Here, we will present case studies at a variety of scales and levels of resolution to illustrate how we can substantially complement and enhance classical geological approaches with remote sensing techniques. Commonly, satellite and DEM based studies are being used in a first step of assessing areas of geologic interest. While in the past the analysis of satellite imagery (e.g. Landsat TM) and aerial photographs was carried out to characterize the regional geologic characteristics, particularly structure and lithology, geologists have increasingly ventured into a process-oriented approach. This entails assessing structures and geomorphic features with a concept that includes active tectonics or tectonic activity on time scales relevant to humans. In addition, these efforts involve analyzing and quantifying the processes acting at the surface by integrating different remote sensing and topographic data (e.g. SRTM-DEM, SSM/I, GPS, Landsat 7 ETM, Aster, Ikonos…). A combined structural and geomorphic study in the hyperarid Atacama desert demonstrates the use of satellite and digital elevation data for assessing geological structures formed by long-term (millions of years) feedback mechanisms between erosion and crustal bending (Zeilinger et al., 2005). The medium-term change of landscapes during hundred thousands to millions years in a more humid setting is shown in an example from southern Chile. Based on an analysis of rivers/watersheds combined with landscapes parameterization by using digital elevation models, the geomorphic evolution and change in drainage pattern in the coastal Cordillera can be quantified and put into the context of seismotectonic segmentation of a tectonically active region. This has far-reaching implications for earthquake rupture scenarios and hazard mitigation (K. Rehak, see poster on IMAF Workshop). Two examples illustrate short-term processes on decadal, centennial and millennial time scales: One study uses orogen scale precipitation gradients derived from remotely sensed passive microwave data (Bookhagen et al., 2005a). They demonstrate how debris flows were triggered as a response of slopes to abnormally strong rainfall in the interior parts of the Himalaya during intensified monsoons. The area of the orogen that receives high amounts of precipitation during intensified monsoons also constitutes numerous landslide deposits of up to 1km3 volume that were generated during intensified monsoon phase at about 27 and 9 ka (Bookhagen et al., 2005b). Another project in the Swiss Alps compared sets of aerial photographs recorded in different years. By calculating high resolution surfaces the mass transport in a landslide could be reconstructed (M. Schwab, Universit{\"a}t Bern). All these examples, although representing only a short and limited selection of projects using remote sense data in geology, have as a common approach the goal to quantify geological processes. With increasing data resolution and new sensors future projects will even enable us to recognize more patterns and / or structures indicative of geological processes in tectonically active areas. This is crucial for the analysis of natural hazards like earthquakes, tsunamis and landslides, as well as those hazards that are related to climatic variability. The integration of remotely sensed data at different spatial and temporal scales with field observations becomes increasingly important. Many of presently highly populated places and increasingly utilized regions are subject to significant environmental pressure and often constitute areas of concentrated economic value. Combined remote sensing and ground-truthing in these regions is particularly important as geologic, seismicity and hydrologic data may be limited here due to the recency of infrastructural development. Monitoring ongoing processes and evaluating the remotely sensed data in terms of recurrence of events will greatly enhance our ability to assess and mitigate natural hazards.

Die Verfahren zur Bestimmung der ETr aus optischen FE-Daten lassen grob wie folgt gliedern : • Direkte Ableitung der Evapotranspiration aus radiometrisch bestimmten Oberfl{\"a}chen-temperaturen • Ableitung von Modellinputdaten wie z.B. Globalstrahlung, Albedo, Blattfl{\"a}cheniondex LAI und NDVI aus FE-Daten zur Anwendung von SoilVegetation-AtmosphereTransfer- und Energiebilanzmodellen wie z.B. SEBAL (Bastiaansen et al . 1998) • Kombinierte Anwendung verschiedenster Sensoren wie SAR-ERS1, LANDSAT-TM, NOAA-AHVRR mit SVAT-Modellen und hydrologischen Einzugsgebietsmodellen Die Validierung dieser Methoden wurde in verschiedenen Messkampagnen wie z.B. Lo-trex10E-HIBE, FIFE oder HAPEX-Sahel durchgef{\"u}hrt. Dabei wurde die aus dem entspre-chenden Sensor abgeleitete ETr mit gemessenen ETr-Raten von Ankerstationen innerhalb eines definierten Gebietes verglichen. Diese Ankerstationen leiteten die ETr aus Profil-, Ed-dy-Flux-, oder Szintillometermessungen ab. Durchg{\"a}ngige l{\"a}ngere Zeitreihen der ETr sind nur mit FE-Daten mit hoher Wiederholungsrate wie z.B. NOAA-AVHRR, MODIS hoher Zeitaufl{\"o}sung m{\"o}glich Mit Landsat-TM z.B. ergeben sich dagegen nur „Snap Shots" der ETr von einzelnen Tagen. Daher wurden oftmals Multisensorverfahren d.h. Kombination von z.B. Landsat-TM mit NOAA-AVHRR eingesetzt oder die FE-Daten nur f{\"u}r die Erhebung zeitin-varianter Eingangsdaten (z.B. Landnutzung) und zur raumbezogenen Validierung der ETr-Berechnungen von hydrologischen Modellen verwendet. Since knowledge can be both tacit and explicit, its transfer from the individual to the organizational knowledge base poses a challenge in organizations. This challenge increases when the fluctuation of knowledge carriers is exceptionally high. Especially in large projects in which external consultants are involved, there is a risk that critical, company-relevant knowledge generated in the project will leave the company with the external knowledge carrier and thus be lost. In this paper, we show the advantages of an early warning system for knowledge management to avoid this loss. In higher education, the standard forms of learning and teaching are increasingly being challenged and a more comprehensive process of differentiation is taking place. Student-centered teaching methods are becoming increasingly important in course design and the role of the lecturer is changing from the knowledge mediator to moderator and learning companion. However, this is accelerating the need for strategically planned faculty support and a reassessment of the role of teaching and learning. Even though the benefits of experience-based learning approaches for the development of life skills are well known, most knowledge transfer is still realized through lectures in higher education. Teachers have the goal to design the curriculum, new assignments, and share insights into evolving pedagogy. Student engagement could be the most important factor in the learning success of university students, regardless of the university program or teaching format. Against this background, this article presents the development, application, and initial findings of an innovative learning concept. In this concept, students are allowed to deal with a scientific topic, but instead of a presentation and a written elaboration, their examination consists of developing an online course in terms of content, didactics, and concept to implement it in a learning environment, which is state of the art. The online courses include both self-created teaching material and interactive tasks. For some periods, children were locked out of sports in schools (physical education lessons, school sports working groups) and organized sports in sports clubs which often resulted in physical inactivity. Did these restrictions affect children's physical fitness? The EMOTIKON project (www.uni-potsdam.de/emotikon) annually assesses the physical fitness (cardiorespiratory endurance [6-minute-run test], coordination [star-run test], speed [20-m sprint test], lower [standing long jump test] and upper [ball push test] limbs muscle power, and balance [one-legged stance test]) of all third graders in the Federal State of Brandenburg, Germany. Participation is mandatory for all public primary schools. In the falls from 2016 to 2021, 83,476 keyage children (i.e., school enrollment according to the legal key date, between eight and nine years in third grade) from 512 schools were assessed with the EMOTIKON test battery. We tested the Covid pandemic effect on a composite score of the four highly correlated physical fitness tests assessing cardiorespiratory endurance, coordination, speed and powerLOW and on another composite score of the three running tests (cardiorespiratory endurance, coordination, speed), as well as separately on all six physical fitness components. Secular trends for each of the physical fitness components and differences between schools and children were taken into account in linear mixed models. We found a negative Covid pandemic effect on the two composite physical fitness scores, as well as on cardiorespiratory endurance, coordination, and speed. We found a positive Covid pandemic effect on powerLOW. Coordination was associated with the largest negative Covid pandemic effect, also passing the threshold of smallest meaningful change (SMC, i.e., 0.2 Cohen's d) when accumulated across two years. Given the educational context, Covid pandemic effects were also compared relative to the expected age-related development of the physical fitness components between eight and nine years. The Covid pandemic-related developmental costs/gains ranged from three to seven months relative to a longitudinal age effect, and from five to 17 months relative to a cross-sectional age effect. We propose that a longitudinal assessment yields a more reliable estimate of the developmental (age-related) gain than a cross-sectional one. Therefore, we consider the smaller Covid pandemic-related developmental costs/gains to be more credible. Interestingly, on the school level, „fitter" schools (relatively higher Grand Mean) exhibited larger negative Covid pandemic effects than schools with a lower physical fitness score. Negative Covid pandemic effects for the three run tasks were also found by B{\"a}hr et al. (2022), who tested the physical fitness of 16,496 Thuringian third-graders from 292 schools with the same six physical fitness tests used in EMOTIKON. The lower energy limit can be pushed down to energies as low as 30 keV for gamma-ray burst detection with the calorimeter. The mission is based on an advanced space-proven detector technology, with unprecedented sensitivity, angular and energy resolution, combined with remarkable polarimetric capability. Thanks to its performance in the MeV-GeV domain, substantially improving its predecessors, e-ASTROGAM will open a new window on the non-thermal Universe, making pioneering observations of the most powerful Galactic and extragalactic sources, elucidating the nature of their relativistic outflows and their effects on the surroundings. With a line sensitivity in the MeV energy range one to two orders of magnitude better than previous and current generation instruments, e-ASTROGAM will determine the origin of key isotopes fundamental for the understanding of supernova explosion and the chemical evolution of our Galaxy. The mission will be a major player of the multiwavelength, multimessenger time-domain astronomy of the 2030s, and provide unique data of significant interest to a broad astronomical community, complementary to powerful observatories such as LISA, LIGO, Virgo, KAGRA, the Einstein Telescope and the Cosmic Explorer, IceCube-Gen2 and KM3NeT, SKA, ALMA, JWST, E-ELT, LSST, Athena, and the Cherenkov Telescope Array.}, language = {en} } @inproceedings{Szeifert2007, author = {Szeifert, T.}, title = {Wind variabilities and asymmetries in Luminous Blue Variables}, url = {http://nbn-resolving.de/urn:nbn:de:kobv:517-opus-18146}, year = {2007}, abstract = {Luminous Blue Variables show strong changes in their stellar wind on time scales of typically years to decades when they expand and contract radially at approximately constant luminosity. Micro-variability on shorter time scales and amplitudes can be observed superimposed to the larger scale radial changes. Wind variability is seen on short and intermediate time scales with the line profiles changing from P Cygni to inverse P Cygni and double peeked profiles sometimes for the same star and spectral line. On longer time scales the ionisation levels for all chemical elements change drastically due to the strong change of the temperature on the stellar surface. While still a nascent concept, the metaverse has the potential to "transform the physical world, as well as transport or extend physical activities to a virtual world" (Wiles, 2022). Big data technologies will also be essential in managing the enormous amounts of data created in the metaverse (Sun et al., 2022). Metaverse technologies can offer the public sector a host of benefits, such as simplified information exchange, stronger communication with citizens, better access to public services, or benefiting from a new virtual economy. Implementations are underway in several cities around the world (Geraghty et al., 2022). In this paper, we analyze metaverse opportunities for the public sector and explore their application in the context of Germany's Federal Employment Agency. Based on an analysis of academic literature and practical examples, we create a capability map for potential metaverse business capabilities for different areas of the public sector (broadly defined). These include education (virtual training and simulation, digital campuses that offer not just online instruction but a holistic university campus experience, etc.), tourism (virtual travel to remote locations and museums, virtual festival participation, etc.), health (employee training - as for emergency situations, virtual simulations for patient treatment - for example, for depression or anxiety, etc.), military (virtual training to experience operational scenarios without being exposed to a real-world threats, practice strategic decision-making, or gain technical knowledge for operating and repairing equipment, etc.), administrative services (document processing, virtual consultations for citizens, etc.), judiciary (AI decision-making aids, virtual proceedings, etc.), public safety (virtual training for procedural issues, special operations, or unusual situations, etc.), emergency management (training for natural disasters, etc.), and city planning (visualization of future development projects and interactive feedback, traffic management, attraction gamification, etc.), among others. We further identify several metaverse application areas for Germany's Federal Employment Agency. These applications can help it realize the goals of the German government for digital transformation that enables faster, more effective, and innovative government services. They include training of employees, training of customers, and career coaching for customers. These applications can be implemented using interactive learning games with AI agents, virtual representations of the organizational spaces, and avatars interacting with each other in these spaces. Metaverse applications will both use big data (to design the virtual environments) and generate big data (from virtual interactions). Issues related to data availability, quality, storage, processing (and related computing power requirements), interoperability, sharing, privacy and security will need to be addressed in these emerging metaverse applications (Sun et al., 2022). Special attention is needed to understand the potential for power inequities (wealth inequity, algorithmic bias, digital exclusion) due to technologies such as VR (Egliston \& Carter, 2021), harmful surveillance practices (Bibri \& Allam, 2022), and undesirable user behavior or negative psychological impacts (Dwivedi et al., 2022). The results of this exploratory study can inform public sector organizations of emerging metaverse opportunities and enable them to develop plans for action as more of the metaverse technologies become a reality. While the metaverse body of research is still small and research agendas are only now starting to emerge (Dwivedi et al., 2022), this study offers a building block for future development and analysis of metaverse applications.}, language = {en} } @inproceedings{Stillmark2021, author = {Stillmark, Hans-Christian}, title = {Mythosgestaltung und Genrewahl in Hebbels Tragikom{\"o}die „Ein Trauerspiel in Sizilien"}, series = {Drama, Mythos und Geschichte. These independent constraints include the large observed mass-loss rates in LBV eruptions, the large masses of evolved massive stars like LBVs and WNH stars, WR stars in lower metallicity environments, observed rotation rates of massive stars at different metallicity, supernovae that seem to defy expectations of high mass-loss rates in stellar evolution, and other clues. I pay particular attention to the role of feedback that would result from higher mass-loss rates, driving the star to the Eddington limit too soon, and therefore making higher rates appear highly implausible. The constraint solver reasons about satisfiability of conjunctions of constraints, and the search engine controls the search for solutions by iteratively exploring a disjunctive search tree defined by the constraint program. The Monadic Constraint Programming framework gives a monadic definition of constraint programming where the solver is defined as a monad threaded through the monadic search tree. Search and search strategies can then be defined as firstclass objects that can themselves be built or extended by composable search transformers. Search transformers give a powerful and unifying approach to viewing search in constraint programming, and the resulting constraint programming system is first class and extremely flexible.}, language = {en} } @inproceedings{SchreiberVukicevicBeuermann2011, author = {Schreiber, Ulrike and Vukicevic, Radovan and Beuermann, Sabine}, title = {Block copolymers of poly(vinylidene fluoride) obtained via 1,3 dipolar cycloaddition}, series = {Abstracts of papers : joint conference / The Chemical Institute of Cananda, CIC, American Chemical Society, ACS}, volume = {242}, booktitle = {Abstracts of papers : joint conference / The Chemical Institute of Cananda, CIC, American Chemical Society, ACS}, publisher = {American Chemical Society}, address = {Washington}, issn = {0065-7727}, pages = {1}, year = {2011}, language = {en} } @inproceedings{Schrape2008, author = {Schrape, Niklas}, title = {Playing with information : how political games encourage the player to cross the magic circle}, url = {http://nbn-resolving.de/urn:nbn:de:kobv:517-opus-24668}, year = {2008}, abstract = {The concept of the magic circle suggests that the experience of play is separated from reality. Typically, competitors are involved that adjust their prices in response to other competitors with different frequencies. We analyze stochastic dynamic pricing models under competition for the sale of durable goods. Given a competitor's pricing strategy, we show how to derive optimal response strategies that take the anticipated competitor's price adjustments into account. We study resulting price cycles and the associated expected long-term profits. We show that reaction frequencies have a major impact on a strategy's performance. In order not to act predictable our model also allows to include randomized reaction times. Additionally, we study to which extent optimal response strategies of active competitors are affected by additional passive competitors that use constant prices. It turns out that optimized feedback strategies effectively avoid a decline in price. They help to gain profits, especially, when aggressive competitor s are involved.}, language = {en} } @inproceedings{SchlaadLuedecke2019, author = {Schlaad, Helmut and Luedecke, Nils}, title = {Bio-sourced chelating poly(2-oxazoline)s}, series = {Abstracts of papers : joint conference / The Chemical Institute of Cananda, CIC, American Chemical Society, ACS}, volume = {257}, booktitle = {Abstracts of papers : joint conference / The Chemical Institute of Cananda, CIC, American Chemical Society, ACS}, publisher = {American Chemical Society}, address = {Washington}, issn = {0065-7727}, pages = {1}, year = {2019}, language = {en} } @inproceedings{SchenkeSchjeidePuescheletal.2020, author = {Schenke, Maren and Schjeide, Brit-Maren and P{\"u}schel, Gerhard and Seeger, Bettina}, title = {Human motor neurons diffentiated from plutipotent stem cells as superior traged cells for botulinum neuotoxin potency testing}, series = {Naunyn-Schmiedeberg's archives of pharmacology}, volume = {393}, booktitle = {Naunyn-Schmiedeberg's archives of pharmacology}, number = {SUPPL 1}, publisher = {Springer}, address = {Berlin ; Heidelberg}, issn = {0028-1298}, doi = {10.1007/s00210-020-01828-y}, pages = {10 -- 10}, year = {2020}, language = {en} } @inproceedings{SchenkeSchjeidePuescheletal.2021, author = {Schenke, Maren and Schjeide, Brit-Maren and P{\"u}schel, Gerhard Paul and Seeger, Bettina}, title = {Serotype-specific sensitivity to Botulinum neurotoxins of iPSC-derived motor neurons}, series = {Naunyn-Schmiedeberg's archives of pharmacology}, volume = {394}, booktitle = {Naunyn-Schmiedeberg's archives of pharmacology}, number = {Suppl. 1}, publisher = {Springer}, address = {Berlin ; Heidelberg}, issn = {0028-1298}, doi = {10.1007/s00210-021-02066-6}, pages = {S4 -- S4}, year = {2021}, language = {en} } @inproceedings{Scheffler2011, author = {Scheffler, Christiane}, title = {How many skeletons do we need? - An evolutionary approach of the change of skeleton measures in school children in the last decade}, series = {Journal of biological and clinical anthropology : Anthropologischer Anzeiger ; Mitteilungsorgan der Gesellschaft f{\"u}r Anthropologie}, volume = {68}, booktitle = {Journal of biological and clinical anthropology : Anthropologischer Anzeiger ; Mitteilungsorgan der Gesellschaft f{\"u}r Anthropologie}, number = {4}, publisher = {Schweizerbart}, address = {Stuttgart}, issn = {0003-5548}, pages = {519 -- 519}, year = {2011}, language = {en} }
