N2  - For the longest time historians have treated the infamous Libelo de Sevilla (1480) as an authentic document of the heresy of "Judaizing" allegedly wide spread among the so-called marrano or converso population. However, a closer look however reveals that the pamphlet is much more likely to be the fabrication of Old Christian agitators aiming to discredit both converts from Judaism and their allies.

Unter starkem Druck und zum Teil mit Gewalt wurde die zuvor große jüdische Bevölkerung gedrängt, sich taufen zu lassen. Gleichwohl akzeptierten große Teile der christlichen Mehrheit die Neubekehrten nicht als gleichwertig und bezweifelten ihre Rechtgläubigkeit. Gegen diese Diskriminierung wandten sich immer wieder Geistliche und Gelehrte mit Predigten, Briefen und Denkschriften. Die vorliegende Studie zeichnet erstmals detailliert die wesentlichen Inhalte ihrer Theologie nach, ihre spezielle Auslegung der Bibel und deren Wurzeln in Recht und Tradition der lateinischen Kirche.
N2  - The 15th century saw the last wave of mass conversions to the Christian faith on the Iberian Peninsula. The formerly large Jewish population there was coerced, sometimes with open violence, to accept baptism. However, significant parts of the Christian majority never accepted the converts as equals and doubted their professed faith. This discrimination was in turn denounced by various prelates and scholars in sermons, letters and treatises. This study is the first to take an in-depth look at the key tenets of their theology, their specific interpretation of the Bible, and its roots in canon law and in the tradition of the Western Church.
