Case studies ranging from the German reception of James Cook's voyages through to the legacies of 19th- and 20th-century settler colonialism foreground the highly ambiguous roles played by explorers, missionaries, intellectuals and other individuals, as well as by objects and things that travelled between worlds - ancestral human remains, rare animal skins, songs, and even military tanks. The chapters foreground the complex relationship between science, religion, art and exploitation, displacement and annihilation.}, language = {en} } @unpublished{PolkovnikovTarkhanov2017, author = {Polkovnikov, Alexander and Tarkhanov, Nikolai Nikolaevich}, title = {A Riemann-Hilbert problem for the Moisil-Teodorescu system}, volume = {6}, number = {3}, url = {http://nbn-resolving.de/urn:nbn:de:kobv:517-opus4-397036}, pages = {31}, year = {2017}, abstract = {In a bounded domain with smooth boundary in R^3 we consider the stationary Maxwell equations for a function u with values in R^3 subject to a nonhomogeneous condition (u,v)_x = u_0 on the boundary, where v is a given vector field and u_0 a function on the boundary. We specify this problem within the framework of the Riemann-Hilbert boundary value problems for the Moisil-Teodorescu system. This latter is proved to satisfy the Shapiro-Lopaniskij condition if an only if the vector v is at no point tangent to the boundary. The Riemann-Hilbert problem for the Moisil-Teodorescu system fails to possess an adjoint boundary value problem with respect to the Green formula, which satisfies the Shapiro-Lopatinskij condition. We develop the construction of Green formula to get a proper concept of adjoint boundary value problem.}, language = {en} } @unpublished{AbutalebiClahsen2015, author = {Abutalebi, Jubin and Clahsen, Harald}, title = {Bilingualism, cognition, and aging}, series = {Bilingualism : language and cognition.}, volume = {18}, journal = {Bilingualism : language and cognition.}, number = {1}, publisher = {Cambridge Univ. One topic that has done so, however, is the potential benefits of bilingualism for general cognitive functioning and development, and as a precaution against cognitive decline in old age. Sensational claims have been made in the public domain, mostly by journalists and politicians. Recently (September 4, 2014) The Guardian reported that "learning a foreign language can increase the size of your brain", and Michael Gove, the UK's previous Education Secretary, noted in an interview with The Guardian (September 30, 2011) that "learning languages makes you smarter". The present issue of BLC addresses these topics by providing a state-of-the-art overview of theoretical and experimental research on the role of bilingualism for cognition in children and adults.}, language = {en} } @unpublished{ChattopadhyayChakrabortyGrossartetal.2015, author = {Chattopadhyay, Madhab K. and Chakraborty, Ranadhir and Grossart, Hans-Peter and Reddy, Gundlapally S. and Jagannadham, Medicharla V.}, title = {Antibiotic resistance of bacteria}, series = {BioMed research international}, journal = {BioMed research international}, publisher = {Hindawi Publishing Corp.}, address = {New York}, issn = {2314-6133}, doi = {10.1155/2015/501658}, pages = {2}, year = {2015}, language = {en} } @unpublished{SeelaenderLavianoBusquetsetal.2015, author = {Seelaender, Marilia and Laviano, A. and Busquets, S. and P{\"u}schel, Gerhard Paul and Margaria, T. and Batista Jr., Miguel Luiz}, title = {Inflammation in Cachexia}, series = {Mediators of inflammation}, journal = {Mediators of inflammation}, publisher = {Hindawi Publishing Corp.}, address = {New York}, issn = {0962-9351}, doi = {10.1155/2015/536954}, pages = {2}, year = {2015}, language = {en} } @unpublished{Kohler2015, author = {Kohler, Ulrich}, title = {Maintaining quality}, series = {Survey research methods}, volume = {9}, journal = {Survey research methods}, number = {3}, publisher = {European Survey Research Association}, address = {Duisburg}, issn = {1864-3361}, pages = {139 -- 140}, year = {2015}, abstract = {Survey Research Methods has slightly revised its publication policies.
