N2  - Die Republik Kosovo stellt einen Beitrittskandidaten sui generis in der Erweiterungsgeschichte der Europäischen Union dar. Die besonderen Beziehungen zwischen der EU und dem "potenziellen" Kandidaten resultieren aus dem ungelösten Territorialkonflikt mit Serbien, dem unvollendeten Staatsaufbau sowie der eingeschränkten Souveränität Kosovos. Diese Einzelfallstudie untersucht Kosovos Integrationsprozess in den Staatenverbund im Kontext der Spezifika des Beitrittsaspiranten, der stockenden EU-Südosterweiterung und der multiplen EU-Krise. Davon ausgehend werden vier Zukunftsszenarien für Kosovos Integrationsverlauf, auch mit Blick auf differenzierte Integrationsoptionen, entwickelt.
N2  - The Republic of Kosovo is classified as a membership candidate sui generis within the enlargement history of the European Union.
The special relationship between the EU and the potential membership candidate results from the unresolved secession conflict with Serbia, the young republic’s incomplete state structures and Kosovo's limited sovereignty. 
This single-case study examines Kosovo’s integration process into the European association of states in the context of Kosovo’s unique aspirant character, the slow EU enlargement process in the Western Balkans and the European Union’s multiple crises. 
Based on the case-specific results, four future scenarios for Kosovo’s EU integration were developed - taking into account differentiated integration options.
