  abstract  = {Die Bedeutung des Ersten Weltkriegs als zentraler Kontext f{\"u}r die Aushandlung, Anpassung und Verwerfung unterschiedlicher Konzepte j{\"u}discher Identit{\"a}t im Deutschen Kaiserreich, aber auch {\"u}ber dessen Grenzen hinaus, wurde in der j{\"u}ngsten Forschung in verschiedenen Aspekten er{\"o}rtert. Die Kriegserfahrung gab insbesondere nationalj{\"u}dischen bzw. zionistischen Gruppierungen wichtige Denkanst{\"o}ße und bef{\"o}rderte die Konkretisierung ihrer Handlungsstrategien f{\"u}r den Aufbau eines j{\"u}dischen Nationalwesens in Pal{\"a}stina. Die vorliegende Studie m{\"o}chte den Fokus historisch-soziologischer Forschung auf der akademischen zionistischen Jugendbewegung erweitern, indem sie eine zionistische Jugendorganisation in den Mittelpunkt r{\"u}ckt, die in wissenschaftlichen Betrachtungen bisher kaum Beachtung fand: den 1912 in Halberstadt gegr{\"u}ndeten Herzl-Bund, einen Zusammenschluss junger zionistisch gesinnter Kaufleute. Die Autorin unternimmt eine Auseinandersetzung mit dem publizistischen Schaffen seiner Mitglieder im Kontext des Ersten Weltkriegs, anhand derer es nachzuvollziehen gilt, wie die „großen Themen", die die Arbeit und Debatten der zionistischen Bewegung im Deutschen Kaiserreich zu dieser Zeit bestimmten, auf der Ebene des Herzl-Bundes und der in ihm vereinigten Herzl-Clubs verhandelt wurden. Hierbei wird unter R{\"u}ckgriff auf die interne Informationsschrift, die Herzl-Bund-Bl{\"a}tter, untersucht, welche inhaltlichen Aspekte Eingang in die Debatten der zionistischen Jugend gefunden haben. Im Mittelpunkt steht die Besprechung dreier Themenkomplexe: 1) deutsch-j{\"u}discher Nationalismus versus j{\"u}dische Nationalbewegung, 2) Antisemitismus und 3) die Begegnung mit osteurop{\"a}ischen J{\"u}dinnen und Juden. Ziel ist es, diskursive Selbstverst{\"a}ndigungsprozesse entlang dieser Themen offenzulegen, die auch der Beantwortung der Frage dienen, ob die Erfahrungen des Ersten Weltkriegs als Schablonen zur Neubewertung des Selbstverst{\"a}ndnisses und der eigenen Arbeit des Herzl-Bundes verstanden werden k{\"o}nnen.},

  abstract  = {This article elucidates the efforts of Chilean-Jewish activists to create, manage and protect Chilean Yiddish culture. It illuminates how Yiddish cultural leaders in small diasporas, such as Chile, worked to maintain dialogue with other Jewish centers. Chilean culturists maintained that a unique Latin American Jewish culture existed and needed to be strengthened through the joint efforts of all Yiddish actors on the continent. Chilean activists envisioned a modern Jewish culture informed by both Eastern European influences and local Jewish cultural production, as well as by exchanges with non-Jewish Latin American majority cultures.},

  abstract  = {This article discusses the filmic representation of the infamous Wannsee Conference, when fifteen senior German officials met at a villa on the shore of a Berlin lake to discuss and co-ordinate the implementation of the so-called final solution to the Jewish question. The understanding reached during the course of the ninety-minute meeting cleared the way for the Europe-wide killing of six million Jews. The article sets out to answer the principal challenge facing anyone attempting to recreate the Wannsee Conference on film: what was the atmosphere of this conference and the attitude of the participants? Moreover, it discusses various ethical aspects related to the portrayal of evil, not in actions but in words, using the medium of film. In doing so, it focuses on the BBC/HBO television film Conspiracy (2001), directed by Frank Pierson, probing its historical accuracy and discussing its artistic credibility.},
