The pandemic is fortunately over. It has once again shown how important digital education is. How well-prepared a country was could be seen in our schools, universities, and companies. In different countries, the problems manifested themselves differently. The measures and approaches to solving the problems varied accordingly. Digital education, whether micro-credentials, MOOCs, blended learning formats, or other e-learning tools, received a major boost. EMOOCs 2023 focusses on the effects of this emergency situation. How has it affected the development and delivery of MOOCs and other e-learning offerings all over Europe? Which projects can serve as models for successful digital learning and teaching? Which roles can MOOCs and micro-credentials bear in the current business transformation? Is there a backlash to the routine we knew from pre-Corona times? Or have many things become firmly established in the meantime, e.g. remote work, hybrid conferences, etc.? Furthermore, EMOOCs 2023 has a closer look at the development and formalization of digital learning. Micro-credentials are just the starting point. Further steps in this direction would be complete online study programs or full online universities. Another main topic is the networking of learning offers and the standardization of formats and metadata. Examples of fruitful cooperations are the MOOChub, the European MOOC Consortium, and the Common Micro-Credential Framework. The learnings, derived from practical experience and research, are explored in EMOOCs 2023 in four tracks and additional workshops, covering various aspects of this field. To ensure management programs act to maintain these highly diverse plant communities, it is necessary to get a profound understanding of the crucial mechanisms of coexistence. In the current literature several mechanisms are discussed. The objective of my thesis is to systematically explore the importance of potential mechanisms for maintaining multi-species, fire prone vegetation by modelling. The model I developed is spatially-explicit, stochastic, rule- and individual-based. It is parameterised on data of population dynamics collected over 18 years in the Mediterranean-type shrublands of Eneabba, Western Australia. From 156 woody species of the area seven plant traits have been identified to be relevant for this study: regeneration mode, annual maximum seed production, seed size, maximum crown diameter, drought tolerance, dispersal mode and seed bank type. Trait sets are used for the definition of plant functional types (PFTs). The PFT dynamics are simulated annual by iterating life history processes. In the first part of my thesis I investigate the importance of trade-offs for the maintenance of high diversity in multi-species systems with 288 virtual PFTs. Simulation results show that the trade-off concept can be helpful to identify non-viable combinations of plant traits. However, the Shannon Diversity Index of modelled communities can be high despite of the presence of 'supertypes'. I conclude, that trade-offs between two traits are less important to explain multi-species coexistence and high diversity than it is predicted by more conceptual models. Several studies show, that seed immigration from the regional seed pool is essential for maintaining local species diversity. However, systematical studies on the seed rain composition to multi-species communities are missing. The results of the simulation experiments, as presented in part two of this thesis, show clearly, that without seed immigration the local species community found in Eneabba drifts towards a state with few coexisting PFTs. With increasing immigration rates the number of simulated coexisting PFTs and Shannon diversity quickly approaches values as also observed in the field. Including the regional seed input in the model is suited to explain more aggregated measures of the local plant community structure such as species richness and diversity. Hence, the seed rain composition should be implemented in future studies. In the third part of my thesis I test the sensitivity of Eneabba PFTs to four different climate change scenarios, considering their impact on both local and regional processes. The results show that climate change clearly has the potential to alter the number of dispersed seeds for most of the Eneabba PFTs and therefore the source of the 'immigrants' at the community level. A classification tree analysis shows that, in general, the response to climate change was PFT-specific. In the Eneabba sand plains sensitivity of a PFT to climate change depends on its specific trait combination and on the scenario of environmental change i.e. development of the amount of rainfall and the fire frequency. This result emphasizes that PFT-specific responses and regional process seed immigration should not be ignored in studies dealing with the impact of climate change on future species distribution. The results of the three chapters are finally analysed in a general discussion. The model is discussed and improvements and suggestions are made for future research. My work leads to the following conclusions: i) It is necessary to support modelling with empirical work to explain coexistence in species-rich plant communities. ii) The chosen modelling approach allows considering the complexity of coexistence and improves the understanding of coexistence mechanisms. iii) Field research based assumptions in terms of environmental conditions and plant life histories can relativise the importance of more hypothetic coexistence theories in species-rich systems. In consequence, trade-offs can play a lower role than predicted by conceptual models. iv) Seed immigration is a key process for local coexistence. Its alteration because of climate change should be considered for prognosis of coexistence. Field studies should be carried out to get data on seed rain composition.}, language = {en} } @article{EstevamOFernandes2015, author = {Estevam O. AOXs in mammals contain one molybdenum cofactor (Moco), one flavin adenine dinucleotide (FAD) and two [2Fe-2S] clusters, the presence of which is essential for the activity of the enzyme. Human aldehyde oxidase (hAOX1) is a cytosolic enzyme mainly expressed in the liver. hAOX1is involved in the metabolism of xenobiotics. It oxidizes aldehydes to their corresponding carboxylic acids and hydroxylates N-heterocyclic compounds. Since these functional groups are widely present in therapeutics, understanding the behaviour of hAOX1 has important implications in medicine. During the catalytic cycle of hAOX1, the substrate is oxidized at Moco and electrons are internally transferred to FAD via the FeS clusters. An electron acceptor juxtaposed to the FAD receives the electrons and re-oxidizes the enzyme for the next catalytic cycle. Molecular oxygen is the endogenous electron acceptor of hAOX1 and in doing so it is reduced and produces reactive oxygen species (ROS) including hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and superoxide (O2.-). The production of ROS has patho-physiological importance, as ROS can have a wide range of effects on cell components including the enzyme itself. In this thesis, we have shown that hAOX1 loses its activity over multiple cycles of catalysis due to endogenous ROS production and have identified a cysteine rich motif that protects hAOX1 from the ROS damaging effects. We have also shown that a sulfido ligand, which is bound at Moco and is essential for the catalytic activity of the enzyme, is vulnerable during turnover. The ROS produced during the course of the reaction are also able to remove this sulfido ligand from Moco. ROS, in addition, oxidize particular cysteine residues. The combined effects of ROS on the sulfido ligand and on specific cysteine residues in the enzyme result in its inactivation. Furthermore, we report that small reducing agents containing reactive sulfhydryl groups, in a selective manner, inactivate some of the mammalian AOXs by modifying the sulfido ligand at Moco. The mechanism of ROS production by hAOX1 is another scope that has been investigated as part of the work in this thesis. We have shown that the ratio of type of ROS, i.e. hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and superoxide (O2.-), produced by hAOX1 is determined by a particular position on a flexible loop that locates in close proximity of FAD. The size of the cavity at the ROS producing site, i.e. the N5 position of the FAD isoalloxazine ring, kinetically affects the amount of each type of ROS generated by hAOX1. Taken together, hAOX1 is an enzyme with emerging importance in pharmacological and medical studies, not only due to its involvement in drug metabolism, but also due to ROS production which has physiological and pathological implications.}, language = {en} } @phdthesis{Esen2023, author = {Esen, Cansu}, title = {Carbon nitride incorporation in polymer networks}, doi = {10.25932/publishup-57625}, url = {http://nbn-resolving.de/urn:nbn:de:kobv:517-opus4-576253}, school = {Universit{\"a}t Potsdam}, pages = {xvi, 175}, year = {2023}, abstract = {The urge of light utilization in fabrication of materials is as encouraging as challenging. Steadily increasing energy consumption in accordance with rapid population growth, is requiring a corresponding solution within the same rate of occurrence speed. Therefore, creating, designing and manufacturing materials that can interact with light and in further be applicable as well as disposable in photo-based applications are very much under attention of researchers. In the era of sustainability for renewable energy systems, semiconductor-based photoactive materials have received great attention not only based on solar and/or hydrocarbon fuels generation from solar energy, but also successful stimulation of photocatalytic reactions such as water splitting, pollutant degradation and organic molecule synthesisThe turning point had been reached for water splitting with an electrochemical cell consisting of TiO2-Pt electrode illuminated by UV light as energy source rather than an external voltage, that successfully pursued water photolysis by Fujishima and Honda in 1972. Ever since, there has been a great deal of interest in research of semiconductors (e.g. metal oxide, metal-free organic, noble-metal complex) exhibiting effective band gap for photochemical reactions. In the case of environmental friendliness, toxicity of metal-based semiconductors brings some restrictions in possible applications. Regarding this, very robust and 'earth-abundant' organic semiconductor, graphitic carbon nitride has been synthesized and successfully applied in photoinduced applications as novel photocatalyst. Time- and element-resolved x-ray magnetic circular dichroism measurements can provide insight into the microscopic processes behind ultrafast demagnetization as well as its dependence on materials properties. Using the BESSY II Femtoslicing facility, a storage ring based source of 100 fs short soft x-ray pulses, ultrafast magnetization dynamics of ferromagnetic NiFe and GdTb alloys as well as a Au/Ni layered structure were investigated in laser pump - x-ray probe experiments. After laser excitation, the constituents of Ni50Fe50 and Ni80Fe20 exhibit distinctly different time constants of demagnetization, leading to decoupled dynamics, despite the strong exchange interaction that couples the Ni and Fe sublattices under equilibrium conditions. Furthermore, the time constants of demagnetization for Ni and Fe are different in Ni50Fe50 and Ni80Fe20, and also different from the values for the respective pure elements. These variations are explained by taking the magnetic moments of the Ni and Fe sublattices, which are changed from the pure element values due to alloying, as well as the strength of the intersublattice exchange interaction into account. GdTb exhibits demagnetization in two steps, typical for rare earths. The time constant of the second, slower magnetization decay was previously linked to the strength of spin-lattice coupling in pure Gd and Tb, with the stronger, direct spin-lattice coupling in Tb leading to a faster demagnetization. In GdTb, the demagnetization of Gd follows Tb on all timescales. This is due to the opening of an additional channel for the dissipation of spin angular momentum to the lattice, since Gd magnetic moments in the alloy are coupled via indirect exchange interaction to neighboring Tb magnetic moments, which are in turn strongly coupled to the lattice. Time-resolved measurements of the ultrafast demagnetization of a Ni layer buried under a Au cap layer, thick enough to absorb nearly all of the incident pump laser light, showed a somewhat slower but still sub-picosecond demagnetization of the buried Ni layer in Au/Ni compared to a Ni reference sample. Although used for decades to control pests, the impact of green lacewing larvae Chrysoperla carnea (Stephens) on plant biochemistry was not investigated. Here, we used profiling methods and targeted analyses to explore the impact of the predator and herbivore(s)-predator interactions on tomato biochemistry. Each pest and pest -predator combination induced a characteristic metabolite signature in the leaf and the fruit thus, the plant exhibited a systemic response. The treatments had a stronger impact on non-volatile metabolites including abscisic acid and amino acids in the leaves in comparison with the fruits. In contrast, the various biotic factors had a greater impact on the carotenoids in the fruits. We identified volatiles such as myrcene and alpha-terpinene which were induced by pest -predator interactions but not by single species, and we demonstrated the involvement of the phytohormone abscisic acid in tritrophic interactions for the first time. More importantly, C. carnea larvae alone impacted the plant metabolome, but the predator did not appear to elicit particular defense pathways on its own. Since the presence of both C. carnea larvae and pest individuals elicited volatiles which were shown to contribute to plant defense, C. carnea larvae could therefore contribute to the reduction of pest infestation, not only by its preying activity, but also by priming responses to generalist herbivores such as T urticae and M. persicae. On the other hand, the use of C. carnea larvae alone did not impact carotenoids thus, was not prejudicial to the fruit quality. Polymerization of hydrophobic monomers in the cell wall is one of the potential approaches to improve the dimensional stability of wood. A major challenge is to insert hydrophobic monomers into the hydrophilic environment of the cell walls, without increasing the bulk density of the material due to lumen filling. Here, we report on an innovative and simple method to insert styrene monomers into tosylated cell walls (i.e. -OH groups from natural wood polymers are reacted with tosyl chloride) and carry out free radical polymerization under relatively mild conditions, generating low wood weight gains. In-depth SEM and confocal Raman microscopy analysis are applied to reveal the distribution of the polystyrene in the cell walls and the lumen. However, its wider utilization as an engineering material is limited because it swells and shrinks upon moisture changes and is susceptible to degradation by microorganisms and/or insects. Chemical modifications of wood have been shown to improve dimensional stability, water repellence and/or durability, thus increasing potential service-life of wood materials. However current treatments are limited because it is difficult to introduce and fix such modifications deep inside the tissue and cell wall. Within the scope of this thesis, novel chemical modification methods of wood cell walls were developed to improve both dimensional stability and water repellence of wood material. These methods were partly inspired by the heartwood formation in living trees, a process, that for some species results in an insertion of hydrophobic chemical substances into the cell walls of already dead wood cells, In the first part of this thesis a chemistry to modify wood cell walls was used, which was inspired by the natural process of heartwood formation. Commercially available hydrophobic flavonoid molecules were effectively inserted in the cell walls of spruce, a softwood species with low natural durability, after a tosylation treatment to obtain "artificial heartwood". Flavonoid inserted cell walls show a reduced moisture absorption, resulting in better dimensional stability, water repellency and increased hardness. This approach was quite different compared to established modifications which mainly address hydroxyl groups of cell wall polymers with hydrophilic substances. In the second part of the work in-situ styrene polymerization inside the tosylated cell walls was studied. It is known that there is a weak adhesion between hydrophobic polymers and hydrophilic cell wall components. The hydrophobic styrene monomers were inserted into the tosylated wood cell walls for further polymerization to form polystyrene in the cell walls, which increased the dimensional stability of the bulk wood material and reduced water uptake of the cell walls considerably when compared to controls. In the third part of the work, grafting of another hydrophobic and also biodegradable polymer, poly(ɛ-caprolactone) in the wood cell walls by ring opening polymerization of ɛ-caprolactone was studied at mild temperatures. Results indicated that polycaprolactone attached into the cell walls, caused permanent swelling of the cell walls up to 5\%. Dimensional stability of the bulk wood material increased 40\% and water absorption reduced more than 35\%. A fully biodegradable and hydrophobized wood material was obtained with this method which reduces disposal problem of the modified wood materials and has improved properties to extend the material's service-life. Starting from a bio-inspired approach which showed great promise as an alternative to standard cell wall modifications we showed the possibility of inserting hydrophobic molecules in the cell walls and supported this fact with in-situ styrene and ɛ-caprolactone polymerization into the cell walls. It was shown in this thesis that despite the extensive knowledge and long history of using wood as a material there is still room for novel chemical modifications which could have a high impact on improving wood properties.}, language = {en} } @misc{ErlerRiebeBeitzetal.2019, author = {Erler, Alexander and Riebe, Daniel and Beitz, Toralf and L{\"o}hmannsr{\"o}ben, Hans-Gerd and Gebbers, Robin}, title = {Soil Nutrient Detection for Precision Agriculture Using Handheld Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS) and Multivariate Regression Methods (PLSR, Lasso and GPR)}, series = {Postprints der Universit{\"a}t Potsdam : Mathematisch-Naturwissenschaftliche Reihe}, journal = {Postprints der Universit{\"a}t Potsdam : Mathematisch-Naturwissenschaftliche Reihe}, number = {815}, issn = {1866-8372}, doi = {10.25932/publishup-44418}, url = {http://nbn-resolving.de/urn:nbn:de:kobv:517-opus4-444183}, pages = {19}, year = {2019}, abstract = {Precision agriculture (PA) strongly relies on spatially differentiated sensor information. Since the quantification of nutrients by LIBS depends strongly on the soil matrix, various multivariate regression methods were used for calibration and prediction. These include partial least squares regression (PLSR), least absolute shrinkage and selection operator regression (Lasso), and Gaussian process regression (GPR). The best prediction results were obtained for Ca, K, Mg and Fe. The coefficients of determination obtained for other nutrients were smaller. This is due to much lower concentrations in the case of Mn, while the low number of lines and very weak intensities are the reason for the deviation of N and P. Die vorliegende Arbeit besch{\"a}ftigt sich mit zwei Forschungsthemen, die das Konzept Nachhaltigkeit beinhalten. In response, a rapid transition to renewable energy sources has begun, particularly lithium-ion batteries, playing a crucial role in the green energy transformation. However, concerns regarding the availability and geopolitical implications of lithium have prompted the exploration of alternative rechargeable battery systems, such as sodium-ion batteries. Sodium is significantly abundant and more homogeneously distributed in the crust and seawater, making it easier and less expensive to extract than lithium. However, because of the mysterious nature of its components, sodium-ion batteries are not yet sufficiently advanced to take the place of lithium-ion batteries. Specifically, sodium exhibits a more metallic character and a larger ionic radius, resulting in a different ion storage mechanism utilized in lithium-ion batteries. Innovations in synthetic methods, post-treatments, and interface engineering clearly demonstrate the significance of developing high-performance carbonaceous anode materials for sodium-ion batteries. The objective of this dissertation is to present a systematic approach for fabricating efficient, high-performance, and sustainable carbonaceous anode materials for sodium-ion batteries. This will involve a comprehensive investigation of different chemical environments and post-modification techniques as well. This dissertation focuses on three main objectives. Firstly, it explores the significance of post-synthetic methods in designing interfaces. A conformal carbon nitride coating is deposited through chemical vapor deposition on a carbon electrode as an artificial solid-electrolyte interface layer, resulting in improved electrochemical performance. The interaction between the carbon nitride artificial interface and the carbon electrode enhances initial Coulombic efficiency, rate performance, and total capacity. Secondly, a novel process for preparing sulfur-rich carbon as a high-performing anode material for sodium-ion batteries is presented. The method involves using an oligo-3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene precursor for high sulfur content hard carbon anode to investigate the sulfur heteroatom effect on the electrochemical sodium storage mechanism. By optimizing the condensation temperature, a significant transformation in the materials' nanostructure is achieved, leading to improved electrochemical performance. The use of in-operando small-angle X-ray scattering provides valuable insights into the interaction between micropores and sodium ions during the electrochemical processes. Lastly, the development of high-capacity hard carbon, derived from 5-hydroxymethyl furfural, is examined. This carbon material exhibits exceptional performance at both low and high current densities. In recent years, the influence of such forces on the stability of cellular adhesion clusters was increasingly investigated. In particular, experimental methods that were originally designed for the investigation of single bond rupture under force have been applied to investigate the rupture of adhesion clusters. The transition from single to multiple bonds, however, is not trivial and requires theoretical modelling. Rupture of biological adhesion molecules is a thermally activated, stochastic process. In this work, a stochastic model for the rupture and rebinding dynamics of clusters of parallel adhesion molecules under force is presented. In particular, the influence of (i) a constant force as it may be assumed for cellular adhesion clusters is investigated and (ii) the influence of a linearly increasing force as commonly used in experiments is considered. Special attention is paid to the force-mediated cooperativity of parallel adhesion bonds. Finally, the influence of a finite distance between receptors and ligands on the binding dynamics is investigated. Thereby, the distance can be bridged by polymeric linker molecules which tether the ligands to a substrate.}, subject = {Biophysik}, language = {en} } @article{ErdmannRatzlaff2017, author = {Erdmann, Melinda and Ratzlaff, Olaf}, title = {Wahrnehmung und Heterogenit{\"a}t von Fach- und Lehramtsstudierenden im Kontext von Lehrveranstaltungen}, series = {Potsdamer Beitr{\"a}ge zur Hochschulforschung}, journal = {Potsdamer Beitr{\"a}ge zur Hochschulforschung}, number = {3}, publisher = {Universit{\"a}tsverlag Potsdam}, address = {Potsdam}, isbn = {978-3-86956-399-2}, issn = {2192-1075}, url = {http://nbn-resolving.de/urn:nbn:de:kobv:517-opus4-399723}, pages = {181 -- 196}, year = {2017}, language = {de} } @article{Erdmann2019, author = {Erdmann, Melinda}, title = {Alles auf Anfang! A brief examination of the scholarly research on the pragmatics and semiotics of pictorial signs on SNS shows that the heterogeneity of visual signs is often neglected and that it mostly concentrates on one aspect of these pictorial signs: their technological production or their purpose for individual self-disclosure. The paper therefore considers the semiosis of pictorial signs on SNS in a holistic perspective as one the one hand produced by individual and collective meaning making as well as on the other hand a product of technological framing. It therefore develops a techno-semiotic pragmatic account that takes into consideration both processes. Starting from a prominent class of pictorial signs on SNS during Tunisian Revolution, the Tunisian Flag graphics, the paper than shows that communicative and social interaction functions on the graphic interface of SNS ('like'-function, sharing and commenting option) are not only directly inscribed into the pictorial frame, but also greatly influence the reading of a pictorial sign. The location of images on the SNS' interface has an impact on its meaning and on the social functions of a pictorial sign, as profile pictures are directly linked to the online identity of the user. Through technological sign processing, the polysemy of the image is reduced. We therefore consider the images on the one hand as individual self-narratives and on the other as instances of SNS' visual culture that brings out dominant visual codes but also allows social and political movements to spread.}, language = {de} } @article{ErdmannWeber2015, author = {Erdmann, Dominik and Weber, Jutta}, title = {Nachlassgeschichten}, series = {HiN : Alexander von Humboldt im Netz ; International Review for Humboldtian Studies}, volume = {XVI}, journal = {HiN : Alexander von Humboldt im Netz ; International Review for Humboldtian Studies}, number = {31}, publisher = {Universit{\"a}tsverlag Potsdam}, address = {Potsdam}, issn = {1617-5239}, doi = {10.18443/223}, url = {http://nbn-resolving.de/urn:nbn:de:kobv:517-opus4-88997}, pages = {60 -- 79}, year = {2015}, abstract = {Der Artikel schildert die Geschichte verschiedener Teile des Manuskriptnachlasses Alexander von Humboldts, die sich heute in der Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin - Preußischer Kulturbesitz (SBB) und in der Biblioteka Jagiellońska in Krakau (BJ) befinden. Well-preserved rift morphology can provide a wealth of information on the growth, interaction, and linkage of normal-fault systems through time. If rift basins are preserved over longer geologic time periods, sedimentary archives generated during extensional processes may mirror tectonic and climatic influences on erosional and sedimentary processes that have varied over time. Rift basins are furthermore strategic areas for hydrocarbon and geothermal energy exploration, and they play a central role in species dispersal and evolution as well as providing or inhibiting hydrologic connectivity along basins at emerging plate boundaries. The Cenozoic East African rift system (EARS) is one of the most important continental extension zones, reflecting a range of evolutionary stages from an early rift stage with isolated basins in Malawi to an advanced stage of continental extension in southern Afar. Consequently, the EARS is an ideal natural laboratory that lends itself to the study of different stages in the breakup of a continent. The volcanically and seismically active eastern branch of the EARS is characterized by multiple, laterally offset tectonic and magmatic segments where adjacent extensional basins facilitate crustal extension either across a broad deformation zone or via major transfer faulting. The Broadly Rifted Zone (BRZ) in southern Ethiopia is an integral part of the eastern branch of the EARS; in this region, rift segments of the southern Ethiopian Rift (sMER) and northern Kenyan Rift (nKR) propagate in opposite directions in a region with one of the earliest manifestations of volcanism and extensional tectonism in East Africa. The basin margins of the Chew-Bahir Basin and the Gofa Province, characterized by a semi-arid climate and largely uniform lithology, provide ideal conditions for studying the tectonic and geomorphologic features of this complex kinematic transfer zone, but more importantly, this area is suitable for characterizing and quantifying the overlap between the propagating structures of the sMER and nKR and the resulting deformation patterns of the BRZ transfer zones. In this study, I have combined data from thermochronology, thermal modeling, morphometry, paleomagnetic analysis, geochronology, and geomorphological field observations with information from published studies to reconstruct the spatiotemporal relationship between volcanism and fault activity in the BRZ and quantify the deformation patterns of the overlapping rift segments. I present the following results: (1) new thermochronological data from the en-{\´e}chelon basin margins and footwall blocks of the rift flanks and morphometric results verified in the field to link different phases of magmatism and faulting during extension and infer geomorphological landscape features related to the current tectonic interaction between the nKR and the sMER; (2) temporally constrained paleomagnetic data from the BRZ overlap zone between the Ethiopian and Kenyan rifts to quantitatively determine block rotation between the two segments. Combining the collected data, time-temperature histories of thermal modeling results from representative samples show well-defined deformation phases between 25-20 Ma, 15-9Ma, and ~5 Ma to the present. Each deformation phase is characterized by the onset of rapid cooling (>2°C/Ma) of the crust associated with uplift or exhumation of the rift shoulder. After an initial, spatially very diffuse phase of extension, the rift has gradually evolved into a system of connected structures formed in an increasingly focused rift zone during the last 5 Ma. Regarding the morphometric analysis of the rift structures, it can be shown that normalized slope indices of the river courses, spatial arrangement of knickpoints in the river longitudinal profiles of the footwall blocks, local relief values, and the average maximum values of the slope of the river profiles indicate a gradual increase in the extension rate from north (Sawula basin: mature) to south (Chew Bahir: young). The complexity of the structural evolution of the BRZ overlap zone between nKR and sMER is further emphasized by the documentation of crustal blocks around a vertical axis. A comparison of the mean directions obtained for the Eo-Oligocene (Ds=352.6°, Is=-17.0°, N=18, α95=5.5°) and Miocene (Ds=2.9°, Is=0.9°, N=9, α95=12.4°) volcanics relative to the pole for stable South Africa and with respect to the corresponding ages of the analyzed units record a significant counterclockwise rotation of ~11.1°± 6.4° and insignificant CCW rotation of ~3.2° ± 11.5°, respectively.}, language = {en} } @phdthesis{Erbe2004, author = {Erbe, Andreas}, title = {Ellipsometrische Lichtstreuung als neue Methode zur Charakterisierung der Grenzfl{\"a}che von Kolloiden}, url = {http://nbn-resolving.de/urn:nbn:de:kobv:517-0001565}, school = {Universit{\"a}t Potsdam}, pages = {123}, year = {2004}, abstract = {Die ellipsometrische Lichtstreuung wird als eine neue, leistungsf{\"a}hige Methode zur Charakterisierung von Schichten um kolloidale Partikel vorgestellt.
