  abstract  = {In letters to trusted friends and in conversations Humboldt often showed an inclination to make fun of persons, institutions and situations. In most cases he did this tongue in cheek, rarely hurting people seriously. A special target of Humboldt's ironical remarks was the Prussian ministry of education and culture because of its animosity to the natural sciences which Humboldt wanted to promote. Often Humboldt expressed his frustration about narrow-mindedness and arrogance which he observed in his hometown of Berlin. Sometimes he had reasons to criticize the Prussian Academies of Sciences and of Arts. Humboldt had a fine sense of humor and many critical remarks can only be understood in the context in which they were made. The reader should therefore be warned, not to take any ironical or sarcastic characterization of a person or an institution literally.},

  abstract  = {The present paper investigates the conceptual development of Alexander on Humboldt. The point of reference is his relation to Schelling and to a series of investigators of nature and of physicians closely connected to Naturphilosophie. It is shown that in the correspondence of Humboldt with this group the content underwent a transformation. Scientific exchanges and a general interpretative consensus were over the years more and more replaced by social cooperation over academic appointments, and collaboration over other political problems within the scientific establishment. Concerning the scientific aspect, the lack of a section on Mexico in the Relation historique is not a real deficit, since this can be found in the Essai. Vor allem hier ist die M{\"o}glichkeit gegeben, die Theorie an der Praxis zu messen. Die viele Jahrzehnte lang nahezu unangetastete Legitimation von Exkursionen in Unterricht und Studium durch Leitbegriffe wie „Authentizit{\"a}t", „originale Begegnung" und „Realraumerfahrung" werden heute jedoch vor dem Hintergrund der Entwicklungen in der Fachwissenschaft sowie in der Fachdidaktik zunehmend in Frage gestellt. Besonders die konstruktivistische Wende in der Geographiedidaktik stellte die Exkursionsdidaktik vor große Herausforderungen. Man fragte sich: Wenn „R{\"a}ume" nicht mehr als Realr{\"a}ume untersucht werden und Exkursionen nicht automatisch damit gerechtfertigt werden k{\"o}nnen, dass sie Unterricht außerhalb des Klassenzimmers sind, welche Berechtigung haben sie dann noch? Dieser Band begibt sich auf die Suche nach theoretischen Antworten auf diese Frage und stellt darauf aufbauend innovative didaktische Konzepte vor. Es werden geographische Exkursionen beschrieben, auf denen mit unterschiedlichen sch{\"u}leraktivierenden Methoden gearbeitet wurde.   abstract  = {A study is reported which investigates the fakeability of personality profiles as measured by a standard personality inventory, the Freiburger Pers{\"o}nlichkeitsinventar (FPI). Unlike previous studies investigating laypersons' ability to fake a global good or bad impression, the present study examined individuals' ability to fake a specific personality profile. Four groups of subjects were instructed to fake their FPI scores so as to present themselves as high vs low scorers on the "social orientation" dimension or high vs low scorers on the "achievement orientation" dimension. The results clearly demonstrate that subjects are successful in manipulating their scores on the critical dimensions according to instruction. Moreover, they also fake related scales in a way that corroborates the intended image of a person with a high (or low) achievement (or social) orientation. The overall pattern of results reveals that subjects were able to distort their responses in a way that reflects their intuitive understanding of the dimensional structure of the FPI. The implications of the present findings for the use of personality inventories as valid diagnostic instruments are discussed.},

  abstract  = {The study provides a test of the interactionist concept of behavioral coherence across situations. Following an approach suggested by D. Magnusson and B. Ekehammer (1978, Journal of Research in Personality, 12, 41-48), individual correlations between self-reported behavior patterns and perceived similarity ratings across anxiety-provoking situations are obtained as measures of coherence. Unlike the Magnusson and Ekehammar study, the present measures of situation cognition and behavior are based on an idiographic sampling of anxiety-provoking situations. As a step toward concept-based measurement of situation cognition, further measures of perceived situational similarity are derived from the script, prototype, and social episodes models in social psychology and correlated with cross-situational similarity of behavioral profiles. It is demonstrated, in comparison with the findings of Magnusson and Ekehammar, that correlations between similarity ratings and behavior patterns increase substantially as a result of an idiographic sampling of situations. Moreover, it is shown that "script," "prototype," and "social episode" measures can be utilized to investigate the covariation between situation cognition and behavior, thus contributing to the clarification of the principles of cognitive representation of situational experience.},

  abstract  = {To investigate the relationship between implicit psychological hypotheses and explicit empirical findings, summaries of twenty published studies on attitude-behaviour consistency were presented to a sample of forty-eight psychology undergraduates. Subjects were asked to estimate the percentage of agreement between attitudes and behaviour obtained by each study. Correlations between subjects' covariation judgements and empirically obtained attitude-behaviour consistencies were minimal and nonsignificant. Results are discussed in the light of more recent research on attitudebehaviour relationship.},
