  abstract  = {El turismo es un fen{\´o}meno territorial de contacto ling{\"u}{\´i}stico-cultural que tiene impactos significativos tanto en las sociedades receptoras como, aunque en menor medida, en las sociedades de origen de los turistas. Adem{\´a}s de las repercusiones territoriales y medioambientales, la pr{\´a}ctica tur{\´i}stica deja su huella en la cultura, la sociodemograf{\´i}a y la identidad de los destinos tur{\´i}sticos. Este trabajo aborda la relaci{\´o}n entre el turismo y el multiling{\"u}ismo, comparando el litoral del estado de Quintana Roo, en la pen{\´i}nsula de Yucat{\´a}n, M{\´e}xico, con la isla de Mallorca. Nuestro objetivo principal es identificar tanto los puntos en com{\´u}n como las diferencias entre las dos regiones en el marco de los aspectos socioling{\"u}{\´i}sticos mencionados anteriormente. Esto nos permitir{\´a} distinguir las din{\´a}micas ling{\"u}{\´i}sticas regionales relacionadas con el turismo, por un lado, de aquellas din{\´a}micas que operan a nivel global o transatl{\´a}ntico, por el otro. De esta manera, esperamos contribuir a un entendimiento m{\´a}s profundo de las din{\´a}micas socioling{\"u}{\´i}sticas caracter{\´i}sticas de cada uno de los dos contextos y establecer las bases para futuros trabajos de tipo emp{\´i}rico.},

  abstract  = {Comparamos la labializaci{\´o}n no asimiladora de nasales finales en espa{\~n}ol en tres corpus de espa{\~n}ol americano (mexicano, colombiano y paraguayo). Si bien es conocida la labializaci{\´o}n no asimiladora en espa{\~n}ol yucateco, es en gran parte desconocida en otras regiones de habla hispana, por lo que a menudo se atribuye a la influencia maya. Ahora bien, se han se{\~n}alado casualmente h{\´a}bitos de pronunciaci{\´o}n similares tanto en Paraguay como en Colombia. Comparando emp{\´i}ricamente la labializaci{\´o}n en tres corpus constituidos sobre la misma base metodol{\´o}gica, concluimos que la evidencia a favor del contacto ling{\"u}{\´i}stico es como mucho sumamente indirecta. Independientemente de esto, encontramos que la diferencia m{\´a}s marcada es que la tasa de labializaci{\´o}n parece ser determinada por la duraci{\´o}n de la pausa subsiguiente en los datos de la pen{\´i}nsula yucateca, mas no en aquellos de Colombia y Paraguay. Argumentamos que es cierto que el contacto puede eventualmente haber desencadenado el desarrollo de este rasgo en el espa{\~n}ol yucateco, puesto que el espa{\~n}ol actual casi no conoce nasales labiales finales, pero el maya s{\´i}. Sin embargo, el perfil ling{\"u}{\´i}stico (hablantes monoling{\"u}es vs. biling{\"u}es) no tiene ning{\´u}n efecto en nuestros datos yucatecos y paraguayos, y en el total de nuestros datos tampoco encontramos evidencia en favor de la hip{\´o}tesis que el contacto ling{\"u}{\´i}stico hubiera jugado un rol (importante) en el desarrollo de las labiales nasales en las tres variedades.},

  abstract  = {Heinrich B{\"o}ll was known in German postwar literature primarily as a committed intellectual and author of novels and short stories. Less visible were his poems, which are neither among the great lyrical texts of postwar literature nor exclusively occasional poetry - although occasional poems make up an important part of B{\"o}ll's body of work. The writer of poems also expresses concerns typical of B{\"o}ll as an author in general, such as themes of everyday life, social problems, or issues of religion. This is particularly evident in the poems written between 1968 and 1984, in which he speaks of his hometown of Cologne. Changes of the postwar decades are thereby problematized within the horizon of Cologne's history. B{\"o}ll thus delivers a noteworthy attempt to update the tradition of metropolitan poetry beyond National Socialism and the postwar period.},

  abstract  = {Turkish expresses adverbial subordination predominantly by means of converb clauses. These are headed by nonfinite verbs, i.e. converbs, which have a converb suffix attached to the stem. The different converbs express different aspectual relations between the subordinate and the superordinate clause, and they can be modifying or non-modifying. We analyse data from speakers of Turkish as a heritage language in Germany and the U.S. as well as monolingual speakers of Turkish in Turkey. The data come from two age groups: adults and adolescents. We show that unlike in canonical Turkish, converbs in heritage Turkish can be multifunctional, meaning that they can express both simultaneity and causality, for example. Furthermore, we show that converbs in heritage Turkish can be both modifying and non-modifying. As possible factors which might be responsible for such variation, we discuss language contact, sociolinguistic differences between the speaker communities (Germany vs. the U.S.) and age of the speakers.},

  abstract  = {Dieser Beitrag geht der Frage nach M{\"o}glichkeiten einer systematischen Vernetzung von germanistischer Literaturwissenschaft und -didaktik in der Hochschullehre nach. Dazu sind im Rahmen eines Projekts insgesamt zw{\"o}lf Seminarkooperationen durchgef{\"u}hrt worden, in denen jeweils ein fachwissenschaftliches mit einem fachdidaktischen Seminar kooperiert hat. Die Auswertung dieser Kooperationsseminare, die auf der Grundlage einer Auseinandersetzung mit in der Forschungsliteratur skizzierten bestehenden Problemlagen im Lehramts-Studium Deutsch und aktuellen vergleichbaren Projekten erfolgt, ist qualitativ-analytisch angelegt und erfolgt auf der Basis leitfadengest{\"u}tzter Interviews mit den betreffenden Dozentinnen und Dozenten. Diese ausf{\"u}hrliche Reflexion der Kooperationsseminare zeigt zum einen Probleme der Kooperation zwischen Fachwissenschaft und -didaktik auf, zum anderen werden auf dieser Basis aber auch m{\"o}gliche Gelingensbedingungen effektiver Kooperation(en) auf den Ebenen der Planung, Durchf{\"u}hrung und Reflexion von Kooperationsseminaren eruiert. Die Befunde haben dar{\"u}ber hinaus auch Implikationen f{\"u}r die Studienordnung im Lehramt Deutsch und wurden bereits mit ersten {\"A}nderungen ber{\"u}cksichtigt.},

  abstract  = {This article focuses on Herder's unpublished anthology of Ancient Folk Songs (1773-1775). A close reading of the prefaces reveals the dialectic of the ,national' and its critique that is inherent to the anthology. In the preface to the first book, the collection of folk songs is primarily motivated by the idea of building a German national poetry. This project of nation-building with the means of folk poetry can be considered innovative because it aims to bridge the gap between popular and scholarly culture and to activate the audience in all its cognitive and affective potentials. Moreover, the vision of national poetry is intertwined with a comparative perspective on European folkloristics, as the British culture appears as role model for the creative adaption and tradition of popular ballads and songs. Finally, in the preface to the fourth book of the anthology, the songs of ,wild' foreign peoples are not only discovered as a vital resource for the reinvention of national poetry, but, according to Herder's vision, they also constitute an archive of human affects and expressions that transcends national and cultural boundaries.},

  abstract  = {What are the narrative functions of the present tense in medieval narrations? In order to address this question, the paper brings together linguistic observations on tense semantics and a literary analysis of >Wilhalm von Wenden< by Ulrich von Etzenbach. It shows that the present tense can refer to three different kinds of >now<, i. e. the >discourse now<, the >story now<, and the >recipient's now<. In all three contexts, the present tense is not used as a narrative tense but rather indicates a speaker's voice commenting on the events. This leads to the hypothesis that the development of the >narrative present< (as common in modern novels) is based on two requirements: The decoupling between the >discourse now< and the diegetic world as well as the decoupling between the author and the fictional instance of the narrator.},

  abstract  = {Balkan varieties of Turkic, particularly those on the periphery of the Turkic spread area in the region, such as Gagauz and West Rumelian Turkish, are commonly observed to have head-initial verb phrases. Based on a wide survey, this paper attempts a more precise description of the pattern of VP directionality across Balkan Turkic and shows that there is considerable variation in how prevalent VX order is, a pattern that turns out to be more complex than the previous descriptions suggest: Two spectrums of directionality can be discerned between XV and VX orders, contingent upon type of the dependent of the verb and dialect locale. The paper also explores the grammatical causes underlying this shift in constituent order. First, VX order seems to be dependent upon whether a clause is nominal or not. Nonfinite clauses of the nominal type have XV order across Balkan Turkic, while finite clauses and nonfinite clauses of the converbial type show differing degrees of VX order depending on type of dependent and geographical location. Second, VX order appears to be an outcome of verb movement to the left of the dependent in finite clauses and nonfinite clauses of the converbial type, rather than head parameter shift.},

  abstract  = {This paper attempts to account for the syntactic distribution of the particle sey in Turkish, in particular its suffixed variant which is a placeholder for expressions that have to be inserted into the discourse later. The paper argues that the distribution of suffixed sey is determined by constituent structure, meaning that Bey can only substitute for syntactic constituents. Thus, sey acts as a pro-form, similar, for instance, to pronouns substituting for noun phrases. This has two implications: First, as sey is a quasi-universal pro-form with the ability to substitute for a wide range of constituents, sey-substitution can be used as a constituency test to peek into the constituent structure of virtually any major syntactic domain.   abstract  = {Multilingualism and the alternate history genre have something in common: both phenomena are based on the construction of alternatives, in the case of multilingualism on the alternatives between different languages and communication systems, and in the case of the alternate history genre on the alternatives between real-world facts and the variation thereof within fictional worlds. This article investigates the interconnections between these two forms of thinking in alternatives by looking specifically at Quentin Tarantino's counterfactual war film Inglourious Basterds (2009) and Christian Kracht's alternate history novel Ich werde hier sein im Sonnenschein und im Schatten (2008). I argue that the consideration of language alternatives forms part of the meta-reflection of the alternate history genre in these works while at the same time opening up a political perspective: in Tarantino's film and Kracht's novel, multilingualism serves as a means for the critique of ideology by rendering palpable the political threats of a worldview based on clear-cut alternatives. In the article's final section, I plead for the establishment of stronger links between the research on literary multilingualism and the theory of fiction.},

Zur Beantwortung dieser Frage wurde eine Analyse der Verankerung der FTP in allen Studienordnungen hinsichtlich qualitativer (Inhalte und Ziele, Pr{\"u}fungsformen, Belegungsvoraussetzungen) und quantitativer (Leistungspunkte, Semesterwochenstunden) Kriterien durchgef{\"u}hrt. Leitfadengest{\"u}tzte Interviews mit verantwortlichen Fachdidaktikerinnen und Fachdidaktikern dienten der Untersuchung der konkreten Umsetzung und der Relevanzzuschreibung.   abstract  = {The following statement suggests reconsidering recent debates on a theory of lyric in terms of form and content. Four aspects and issues of the ongoing debate are discussed. In a first step, it is necessary to establish the relation between authorial poetics and lyric theory, since it is often characterised by fuzzy boundaries. Secondly, in order to specify the problem of form in lyric theory, it is suggested to have a closer look at the performative in lyric practice. Another important aspect of form is the semantics of lyrical genres. Lyrical genres mark an area in which form and content are intertwined and in which aspects of the form itself become semantic. Finally, the author argues that we should discuss - if possible assisted by a didactics sensitive to literary texts - whether and how theoretical proposals could be transformed into a practice of teaching poetry.},

In the German language, the capitalization of nouns and proper names presents major difficulties for both native and nonnative learners, since the definition of what is a noun varies according to one's linguistic perspective. In this paper, we hypothesize that learners use different cognitive strategies to identify nouns. To this end, we examine capitalization exercises from more than 30,000 users of an online spelling training platform. The cognitive strategies identified are syntactic, semantic, pragmatic, and morphological approaches. The strategies used by learners overlap widely but differ by individual and evolve with grade level. The results show that even though the pragmatic strategy is not taught systematically in schools, it is the most widespread and most successful strategy used by learners. We therefore suggest that highly granular learning process data can not only provide insights into learners' capabilities and enable the creation of individualized learning content but also inform curriculum development.},

The programme combines anti-bias methods relating to linguistic diversity with objectives of raising critical language awareness. Evaluation through teachers' workshops in Berlin and Brandenburg points to positive and enduring attitudinal changes in participants, but not in control groups that did not attend workshops, and effects were independent of personal variables gender and teaching subject and only weakly associated with age. On the other hand, critics were irritated by what was seen as an inconsequent integration of realistic narration into Goetz' hyperbolic style of writing. This paper takes a different stance on the text: First, it discusses the work's allusions to realistic narration and the financial crisis in detail. Second, it argues that Johann Holtrop transfers the idea of a collapsing economy into an only partially realistic poetic of distortion.   abstract  = {Aims and objectives/purpose/research questions: We compared the processing of morphologically complex derived vs. inflected forms in native speakers of German and highly proficient native Russian second language (L2) learners of German. Design/methodology/approach: We measured morphological priming effects for derived and inflected German words. To ensure that priming effects were genuinely morphological, the design also contained semantic and orthographic control conditions. Data and analysis: 40 native speakers of German and 36 native Russian learners of L2 German participated in a masked-priming lexical-decision experiment. For both participant groups, priming effects for derived vs. inflected words were compared using linear mixed effects models. Findings/conclusions: While first language (L1) speakers showed similar facilitation effects for both derived and inflected primes, L2 speakers showed a difference between the two prime types, with robust priming effects only for derived, but not for inflected forms. Originality: Unlike in previous studies investigating derivation and inflection in L2 processing, priming effects for derived and inflected prime-target pairs were determined on the basis of the same target word, allowing for a direct comparison between the two morphological phenomena. In this respect, this is the first study to directly compare the processing of derived vs. inflected forms in L2 speakers. Significance/implications: The results are inconsistent with accounts predicting general L1/L2 differences for all types of morphologically complex forms as well as accounts assuming that L1 and L2 processing are based on the same mechanisms. We discuss theoretical implications for L2 processing mechanisms, and propose an explanation which can account for the data pattern.},

  abstract  = {The point of departure of this paper is the claim by Heyvaert, Maekelberghe \& Buyle (2019) that the suffix -ing has no aspectual meaning in English gerunds. Rather, the interpretation of nominal and verbal gerunds depends, so they argue, on situation or viewpoint aspect, a claim that contradicts the wide-spread view that the aspectual meaning of English gerunds is brought about by the nominalizing suffix. The present paper addresses the issue from a comparative perspective, focusing on German ung-nominals: while they share aspectual features with their English counterparts, empirical evidence from productivity, distribution, and argument linking shows (i) that the derivational suffix -ung imposes aspectual restrictions on possible verb bases, and (ii) that with respect to argument linking, the deverbal nominal favors the state component of a complex event predicate over its process component. From the historical record of German, we learn that these aspectual restrictions do not hold for ung-nominals in earlier periods of German. With the rise of aspectual restrictions, the nominalization pattern turns more nominal resulting in a position further towards the nominal end of the deverbalization continuum. It appears, then, that it is only in the historical pariods of German that ung-nominals pattern with English nominals as regards their aspectual features. Diese Annahme ist in der Literatur zum Gegenwartsdeutschen durchaus umstritten. Im vorliegenden Beitrag wird auf der Grundlage von Daten aus dem Gegenwartsdeutschen daf{\"u}r argumentiert, dass gehen in Verbindung mit einem Infinitiv tats{\"a}chlich als semi-auxiliares Verb mit aspektueller Bedeutung behandelt werden muss. Die Auswertung von Daten aus der deutschen Sprachgeschichte vom Althochdeutschen bis zum Gegenwartsdeutschen liefert die Grundlage f{\"u}r die Herausarbeitung von einzelnen Stadien in der Geschichte des semi-auxiliaren Verbs gehen, die unterschiedliche Grade seiner Auxiliarisierung anzeigen. Die noch im Mittelhochdeutschen zu beobachtende Alternation des infiniten Komplements zwischen Pr{\"a}senspartizip und Infinitiv l{\"a}sst sich auf die lautlich bedingte Mehrdeutigkeit infiniter Komplemente zur{\"u}ckf{\"u}hren, die im Deutschen letztendlich zum Verlust des Partizips als verbaler Kategorie f{\"u}hrt.},

  abstract  = {This paper investigates evidence for linguistic coherence in new urban dialects that evolved in multiethnic and multilingual urban neighbourhoods. We propose a view of coherence as an interpretation of empirical observations rather than something that would be "out there in the data", and argue that this interpretation should be based on evidence of systematic links between linguistic phenomena, as established by patterns of covariation between phenomena that can be shown to be related at linguistic levels. In a case study, we present results from qualitative and quantitative analyses for a set of phenomena that have been described for Kiezdeutsch, a new dialect from multilingual urban Germany. Qualitative analyses point to linguistic relationships between different phenomena and between pragmatic and linguistic levels. Quantitative analyses, based on corpus data from KiDKo (www.kiezdeutschkorpus.de), point to systematic advantages for the Kiezdeutsch data from a multiethnic and multilingual context provided by the main corpus (KiDKo/Mu), compared to complementary corpus data from a mostly monoethnic and monolingual (German) context (KiDKo/Mo). Taken together, this indicates patterns of covariation that support an interpretation of coherence for this new dialect: ourfindings point to an interconnected linguistic system, rather than to a mere accumulation of individual features. In addition to this internal coherence, the data also points to external coherence: Kiezdeutsch is not disconnected on the outside either, but fully integrated within the general domain of German, an integration that defies a distinction of "autochthonous" and "allochthonous" German, not only at the level of speakers, but also at the level of linguistic systems. We show that noncanonical variants have the form of bare NPs with or without preposition and appear in both multilingual and monolingual speech communities, following the same syntactic and semantic patterns. While there is a quantitative advantage for the multilingual group, noncanonical variants generally constitute only a minority compared to canonical full PP[DP]. Study 2 targets usage restrictions across communicative situations, based on a corpus of elicited productions by adolescents from a multilingual urban neighbourhood. While CP complements give rise to biclausal structures, VP complements and verbal clusters indicate a monoclausal structure. Non-finite verbs in verbal clusters build a syntactic unit with the governing verb. It is only the last infinitival pattern that we address as a so-called coherent infinitival pattern, a notion introduced in the influential work of Bech (1955/57).   abstract  = {Unsere Sprache wandelt sich unabl{\"a}ssig. Beispiele daf{\"u}r lassen sich in der Alltagssprache t{\"a}glich aufs Neue entdecken. Meistens handelt es sich um F{\"a}lle lexikalischen Wandels, wie die Entlehnung von W{\"o}rtern aus einer anderen Sprache in das Deutsche. Eine besondere Rolle spielt hier in den letzten Jahren das Englische. Bekannte Beispiele solcher Entlehnungen sind W{\"o}rter aus der Computersprache wie scannen, e-mailen, chatten, aber auch Punk oder Hooligan sind aus dem Englischen entlehnt. Aus anderen Sprachen sind Lexeme wie Plateau (aus dem Franz{\"o}sischen), Cello (aus dem Italienischen) oder Fatzke (aus dem Polnischen) {\"u}bernommen worden. Informationen {\"u}ber die Geschichte einzelner W{\"o}rter lassen sich aus etymologischen W{\"o}rterb{\"u}chern beziehen. - Diese Einf{\"u}hrung informiert {\"u}ber die linguistischen Kerngebiete Lexikon und Morphologie, Phonologie, Syntax, Semantik und Pragmatik .
