While scholars of seventeenth-century republicanism share their enthusiasm for their field, they have approached their subject in diverse ways. The contributors to the present volume have taken the opportunity to bring these approaches together in a number of case studies covering republican language, republican literary and political culture, and republican religion, to paint a lively picture of the state of the art in republican scholarship. The volume begins with three chapters influenced by the theory and methodology of the linguistic turn, before moving on to address cultural history approaches to English republicanism, including both literary culture and (practical) political culture. The final section of the volume looks at how religion intersected with ideas of republican thought. Taken together the essays demonstrate the vitality and diversity of what was once regarded as a narrow topic of political research.}, language = {en} } @book{KunowStehlFranzetal.2011, author = {Kunow, R{\"u}diger and Stehl, Thomas and Franz, Norbert and Rowe, John Carlos and R{\"o}der, Katrin and Priewe, Marc and Goldschweer, Ulrike and Kraft, Tobias and Drexler, Peter and Marszałek, Magdalena and Kirjuchina, Ljuba and Talabardon, Susanne and Wiemann, Dirk and Uffelmann, Dirk}, title = {Kulturelle Mobilit{\"a}tsforschung : Themen - Theorien - Tendenzen}, editor = {Franz, Norbert P. and Kunow, R{\"u}diger}, publisher = {Universit{\"a}tsverlag Potsdam}, address = {Potsdam}, isbn = {978-3-86956-090-8}, url = {http://nbn-resolving.de/urn:nbn:de:kobv:517-opus-52593}, publisher = {Universit{\"a}t Potsdam}, pages = {392}, year = {2011}, abstract = {Mobilit{\"a}t ist eine der Schl{\"u}sselerfahrungen unserer Zeit. Sie scheint im Gefolge technisch-{\"o}konomischer und politisch-sozialer Ver{\"a}nderungen allumfassend geworden zu sein. Dabei ver{\"a}ndern die Erfahrungen, die Menschen in und mit Mobilit{\"a}t machen, auch die Funktion und den Stellenwert ihrer Kulturen. Durch die anhaltende Mobilit{\"a}t werden Kulturen aus ihren traditionellen nationalen Verankerungen gel{\"o}st (werden also selbst mobil), die mobiler gewordenen Menschen sind aber mehr als zuvor darauf angewiesen, zur Bew{\"a}ltigung ihrer Erfahrungen auf ihre kulturellen Ressourcen zur{\"u}ckzugreifen (sie zu mobilisieren). Diese Ambivalenz von Kulturen in/der Mobilit{\"a}t ist f{\"u}r die Beitr{\"a}ge des vorliegenden Bandes erkenntnisleitend. Im Kontext der zahlreichen Publikationen zu den Themen Globalisierung, Migration und Kultur stellt das Potsdamer Forschungsprojekt insofern eine Besonderheit dar, als es linguistische und literaturwissenschaftliche, historische und systematische, empirische und theoretische Zugriffsweisen auf innovative Weise verbindet. Das besondere des hier leitenden Ansatzes besteht darin, dass hier nicht einfach Kulturen als geschlossene Systeme vergleichend gegen{\"u}berstellt werden, sondern Formen und Szenarien der interkulturellen Begegnung im Mittelpunkt der Betrachtung stehen werden. Diese Szenarien sind von ihrem Wesen bzw. ihrer Verfasstheit solcherart, dass sie mit Bezug auf eine nationale Kultur nicht mehr angemessen zu beschreiben w{\"a}ren. Sie stellen vielmehr Momente des Aushandelns nicht konvertierbarer kultureller Andersartigkeit dar, die zur Reflexion und Vermittlung mit der Eigenkultur zwingen.}, language = {de} } @article{Wiemann2011, author = {Wiemann, Dirk}, title = {The boomerang effect of colonial practice}, series = {Mobilisierte Kulturen}, journal = {Mobilisierte Kulturen}, number = {1}, issn = {2192-3019}, url = {http://nbn-resolving.de/urn:nbn:de:kobv:517-opus-57445}, pages = {353 -- 376}, year = {2011}, language = {en} } @misc{Wiemann2014, author = {Wiemann, Dirk}, title = {George, Rosemary Marangoly, Indian English and the Fiction of National Literature / [rezensiert von] Dirk Wiemann}, series = {Zeitschrift f{\"u}r Anglistik und Amerikanistik : ZAA ;
