  abstract  = {The contact between Leopold von Buch and Johann Wolfgang von Goethe was full of misunderstandings and critical skepticism. Personal discussions on geological topics failed, letters were dispatched late or did not reach the addressee. Goethe refused Buch as an "ultra-volcanist," Buch labelled Goethe as incompetent. The failed encounter issued in a correspondence of just two letters presented here.},
