kontinuierliche Kooperationen insbesondere durch das neu gegründete Humboldt Center for Transdisciplinary Studies (HCTS) in China/Changsha erweitert wird. Diskutiert wird die wissenschaftliche Bedeutung der graphischen und visuellen Dimension des Humboldt’schen Archivs, die durch die digitale Aufbereitung des Materials Forscher:innen weltweit miteinander verbindet und neue Forschungskonzepte eröffnet.
N2  - The article opens up the beginnings, results and successes of the philological work on the digital scholarly editions in the current project of the BBAW long-term project “Travelling Humboldt – Science on the Move” and gives an overview of the future of philological methods within the Digital Humanities. It focuses also on bibliophilic print editions of digital publications and the ongoing public relations work of Alexander von Humboldt’s figure, which is promoted internationally through numerous networks between institutions and expanded through ongoing collaborations, especially through the newly founded Humboldt Center for Transdisciplinary Studies (HCTS) in China/Changsha. The article discusses the scientific significance of the graphic and visual dimension of Humboldt’s archive, which connects researchers worldwide through the digital realization of the material and gives rise to new research concepts.

Am deutlichsten vielleicht belegt dies der enorme Erfolg von Daniel Kehlmanns Roman Die Vermessung der Welt, der ohne die zuvor skizzierte Entwicklung nicht denkbar gewesen wäre. Es ist vor diesem Hintergrund nicht nur reizvoll, sondern aufschlußreich, sich mit dem großen Erfolg dieses kleinen Romans zu beschäftigen. Worum geht es in Die Vermessung der Welt? Und wie läßt sich das »Phänomen Kehlmann« aus etwas größerer Distanz erklären?
N2  - In the last 25 years, Alexander von Humboldt‘s popularity has radically changed in the german-speaking public opinion. Proof of this are not only television surveys about the most famous germans - in which Alexander von Humboldt now regularly figures - or television series about contemporary expeditions, which constantly refer to Humboldt‘s name; perhaps what most clearly verifies this change is the great success of Daniel Kehlmann‘s novel Die Vermessung der Welt. Without the recent developments outlined above, this novel‘s degree of impact would have been unimaginable. To study the great success of this text against this backdrop is not only attractive, but also revealing. What is Die Vermessung der Welt really about? And how can we explain the »Kehlmann phenomenon« from a greater distance?
N2  - La popularidad de Alejandro de Humboldt ha cambiado profundamente dentro del último cuarto de siglo en la opinión pública de habla alemana. Prueba de esto son no sólo las encuestas televisivas sobre los alemanes más famosos, dentro de las cuales figura en estos momentos Alejandro de Humboldt, o programas de televisión sobre expediciones actuales, en los que continuamente se retoma el nombre de Humboldt; quizás la comprobación más clara de este cambio es el éxito enorme de la novela Die Vermessung der Welt de Daniel Kehlmann. Éxito que sería impensable sin el proceso esbozado más arriba. Ante este trasfondo, estudiar el gran éxito de esta pequeña novela resulta no sólo atractivo, sino además revelador. ¿De qué se trata Die Vermessung der Welt? ¿Cómo se puede explicar el »fenómeno Kehlmann« desde una distancia relativamente mayor?

N2  - Alexander von Humboldt hat im Verlauf eines langen Gelehrtenlebens geduldig an der Ausformulierung und Gestaltung einer Wissenschaft von der Welt gearbeitet, an der Vision von jenem Kosmos, dem er während der letzten Jahrzehnte seines Lebens seinen bis heute faszinierenden Entwurf einer physischen Weltbeschreibung widmete. Dabei bildete die selbstkritische Hinterfragung eigener, kulturell geprägter Forschungsansätze im Kontext jeweils spezifischer Kulturen des Wissens ein entscheidendes Kriterium seines wissenschaftlichen Handelns. Wissenschaft von der Welt ist bei Humboldt verbunden mit dem Anspruch, die Welt in ihren komplexen Zusammenhängen neu zu denken: transdisziplinär, interkulturell, kosmopolitisch. So verstanden ist Humboldt keineswegs der "letzte Universalgelehrte", sondern vielmehr Pionier und Vertreter einer neuen Wissenschaftskonzeption, deren Potentiale bis heute noch nicht ausgeschöpft sind.

Durch seine Forschungsreisen nach Amerika und Asien vermehrte er im Verlauf eines langen Gelehrtenlebens viele Sammlungen durch eigene Sammeltätigkeit vor Ort. Seine Feldforschung blieb dabei nicht auf naturwissenschaftliche Aspekte begrenzt, sondern bezog ganz selbstverständlich auch die verschiedenartigsten kulturwissenschaftlichen Forschungsgegenstände mitein. Diese transdisziplinär agierende Praxis im Feld lässt sich zugleich als eine transareale, einzelne Areas übergreifende und damit im Sinne von TransArea Studies aus den Beziehungen, Zirkulationen und Wechselwirkungen jenseits des bloß Territorialen sich speisende Wissenschaftskonzeption begreifen. So lässt sich in seiner Auseinandersetzung mit der amerikanischen Tropenwelt eine doppelte transareale Relationalität erkennen, die einerseits intern die Tropenwelt unterschiedlicher Kontinente miteinander verbindet, andererseits aber extern die Tropen insbesondere mit den gemäßigten Zonen in Relation setzt, um dadurch erst globale Zusammenhänge - einschließlich der sich verändernden Schneegrenzen oder der Wanderungsbewegungen der Pflanzenformen, für die sich die mobile Wissenschaft Humboldts in besonderem Maße interessierte - skizzieren und erläutern zu können. Die Tropen sind für ihn die Zone höchster Mannigfaltigkeit und Vielverbundenheit - oder um es mit heutigen Begriffen zum Ausdruck zu bringen: die TransArea par excellence.
N2  - Although Alexander von Humboldt certainly perceived himself not as director of a museum, he was commited to the world of museums, libraries, and archives, not only as a visitor and reader, but also as a collector and researcher. Through his travels to America and Asia and in the course of a long scholarly life, he significantly increased many collections through his own activities as collector on site. His research in the field was not merely limited to aspects of the natural sciences, but inherently incorporated the most diverse objects of cultural research. In the light of what we today might call TransArea Studies, this transdisciplinary practice in the field can also be understood as transareal, thus as a conceptualization of research that spans across particular areas and focuses on the relationships, circulations and interactions of space beyond the territorial definitions. Consequently, we can recognize in Humboldt’s examination of the American tropics a double transareal association. On the one hand, his works interconnect the tropical world of different continents, while setting up on the other hand relations with the temperate zones in an extrapolation that outlines and explains global relations of nature - including the changing snow limits or the migration of plants, so crucial for the mobile science Humboldt advocated. For Humboldt, the tropics are the epitome of diversity and multiple connectedness. In other words: the transarea par excellence.

N2  - Since 1793, Alexander von Humboldt had been dreaming of realizing a travel to Russia, leading him right into Central Asia. In 1829, he finally was able to see his dream fulfilled, although the contexts and conditions of his travel to Russia were totally different from those of his voyage to the Americas, realized some thirty years earlier. Severely controlled by the Russian monarchy, the travellers made it up to the Chinese border, rapidly crossing, within very few months and with the help of more than 12000 horses, more than 18000 kilometers. This article analizes the outstanding importance of Humboldt's Asian project in the context of Humboldtian Science, specially focussing the relevance of TransArea studies within its omnipresent AsiAmerican dimensions. Therefore, Asie centrale occupies a highly specific place within the complex cosmos of Humboldt's writings, highlighting a fascinating transdisciplinary and geoecological approach still of great importance today.
N2  - Desde el año 1793, Alejandro de Humboldt soñaba con un viaje a Rusia que debería llevarle hasta el interior de la Asia central. Este viaje, realizado por fin en 1829, se caracterizó por condiciones muy diferentes del viaje americano llevado a cabo unos treinta años antes. Bajo el control muy estricto de la monarquía rusa, los viajeros recorrieron, en pocos meses y con más de 12000 caballos, más de 18000 kilómetros, llegando hasta la frontera china. Este ensayo analiza la importancia del viaje asiático dentro del contexto de la ciencia humboldtiana, destacando sobre todo la omnipresencia de lo americano que subraya una epistemología que se basa en su dimensión transareal. De esta forma, Asie centrale ocupa un lugar muy preciso y a la vez destacado dentro del cosmos humboldtiano, abriéndose hacia concepciones transdisciplinarias y geoecológicas que no han perdido nada de su actualidad.

Prueba de esto son no sólo las encuestas televisivas sobre los alemanes más famosos, dentro de las cuales figura en estos momentos Alejandro de Humboldt, o programas de televisión sobre expediciones actuales, en los que continuamente se retoma el nombre de Humboldt; quizás la comprobación más clara de este cambio es el éxito enorme de la novela Die Vermessung der Welt de Daniel Kehlmann. Éxito que sería impensable sin el proceso esbozado más arriba. Ante este trasfondo, estudiar el gran éxito de esta pequeña novela resulta no sólo atractivo, sino además revelador. ¿De qué se trata Die Vermessung der Welt? ¿Cómo se puede explicar el »fenómeno Kehlmann« desde una distancia relativamente mayor?
N2  - Wie stark sich im Verlauf des zurückliegenden Vierteljahrhunderts der Bekanntheitsgrad Alexander von Humboldts in der deutschsprachigen Öffentlichkeit verändert hat, zeigen nicht nur Fernsehumfragen zu den berühmtesten Deutschen, in denen Alexander von Humboldt mittlerweile figuriert, oder Fernsehserien, die über aktuelle Expeditionen berichten und auf Humboldts Namen zurückgreifen. Am deutlichsten vielleicht belegt dies der enorme Erfolg von Daniel Kehlmanns Roman Die Vermessung der Welt, der ohne die zuvor skizzierte Entwicklung nicht denkbar gewesen wäre. Es ist vor diesem Hintergrund nicht nur reizvoll, sondern aufschlußreich, sich mit dem großen Erfolg dieses kleinen Romans zu beschäftigen. Worum geht es in Die Vermessung der Welt? Und wie läßt sich das »Phänomen Kehlmann« aus etwas größerer Distanz erklären?

Proof of this are not only television surveys about the most famous germans - in which Alexander von Humboldt now regularly figures - or television series about contemporary expeditions, which constantly refer to Humboldt‘s name; perhaps what most clearly verifies this change is the great success of Daniel Kehlmann‘s novel Die Vermessung der Welt. Without the recent developments outlined above, this novel‘s degree of impact would have been unimaginable. To study the great success of this text against this backdrop is not only attractive, but also revealing. What is Die Vermessung der Welt really about? And how can we explain this »Kehlmann phenomenon« from a greater distance?
