Der vorliegende Beitrag will diese L{\"u}cke schließen, indem er Ergebnisse einer aktuellen Replikationsstudie vorstellt und damit die Frage beantwortet, ob die Gewalt an Schulen im Vergleich zur Mitte der 1990er Jahre zu- oder abgenommen hat. Anhand einer repr{\"a}sentativen s{\"a}chsischen Stichprobe zeigt sich, dass im Jahr 2014 im Vergleich zu 1996 {\"u}ber weniger Gewalt an Schulen berichtet wird. Dies betrifft die Gewalt unter Sch{\"u} ler(inne)n und die Gewalt gegen Lehrkr{\"a}fte. Parallel hat die Interventionsbereitschaft unter der Lehrer- und Sch{\"u}lerschaft zugenommen. Zugleich macht die Studie auf differente Entwicklungstrends zwischen den Sch{\"u}lergruppen aufmerksam. Trotz eines insgesamt niedrigen Gewaltniveaus im Vergleich zur Mitte der 1990er Jahre legen die Befunde den Schluss nahe, bei den Pr{\"a}ventionsbem{\"u}hungen nicht nachzulassen. Veryfew studies have investigated the widely held assumption that violence in schools has constantly increased in recent years. The current study aims to fill this gap by presenting results of a recent replication study in Germany, as well as answering the question as to whether violence in schools increased or decreased in comparison with the mid-1990s. Based on a representative sample of Saxon students, this study shows that less violence was reported in schools in 2014 compared to 1996. This relates to both violence among students and their violent actions against teachers. Moreover, the willingness of teachers and students to intervene has increased. At the same time, this study draws attention to developmental trends between groups of students. We want to assess the consequences of connectedness in a spatial network on height clustering in an artificial society. SUBJECTS/METHODS: We used an agent-based computer modelling technique (Monte Carlo simulation) and compared simulated height in a spatial network with characteristics of the observed geographic height distribution of three historic cohorts of Swiss military conscripts (conscripted in 1884-1891; 1908-1910; and 2004-2009). RESULTS: Conscript height shows several characteristic features: (1) height distributions are overdispersed. (2) Conscripts from districts with direct inter-district road connections tend to be similar in height. (3) Clusters of tall and clusters of short stature districts vary over time. Autocorrelations in height between late 19th and early 21st century districts are low. (4) Mean district height depends on the number of connecting roads and on the number of conscripts per district. Using Monte Carlo simulation, we were able to generate these natural characteristics in an artificial society. Already 5\% height information from directly connected districts is sufficient to simulate the characteristics of natural height distribution. Very similar observations in regular rectangular networks indicate that the characteristics of Swiss conscript height distributions do not so much result from the particular Swiss geography but rather appear to be general features of spatial networks. Extraordinary efforts are underway to monitor and understand the concerted motion of electrons and nuclei with ever increasing spatial and temporal sensitivity. The element specificity, chemical sensitivity, and temporal resolution of ultrafast X-ray spectroscopy techniques hold great promise to provide new insight into the fundamental interactions underlying chemical dynamics in systems ranging from isolated molecules to application-like devices. Here, we focus on the potential of ultrafast X-ray spectroscopy techniques based on the detection of photo- and Auger electrons to provide new fundamental insight into photochemical processes of systems with various degrees of complexity. Isolated nucleobases provide an excellent testing ground for our most fundamental understanding of intramolecular coupling between electrons and nuclei beyond the traditionally applied Born-Oppenheimer approximation. Ultrafast electronic relaxation dynamics enabled by the breakdown of this approximation is the major component of the nucleobase photoprotection mechanisms. Transient X-ray induced Auger electron spectroscopy on photoexcited thymine molecules provides atomic-site specific details of the extremely efficient coupling that converts potentially bond changing ultraviolet photon energy into benign heat. In particular, the time-dependent spectral shift of a specific Auger band is sensitive to the length of a single bond within the molecule. The X-ray induced Auger transients show evidence for an electronic transition out of the initially excited state within only similar to 200 fs in contrast to theoretically predicted picosecond population trapping behind a reaction barrier. Photoinduced charge transfer dynamics between transition metal complexes and semiconductor nanostructures are of central importance for many emerging energy and climate relevant technologies. Numerous demonstrations of photovoltaic and photocatalytic activity have been performed based on the combination of strong light absorption in dye molecules with charge separation and transport in adjacent semiconductor nanostructures. However, a fundamental understanding of the enabling and limiting dynamics on critical atomic length- and time scales is often still lacking. Femtosecond time-resolved X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy is employed to gain a better understanding of a short-lived intermediate that may be linked to the unexpectedly limited performance of ZnO based dye-sensitized solar cells by delaying the generation of free charge carriers. The transient spectra strongly suggest that photoexcited dye molecules attached to ZnO nanocrystals inject their charges into the substrate within less than 1 ps but the electrons are then temporarily trapped at the surface of the semiconductor in direct vicinity of the injecting molecules. The experiments are extended to monitor the electronic response of the semiconductor substrate to the collective injection from a monolayer of dye molecules and the subsequent electron-ion recombination dynamics. However, facing apparently complex interdependencies between numerous ecosystem components, there is urgent need rethinking our approaches in ecosystem research and applying new tools of data analysis. The concept presented in this paper is based on two pillars. Firstly, it postulates that ecosystems are multiple feedback systems and thus are highly constrained. Consequently, the effective dimensionality of multivariate ecosystem data sets is expected to be rather low compared to the number of observables. Secondly, it assumes that ecosystems are characterized by continuity in time and space as well as between entities which are often treated as distinct units. Implementing this concept in ecosystem research requires new tools for analysing large multivariate data sets. This study presents some of them, which were applied to a comprehensive water quality data set from a long-term monitoring program in Northeast Germany in the Uckermark region, one of the LTER-D (Long Term Ecological Research network, Germany) sites. Short-term variability of the kettle hole water samples differed substantially from that of the stream water samples, suggesting different processes generating the dynamics in these two types of water bodies. However, again, this seemed to be due to differing intensities of single processes rather than to completely different processes. We feel that research aiming at elucidating apparently complex interactions in ecosystems could make much more efficient use from now available large monitoring data sets by implementing the suggested concept and using corresponding innovative tools of system analysis. After the successful transport to the point of care, the delivery has to be released under controlled conditions. To monitor the triggered release from the carrier, we investigated different fluorescent probes regarding their response to the pH-induced collapse of pH-sensitive liposomes (pHSLip), which occurs when the environmental pH falls below a critical value. Depending on the probe, the fluorescence decay time as well as fluorescence anisotropy can be used equally as key parameters for monitoring the collapse. Especially the application of a fluorescein labeled fatty acid (fPA) enabled the monitoring of the pHSLips collapse and the pH of its microenvironment simultaneously without interference. Varying the pH in the range of 3 < pH < 9, anisotropy data revealed the critical pH value at which the collapse of the pHSLips occurs. Complementary methods, e.g., fluorescence correlation spectroscopy and dynamic light scattering, supported the analysis based on the decay time and anisotropy. In this work, a model approach is presented where apple serves as a source for a high polyphenoloxidase activity for modulating the reactions. The polyphenoloxidase activity ranged from 128 to 333 nakt/mL in different apple varieties. From these, 'Braeburn' was found to provide the highest enzymatic activity. The formation and stability of resulting chromogenic conjugates was investigated. The results show that such adducts are not stable and possible degradation mechanisms leading to follow-up products formed are proposed. Finally, apple extracts were used to modify proteins and their functional properties characterized. There were retaining antioxidant properties inherent to phenolic compounds after adduct formation.
