However, for Classical French, there is a lack of research on related phenomena. In our contribution, we present two recently constructed corpora covering the period of Classical French, sermo and apwcf. We present these corpora in terms of their genre characteristics on a communicative-functional and socio-pragmatic level. Based on the observation that, both in sermo and apwcf, dsas frequently occur together with terms of address, we analyse and manually code a sample based on this co-occurrence, and we compare the results with regard to special features in the individual corpora. The emerging patterns show a clear correspondence between socio-pragmatic factors and the linguistic means used to realise dsas. We propose that these results can be interpreted as signs of an underlying "grammar of authority".}, language = {en} } @article{Klettke2021, author = {Klettke, Cornelia}, title = {Die Aneignung der Dichtung durch den Zeichner}, series = {Romanistische Zeitschrift f{\"u}r Literaturgeschichte}, volume = {45}, journal = {Romanistische Zeitschrift f{\"u}r Literaturgeschichte}, number = {1/2}, publisher = {Winter}, address = {Heidelberg}, issn = {0343-379X}, pages = {149 -- 165}, year = {2021}, abstract = {R{\´e}sum{\´e}: L'appropriation du po{\`e}me par le dessinateur : le cycle de Botticelli sur la ‚Divine Com{\´e}die'. XXXIII, 142). The author, Joseph de Maimieux (1753-1820), is said to have coined the term pasigraphie. With the invention of pasigraphy, Maimieux pursued the goal of creating a conceptually based writing system that could be applied to all languages. In this way, a text written in this script could be read in all languages. The pasigraphic system is based on an a priori system of conceptual classification to which written characters are assigned. It is therefore initially an exclusively written language, on which Maimieux two years later also built a spoken language with the Pasilalie. The first arguments against the endeavour represented by the Pasigraphie were brought forward by Maimieux' immediate contemporaries, the ideologues. These objections were re-affirmed in particular by Johann Severin Vater. The decisive difference between Maimieux and his critics lies in the determination of the role of signs in the formation of concepts. While for Maimieux the signs only name the finished concepts, his critics argued that signs have a function in the constitution of the concepts. The idea of linguistic relativity can be found in John Locke's statement that words interpose themselves between our understandings and the truth which it would contemplate and apprehend. In the 18th century, we can find formulations that our language accustoms us to arrange our ideas in a specific way, that some languages are more suitable for certain kinds of thought, or that metaphors have significant influence on peoples' thought. In the 20thcentury the Neo-Humboldtian school revitalised the idea of an influence of language on thought in a reductionist way. At the end of the 20th century, some authors, for example John J. In detail, the paper deals with the constructions [sin duda + indicative/subjunctive], [tal vez + indicative/subjunctive], [probablemente + indicative/subjunctive] and [posiblemente + indicative/subjunctive]. In their interaction with mood, the constructions are understood as different microconstructions. For example, [sin duda + indicative] and [sin duda + subjunctive] are seen as different microconstructions of the superordinate mesoconstruction [modal construction (of probability) + verb]. In a qualitative analysis examples from the CREA, CORPES XXI, and CdE corpora are examined regarding the interaction of [expression of probability] + [mood]. Following the Principle of No Synonymy of Grammatical Forms, the analysis confirms that the use of mood additionally influences the expressed degree of probability of the constructions. For instance, while probablemente generally expresses a slightly higher probability than posiblemente, a fine-tuned analysis shows that the expressed degrees of probability of [probablemente + subjunctive] and [posiblemente + indicative] are highly similar. This is also often confirmed by further contextual information. In summary, the paper shows that Cognitive Construction Grammar is a very suitable background against which to investigate modal phenomena, as cognitive approaches generally deal with the ways in which language users conceptualize the world from their own point of view, and as expressions of modality, more precisely, probability, are also closely related to speakers' attitudes or perspectives.}, language = {es} } @article{SanchezGarcia2020, author = {Sanchez Garcia, Maria Clemencia}, title = {Las unidades fraseol{\´o}gicas del parlache como elementos evocadores de la oralidad ficcional en la novela Rosario Tijeras, de Jorge Franco y su traducci{\´o}n al alem{\´a}n}, series = {Ling{\"u}{\´i}stica y literatura}, volume = {41}, journal = {Ling{\"u}{\´i}stica y literatura}, number = {77}, publisher = {Universidad de Antioquia}, address = {Medell{\´i}n}, issn = {0120-5587}, doi = {10.17533/udea.lyl.n77a17}, pages = {385 -- 409}, year = {2020}, abstract = {Este estudioanaliz{\´o}c{\´o}mose evoca la oralidad ficcional en la novela Rosario Tijerasa trav{\´e}s de la variaci{\´o}n ling{\"u}{\´i}stica. Case studies ranging from the German reception of James Cook's voyages through to the legacies of 19th- and 20th- century settler colonialism foreground the highly ambiguous roles played by explorers, missionaries, intellectuals and other individuals, as well as by objects and things that travelled between worlds - ancestral human remains, rare animal skins, songs and even military tanks. The chapters foreground the complex relationship between science, religion, art and exploitation, displacement and annihilation. Movement and transformations are the basic principles in which the melody of prose expresses itself as a language in and as motion. Although based in Brazilian culture, Rosa shows the conviviality of different logics which are not reduced to one myth of the Brazilian people, but produce multiple ways of co-existence between different life-forms and culture narratives. The translingual title "Sagarana" already alludes to the transitions between two languages, regions, and cultures: the Icelandic "saga-" and the Tupic-Word "rana" which means "similar" or "alike." The interpretation figures out the correlation of different provenances ("Herk{\"u}nfte") which emerge from Rosa's craft of storytelling. In its center, the Sert{\~a}o arises as a region of nature whose forces are connected with the life of human beings. As fractal of the world, it symbolizes Brazilian relations as a world of its own and at the same time as a part of the world of others. From this point of view the essay turns world literature upside down: it emphasizes on the one hand that the epoch of world literature since Goethe has come to an end and that the meridian has shifted to Latin America. On the other hand it can be observed that the lusophonic world between Brazil and Angola, Portugal and Kap Verde develops new perspectives on literatures of the world beyond the fixed coordinations of periphery and center. Rosa's ways of world making already shift the perspective from the local to the global as a miniatured model of a universe which reveals interpretations of a better understanding of the world as world fractals.}, language = {en} } @article{Ette2020, author = {Ette, Ottmar}, title = {From the Transarchip{\´e}lique Antilles}, series = {Ameena Gafoor Institute}, journal = {Ameena Gafoor Institute}, pages = {11}, year = {2020}, abstract = {Ottmar Ette: TransArea : a literary history of globalization. The best-known definition of languages as an epiphenomenon is that proposed by Chomsky, who declared that the specific realisations of language do not warrant scientific attention, but there were early relegations of properties of individual languages to the domain of an epiphenomenon of grammar, to the domain of an art and not a science. The Ideologues had a rather reserved attitude to Condillac's (1714-1780) ideas and his sensualist sign theory. They strove for the perfection of language for the needs of thought and of scientific knowledge. The connections with the Ideologues can also be discerned in Russia. In the educational theory, Jean-Baptiste Maudru (1740-1808) was close to the Ideologues and, despite his insufficient knowledge of the Russian language, made some interesting remarks on the connection between the language and the national character. According to Maudru and in agreement with the Ideologues, different typologies of word order are not just an indication of greater or lesser closeness to the natural order. Rather, they indicate differences in national character, which manifest themselves in the specific character of individual languages. Maudru taught at the military academy in Saint Petersburg and published the first Russian grammar in France (Maudru 1802). In his grammar, he sought to link mechanically the specific features of languages and of national characters with the climatic influences. His attempt to revive the theory of climatic influences was criticized by Karamzin. But neither individually told narratives nor those grounded in the communicative repertoire of a social group are easily comparable. A clearly identifiable tertium comparationis is mandatory. A potentially underlying model of narrating from personal experience was activated via a narrative prime, and in a second step, the participants were asked to tell a narrative of their own. The analysis focuses on similarities and differences between the primes and the students' narratives.
