Seit einiger Zeit ist zu beobachten, dass sich das Bild von den Ostdeutschen, das von Medien, Politik und Wissenschaft gezeichnet wird, verändert. In den ersten Jahren nach 1990 stand vor allem das politische System der DDR mit seinen Wirkungen auf Verhaltensweisen, Mentalitäten der Menschen im Vordergrund. Die Ostdeutschen wurden mit ihren Gewohnheiten, Wertvorstellungen und Einstellungen an bundesdeutschen Standards gemessen und als veraltet und einer ‚nachholenden Modernisierung’ bedürftig angesehen. Nun aber treten andere Perspektiven in den Vordergrund, die die Ostdeutschen zu ‚Wunschprotagonisten’ gesellschaftlichen Umbaus machen. Der Blick richtet sich auf habituelle Ressourcen, die ostdeutsche Frauen und Männer als ‚biografisches Gepäck’ aus der DDR in die neue Republik mitgebracht und in einem komplexen und widersprüchlichen Prozess von Anpassung und eigensinniger Behauptung zu Wahrnehmungs- und Deutungsmustern sowie praktischen Arrangements transformiert haben. Politiker wie Wissenschaftler schreiben nun den Ostdeutschen – gerade aufgrund ihrer gemachten Transformationserfahrungen – einen Vorsprung im Umgang mit radikalen gesellschaftlichen Verwerfungen zu, der für den aktuell anstehenden Strukturwandel genutzt werden kann. Empirische Untersuchungen, die diese These erhärten, sind bislang allerdings eher selten. Und unter ihnen sind Forschungen darüber, welchen Einfluss die gesellschaftlichen Veränderungen im Osten Deutschlands seit 1989/90 auf die Geschlechterverhältnisse, die praktizierten Geschlechterarrangements und Geschlechtervorstellungen hatten bzw. wie diese mit ihrer DDR-geschichtlichen Färbung die Transformationsprozesse in den neuen Ländern beeinflussen, noch einmal marginal. Bis heute ist eine gendersensible Sicht auf die skizzierten Veränderungen selten. Und dies, obwohl gerade an den Geschlechterarrangements und am eigensinnigen Festhalten ostdeutscher Frauen aber auch von Männern an Vorstellungen und Alltagspraktiken, die durch den DDR-Geschlechtervertrag geprägt sind, exemplarisch gezeigt werden kann, wie widersprüchlich ostdeutsche Mentalitäten und Werte sind und welche ambivalenten Wirkungen aus ihnen für den gesellschaftlichen Strukturwandel resultieren (können). Mit dem Themenschwerpunkt "Geschlechterverhältnisse in Ostdeutschland" wollen die Potsdamer Studien zur Frauen- und Geschlechterforschung aus gendersensibler Perspektive und auf der Basis empirischer Forschungen einen Beitrag zu den aktuellen Debatten über den Gesellschaftsumbau leisten.

Die Ausgabe 2002 der Potsdamer Studien zur Frauen- und Geschlechterforschung versammelt elf Aufsätze, die im Rahmen des Lehr- und Forschungsprojektes Transformationen von Wissen, Mensch und Geschlecht entstanden sind. Angeregt wurde dieses Projekt durch die vielerorts artikulierte Sorge um die Zukunft des Menschen. Gentechnologisch generalüberholt und chirurgisch re-designed, ökonomisch und sozial flexibilisiert, informationsgesättigt und medial vollverbunden scheint der Mensch bisherige Grenzziehungen zu überschreiten und sich auf ein bedrohliches Terrain vollkommener Gestaltbarkeit und beispielloser Verfügbarkeit zu begeben. Gleichwohl stellt sich die Frage, ob wir in der Tat von Veränderungen in der Verfasstheit »des« Menschen sprechen können, die eine radikale Transformation der Bedingungen »seines« und »ihres« Seins anzeigen. Zentraler Bezugspunkt aller Texte ist die Untersuchung der geschlechtlichen und vergeschlechtlichenden Konstruktionen in den aktuellen Diskursen dieser Umbrüche. Geschlecht wird als wissens- und wirklichkeitskonstituierender Modus verstanden, der in jedwede Transformationsprozesse eingeschrieben ist. Inwieweit werden hierbei Grenzziehungen und Hierarchien aufgebrochen und stabilisiert? Wie wird in den Natur- und Technikwissenschaften die Kategorie Geschlecht eingesetzt oder zum Verstummen gebracht? Angesichts neuer Tendenzen des biologischen Determinismus zielt das Projekt auf kritische Interventionen in die Naturwissenschaften und eröffnet somit neue Felder feministischer Forschung, die darauf zielt, die akademische und politische Wirkmacht der Kategorie Geschlecht zu steigern. So werden an der Schnittstelle von Wissenschafts- und Medienforschung, Sozial- und Kulturwissenschaften, Informatik und Geschlechterstudien möglichst vielfältige Blickachsen entwickelt und dabei disziplinäre Grenzen und fachspezifische Gegenstandskonstitutionen neu verhandelt. Denn die drei wegweisenden Transformationen – die wirtschaftlichen, medientechnologischen und gentechnischen Transformationen – können nicht länger isoliert betrachtet werden. Sie verstärken und beschleunigen sich gegenseitig und führen regressive als auch konstruktive wissenschafts- und gesellschaftspolitische Strukturen mit sich. Der transdisziplinäre Ansatz dieses Heftes will eine kaleidoskopische Perspektive eröffnen, die nicht Universalität und Widerspruchsfreiheit zelebriert, sondern die jeweiligen theoretischen, politischen und disziplinären Standpunkte zu neuen Bildern zusammenfügt, um so alte Bilder dekonstruieren zu können.

Mit Heft 2/99 der Potsdamer Studien zur Frauen- und Geschlechterforschung wird die in Heft 1/99 begonnene Debatte um die Zukunft der Frauen- und Geschlechterforschung bzw. der Kategorie ›Geschlecht‹ mit einer veränderten Schwerpunktsetzung fortgesetzt. Es kommen Autorinnen zu Wort, die dabei sind, ihre ersten eigenen Schritte im Wissenschaftsfeld zu tun, d.h. die in Diplom- und Magisterarbeiten oder Dissertationen einen selbstgewählten Gegenstand bearbeiten und dabei die Kategorie ›Geschlecht‹ bzw. Konzepte der Frauen- und Geschlechterforschung als Erkenntnismittel einsetzen und/oder kritisch reflektieren. Ist Feminismus heute (noch) für junge Frauen in Theorie und Praxis attraktiv? Welche Konzepte sind für sie besonders interessant? Was bedeuten z.B. für sie die heftigen Auseinandersetzungen um Judith Butlers ›poststrukturalistisch‹ bzw. ›dekonstruktivistisch‹ fundierte Kritik ›am Feminismus‹, wie sie vor einigen Jahren in Deutschland u.a. in den Feministischen Studien auch als Streit zwischen gestandenen Frauenforscherinnen und Wissenschaftlerinnen der nachfolgenden ›Generation‹ ausgetragen wurden? Wie gehen sie als ›dritte Generation‹ mit den Ergebnissen der Auseinandersetzungen in der Frauen- und Geschlechterforschung der neunziger Jahre um? Das Gemeinsame aller veröffentlichten Beiträge kann in der mehrdeutigen Formulierung Feminismus in der Kritik zusammengebracht werden. Zum einen zeigen die Beiträge, dass Feminismus nach wie vor ein nicht zu unterschätzendes kritisches Potential für wissenschaftliches Arbeiten ist. Zum anderen ist Feminismus in den Beiträgen insofern in der Kritik, als Begrenztheiten im Denken komplexer Zusammenhänge, begriffliche Unschärfen oder Ausblendungen, ›blinde Flecken‹, die sein Potential als Erkenntnismittel limitieren, kritisch reflektiert werden. Aus der redaktionellen Notiz: Das Schwerpunktthema dieses Heftes der Potsdamer Studien zur Frauen- und Geschlechterforschung ist Zukunft: Die Zukunft der Frauen- und Geschlechterforschung in den Disziplinen und vor allem die Zukunft der Kategorie »Geschlecht« für die Produktion wissenschaftlichen Wissens. Die Texte entstanden im weiteren Kontext der Arbeit von Potsdamer WissenschaftlerInnen an einem als »transdisziplinär« projektierten Nebenfachstudiengang zu »Frauen- und Geschlechterstudien«. Im Verlauf unserer Diskussionen wurde eins ums andere Mal deutlich, wie unterschiedlich das jeweilige Verständnis von »Geschlecht« und »Geschlechterforschung« qua disziplinärer Herkunft ist. Nach einer intensiven Auseinandersetzung mit Konzepten von »Transdisziplinarität«, dokumentiert in Heft 2/1998 der Potsdamer Studien, wollten wir nun genauer wissen, wie das Verhältnis von »Geschlecht« und »Disziplin« ist, welchen Status »Geschlecht« für die disziplinäre Wissensproduktion hat, ob es deren Fundament und/oder Horizont ist bzw. sein sollte, und wie »Geschlecht« in den einzelnen Disziplinen konzipiert wird.

Disziplinäre Quergänge : (Un-)Möglichkeiten transdisziplinärer Frauen- und Geschlechterforschung

Heft 2/1998 hat den thematischen Schwerpunkt der Transdisziplinarität in der Frauen- und Geschlechterforschung und dokumentiert die Beiträge sowie die Diskussion eines Workshops, der im Sommersemester 1998 an der Universität Potsdam im Rahmen der Planungen zu einem Magisternebenfach „Frauen- und Geschlechterstudien" stattgefunden hat. Beiträgerinnen sind u.a. Sabine Hark, Maike Baader, Beate Neumeier, Axeli Knapp, Silke Wenk, Ulrike Teubner. Frauen- und Geschlechterforschung hat wiederholt Interdisziplinarität reklamiert, um das Zugleich von Monotonie und Heterogenität der Reproduktion der Geschlechterhierarchie verstehen zu können. Aus den Einzeldisziplinen heraus waren Grenzgänge in andere Disziplinen geradezu notwendig, um das Dickicht der Geschlechterordnung, die Verknüpfungen zwischen symbolischen, strukturellen und individuellen Dimensionen von Geschlecht zu durchdringen. Der „Beziehungssinn" zwischen den Disziplinen wurde dabei allerdings selten gepflegt. Wie etwa die moderne Geschlechterordnung selbst zum Ordnungsprinzip und zur Modalität der Produktion wissenschaftlichen Wissens wurde, war allenfalls eine Randfrage. Der reflexive Blick auf die Prozesse der wechselseitigen Konstitution von Disziplingrenzen gerade durch interdisziplinäre Herangehensweisen blieb bisher weitgehend aus. In einer transdisziplinären Orientierung von Frauen- und Geschlechterstudien würde daher gerade die je fachspezifische Konstitution von Gegenständen, Methoden und disziplinären Grenzen sowie die durch sie bestimmten bzw. beschränkten Perspektiven zum Gegenstand, wenn es darum gehen soll, die überschneidenden Problemfelder, die sich aus der Perspektive der Geschlechterdifferenz als relevant erweisen, zwischen den Disziplinen zu bearbeiten. In einer transdisziplinären Perspektive also stünden die Disziplingrenzen selbst zur Disposition, Teil der Lehr- und Forschungspraxis wäre die Frage, wie verschiedene disziplinäre Zugänge die Objekte des Wissens konstruieren und was das für die möglichen Erkenntnisse bedeutet.
